another hot take but i really don't think tommy's "my attention?" was him thinking buck has feelings for eddie. tommy thinks buck was jealous that he was getting excluded from the friend group, because he comes to clear the air about causing bad blood and even says "[eddie] can have more than one friend." tommy doesn't fully realize what's really going on until buck says "... 'cause trying to get your attention has been exhausting," and it dawns on him that buck's jealousy wasn't about getting excluded from eddie and tommy's friendship but about eddie jeopardizing tommy's time (additionally, buck's "i guess" isn't meant to be noncommittal; he's realizing in the moment that it's true, that it really was about tommy. the way he says it feels like it's a revelation to even him). remember, buck reached out to tommy at some point prior to the events of 7x04 for the tour, but was never actually interested in leaving the 118. it was absolutely a ploy to get closer to tommy. but eddie interrupts them and pulls tommy away from buck, and buck spirals. the main issue is that buck has no idea what his feelings are doing, so he latches on to the most likely explanation to him (with further context clues that indicate that's not what it's really about) until that moment between buck and tommy in the loft. basically buck's got a crush he doesn't know how to deal with so he makes it everybody's problem.

OH YES. I remember my first day of Society Lessons as a hearing person, where the everything was explained to me. Via Audiobook. FIRST they spoke and said, "you are standing on the ground." It was a life changing revelation, and the world began to spin.

But it did not stop.

THEN they said, "there are fingers on your hands." The sensation of flesh and bone crackling into existence is indescribable, but I did not yet know pain, until they told me, "that hurts." I began screaming immediately.

And yet... it continued.

They explained so much. Chairs. Tables. Walls. The sky. Frogs. Ionizing radiation. Breathing. I was told all of it, in one sitting, and only then did I understand. Only when my ears were bursting with normal hearing knowledges, did they begin... my final test.

A strange wall-chair-finger emerged from the sky-of-the-wall, stood on the ground several times, until it was in front of me. A second one came behind it, this one slimmer. The audiobook gave these things names;

Human. Father. Mother. Door. Walking. It was completely impossible to know what these things were until that very moment.

I watch a human dip a hook into water and produce a fish, and I recall my Society Lessons where they called that "fishing." I am decked in the face by a nefarious hooligan, and I have only the audiobook to thank when I know I have been "punched" by a "bad guy." It was only the magic of verbal-speaking-words-noise that made me understand that there are "other people" and that they "do stuff."

Sometimes, even, in "groups."

Before the Society Lessons Audiobook, I knew nothing. I was pure, innocent, uncorrupted by concepts such as "parents" and "door." I am grateful every day that there is no such concept as "being shown things" or "simple logical reasoning" or "looking."

Blessed be those amongst us who escape the horrors of the Society Lessons Audiobook. I pray that you never learn what anything is. Be free! Free as a bird, which also knows nothing and famously cannot learn. 🤗

Thanks for tagging me @aether-wasteland-s! I scribbled down some bits and pieces of scenes in my notes app earlier so I'm sharing the last of them which I wrote for Blue like don't forget about me

This takes place wayyyy towards the end--long after Teddy and Nash lose touch, after they separately get infected with alien gunk that gives them superpowers, and after they run into each other again without knowing who the other is behind the mask.

[Teddy's] lips are numb. He didn't hurt Kataclysm, but he did leave him for dead. And he has only known one girl named Jo in his whole life. And she had a brother.

"What's his name?" he asks.

"Excuse me? Are you seriously trying to get his identity out of me right now, you dumb motherf--?"

Teddy rips his mask down under his chin. His voice pitches and cracks as he asks, "Jo, was that Nash? Tell me. Tell me right now."

Jo's head rears back. "Teddy?" All the color drains from her face. She whispers, "Oh my God, what did you do?"

For the second time, he just signed his best friend's death warrant.

Life in the OBX had been nearly perfect. For the first time in a long time things felt normal. There were no treasure hunts, no one trying to abduct her, no one trying to kill her or her friends. Simple pleasures, right?

Anyway, it had been nearly perfect. Pope was off at college. High school was in all of their rearview mirrors. John B and Sarah moved into a condo on the Cut. Kie was rooming with Cleo while Pope was away. Kie was able to focus on conservation work and enforcing her boundaries with her parents. Since she's fairly certain she's never going to be able to forgive them. No matter how much she loves them, no matter how much they claim to love her.

Things had been nearly perfect. Until they weren't. Until JJ broke up with her, seemingly out of the blue. They had been fine one day and then they were nothing the next. The break up rattled their friend group, to the point that they haven't hung out all of them together in over a month at this point. She's counting down the days until Pope gets back. It'll probably be the next time she sees JJ. At least, she figured it would be.

Realistically, Kie has outgrown keggers at the Boneyard. They're not her typical scene anymore. But it's a great way to get her mind off of her life. And find the occasional hookup when some of the preppy frat douches come back home from college. Not that that's her type, not in the least. But it's not like she's looking for anything serious, just a little bit fun. Even though a good time is hard to come by with that crowd.

She hadn't counted on seeing JJ. She hadn't counted on catching his eye as she was trying to flirt with someone. A blonde girl with purple dye fading out at the ends, and an interest in the environment that rivals her own. A girl who loves surfing. A girl who reminds her far too much of JJ, the banter is coming too easily between them. It's part of the reason she's so attracted to the girl, so it should only make sense that her eyes seek out JJ before her brain even knows he's there. But he is there, chatting up some brunette girl and her heart sinks into her stomach at the idea that he's here doing the exact same thing she is.

She excuses herself from the girl, her flirting mood completely killed at the mere sight of him. She goes to get herself another drink, figuring she'll need it. She could just go home, but she refuses to let him just ruin her night. She hadn't counted on him coming up to her and trying to make conversation. His attempts at casual are dashed by her complete disinterest in making this interaction comfortable. Like they didn't mean something to each other. Like he's not the only person she's ever really be in love with. Like he didn't break her heart without having the decency to at least tell her why.

"I thought who I hang out with isn't your business anymore."

That's what it meant when he broke up with her, right? Besides, she's not looking to fall in love tonight. That's the last thing she wants actually. She just wants someone who can make her feel good for the night. Someone who can take her mind off of him, who can make her forget every single thing about him. She just wants a few hours where she isn't plagued by the memories of how it felt to kiss him and the way he called her baby. She just wants a little bit of peace. That's it.

So since tomorrow is Vivian’s birthday (4/20), you are all welcome to send her asks if you would like! Admittedly, it’s my birthday too because I was not creative enough back then to give her one that’s completely different from mine, but to be honest, I would ideally prefer Vivian to be the recipient of asks if only because I would like to keep OOC posts on this blog to a very bare minimum. However! I know only a handful of you have gotten around to interacting with her thus far, so I would allow anonymous asks or non-romantic pre-established asks to be sent.

Honestly, though, considering Vivian is often on social media as a white haired anime girl, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched for your muse to maybe not have interacted with her personally but still corresponded with her through sites like Reddit, Twitter, or ArchiveOfOurOwn.

Regardless, there is no expiry date for when you can send Vivian birthday asks - I just ask that you do not send in multiple asks with the same muse and just opt to continue the first ask response into a thread for the sake of my own sanity!
