A Showcase on My Headcanon Appearance for The Great Hawk (DOL)

Hello DOL fandom! I finally played Great Hawk's route after being told by many people that he'd be a favorite and... I must agree he is very cute oTL I tried looking for stuff of him in the fandom but there isn't much... and of the art I'd find, most of his designs are just humans with wings. That's not how I pictured him when playing... what I imagined was a monster design I'm very fond of from the manga 'Torso no Bokura.' (monster enjoyers please read it)

The brainrot of it was so strong that I ended up screenshotting, cleaning and compiling these collages together to hopefully have more people see Great Hawk the same as well ^^" :

(They have such expressive eyes! And I think their mouth designs are so clever. The creator's birdmen retain their lips and keep a beak inside instead of teeth. It makes their expressions unique!)

love thinking about Alex and harpy PC

Alex who gets scared shitless when a bird person rips their help wanted sign right off, pointing at it, then themselves, wings fluttering

Alex screams and then tells them to go away in a totally brave way that makes PC try not to laugh

PC just keeps coming back and working on the farm, hiding their wings and tail feathers, holding out their hand for cash at the end of the day. they're good with animals, one screech has the pigs in order to be fed, and keeps the horses from running, but Alex has to tell them to tone it down so the animals don't start shitting themselves when they walk by

their good eyesight comes in handy when Remy's goons are lurking around, and Alex let's them screech at those fuckers all they want, laughing their ass off each time they run off

PC talking to Alex during breaks, voice scratchy bc they're not used to actually speaking more than one word. they talk about the town, and Alex asks if they've been there. "I use to live there." no further explanation.

in the distance there's a hawk screeching and Alex just freezes, bc The Hawk never comes this close to the farms, and watches PC run and hop over the fence and into the moor before coming back a half an hour later covered in feathers and giddy.

a lurker pops up and Alex watches as PC just chomps down on it before getting back to work. Alex is very afraid. but for other reasons that dont involve the image of PC chomping on lurkers. some rando bird person with relations to the The Great Hawk is nothing to bat an eye to, who knows, maybe theyre just as terrifying. cue PC playing with the dogs

so, it rains one day, PC's clothes get wet, and when giving them a towel Alex notices how they're clothes aren't really... good. ripped in some places and dirty as fuck, so they give PC one of they're own shirts and pants, can't have them using their feathers to hide themselves, yknow, Remy might see. they look good in Alex's clothes..

Sucks bc all of their advances are turned down, or at least, PC doesn't let them get too far. "I have a Spouse." "You're married?! To who??" cue hawk screeching in the background.

they keep their hands to themselves, but still offer a drink

PC comes to the farm one day and just looks at the road during their breaks, holding a black box in their hand. Alex watches them put the box in the middle of the road, and an hour later, a car tire smooshes it when passing by. they're a lot happier the rest of the day

Alex keeps one of their feathers, from when PC taught them how to preen, and keeps it in their room all the time, takes it out on the days PC doesn't come and puts it in their pocket

as the fields clear, Remy comes, and PC isnt kind. Alex isn't sure what they're doing, but it's spooking Remy's horse and making it try to turn away. once, things got a little too rough, one of the goons on top of PC, and one screech later a large shadow was over the farm, and the goons left, PC too, Great Hawk came down and swooped them into their arms once Remy was out of sight, flying into the moor. PC didn't come back a week later. "They were really worried."

Alex feels as if they're not allowed to be jealous, because they're too busy being afraid. Yeah, they're a little bit smitten with PC, but if they do anything its only a matter of time before Great Hawk swoops down and pecks them to death. sadly, they'll have to settle for preening during breaks, listening to PC sing, rough housing ect. it doesn't help that PC's touches linger, or that they look at Alex with soft eyes. when offered to stay in the cottage, they make a beeline for Alex's bed when work is over, talking about how they're not use to sleeping alone, and Alex takes it, they'll take anything they can get.

#great hawk provided PC with shelter away from town and was nice and listened when they said no. that's huge win.#but Alex. alex is the first human interaction PC's had in months. do you know what a month away from civilization and eating lurkers does?#PC has two hands y'all and I'm pretty sure Alex can get by the idea after a week. It was ........Angel lmao💀😭😭😭 i was playing around with their save file and studying the writing in dol for a future post i wanted to make and then i was like. Fuck it we go ball and then i went and got them a husband💀😭😭

Not sure if if i want this to be a strictly game thing or like incorporate it into her story but like. ...let's say they do get kidnapped by the great hawk...

Angel(they/he/she)

It's uh ......awkward tbh💀💀💀 Angel is fully prepared to pluck some feathers when Great Hawk sets them down but then he's like. "Hey man this is ur home now, I'll go get some food for you. Also ur my spouse now lmaoooo" and they just (._.)

Because this surely did trigger smth within them (thanks to Kylar babe😍😵😘), and they had pure rage in her eyes for like the first few minutes before they were confused by GH's behaviour🚹

Bc as much as he wants to wring his neck and choke him to death for kidnapping her, they also have a tendency to like. Really really judge someone before throwing hands. Doesn't want to feel guilty after yk.

So after GH goes out to fetch food, Angel's scouring the place for stuff to defend themself with. And then GH comes back and just treats them with utmost respect and kindness and angel's just "huh."

So yeah. They spend their time with him, gently explaining that she is NOT his wife or husband no thank you, i have partners already. They were pretty much on board with skipping school and not having to deal with Bailey but they really quickly realised that they miss their friends and partners so they just start pleading GH to let her go🚹🚹

"bro please please i swear dude i won't forget about you like. I'll love you forever man please bro I'll BUILD A SHRINE FOR YOU DUDE PLEASE"

Uh. Yes. They occasionally do visit Great Hawk but they're definitely not overnight stays. Some part of them wants to introduce him to Robin and Sydney but she's also afraid they'll start preferring the bird man over them so they just. Don't🚹

They do tell about him to the others though, considering they've been away for so long and all.

While living with him they only take baths while he's away for food, no one gets to see the goods honey

They scolded GH the first time he got them a lurker and almost cried when they saw how disappointed he got🚹🚹🚹 He got them one the second time too...Angel was so hungry by the time he went out again that they werent as against eating a lurker but nah he just pop in with regular human food so that's good 👍

All in all it's more of a comedy than anything😩😭

Had a mini-adventure with the wraith today, I was in elk street searching for another pepper spray canister when this scene appeared.

While ‘Alorhna’ doesn’t particularly like the Ivory wraith, but she is a very kind soul. A trait she learned from her time in the moors with the great hawk.

She knows when to fight back if necessary but this world is already cruel enough, so she tries her best to shine some light where she is able. So despite the fact the wraith tried to attack her previously, she could tell he needed her help and chose to be kind.

I have conflicted feelings towards the Ivory wraith, I can’t stand the blood moons because of the wraith but the lore and backstory around the wraith and the town makes me extremely curious.

Also is it weird I find the Wraiths nicknames kind of cute? I know the PC is highly implied to be the wraiths lover/friend reborn and that’s why they have such an obsession with the PC but the names they call them are just so cute to me

“Memory”, “reflection”.

It’s just adorable.

Fun idea for harpy PC:

Remy manages to catch PC, maybe even clipping their feathers so they can't get away. Hawkspounce and Alex actually work together to get them back, since GH showed up all at the farm all panicky and was gonna go charging in and definitely get themself killed when they found out where pc was.

this makes me so sad on PC's behalf :(( they haven't had their wings for long but it's become such a familiar weight that when they wake up without them they just go cold. they're not just wings, it's practically a symbol of their freedom, showing how far they've gotten from town. memories of GH teaching them to fly just build up on the devastation. no more preening with them or Alex, just fresh, bloody wounds, or fleshy stumps on their back. their tail feathers are still intact, but honestly, what's the point?

they blink in and out of consciousness, trying to get more comfortable in the cage Remy put them in, stretch their wings—but they can't, the cage is eerily spacious.

Harper, who did the operation, is kind enough to medicate them so the pain isn't as bad, just dull aches. drugged up like this, PC's reality mixes with memories and the call out for Alex, drowsily talking to the metal bars, or singing, the same song GH usually duets with them, pausing for a moment where GH's voice would fill in.

Alex doesn't really notice PC's absence, the longest they've been gone is two weeks. but they do notice GH's shadow over the moor, it's become more frequent, the Terror's screeching scares the cattle, and Alex makes a mental note to ask PC what was up when they get back. when Remy comes to taunt, having a goon hold them down, Alex notices something around their neck, a familiar feather, pierced at its quill and hanging from a chain. its the same as the one in their pocket. Alex thinks it's odd, but they're too busy fighting off a goon on top of them to think any further. later in the day, when feeding the dogs, the realization hits them like a bullet.

GH isn't doing so hot. It's normal for their spouse to be out, especially after they've met that human, so they don't worry the first two days. the third, however, GH gets antsy, they've passed by that farm on their hunts and they don't see their spouse working on the fields like usual. the next few days are spent searching around the moor, near the farms, that's as far as they'd go, and that's as far as their spouse would go, GH knows their spouse wouldn't step foot past the farms. each hunting trip turns into a search, forgetting to eat, and coming back to their nest empty-handed and hungry. maybe they're hibernating in that human's nest? humans, even if they've gone through a transformation, hibernate, right? PC is safe, somewhere in the moor, or with that human. they have to be, where else would they go?

They're flying through the moor, running on a few hours of sleep and an empty stomach. They almost pass out, managing to glide down and catch a lurker feebly trying to crawl away, munching on it. they hear rustling nearby and turn to find Alex just a few yards away, sprinting at them, causing their guard to raise, but when Alex gets there, they don't look any better than they do.

"PC, they're— are they with you?" The question is nearly incomprehensible with how hard their breathing, hands on their knees. GH already knew their spouse wasn't on the farm, god knows how often they fly over the farm.

"No, Spouse is in the moor," they look at their surroundings, "somewhere.."

Alex isn't sure how to break the news, especially since they don't know how GH is going to respond to it all. GH is like two heads taller than them and has a fierce reputation, even if Alex doesn't know the extent of their power. but they do it, they break the news as gently as they can, skipping over their rivalry with Remy and just saying point blank—"Someone took them."

They only get to point in the direction of Remy's estate before GH is zipping past them, getting ready for flight, and Alex almost lets them, but they remember the feather around Remy's neck, and how they don't know if PC is dead or alive (they're alive, they're alive, they can't be anything else but alive), and suddenly they find the strength, and audacity to jump and grab Great Hawk, The Terror, by their clawed foot before they take flight. GH is quicker though, spinning around and ripping Alex's hand off their foot, the other gripping them by their neck tight, preparing to fling them away. in the moment when GH looks down at them, eyes absolutely furious, wings stretched out, Alex has to remind themselves that this predator is PC's soft, lovey-dovey spouse, who sings with them and holds them in their sleep.

"T-that's fucking suicide!" They manage to say with a clawed hand around their neck, holding them several feet above the ground. "Remy's a sn-snake—!" When they begin to cough, GH lets them go, watching Alex fall to the ground and hold their neck. They turn, ready to go again but Alex has more to say.

"Please, don't."

With PC, things are still shit. they forget how much of a novelty was to have GH listen when they say 'no', or how Alex would back off whenever they remind them that they're GH's spouse, nobody listens to that here. it's like they never left town.

they're fatigued like never before, when not being assaulted, they try to wear out the locks on the cage, eyes red and their fingertips aching from fucking with the locks. it's given in at least, picking locks became second nature since they did it so often back in town, stealing goods for Landry and whatnot. the guard isn't paying any attention to them today, thank fuck. PC knows they're in a building, not far or somewhere inside the estate, if they were on the farms they would've heard the animals by now, they're willing to sneak around and get captured just to get a feel of where they are, so they can repeat the process until they escape if Remy doesn't kill them by then, but for now, they'll rest.

Alex and Great Hawk are looking for them, they know this in their heart. They have to be.

And while they're coming, PC will meet them halfway, and they'll all go into the moor, even Alex, and never step foot outside again... right after GH and PC rupture Remy's eardrums and Alex burns the estate.

it's a nice enough fantasy to fall asleep to.
