Warning: Bear Attacks

As we move into the holiday season, we would like to issue our annual warning about bear attacks. With colder weather setting in, an increased number of bears will be driven indoors as they search for food, warmth, and mates. And bears are far more dangerous in confined spaces.

Take this specimen here for instance. At first glance, he seems like a kind, friendly, fuzzy man who would keep you warm through a cold winter night. Maybe not the most happening upstairs, but he means well. Would you believe that just this summer he looked more like this?

Young and cute, but certainly not the hairy beast we have seen him turn into this season. If you are going out this winter, be aware, and be alert for the warning signs and know what to do if a bear sets its sights on you. First, how do you identify a bear? There are a few common varieties, each with their own quirks:

You have the very standard Grizzly bear, warm and cuddly. Pronounced dad bod. Notice the expression, the signature bear smirk. This will be one of the earliest signs that a bear is on the hunt.

Of course you also have the muscle bears. Their signature muscles will be coated in a thick layer of fur, accentuating their size. Hair will peak out from beneath heavy biceps, and their tank tops give no doubt to the forest underneath. They will often infiltrate and train you up before attacking. They like their marks ready, bro.

Even the smaller, younger cubs present a danger this time of year. They may seem helpless, but let us assure you they are far more knowledgeable than they seem. They can cause some of the most drastic changes in age, hair, and temperament. Countless men soon find themselves caring for their cubs, foraging for them, and assuming responsibility as they age into papa bears for their sweet little cubs.

Now bears will all hunt in their own ways, but there are patterns to their behavior. First, bears tend to congregate together. If you notice one, be on alert for others. Second, beware of beer and whiskey drinks offered to you. These are the trademark drinks of several bear species. Third, monitor the air in a room. That many big, burly men will tend to warm a place up and start to sweat, and bear musk is among their most potent tools to pacify targets. And in greater numbers these effects can be amplified. Their fur traps the musk close to their skin, so the closer they get the more enraptured you will become. If you are subjected to a direct hit from, say, a bear’s pit, it may already to be too late.

In case you find yourself taken back to a bear’s den, all is not lost yet, but far more drastic measures may need to be taken. Continued exposure to them will accelerate any changes, so you must be quick and decisive. First, avoid any food they may offer you, no matter how starved you may suddenly feel yourself becoming. Feeding the insatiable new hunger will only awaken the bear that is growing inside of you. Second, avoid direct contact with their fur. They may appear warm and inviting, and their cuddles are indeed among the coziest in the world. But skin-to-fur contact encourages hair growth as your body grows a pelt of its own. Third, avoid getting under the covers with them. Their body heat will quickly begin to melt your wits and your body will begin sweating, creating a musk of its own to compliment. Take this young man for example:

It is said a bear has an insatiable appetite, and will change as many men as they can get their hands on in a winter season until they find the perfect mate for hibernation.

It is advised that men stay aware, stay alert, and stay away. Report any bear sightings immediately. And stay tuned for any further information.

Ah yes, the old King Kong himself! I didn’t actually think I was going to add him and Diddy to my AU because I wasn’t sure how they’d fit.. But after brainstorming with a friend, we found a way! XD

I tried to put a lot of thought into DK and Diddy’s designs. Everything was intentional. Diddy and DK’s ENORMOUS size, DKs long fur, the red and blue tones in their fur, DK having long claws while Diddy does not, Diddy’s clothing choice, EVERYTHING! I tried my best to think it all through.

Ahem,

Off the coast of Daisy’s kingdom is this big island that can be seen from the shore. Daisy sent some of her Delfino people to go explore it but they never returned.. so she sent a rescue team after them, but they disappeared too.

Desperate, she turned to Mario and Luigi for help. Now, Mario and Luigi have just proved their strength and heroism by defeating Bowser. And they ALSO have a pet Yoshi. If anyone can go to that seemingly dangerous island and return? Its them.

Daisy approached them with an offer. You go use your magical powers and find out what happened to my missing people, and I’ll give you whatever you want. They agreed and made their way over...

Only to find destroyed campsites, boats torn apart... and bodies. Bodies everywhere.

Turns out this island is home to these enormous ape like animals. And they attacked the Delfino’s because they were loud, setting fires, chopping down trees, taking their food, etc. When they encountered the King himself, Yoshi was utterly terrified. He knew he was outmatched. There was absolutely no way he could protect the Mario brothers from this thing. So he just slowly pulled Mario and Luigi to the ground and cowered in fear. Trying to make them all look as non confrontational as possible.

Thankfully their petrified faces and absolute silence labeled them as a non-threat. And the situation was defused. Loads of shenanigan's later and they waved goodbye to Donkey, Diddy and all the other monkey creatures and returned to Daisy with the gruesome news..

Their reward? They just wanted enough food to fill Yoshi’s belly. Poor guy probably burnt all the calories he had trying not pass out back there.

Now the design lore! :D

On this island, there are these really powerful fruits and veggies that have super star power in them, just like Yoshi’s island. Only these ones work a little differently..

There are two main super foods on this island. The giant red beet type veggies that grow deep in the ground. And the big blue fruits that grow in the trees.

The big red beets are really bitter and tough like rocks. But anyone who eats them will begin to grow in size. The gorilla like animals on this island will use their claws to dig them up and use their iron jaws to crack them open and eat them. That’s why Donkey Kong is red. 75% of his diet consists of these bitter, giant red super beets that make him grow to be giant.

Meanwhile Diddy, and all the other Monkey like animals.. they cant dig for these beets. And their jaws are not strong enough to crack them open. Plus the beets are really bitter.. SO, they prefer to climb into the trees and eat the sweet blue fruits that grow at the very top.

These sweet fruits are also powerful in nature, but instead of making you stronger, they encourage brain growth. So all the monkeys that eat this super sweet brain fruit, will just get really smart and their fur will turn more blue.

The two species almost had a war between them. But they quickly discovered they’re better off together. The gorillas can protect the monkeys from threats, while the Monkeys use their intelligence to make tools and shelter.

This peace is further solidified by Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong's friendship. Diddy being the smartest monkey and DK being the strongest Gorilla.

All in all this island is rather peaceful at its core. But in the end its still full of wild animals. And is considered more dangerous than Yoshi’s island. To this day no one has ever returned to DK’s island. Although DK and Diddy would happily welcome the Mario Brothers back with open arms if they ever decided to visit.

This wouldn't be your and Bucky's first undercover mission together, but it would be the first one where the tension between you is decidedly not sexual. You're not even sure how well the two of you can pull off this charade since you have no idea what your chemistry is like anymore. Used to, you could do anything together, be anything together.

Not so much now.

There’s an awkwardness between you. Silences pregnant with all the things left unsaid – or should have been left unsaid. You’ll catch Bucky watching you from the corner of your eyes, always with an unreadable expression like he’s trying to figure you out again without actually asking any questions.

You can't imagine that you've changed so much in the intervening months, but Bucky makes so much progress in therapy that his confidence in himself and his personality grow by leaps and bounds all the time.

You don’t know this new Bucky, but you wish you did. You wish you had been with him to see his growth, encourage him on.

You’ve missed out on so much of your life by staying away from the Tower. You’d had so many plans that never came to be – no walks in the park when the flowers started to bloom, no trips to the beach on the hottest days of the year, no ice skating when the first snow fell. You kept a tab on everything that should have been on the calendar in your mind, noting all the days that had significance in the past but went uncelebrated this year.

But what’s done is done, and you have to pay for your actions – half a year away is a small price to have Bucky back in your life, even as a stranger instead of your lover.

You’re now trying to organize your new life on the outskirts of a small town in Russia, just a few miles away from a HYDRA base. Snow was falling thick and fast as the quinjet touched down hours ago, leaving behind a pristine blanket of white outside your new home. The small, two-bedroom cottage looks rustic, but it is still nicer than most of the surrounding homes due to Tony’s influence. There is hidden technology that will help the house to stay warm in this cold climate and random high-tech appliances, lights, and other things that look normal and are anything but.

With the HYDRA base going radio silent, you may be in this little home for longer than was initially expected earlier this year. Bucky is sure that the base is still active, though. He spent a lot of time here as the Winter Soldier, but no one has received reports from the embedded spy in recent months. This inactivity is concerning since you're no longer sure what is going on inside the building anymore.

It would be too obvious for Bucky to go undercover inside the facility, so that leaves it up to you to infiltrate as a researcher. The spy had assured last year that no one from the facility lived in the town you’ve settled in, so it’s safe enough for Bucky to remain close by as you work.

But the small town you’ve settled in is so traditional that the only way to remain inconspicuous as a younger woman is to be connected to a man in some way – be it living with family members or a husband.

And since you don't want to be labeled an outcast or worse, Bucky is here.

Bucky is going to be a mechanic at the small family-owned shop just down the road, and his prosthesis is covered in Stark technology that makes it appear as if he’d never lost it. Bucky used to spend a lot of time fixing up old cars and motorcycles between missions, so he should really enjoy spending his days in the garage helping out the Kowalds.

Unfortunately, your background isn’t as fun. You’re a whiz when it comes to biology, so Nat cooked up a false resume full of lab work that centers around eugenics and biomanipulation – things your spy had reported the facility was actively looking into. In order to get your foot in the door at the HYDRA facility, the Avengers had to create a background so disturbing that you're not even sure if you can interview for it properly.

You're just zipping up into your thick winter coat when Bucky walks out of the kitchen drying his hands on a dish towel.

“You headin’ out now, doll?” He asks, a small worry line between his eyebrows.

“Yup,” you answer back with a comforting smile on your face. “I need to go meet with our contact to make sure that everything is still okay.”

“Just be careful, yeah?” he tells you, slinging the towel up onto his shoulder. Today is his first day at the mechanic shop, so he's dressed in blue overalls with a small name tag stitched onto his chest. The sun is just barely rising, but he's going to be late if he doesn't hurry.

"You know me, Buck. My middle name is Safe."

"Your middle name is Trouble and you can't convince me otherwise, babygirl."

You stick your tongue out at him and blow a raspberry, holding your middle finger up in the air as you turn around and head out the door. Once out of his sight, you smile and bask in the feeling of having your friend back.

You'd missed the banter and easy wit you used to share together, so this small exchange feels like a return to normal. The awkwardness might return in time, but you hope Bucky has forgiven you enough to power through.

You trek along the deserted streets. The early hour and layer of snow on the ground seems to be keeping the townsfolk within their homes, wrapped snugly under their warm blankets. You sigh heavily and watch your breath fog in the air, the mist condensing and freezing your skin as you walk through the cloud.

You pass house after house, noticing lights turning on and the sound of hairdryers, televisions, and conversations humming in the air. Everything has a vague, indistinct quality to it, lulling you into daydreams of what their lives are like. Is it simple? Do they enjoy this cold, snowy location? Or are they also dreaming of a warm day laying in the grass in nothing but a pair of shorts and a tank top?

A memory worms its way to the surface of your mind of a day spent just like that with Bucky.

This was only a few weeks before your friends-with-benefits situation started. It was the hottest day of the year so far, the humidity heavy in the air and making the sidewalks and parks of New York City intensely uncomfortable. Even though Stark has the Tower equipped with the latest technology, he's incapable of leaving anything well enough alone. He'd been tinkering with the HVAC and somehow short-circuited the entire system. Everyone in the Tower was miserable and cranky, choosing to avoid one another in an attempt to stave off arguments and confrontations.

You'd been sitting in the shade of the balcony, fanning yourself as you watched all the teeny tiny people on the ground maneuver the crosswalks and traffic to get to where they were going. It was no warmer outside than it was in your room, so you chose to people-watch instead of lay there and sweat miserably on your clean sheets.

Just as some bratty kid you’d been watching chucked the ice cream he’d been yelling for only moments ago onto the sidewalk, the sliding glass doors behind you whooshed open. The sound of metal knocking against the doorframe had let you know that Bucky was the one to interrupt your spying.

Regretfully turning your neck, you felt your skin sliding wet and hot against itself. A frown marred your features as you stared at Bucky as he stood behind you, his eyes alight with mischievous glee.

“What did you do…?” You question slowly, almost afraid to know what that look was all about.

He shrugged a shoulder and smirked. “Nothing too bad.”

“BARNES!!!” a voice roared from the depths of the Tower.

You quirked an eyebrow at him and a small, disbelieving smile graced your lips. “That doesn’t sound like nothing, Buck.”

Bucky hmm’d and glanced back into the building when a CRASH reverberated from where the voice had yelled moments ago. “I was going to get out of here for a while. You wanna come?” he questioned breezily.

“And why would I want to leave when Tony’s working on fixing the AC?” you replied as you continued to fan yourself. Bucky’s eyebrows had quirked ever so slightly.

“Y/L/N!!!”

Your hand had frozen mid-fan and your eyes widened so much that Bucky couldn’t help but laugh.

“Where’d you say we were going?” you asked as you rose quickly from your seat and bypassed Bucky at the door.

“You little shit!” You had laughed uproariously when Bucky finally admitted to the prank.

“What else was I gonna do?” he responded, turning his face to look at you.

Even with the intense heat that day, you and Bucky had decided to forgo the climate controlled vehicles in the garage and went instead with the fastest getaway vehicle – Bucky’s bike. The wind had whipped against your body when you held onto Bucky and watched the city fall into the distance behind you.

He apparently hadn’t had a destination in mind, so you had ridden until cities and towns disappeared. He’d pulled off beside a barely visible hiking trail and jumped off his bike. You had followed suit and watched as Bucky pulled a blanket from inside the storage compartment on the bike. You hiked your eyebrows questioningly, but only got a grin in response.

That’s how you had found yourself lounging on a blanket in the middle of a field with Bucky on the hottest day of the year. You’d chatted and laughed for hours until the sun had slowly faded from the sky. Out that far, the light pollution of the cities couldn’t touch the stars. You had gazed upwards, trying to draw the constellations as you remembered them.

You weren’t any good at astrology or astronomy, but the stories behind the figures in the sky captivated you nonetheless.

You laughed again and turned to face him as well. “And why’d you have to implicate me, huh?”

“Figured it’d be more fun that way,” he had answered slyly.

You had wound your arm up and smacked him on the stomach, your hand bouncing off of the toned muscles. He’d caught your wrist on the next swing and held it up and away from his body. You’d tried to tug it away, but his metal fingers held fast and didn’t let you go. You rolled over toward him and began trying to use your body as leverage, but you had only succeeded in pulling yourself closer to him.

You huffed and blew the piece of hair that had fallen over your eyes away and looked up at him. He’d had a look in his eyes that he hadn’t directed at you before, but you’d seen glimpses of it when he’d find someone to bring back for the night.

You can’t help but think that that moment had been the turning point in your friendship with Bucky, the moment he thought about asking you to be friends-with-benefits. Of course you’d found him handsome long before then, but that was a moment that really cemented your attraction to him.

You didn’t have romantic feelings at the time, but you should have known they were inevitable.

I've been into scene and emo music and fashion since I was very young and I'm currently 22 years old and let me just say that me and my friend who was scene growing up would have been listening to 6arelyhuman's music.

(While scene music is made up of crunkcore, electronicore, metalcore and pop punk specifically neon pop punk lots of people just call it scene music to keep things short and simple so thats what I'm doing :3)

People have considered s3rl's music has been popular in the scene while being considered to be scene music and Nevershoutnever's music is also popular in the scene and considered scene music and Brokencyde's music is scene yet all of those artists are so different from each other so why isn't 6arelyhuman's music scene music? Because it definitely is. Scene music isn't just made up of one genre.

(Even Kesha's music was super popular in the scene community! :3)

Its okay to say you don't like 6arelyhuman's music but it definitely is scene and I feel like one of the issues we have is how we really like to box things in nowadays and we just end up gatekeeping more than we really should and in the end things become more complicated and lots of fighting and we see people arguing over stuff that is very silly.

I am personally tired of constantly putting things and creativity in restraining boxes when it doesn't make any sense or i know that it feels wrong. That's not because I'm trying to be better than anyone but because I have lots of experience because this has been something I have been into for a long time and experienced growing up.

I also feel that we don't talk enough about how the scene intersects a lot. Pop punk bands have made emo songs, pop punk bands have been considered scene, both scene and emo kids listen to post hardcore and metalcore etc. Like it intersects A LOT and a lot of these bands in the scene have also toured together and have been in festivals together like Warped Tour.

(6arelyhuman definitely would have been playing on Warped Tour if they made music back when Warped Tour was alive and active :3)

I'm just tired of seeing the gatekeeping and the arguing, I've seen this so many times in the past especially in the emo community and I'm tired of seeing it everywhere and it's sad seeing it still happen. It reminds me of when I see metalheads gatekeep on Facebook lolz! I want to add that I'm not trying to shame those who say these types of things because I know that they are most likely minors who are still new to the scene and are just trying to find their way around and are still learning and looking for advice, I used to be exactly like that but as someone who has been into this stuff for a long time I just felt like I needed to speak up. This has been a huge part of my life and has been my special interest for so long and the urge to want to say something has been craaaaazzzzyyyy lolz!

Another thing I want to add is that there is nothing bad about growth and change either even if it can be scary at times, sometimes it's not always a bad thing and is needed for a community to continue to thrive. Artists like 6arelyhuman help people get into the scene and get into other scene and emo artists.

And that's a good thing :3

So let's encourage growth, change and inclusion. That's what the scene should be about <3

The thing about Imogen and Laudna’s relationship is that I want to like it so bad. Not just because it’s a very important relationship for two PCs that takes up a lot of runtime, but because there are a lot of elements that could be explored in the relationship that I really like the idea of. For instance, how do you navigate a close relationship with someone who can look into your mind? What kind of trust does that necessitate you build, what kind of boundaries do you have to set and how, and what happens if those boundaries are crossed? Is that imbalance in the relationship uncomfortable for Laudna? For Imogen? How would the circlet have changed this theoretical conflict?

But then those elements just… don’t get explored. Nothing gets explored. The relationship is stagnant, nothing ever changes, and the few conflicts that can’t be avoided get smoothed over without actual resolution so that they can go back to the place they started from all the way in episode 1. And there’s nothing to imply that the reason they’re so conflict free is that they worked out the biggest bumps in their dynamic before the stream, they’ve already communicated a lot and set up the most comfortable form of their relationship, and now it’s mostly smooth sailing (and even then, even the longest and best relationships still have conflicts you need to work through). No, everything signals that they’ve just avoid anything that could possibly cause conflict for years. Conflict or some other interruption of the status quo is how things change, and that’s how people grow, but they avoid any break in the status quo at all costs.

And because they avoid conflicts, they never grow in the relationship, they never explore, they never change it, nothing changes. And because the relationship is so important to both characters, because it takes up so much of their time in general and on screen, it feels like it also keeps Imogen and Laudna from growing individually. Both of them, but especially Laudna, had amazing arcs and great growth when they were separated from each other. Way more than when they were together. And even that feels like it’s getting pushed under the rug again, they’re reverting back to episode 1 status quo Laudna and Imogen.

And the worst part is that every time there’s been conflict in the relationship I’ve loved it. The gnarlrock thing, Laudna expressing her frustration at the other half of the party, those were really really good moments. I genuinely loved their dynamic in those moments, I want more of the relationship those moments imply. But they’re few and far between, and when they happen, the two back away from the issue and revert back to the status quo.

And I don’t think this is bad characterization, I think it makes sense for them, and I’ve made posts before about why I think their relationship is that way. But it is so constant, so unchanging, that it just gets tiring to watch. Especially when no other character ever acknowledges this part of their relationship, they all encourage it. Like, the kiss was cute for sure, but what did it do in their relationship? Nothing. If you removed the kiss there would be no discernible before and after.

I don’t begrudge anyone liking the relationship, if you do that’s great. I do genuinely mean that, I am glad that you like their relationship, I really wish I did. I want to like it so bad. But I just don’t. I’m tired of it. I wish the stuff I liked in the potential of their relationship would ever get brought up. If things do change for them, I will be so excited, but based on how it’s been going, they don’t seem like they will anytime soon. This is very lightly edited and way longer than I meant it to be, but the point is that god I wish I loved them, but god I really really don’t.

Still blows my mind knowing that the airport scene exists. It brings awkwardness, tension, lies, and we’re even introduced to the notion of a finished painting - which, in some ways, represents all three of those things combined. Without the airport scene, we would have never gotten conflict. Without conflict, we would have never gotten the fight. Without the fight, we would have never gotten the apology. Without the apology, we would have never seen trust be rebuilt. Without the trust being rebuilt, we might not have ever seen the van scene.

All thanks to the unfortunate dishonesty in the airport scenes, we have amendments, growth, and payoffs later on. For Byler, it’s comfort, ease, and honesty. Mike declared his “best friend”-ship with Will again and they both wanted it. Will revealed that that painting was for him. Mike said what Will “didn’t have to” - what Will gave, instead. Their love came around for each other; they conjured up speeches for each other, no longer holding their hearts back. Yes, even with Will’s circumstances in the van scene. He gave Mike his soul with that encouragement as did Mike to Will in Will’s room four episodes prior.

Imagine if Mike and Will were all good at the airport. Imagine that they hugged just fine, no problems or suppressed feelings to get lost in. Imagine them being comfortable enough to provide physical comfort (like Mike did in season 2) with every heart-to-heart. Imagine Will never brought up the painting again. Imagine all the awkwardness, tension, and lies, gone or completely not about each other. The show and the fandom reaction to Byler would be pretty different, wouldn’t it?

But we did get that airport scene. We did get the setup of all the issues for them to be fixed. Call it forced proximity, call it the naturalization of distance making the heart grow fonder, call it whatever you like. The Duffers wrote Mike and Will with an awkward, tense, and dishonest start in the beginning of season 4. And unlike Mike and El, Mike and Will made clear amends in that same season, again, leaving them in comfort, ease, and honesty with each other.

Their relationship lasts. It has lasted the threat of death, it has lasted hell and back, it has lasted multiple fights, it has lasted 6 months with little to no contact. It has lasted seasons which have taken years. And yes, seasons 1-3 did highlight all the good things that Mike and Will did while they lived near each other so it was relatively easy to maintain their relationship, but after that distance, things changed. Will was rudely awakened of such at that airport scene. That change is the kicker. That change caused the both of them to act differently around each other when they first reunited. But despite the clear changes in their relationship and behaviors, they fused back together in about three episodes - two days time! After 6 months of “maybe a couple” calls total! That’s not just quick reconciliation, that’s gravitation at play. Mike expressed loss without Will. Will expressed need for Mike. After all that time, their relationship was still pretty damn strong for them to make statements like they did.

And this happened not because they were together, but because they were apart. And not just because they were apart, but because they felt what it was like being apart, didn’t like it, and wanted what they had back.

And it all began because of Mike’s stiff little bro pat at the airport, which is a whole journey in itself.

One thing that I adore about Sukuna and Hime’s bond was that from the minute these two met, this relationship was bound to end horribly. They were never supposed to have a good ending no matter how many times you try to look at it through different angles.

At first, it tricks you into thinking that they COULD have a hopeful future together if they evade the obstacles coming their way (ex: Junichiro, Suiten, the villagers, jujutsu society, etc.) so that they could be alone and finally be truly happy, making their own happy ending together.

But it just never happens.

The hard part to swallow here, is that it wasn’t even because of Junichiro that the pair wasn’t able to stay together and be meant for each other. It was Sukuna.

Bear with me here, let me explain.

Ever since I read the full backstory on Shisui back in the first book of “A Fish Out of Water”, I suspected that the relationship between Shisui and Sukuna seemed to act like a mirage.

I don’t know why, but it just struck me as fake no matter how many times I tried to reread the Shisui arc over and over again (I kept rereading to make sure I wasn’t actually overthinking).

Shisui was fine on her end. She acted like any good friend would do and was true to herself when she voluntarily stayed with Sukuna.

But that’s the problem. Unlike Shisui, Sukuna wasn’t acting like his true self.

And no, I’m not talking about the fact that he was being fake “sometimes” because he had his eating urges.

I’m talking about the fact that his humanity was never actually there to begin with.

We see his real self through some small glimpses LIKE the eating urges or when he had the sadistic idea to pour salt on his aunt’s soon-to-be lover when he was questioning him about the Uchiumi clan. Even the smallest things like stealing some snacks from some stands made him seem less sympathetic. His rude and uncaring demeanour wasn’t made up by the villagers’ cruel treatment to him. This guy just didn’t care from the start. Even when he was a kid, his aunt precisely stated that he wasn’t a normal kid. He learned quickly, he spoke correctly, he studied well and had control over his abilities which held a lot of potential for becoming a future jujutsu sorcerer. He did all of this when he was just a kid.

It always confused me how Shisui kept saying that Sukuna was kind-hearted and selfless, when he was none of those. None of his actions made him look like a possible good person but then again, this is Shisui we’re talking about. She speaks a lot with her heart and not with her head (like how she told him that she’ll still love him even if he was a curse).

So then, if Sukuna was never supposed to act like a real human despite being born as one, what made him act like one? Well that’s easy, it was because everyone around him was looking and acting like a human. (did u rly think I was gonna say Shisui??? omg that’s so cute-)

Shisui was the one who encouraged him to continue faking himself. That’s why his body was slightly physically different (ex: red hair, black claws, red eyes) but not too different to the point that he looked like a monster with four arms and eyes already. His body felt like it was stuck in the middle of his growth, not reaching his fullest potential but not being at his lowest either.

Ever since his birth, he was supposed to ascend and yet he didn’t because his growth got sidetracked by his aunt who tried showing him the rights and wrongs (basically taught him self-awareness and stuff that a parent should teach their child) of this world. Then, Shisui came and pushed that narrative of “showing sympathy and selflessness” in his agenda, slowing his growth process even more.

That’s why he still looked human enough back when he was a kid.

When he was older, that’s when things started to complicate for him. His body was sick of not receiving the food that he needed, so it began to retaliate and grow without his control (ex: the mouth that appeared on his stomach that one day). And after all that, Sukuna was still trying to keep it together. It was literally like dealing with a ticking time-bomb: you don’t know when it’ll set off but you just know that when it does, you better hide cuz that bitch will hurt.

That’s why Junichiro wasn’t the cause of Sukuna and Shisui’s downfall. He was only the one who discovered the bomb and underestimated it. Like a kid playing with a knife or a pair of scissors.

Sukuna secretly craves blood, fresh meat, and disorder. He doesn’t care about selflessness or caring. He only practises these two things with Shisui because “someone once said ‘If you love someone, you let them go.’”In the end, he was still pretending for the sake of pleasing Shisui, someone who has said she’ll love him unconditionally, someone who still wanted to be with him despite the fear and evil aura he emits around him, someone who has shown physical proof that he’ll still be loved without his human form when she started cooing at his stomach mouth, someone who he wants all for himself. He was acting like a selfless human because he thought that was what you were supposed to do.

Her death was the fire that set everything all up. Why keep pretending when the source of your pretending ceases to exist? Just let yourself go and grow up.

And that’s what Sukuna did. He literally grew up and reached his true form. There were no shackles or restraints anymore. He could do whatever he wanted without any restrictions or rules, HE was the one that ordered around.

He even said that he wished he would’ve ascended sooner in order to reach this form. (“WHO KNEW YOU WORTHLESS MEAT BAGS COULD TASTE SO GOOD?! I SHOULD’VE KILLED YOU ALL FROM THE START!”)

In the end, it didn’t even matter if Shisui had died on that day or not. He would have still eventually stopped himself from believing in his own crap and ascended. Because he secretly needed to AND wanted to.

When I finally read chapter 6 of Bloodflood and saw Hime distraught at the fact that she had truly lost Sukuna for good, I found it sad.

The old Sukuna would’ve understood her fears. He would’ve vowed to help set her free. He… he wouldn’t do this.

She finally got the message.

The Sukuna she loved was long gone.

When she died all those years ago, she had taken his heart with her.

Hime still does not understand that there was never even a sympathetic Sukuna to come back to. Sure, his human self is long gone, but it only grew to become an ascension. If Sukuna could do it all over again, he wouldn’t listen to her and try to set her free. Not at all. The thought wouldn’t even cross his mind.

Hime didn’t lose Sukuna. He’s right there still alive and breathing.

There never was a “selfless Sukuna”. It was all in Shisui’s head.

Her reaction felt like losing an imaginary friend.

there's so much i wanna say but i fear i run the risk of accidentally spilling something i shouldn't, so i'll just say this:

Oh!! I love this too! I was going to make a joke about Lava Lamp still sitting on the roof all by himself but Fai made it BETTER by physically coming over and checking on him. Which implies that at the end of the last chapter, when Fai finally looked away from the metaphors of his past and looked up at the sky, he probably saw Lava Lamp up here on his own and went over to try help him feel a bit better.

Which even on its own is such a great signal of Fai moving away from the things that used to chain him to his fate (ie, the things that he saw in his reflection), and instead actively moving towards this family he’s found and focusing on loving them instead.

And! And this is a GREAT echo of that moment in the Hanshin republic, where Syaoran was crying alone in the rain and Kurogane and Fai used their kudan to shield him from it in solidarity. But THIS time Fai notices Lava Lamp sadly sitting by himself and HE’S the shadow that falls across him as he PHYSICALLY comes here to help him instead.

OH THE GROWTH OF IT ALL.

Now that I think about it this might actually be the first private conversation we’ve seen between Lava Lamp and Fai, which is a bit wild, but also a bit less wild considering WHICH arcs they’ve been through together so far. Even in Infinity Fai was either cloistered with Sakura or Kurogane, so I could be wrong, but this might be their first onscreen bonding!

And it’s going pretty good so far. Fai starts off by expressing concern over his health and Lava Lamp immediately derails it by thanking him for helping Sakura. Which surprises Fai, but then again their devotion to Sakura is pretty much the biggest thing they have in common so far.

Oh and THIS is fantastic. Fai has a sad smile on his face as he says that being there for Sakura was pretty much the only thing he ended up doing for her in the end, and Lava Lamp (perhaps with a note of self-derision? Or regret?) says that Fai being there for her probably helped more than anything else at all.

Which I LOVE in the way that it visually uses Sakura in Infinity as their point of reference. Fai was constantly by Sakura’s side for those months, helping her through one of the hardest things she’s had to do, when she was forcing herself to be alone in order to save everyone else. But I ALSO love that their closeness is purely seen as a positive thing by both Lava Lamp AND Fai, showing that he doesn’t even think of the fact that “being by her side” is what technically let his curse kill her. It doesn’t even come up, he doesn’t even look conflicted about the wording.

Fai is HEALING and he DESERVES IT. He’s no longer seeing fault in everything he’s ever done, and isn’t blaming himself for the curse that wasn’t his fault or the choices that Sakura made without his knowledge. Now he only sees it as a time that they were close and supported each other and OH that’s so encouraging to see.

Meanwhile Fai gives him a bit of a hand hover in support, as he considers touching his shoulder

OH BUT HE DOESN’T COMMIT.

ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING.

They haven’t really had the chance to personally grow close enough for that, with everything else happening. BUT they still look toward the future together, united in their goal to save Sakura, and Fai still stands protectively over him as they look in the same direction.

Thinking of Darcy/Emma after your poll and how they would 100% encourage each others snobbishness lol can you think of a scenario where they could still have their respective awakenings as a couple?

Hi, anon! I agree that they would absolutely reinforce each other's snobbishness (and tendency to interfere in other people's lives! Harriet is totally Emma's Bingley).

I think a lot would depend on when the divergence that leads to their romance happens. I don't think either character's growth is 100% contingent on their canon romance—that is, I don't think Darcy is intrinsically incapable of ever realizing the error of his ways without Elizabeth or Emma without Mr Knightley.

Buuut what makes those canonical events so powerful is that Darcy/Emma is hearing something that nobody else was really able and willing to tell them. Emma in particular is basically stuck in a community where vanishingly few people would ever call her on her shit. And while Darcy has more mobility, he's still not going to run into many people who would seriously object to how he thinks and be in a position to tell him so. The Hunsford rejection was a totally new experience.

You could rearrange the timelines so that the AU for one of them is after they've basically already had their awakening and that one is able to influence the other (e.g. Darcy meets Emma after Elizabeth's rejection). I don't like the imbalance there, though, so my preferred scenario would be one where either a) they've both had something of their respective awakenings already, somehow, when they marry, or b) neither have, but they still end up challenging each other enough that eventually they do end up mutually course-correcting.

The second is preferable to me, and I can sort of see it? Like, I think Emma cares more about day to day courtesies than Darcy does and would disapprove of behavior like that at the Meryton assembly. At the same time, I think Darcy has a stronger sense of societal responsibility when it comes to dependents or vulnerable people (Emma also has some, but I don't think on the same scale) and would be uncomfortable at best with something like Emma's approach towards a poor dependent on her community at Box Hill. So while they have plenty in common, I can see their values colliding at certain points that lead to a more gradual character growth.

Whether that would ever take them past their snobbery and interfering ... hmm, it would depend on the particular scenario. Their social world would be so different from where they end up in canon (if Darcy and Bingley don't go to Hertfordshire in the first place, there's no connection with the Bennets or Gardiners, while after Mr Woodhouse's death, I think Mr Knightley and the Highbury community would be largely out of the picture for Emma) that I can think of ways they could grow beyond themselves together, but it wouldn't really be tied to their canons, so not particularly rewarding to write about.

No one look at me right now. I started thinking about how the new season is going to undo one of the most defining qualities of Epsilon as an individual if that really was Tex in the trailer. Because of all the iterations of Leonard Church - Director, Alpha, Epsilon – Epsilon was the only one who managed to Let Go of Allison, to stop chasing her ghost, to be able to grow past that grief.

And then I started thinking about the fact that Epsilon is different from the two other Churches because of that, but why?

Because it was just the point in the narrative for him to get over her?

Or because as much of an impact as Epsilon left on Washington, Washington left his own impact on the AI. Washington, who was pretty social before Epsilon, who shows an emotional growth and maturity as the seasons progress, who encourages Carolina to find a balance between moving on and forgetting completely when it comes to her grief over her own lost love, York, left even the barest hint of a road map for Epsilon to have personal growth outside of his predefined Churchness.

Or because Epsilon was Alpha once, and he was reconstructed in Alpha's image, but not Alpha's image of himself. Epsilon is reconstructed in Caboose's image of Alpha. Caboose, who saw the best in Alpha and eventually learned himself how to let Church go, who, when faced with the option of saying goodbye or saving Church, chose to say goodbye even though it hurt him so much because he understood he couldn't erase what had happened even if he brought Church back.

And I feel like it matters that even though Epsilon didn't originally 'remember' Tucker, it was his mental image of Tucker who called him out on how shitty and stalkery the 'follow her down through the layers' thing was. And not just because 'Tucker's the snarky judgemental one.'

And I do enjoy the 'do we have to call them canon?' later seasons, because they continued this theme of closure and grief with (Caboose and) Carolina, except like Epsilon, she managed to confront her grief and move on. She might still love York, but she's not going to chase his ghost to the detriment of others, and she might feel like she's failed in her duty to Wash by letting him walk into that bullet, but they're going to get through it all together. She faced the thing her father did, and she did better.

I just.

Carolina said herself “Dad died when Mum did.” And yeah the Director lost himself to grief when Allison died.

Alpha was within the Meta, with Beta, when the EMP went off killing all the AIs in the Meta's head.

Epsilon managed to start healing from that bullshit.

Like, I'm pretty sure he reabsorbed the Epsi-Tex (Texsilon?) fragment he made when he did that, and that's where she went, but dude. Please. He was moving on, he had reached Acceptance.

Epsilon, who's entire identity is based on being someone else's memories, broke free from that in built script.

When Epsilon died, it wasn't chasing someone he had lost, or fixing the mistakes of his past, it was to save the people he had.

Don't get me wrong, I adore Tex, and I would love for Alpha|Church and Beta|Tex to have a happily ever after (they are way too dysfunctional for it to be considered healthy by normal standards but let them do them it's more entertaining that way) and I'm happy Epsilon's not dead anymore, but just let me lie here for a while having feels over the reasons why Epsilon|Church could do what Director and Alpha couldn't.

I think there’s something really brilliant about Aabria and Oscar’s handling of Wuvvy and Rue in ACoFaF. Wuvvy initially presented as fully devoted and supportive of Rue, encouraging them in seeking romance (even if they don’t like it) and enjoying the Bloom and revealing themself... and Rue swept up in that as they wrote that first letter - that ill fated one - that inevitably broke the sanctity of their relationship because of Rue’s decision to Command the letter’s destruction in their PANIC. After that - the duel and onward - were messy messy decisions by Wuvvy fueled by hurt and jealousy and of course then leaning into their position and their court - even so much as mixing with the big wigs in the Parlour scene.

It’s such a real feeling situation, despite being faeries and whatnot, of Coming Out and realizing that even the people who are closest to you who encourage you are truly not always on board for what being your true self means and the rippling changes in your life that come from that. That by opening yourself up to the world and others in full honesty, that you no longer fit your past molds, and that can sometimes drive a rift between people because those others are unable to grow alongside you. Because despite them telling you that they LOVE YOU for the real you, they don’t - truly - because they don’t SUPPORT what that means for you or understand why changes must happen. Wuvvy thinks that saying ‘I love you’ is truth, but its really just a mask of their own and something they have told themself and told Rue so many times that they want it to be Enough. Wuvvy hasn’t actually told Rue the truth about their feelings - I’m talking about lying by omission - and really the best show of caring and support and compassion is mutual communication and mutual growth. The first step to healing is also saying ‘this thing that has happened has hurt me and I need you to know that so we can work together move past the hurt’. And sometimes life changes can take people different directions but the way this has gone indicates that split may be a bad one, when it could in fact be understood and caring and mutual.

It feels very real and something I think alot of people feel as they get older and find themselves. Also that when that open communication never happens and those people grow apart, the looking back is sort of bittersweet - but also not anything that feels like you should make the effort to repair - because you really are different people and you have found the support and love elsewhere and many people love you and you love them, with full acceptance and honesty and care without guilt or with strings attached.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, Nathaniel and Jarod stood outside their newly renovated camper, surveying their humble abode with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. After graduating from university, the duo had decided to embark on a new adventure in the charming town of Swansdale, seeking a simpler and more sustainable way of life.

"Can you believe we're finally here, Nathaniel?" Jarod exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face as he admired their handiwork.

Nathaniel nodded, a sense of contentment washing over him. "It's been quite the journey, hasn't it? But I have a feeling this is just the beginning."

With the camper now their home base, Nathaniel wasted no time in bringing his vision to life. Armed with a passion for sustainability and a desire to make a difference, he set out to establish his own business, which he aptly named EcoHarmony Consultancy. The business aimed to provide eco-friendly solutions and promote sustainable practices within the community of Swansdale.

Meanwhile, Jarod delved into the world of politics, securing a position as a campaign worker. His outgoing nature and natural charisma made him a hit among the townsfolk, and he relished the opportunity to connect with his constituents and make positive changes in their lives.

However, as months passed, Jarod's political career hit a snag. Budget cuts and bureaucratic red tape made it increasingly difficult for him to enact the changes he had promised during his campaign. Frustration mounted as he struggled to navigate the complexities of local government, and soon enough, he found himself at odds with his colleagues.

"I thought politics was supposed to be about helping people, not endless meetings and paperwork," Jarod grumbled one evening, slumping into a chair at the kitchen table.

Nathaniel, ever the voice of reason, placed a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder. "I know it's tough, Jarod. But remember why you got into this in the first place. You have the opportunity to make a difference, even if it's not always easy."

"You know, Nathaniel, I may have lost my job, but I haven't lost sight of why I wanted to get into politics in the first place," Jarod said, a newfound determination shining in his eyes.

And as the stars twinkled overhead, casting their gentle glow upon the camper, Nathaniel and Jarod found solace in the knowledge that, no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would always have each other's backs.

The last part of the trial and the credits were long, but I have fully experienced the finale The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles!

I finally know the truth behind The Professor case that took place ten years before the present day in-game.

Parts of it, I guessed correctly - that Genshin Asogi actually did take someone's life and Mael Stronghart was the true mastermind, but other parts really surprised me - Seishiro Jigoku was involved in the plot that ultimately killed Genshin, and Klint van Zieks was the mass murderer all along.

I also couldn't have predicted the extent of Stronghart's involvement - there was hardly a single person that he didn't blackmail or extort the whole time! Ryunosuke, Susato, Yujin, Sholmes and Iris were all very lucky in that respect.

But Genshin's incredible foresight to hide Klint's will (both a confession and his last words to his surviving family) - was truly what allowed the truth to come to light in the end.

And it was an emotionally devastating truth, both to Kazuma Asogi and Barok van Zieks.

Kazuma, who believed his father was completely blameless and convicted on forged evidence learned that Genshin actually did take Klint's life.

Barok, who idolized his brother and held him up as a paragon of justice found out that Klint took many lives (some under duress from Stronghart, who Barok trusted until now) - and he could only be stopped in a duel to the death with Genshin.

And all of this would have stayed hidden if Ryunosuke hadn't been in Great Britain, growing from an inexperienced nervous student of law to a true attorney who helps his client uncover the truth.

The truth is a guiding light, and that's demonstrated. It doesn't always lead to happiness, but it can lead to closure. And that's exactly what he brought to both Kazuma and Barok, who held onto resentment and darkness for ten long years. And those who stray from that guiding light remain in the darkness, like Stronghart, treating people as mere things to achieve their own version of "peace" and "justice" at so many others' expense.

And while the Herlock Sholmes Deus Ex Machina (the hologram broadcast to the Queen of England!) did happen out of nowhere to stop Stronghart from pulling a whole Karma Houdini, that doesn't take away from the fact that it was Ryunosuke who found the evidence.

Ryunosuke is the one who pieced together the truth that was covered up (or in Genshin Asogi's case, protected until the right time came long.) It was his effort that won the day, and all the characters acknowledge him for this. He grows and the narrative awards him for it! He knows what he's going to do with the rest of his life now - return back home to Japan as a defense lawyer.

And it's because of him that other characters have a future to think about.

Gina wants to keep the Inspector's spirit she saw in her old boss Gregson alive (but without the spying of course) after getting a final letter from him.

Van Zieks wants to publish the truth about The Professor Case, no matter what it might do to his reputation. He's almost resigned to leave London and the Prosecutor's Office presuming his name will be permanently disgraced, but it's Kazuma who encourages him to stay and continue fighting for the truth in the courtroom.

Kazuma begins to reconcile with Van Zieks, even if he can't truly forgive him for prosecuting his father. He chooses to remain a prosecutor, recognizing that he has to fight his own inner demons and do some personal growth of his own.

Iris has decided to give up the search on finding her "true" father and has acknowledged Sholmes as such, even calling him "The Greatest." But Sholmes has decided that eventually, Iris will know the truth about her parentage.

The minor one or two-case characters also reappear to give some giggles in the post-case credits scenes too.

(My little Benbaro/Harebaro heart was happy to see Albert Harebrayne return since Barok as invited him back to London to go sightseeing. Awww.)

Also the usual British Judge stepping up to declare Barok van Zieks Not Guilty was a nice touch. (I guess I did get my Turnabout Goodbyes parallel after all!)

Overall, I believe The Great Ace Attorney had a nice ending. Was it perfect? No. But did it stick to the overall themes of the story and deliver on those? Absolutely. Was I sold on the Ryunosuke - Kazuma dynamic at the very end? Certainly! Do I want Barok van Zieks to have some relief in what he believes to be a turbulent future ahead? Of course! Is Susato Mikotoba now my favorite assistant of all time? You bet!

I enjoyed the time I spent with this game as I unraveled the mystery of the main story, got to know the characters and really immersed myself in this world. I am glad I picked it up, and I know for sure I will play it again sometime in the future. The game mechanics (old and new) were enjoyable, the music was always on point and the sound effects just added to the bigger picture.

My blind play through was truly a remarkable experience. And one of my favorite Ace Attorney entries, maybe even one of my favorite Nintendo Switch games of all time.

I look forward to the Escapade chapters, which I will look into very soon!
