Real Name: Lina Shirou.

Lina is the daughter of Doctor Clark's assistant, who donated the mitochondrial material for Solid Snake in the "Les Enfants Terribles" project. She doesn't know her biological father, but she knows he was Latin American.

Her childhood was rather happy and normal. In her adolescence, her mother started dating a new boyfriend who works for the CIA, and she doesn't have a very good relationship with him. But the biggest problem for Lina during those years was the bullying she experienced at school. This led her to develop depression and some issues related to the bullying.

But that didn't stop her from pursuing her dream: to become a chef. At the age of 20, she studied culinary arts for two years and worked as a cook and chef in a high-production kitchen at a prestigious hotel for 5 years.

At the age of 27, the high stress, long working hours, and demanding environment made her question and rethink her professional life. As a result, she decided to study to become an AI developer.

At 31, thanks to the connections of her mother's boyfriend, she was able to secure a job at DARPA.

As a newcomer, she wasn't initially assigned to any specific project to work on, which led her to improve some of the programs and implementations at the Mojave Desert facility. This drove her to become obsessed with the speed and efficiency of her programming.

Her effectiveness at work caught the attention of the facility's director, Daniel Carr, who had his eyes set on an ambitious project: creating a new Metal Gear operated entirely by AI, based on MG Rex.

Carr was particularly fixated on the work of the Emmerich Family, having access to all the documents and research conducted by the family at the CIA, ARPA, DARPA, and ARMSTECH, respectively. In this way, the work of Dr. Strangelove fell into Lina's hands, becoming her role model and greatest inspiration in her own work.

What she didn't know was that Daniel Carr is a tyrannical and dictatorial person who wants this MG for his own purposes.

He forcefully offers her to work on the development project of this new REX model, causing alarm Lina's mind about how dangerous this new attempt to recreate weapons manipulated by artificial intelligence with current technology could be.

In her attempt to refuse to be part of the project, it triggers Carr's dominant behavior, resulting in a sexual assault on her with the aim of keeping her with him.

However, it turned out to be the opposite: Lina reported the incident, almost exposing Carr's plans. In his desperation to cover it all up, Carr must expel her from DARPA and labels her as a "traitor" fleeing with too much confidential information.

This leads Lina to flee her home, change her name and appearance to carry out her plan: to warn Hal Emmerich about the use of his research, blueprints, and development of Rex.

She moves to New York to start a new life and manages to contact Hal through the internet, and they begin chatting on February 9, 2017. They form an online friendship for about a month and connect through their shared interest in video games…

hi so this is about a prev tag i included on a post talking about how poc characters are treated in mgs, one i didn't write, um. anyways a couple points to respond to this,

firstly, to be fair to whoever's prev tag i put in there, its not super clear *in game* how his cloning went down esp because raven directly references his (yes, minor) japanese ancestry in the game as if it's a larger part of who he is. and the overall point of the comment on the post is that this Could have actually been a larger part of his character that was instead ignored and altogether forgotten about in later games. i think what prev was trying to say was why point it out at all if you're just gonna ignore it in every following game

second off, just to explain this confusing plot point, solid and liquid (and ig the other clones who didnt survive) were cloned using eggs from dr clark's japanese assistant that had the nucleus removed. so it wasnt the mitochondria or whatever (?????) it was her egg. sorry mitochondria is just. so far off i couldnt resist pointing it out.

so since I said that my other mgs needs more appreaciation, I decided to fix that problem today.

So Dr Nightingale/Rebecca fun facts!!

she hates blood. She often can't look at it without feeling dizzy. Very ironic for a surgeon

when she vents about how much she loves her gf Wolf to Azedi, she cries

she might can't defend herself verbally, but her arms are so strong that she could win Azedi in arm wrestling. Not that she wants to beat up people, she just uses her strenght to open jars for her friends and to hug them

she loves movies a lot, thanks to her mama Dr. Clark. She's a huge movie nerd and could talk about her favorites for hours. Her favorite film, and that's a very big secret of hers, is Shrek

Since I think this is mildly divisive among fans, I was wondering what you think-of all the MGS4 dubiously natural or non-convoluted retcons, the lovable, quirky support staff from Snake Eater turning out to be the assholes responsible for everything turning to shit, was genunely amazing. Right?

MGS4 is my least favorite of the eight-ish canon games, so I definitely have lot of problems with it. But the retcon/reveal of the Snake Eater crew is not one of them.

I think it fits the ongoing theme of the series exemplified by Big Boss: the people who fucked up the world weren't brilliant, scheming supervillains (or a faceless Illuminati, a trope I've come to detest, especially after seeing where that belief has taken my country), but just a handful of fucked-up, stupid, goofy-ass losers. If Big Boss could have gone from a lovable dope who believed in Santa Claus and shat his pants at the thought of Dracula to a full-blown war criminal who wanted endless warfare, then why the heck is it any weirder that Para-Medic could become a mad scientist? Besides, these guys were all CIA and black ops, it's not like they didn't already have "ruthless bastard" baked into their personality, no matter how likable they were.

As a whole, MGS is about Solid Snake and Otacon having to deal with the sins of their fathers, working to dismantle the mess made by Big Boss. It only tracks that Big Boss wasn't the sole responsible party for how it got so bad by the time Solid Snake showed up.

If anything, I'm sad we didn't get to see the actual life stories of the Snake Eater crew, and only heard about their heel turns from EVA (in one of MGS4's many, many endless cutscenes of exposition; that could have been a Codec call!). I wish we could have seen their villain arcs just like we saw with Big Boss in Peace Walker.

But at least V gave us (through optional recordings! As it should have been!) a look at what Zero had become, and how he was both less and more of a monster than we'd been led to believe. I finally had a better idea how Major Zero went from the guy he was in Snake Eater to the guy who manipulated Paz and engaged in a cold war with a man he admired, dragging the whole world into their bullshit.

I tried to do my best to give Para-Medic/Dr Clark the same treatment, in one of the only fics I've completed over the past decade. But I wish there had been more canon to work with. Same with Donald Anderson. I'd still like to know their stories, but alas, we almost certainly never will.

The Salvatore School Shipping Megapost

tl;dr polycule centered on Panda Squad

So the thing is, Hope is annoyingly monogamous in Legacies. She shows zero attraction to anyone who is not Landon, despite the show playing around with the ideas of Rafael, Ethan, and Clarke. We don't even know what her crush on Josie might have looked like. As such, even my favored femslash relationships don't really twig when Hope and the other party are in a good place with each other. What you do get, subtext-wise, is Hope having Feelings when her relationship with anyone isn't quite on track. And, of course, the show packs in all of this stuff about Hope repressing herself in order not to become A Great Evil, and that she does have the capability to be a real social butterfly (and yet even in that relatively unrestrained state, annoyingly monogamous!). The implication is that poly!Hope really only happens in a semi-bad end where she "snaps" and embraces the family hedonism. Otherwise, she'll be clinging to illusions of what normal romantic (monogamous) relationships should look like. So, sadly, I can only see her being partnered with one primary in this polycule, and merely being accepting of having metamours. Everyone else, on the other hand, seems like they could get into the swinging life, and then move on to poly. The show avoided any hint of that (the most we get is Alyssa cheating on MG offscreen), unlike the TORN FEELINGS DRAMZ of TVD and TO, because the writers are apparently nerds hard into traditional ideas of romance, but they and the actors also don't quite know how to differentiate friendship, romance, or lusty chemistry, so their no-romos have the cred of a no-homo by dint of their yes-romos being indistinguishable from the no-romos. Hope-Landon: I like it, to be honest. Landon is so traumatized by episode 2 that he goes all in on communication and truth, and then after the Miss Mystic Falls ep, he is almost always a supportive boyfriend. The show literally has to keep doppelgangering him in order to make Hope not trust him. They have Locked Tomb vibes, with every bit of irony that entails. I'm okay with Landon being a primary! Hope-Lizzie: Yeah, yeah, I'm so easy, I have a ship Type. Where Hope-Landon is a ship that would proceed stably along if it weren't for external factors, Hope-Lizzie is a ship where they want to be on-side, but their very personalities keep leading to them clashing, partially because they don't back down on each other, in positive and negative directions. This harkens back to the way TVDU and TO did relationships that just kept vacillating between opposing polarities, but always with the amplitude on high. No wonder it's compelling as a ship! However, in practice, the "there's never any doubt that they have strong Feelings about each other" is really from Lizzie's end. Hope does desire friendship with her (the strongest point for the ship as mutual feelings is that losing her sire bond is the first tipping point for Hope's humanity coming back), but for the most part, there's an argument to be made that Hope fears loneliness more than wanting any friend in particular. She's used to being resigned about the twins. What's different about Lizzie, though, is that after they reconcile in S1, Hope begins to meet Lizzie where Lizzie is, not holding back on her when they disagree. Because Lizzie is such a dynamic character, and everyone else goes with placating her, this makes Hope-Lizzie a dynamic with more consistent sparks than any other combo, but it's dependent on Lizzie providing that high base level of emotion for Hope to mirror. And, when Hope herself goes too far, the other (more mentally stable) characters tend to choose to disengage, whereas Lizzie is the one who will indignantly go after Hope, which leaves her as the only option for Hope to engage with. So, Hope-Lizzie is endgame in a world where Hope continues to get more dramatic like her family, but otherwise, it's likely that Hope will pick a more "oasis-type" partner. Hope-Josie: Basically femslash Hope-Landon, lol. I have nothing against this ship, but the show doesn't give us much of a look at what their dynamic is without external factors dominating their conversations (all other convos they have are basically processing their childhood). However, Josie's entire arc during the show is that she decides that being around the Squad doesn't allow her the space to re-discover herself and so she has to peace out, and that includes all of Hope's DRAMZ. So, this ship is either something that happens down the road, as like the alternative to the above (Hope picks Lizzie if she embraces the dramaaaaa, and could pick Josie if the world lets her be chill instead), or you have to go with Hope-Twins, lol. (Sidebar, Spring Break Fire is canonically 3 years before S1, and Legacies canonically begins while Hope is 17, meaning that their crushes possibly overlapped before Josie literally burned it all down lol.) Hope-Twins: Yeahhhhh Panda Squad OT3 get it! My actual favorite Legacies ship. Unfortunately, there aren't any fics of this on AO3 that aren't just pure porn, because the Legacies fanfic writers are COWARDS. This ship works out in particular for Josie because per above, just Hope-Josie would still put the onus of support on Josie, but in the Panda Squad configuration, Lizzie makes doubly sure to put Josie first, which solves that issue. The problem, as usual, is that in canon Hope ditches them quite a lot! It's almost like Hope is the Lizzie to the twins' M.G. Hope-Cleo: Into it! Panda Squad is honestly cheating a bit by building in all that history, Hope-Landon gets the canon fiat, but Hope and Cleo have tons of chemistry without either. Cleo also can understand the burdens of being someone chosen, of being elevated in a way that makes others continually look to her. Hope-Clarke: One of the unique things the show did was that Hope stayed devoted to Landon throughout the series. One of the side-effects of this was that there was never a brooding bad boy love triangle rival (which matches the show's not-so-subtle dislike of Damon). At the sme time, that's not going to stop teenage girls from loving that kind of ship, which is why HoLarke seems fairly popular in Legacies fanfic. Honestly, I can relate. HoLarke isn't unlike Hizzie, as a dynamic where both characters are constantly challenging each other, with all of the chemistry sparks that generates. It is to the show's credit that they subverted those expectations so thoroughly (the utter reversal of everything in season 4 was perfect for the themes they were going for in that episode), but hey, ship potential has little to nothing to do with how a canon should go. Hope-Josie-Landon: Lizzie would never let them live it down, lol. This could be the most chill and supportive threesome ever, but I think that they would not be able to weather consistent external pressure without starting to be bad for each other. Essentially, they would gift-of-the-magi themselves into destruction. Lizzie-Hope-Landon: I honestly think that this could go the distance! Lizzie would never actually fall for Landon, but I think that Landon would rise to her provocations and earn her respect, becoming an even better partner for Hope in the process. Landon can moderate when Lizzie and Hope get too into it, as well. As some have pointed out, Lizzie and Landon are both all in on chairing the "no Hope self-sacrifice" club. The fact that they don't mind openly arguing with each other, though, means that they would call each other out before ever running into the situation as described above for Hope-Josie-Landon. Rafael ships: I don't know if this was an acting choice or not, but Hope showed zero feelings for him whatsoever, so Hope-Rafael was sunk from the start. She showed more interest in Ethan than Raf in the Croatoan ep. They also completely dropped the Rafael-Josie thing they played with in the first couple of eps, which was weird. Meanwhile, I do think that down the line, Raf and Lizzie could work, as mature adults, but the show never let us see them really interact after season 1. In general, the show did not know what to do with Raf, and did not let him develop any relationships beyond Landon and Hope, which was a real problem with the writing. No wonder the actor bowed out after S2. Ignoring how badly canon treated Raf, though, I would have been rather into a Hope-Raf, Josie-Landon configuration, because that was some of the best Raf-Landon times, ironically. Raf wasn't wracked by angst, and Landon was really happy for him. Landon-Rafael: The show didn't let Rafael have any other relationships! And at the same time, they didn't let him provide any meaningful resistance to Malivore, either. Change the latter, and this ship basically sails itself. Twincest: Look, I am not immune to wincest. Movies and TV continue to stubbornly not believe that "codependent battle couple" isn't shipping catnip, and their current strategy to no-homo/no-romo the subtext is to make them siblings (see: Frozen, Alias, Supergirl, Merlin, Arrow, Kill La Kill), but that doesn't change that the underlying dynamic is still shipping catnip. Their storylines together were simply the most interesting in the show, too. Ben-Wyatt-meme-"It's all about the [devotion]." Lizzie-MG: Writing really sunk them on this. There's no sense that Lizzie would ever seek out MG in order to relax and have fun, or that MG would enjoy the things that Lizzie was into, or how they would talk to each other without plot reasons to drive the conversation. They're very cognitively aware of each others' appeal points, but this doesn't translate into being able to spark joy for each other in the day-to-day. Even with the "Lizzie is a closet geek" characterisation, which I honestly find dubious, the fact that she so doggedly never indulged that with MG says something about them. Plus, as the whole show's run demonstrated, Lizzie has never put MG first, and MG became a stronger leader by staying away from her. They might work if they skipped straight to raising a kid together, because having that focus would paper over their chemistry gaps, but the moment that kid flew the coop they would crater. Lizzie-Ethan: So, Lizzie's stated taste in ep 1 is hot+angry+damaged, which plays out with Rafael and Sebastian, but obviously the show was subtly linking that to her self-loathing, and the long arc of Lizzie-MG was partially to demonstrate that her tastes would change as she got to a more mentally healthy place. However, she is attracted to Dak Romo, and then just two episodes later, is not attracted to the actual much-more-like-MG Ethan. (And she acknowledges that bad-girl-image Finch is hot, as well.) Then, in S4, she uses Ethan the same way she uses MG, exploiting their blind spots for her. So really, these two ships are basically the same ship, and both demonstrate how much Lizzie is not into either of them. But also, her using Ethan also reinforces that she wants someone with that dark streak, someone willing to be ruthless. Something something supreme daddy's girl something. She doesn't want Big Blue Boy Scout, she wants Wonder Woman snapping Max Lord's neck. MG-Ethan: YES. The Blur-some and E-ssential! Mighty Guy and Rescue Guy! They were a real love story over the course of S3 and S4, and MG had as much chemistry with Ethan as with Kym and Nia. They confide in each other, they try to be better men for each other, they love hanging out, they would be good together. Lizzie-MG-Ethan: Look, this would be a really compelling ship to think about if canon execution hadn't throroughly squashed any notion that Lizzie has credible feelings for either of them. But setting that aside, S4 rather made the case for V-configuration with MG as the pivot, with Lizzie and Ethan as just metamours. Also, the main thing for them is that they would be unstoppable as a football team. Lizzie-Landon: lel. But why not? If the show can try to make Lizzie-MG happen, then Lizzie getting over her nerd hangups could happen with Landon. Of course, this would have to be a no-Hope AU. But we know that Lizzie can be impressed with Landon's moments of showing spine, and once Landon has that kind of loyalty in his corner, I think he would develop to respond to it. MG-Kaleb: They're pretty emblematic of my ambivalent feelings about the show as a whole. The highs are incredibly rewatchable highs, but in between you have a lot of inexplicable time where they seem not to know the other exists, and then also lows where they're arbitrarily estranged for reasons that don't ring true. It hurts this dynamic in particular more than others because there's so little about their dynamic that organically implies the latter two cases. Sure, they could have leaned into the early days of Kaleb stabbing MG in the back during StuCo elections, but the show did not do that, so. They would make a strong romance, nonetheless, but not as primaries, because I think they really prioritize that family connection more, and so retain each other as people to confide in when they're having conflicts with their primaries. Kaleb-Cleo: They're cute. Pancakes was easily their best scene. However, it feels like Kaleb's character development with Cleo wasn't continuous with his character development with everyone else, and that felt odd. Their relationship had very little to do with the primary themes associated with their characters otherwise, not even in a "they are an oasis from the stress of their lives" way. Kaleb-Jed: The last vampire-werewolf rivalry! I would watch that enemies-to-frenemies-to-lovers. Lizzie-Jen: I'm not sure this does work, really, because the worst Lizzie's parents have ever been is not being there in person while working their hardest to make the best world for her and Josie. She fundamentally doesn't know what it is to have a malicious family (even including Dark Josie). I feel like Lizzie wouldn't have the necessary empathy for that not to cause a major conflict in a relationship down the line. But they would work well as non-primaries. Josie-Penelope: I'll agree with a lot of people that this was my favored Josie canon ship, but that's mostly on the strength of Penelope as a character. The relationship itself was pretty one-sided as we saw it in canon, which limits my ability to visualize what they would look like if they were together for the long term. Josie-Finch: It's fine. You can see all of the writing's intentions, and they're executed fine. Josie helps Finch enter a world where she's no longer a loner, and Finch turns that loyalty into someone Josie always has in her corner. But I just don't watch TV for "fine" relationships. Mainly, this ship was at a disadvantage for always limiting Finch's inclusion into the Squad. There's a problem when your reactions to Lizzie aren't distinct! In that sense, the Finch-Jed friendship arc was more interesting. Josie-Jade: We didn't actually get to see what their relationship would have been like. Seems like it would have been pretty boring, or it would have been a case where Jade has hangups and Josie focuses on them, so they have to break up because Josie needs to prioritize herself, etc. They might have done well in a dark AU, with all of the betrayal and Rippers and Dark Josie and whatnot. Other Ethan ships (Hope, Josie): The show was weird about Ethan, throwing him at every member of Panda Squad as a potential love interest, but then not following up except for Lizzie. Hope was sunk by aforementioned annoying monogamy (i.e. she was still hung up on Landon), while Josie was sunk by both Maya's preexisting crush, and Josie's guilt over breaking his arm. Speaking of which, did Ethan ever get to process that with Josie? Jed-Ben: It's fine. They're extremely pretty. They had a lot of future potential. Again, though, the Jed-Finch friendship arc was more interesting. Other MG ships (Alyssa, Kym, Nia): MG sure got to mack on so many people. I think Nia was MG's best match. Kym was a lot of fun, but the point of her being in too much danger is valid. Alyssa ironically shares the same problems as Lizzie, where they theoretically like that MG is kind and supportive, but don't actually like or respect what MG does for his own sense of fun day-to-day, which is toxic in the long run. Here we are again 2023 who can believe its the start of another year how quick it seems to go the older we get, but its true. Its the start of our TWENTY FIFTH year, yes 25 and still going, thats a huge achievement in its self, so well done to those still a part of M.S.G. And this year 2023 we are determine to help take our group forward, we will be looking for ways to promote our group and hopefully help it grow with new members, a lot has to be looked at and does depend on some matters out of our control ie where we hold our current meetings, but what ever happens we will do our best to make it past our 25th year, so we need all your support in taking this forward.

HOPE ON BLOOD FIX

A NEW drug has given fresh hope of tackling untreatable cases of high blood pressure. Baxdrostat stops the body making aldosterone, a hormone that helps regulate our salt levels. In tests, those given the highest dose saw their blood pressure cut by an average of 20 points. Researchers, including Queen Mary University of London, said it “could potentially offer hope to many people”.

I would firstly like to wish each and everyone of you a most joyous, prosperous and trouble-free 2023.

ONE----- I would like to thank every one who turned up for June dines celebration music and buffet event on Tuesday 20th December

and thankyou for making it special for her. She thoroughly enjoyed it especially seeing some familiar faces.

TWO----- As you are all aware our regular tovil meetings every other Tuesday are in the balance at present due to tovil club announcing that it will only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes only. I have spoken to Jane and made some proposals to keep it going, including paying to be there for a couple of hours. Jane has told me that there is a committee meeting on Monday 9th January. Meanwhile our future January dates will be on hold until they get back to us. If their answer is no go, then we will search another venue that is adequate for our needs.

THREE----- Brick lane is fast approaching on Weds 8th Feb ( I am away from 31st jan to 6th feb ) and I would like to collect any monies owing by the end of the month, so if we do not meet perhaps send me a cheque payable to me.

The panto this year is goldilocks and the three bare bears. We will be going by Brookline coaches and leaving tovil 10.30/11am latest. The cost is £50 pp inc show, 3-course lunch and coach.

Para-Medic and Dr. Anthony Clark. Yes, the version of Clark who is meant to be a completely separate character from Para-Medic. And yes, he’s actually a man this time.

A bit of backstory on them: they worked together and were married lovers during their earlier years so they share the same last name as a result. Despite appearing to be charming at first, Anthony soon revealed himself to be abusive and manipulative. She was able to get out of the relationship with the help of Major Zero, who got her the help she needed.

After Zero’s retirement from the military, she went back to working alongside Anthony as a lab assistant (since realistically abuse victims often return to their abusers). She found he hasn’t changed at all and even became horrified with the unethical experiments he was carrying out. Eventually Anthony was killed in the hands of Grey Fox. Para-Medic was presumed by the Anti-Patriot Faction to be killed in the explosion afterwards but managed to survive and escape.

As for the Japanese assistant that was mentioned in canon, I was thinking she could just be an intern?

Legacies 2x05: Anti/Climax

Hello my fellow Legacies fans!

So, I’m just going to be straight with you here:

1) This was not my favorite epi.

2) I was born in the middle of the 80s and not a time that I miss. BTW, still makes me a Millennial, just one of the “old ones,” and, yes, okay, I still like teenage TV shows. Mainly the ones that include the supernatural..

3) The best parts of the 80s, in my humble opinion, were the music and the movies. And you only got little hints of those things in this epi. Just one of the reasons it wasn’t a fav of mine.

Anyway, let’s get to what happened last night.

Sebastian. Oh, you lie! You’re a bad, bad vampire man. Sebastian is actually one of the best parts of last night’s epi. We found that he will happily go about sucking on the locals of Mystic Falls until someone stops him. My money is on Lizzie. Or it could be Kaleb. or Hope. Or Ric.

I loved watching Sebastian and MG interact. They were just really funny with Sebastian picking on and generally irritating the shit out of MG. And the fact that neither of these “scary vamps’ can fight worth a damn was the best part.

Kaleb’s getting Sebastian to reveal that S wants to go eat people was the best fake-out of the epi. Well, next to Lizzie telling The Keeper aka the newest Villian to pop out of the depths of Mali she would take over The Game. Sure. Noooooo! Not if it meant Hope gets eaten by the Minotaur. EW!

As much as I loved to see Lizzie and Hope bonding, again, (they are my fav friendship of the show) it felt a bit like their time in the game meant discussing questions that never really got answers. Although it was funny. And we did get that Penelope Park mention from Lizzie, again. Who wants Pen to come back? Lizzie! And Jo, even though she never says it. It also seems to be that Lizzie is a Handon shipper. Maybe. Or maybe she just wants Hope to go back to Landon to get him away from Jo?

Lets talk Posie for a sec. Jo went and found Landon’s song about Hope why? Because of Pen’s pen from “Let’s Finish the Dance,” S1. Thank you, Pen! you’re awesome! And it saved the shippers who did not want to see Landon and Jo “go all the way” from seeing that: *Cough* Handon, Posie and Hosie shippers *Cough*. Cover your eyes, children! Don’t look! Never mind. Crisis averted.

We did deal with a few other lingering questions like...

Why was the blood fountain important and it makes us wonder about what bad thing would come from it being moved? It feeds Sebastian. Poor Seb. You haven’t had a bite to eat in centuries and then you get that foul stuff in your mouth. But then you used Wade as mouthwash. Sorry, Wade. RIP.

Where is Emma? We don’t know. Dorian doesn’t know. They broke up. RIP, Dormma.

Dr. V really is evil. Why? CAUSE HE’S RYAN FREAKIN’ CLARKE! Magic ring, we knew you could do things but this, Ahhhhhhh! and if Dr. V does not really exist, who interviewed with Caroline? Should we be worried bout the headmistress’ whereabouts? I mean, yes, she was with Lizzie, during the summer. But we don’t know if Lizzie was on her way home when Dr. V and Care talked. And Hope thought it was weird that Care would hire V in epi, 2....

Landon IS a virgin! Does that mean anything for the plot? Who knows? Other than the poor boy is trying to make it special and Mail wants to use him to play Lothario. Really? From never having done it to sleeping with every girl he meets? guys are known to do that....

Ric confronted Jo about the vote. Jo wants Ric to have a life. In other words, “Dad, go and play, so I can! Go! Bye!” Nothing bad will happen there...

Kym, Kaleb’s sis made an appearance which might mean that KG shipper can look forward to more of that ship.

And one of my fav parts was Landon’s inability to find a condom while “Holding Out for a Hero” plays in the background. But like the end of Landon’s journey, I didn’t feel like there was a real ending to this chap, more like a dot, dot, dot... We’ll see what happens next week...

The first version is the story as it was originally published in the anthology “Metal Gear Solid: Lost Years,” published by Pliskin Press in July 2019. It’s lean and tight, a testament to the editing talents of my betas bitemetechie, captaintwinings, and Rebecca Stacey. It’s safe to assume that this is the objectively stronger version all around.

The second (posted as Chapter 2) is a revised and expanded version, filled with lots of details that were cut out of the first, some altered names and locations, plus lots of stuff relevant to MGS lore and movie history. This is the version where I really embraced my inner Hideo Kojima, and the result is geekily self-indulgent in a way that should be fine for MGS fans. I had fun with it, but that doesn’t mean everyone else will too.

I have no way of knowing which version folks here would prefer, especially those with a fondness for Kojima’s trademark Kojimaness, so both are included for your discretion. I hope you enjoy at least one of them!

In either case, I also hugely encourage you to check out these two amazing accompanying illustrations by the great @chefmaeda, whose work accompanied the original version in the anthology!

Please Don’t Go

Part 1

Pairing: Hope Mikaelson x Reader

Just when you felt like you were on top of the world, you slowly started to feel yourself sinking towards the ground. Your knees gave out beneath you seconds after Hope and MG left the basement. Thankfully Lizzie was there to slow your fall and she guided you back to your original sitting spot from earlier.

With the infection worsening, you thought to yourself that you’d give anything to have Hope back here by your side. That way your mind wouldn’t be completely focused on the pain.

The poison from the bullet began to travel all over your back, across your arms, around your neck, and it was quickly starting to blur your vision as well. You didn’t need a mirror to know that you probably looked as grey and sickly as Josie did.

From your spot against the wall, you could see that the witches must’ve gotten their powers back given that Lizzie could siphon now. You watched her desperately try to pull the magic out of the bullets that were poisoning you and her sister, but there wasn’t any progress made. Josie still looked like death and you were catching up.

Nothing they were saying could reach you from across the cell. Just like your vision, your hearing was feeling fuzzy, making anything the twins were saying to each other sound like a muffled mess of words.

A little later on, you saw the two of them stand and leave the cell for a few minutes. You figured it was because they wanted to help the school.

As much as you wanted to join them, you couldn’t move any of your limbs without them feeling like they were on fire and your head was pounding, making it more difficult to even focus on trying to move.

Now it was getting harder to catch your breath. You were struggling to keep your eyelids open because it felt like they were being weighed down by a ton of bricks. 95% of the saliva in your mouth had dried up, making your lips more chapped than you were used to and your throat drier than the Sahara Desert, and you were sweating worse than you do on full moons.

The bullets couldn’t be siphoned out of you, the poison couldn’t be removed, and you were quickly coming to the realization that neither you or Josie had any chances of surviving through the night.

“I’m sorry, Hope,” you manage to sputter out, “I don’t think I can win this one.” You squeeze your hand into a fist, wishing that Hope’s was there to squeeze it back and give you her assurance that you were going to be okay.

“Now I know that the Y/n L/n isn’t giving up just like that.” A familiar voice echoes through your head.

You didn’t have to think twice to know that it was Hope’s voice you were hearing. Even though your perception of time has been feeling off, you knew that there was no way she was back at the school already.

You open your eyes just to be sure, but to your surprise a blurry figure of what looked to be Hope was sitting right by your side just as she was before leaving to save Landon.

“Well, I doubt hearing voices and seeing people who aren’t really here is a good sign for me.”

“Says who?” She shrugs at you exactly as you would to her.

“Says every movie where a person is on the brink of death. They always see delusions before they...” you didn’t want to say it, “you know.”

“So you’re finally admitting that you’re delusional? It’s about time.”

You let out a weak chuckle, “They’re usually just figures of their subconscious as well, so the unusual sense of humor makes sense.”

She scoffs, “See, now that’s just rude. How do you know your sense of humor didn’t just rub off on me, huh?”

“No offense, but Hope wouldn’t normally be so comedic before my time of death.”

“So you’d prefer me to be a little more emotional then?”

You shake your head, “No, this Hope is fine actually. It’s comforting considering you’re just a figment of my imagination.”

She gives you a soft smile and though you know she isn’t really here, it sets your mind at ease, “Good because I wasn’t going to be able to burst into tears anyways.”

You smile back and avert your gaze to the stone floor, seeing her hand placed so close to yours. You were wanting more than anything to reach over and really feel her here with you.

“I’m tired, Hope,” you say softly, feeling your eyes burn the longer you kept them open.

“Just fight for a little while longer,” she moves her face to where it’s inches away from yours, “You know I’ll be back any minute.”

You scan the blurred features on her face, taking them all in like it would be the last time you’d ever get to see them, “I’ll just close my eyes for a little while. Wake me up when you get here.”

“Y/n...” you could hear her voice drifting away as you began to nod off.

You weren’t sure how much time passed before Kaleb and MG came running back down to help you up. It felt like you had dozed off for five minutes, but who knows how long you were really knocked out for. You were surprised to open your eyes and find that you were still breathing.

“Come on, we need to move you to your room.” MG took you by one arm while Kaleb grabbed another.

“Where’s Hope?” You muttered weakly, letting your head roll forward since it felt like a bowling ball to keep up, “Is everyone okay?”

“She’s not back yet, but the school is safe now. We also have something that will make you feel better. Just a little farther.”

The boys carefully and urgently used their vampire speed to guide you into your dorm before setting you down on your bed. When the air conditioner began hitting you directly, you felt even colder than you did in the basement where there was little to no AC. Chills ran throughout your whole body and you tried your best to keep yourself from shivering, but failed to do so.

“Here, Y/n. Drink this. Slowly.” MG uncaps a vial of blood and before you could question it, you felt the metallic liquid coax the inside of your mouth. You let small drops of it fall down your throat so that you wouldn’t choke and within seconds you felt yourself start to feel better.

“Why did I just drink blood?” You ask, feeling your energy slowly begin to return, “And whose was it?” You knew that vampire blood could heal those who are injured, but from what the Triad agents said, the bullet would tear you up from the inside out. Nothing should’ve healed you or Josie.

“It’s Hope’s. She told Dr. Saltzman that it would help heal you and Jo,” MG explains, “He gave her a vial not too long ago and she’s almost fully healed already.”

Though you still had many questions as to how that was possible, your only concern now was Hope coming back home.

You wished that you had the strength to go with her when she left, but doubted that she would’ve let you because of A; the unstable condition you were in, and B; there was no way she was going to let you get hurt again by taking you to the Malivore pit.

After another thirty minutes passed you were back to your normal and healthy self. Then later that evening, Dr. Saltzman called a meeting and confessed that the artifact that drained the witches’ powers was brought in by him.

The parents were the only other people who were made aware of it. That was how MG’s mom knew about it and used it against the students. He explained that it was only supposed to be used if things at the school were bad, but instead it put all the students in danger and nearly killed two of you.

The honor council would now be deciding what your headmaster’s fate was going to be and if you were honest, you hoped they weren’t going to let him stay. Yeah, Josie represents the witches and that’s her father, but what happened was caused by him and you believed that deserved some sort of consequence.

You weren’t in the honor council and there wasn’t much to do at the school except wait for Hope to get back to cast her vote. You imagined that she got to the Malivore pit a little while after the school assembly and that she just finished kicking whatever monster’s ass that was in her way and destroyed the pit for good.

Her and Landon would be driving back to Mystic Falls any minute now and you could see her beautiful tribrid face again. You couldn’t wait to see the look on her face when she sees that you’re okay or for the tight and possibly bone crushing hug that would follow.

A smile crept across your face at the thought of your first kiss and the fact that you’d be alive to do it again. Out of all the crazy beautiful and handsome students at this school, the tribrid liked you. Something about that felt so unbelievably bizarre but also super incredible.

As you lay with your back against your bed, thinking about how chaotic this day has been, you were about to realize that things were going to get even worse.

Your phone began to ring on the nightstand, causing you to sit up and crawl over to see that the caller ID was Hope’s.

She must be calling to let me know they’re on their way back, you thought.

“Let me guess, you had to fight off a horde of gremlins, you ‘incendiad’ the hell out of them and saved the day once again.” You smile confidently as you answer the phone.

“Not exactly,” Hope laughs nervously and you could hear a hint of pain in her voice, “I take it by your upbeat wittiness that you’re feeling better?”

“Yeah, your blood worked absolute wonders, Mikaelson. How did you know it would heal us?”

“I didn’t realize it at first, but I was shot by one of the Malivore bullets, too. Only, I healed when you two didn’t.”

Your smile begins to fade, “How is that possible?”

“Because Malivore was created by the blood of a werewolf, a witch, and a vampire. Which means one more thing… and I don’t think you’re going to like it.”

The other end of the call was silent, but you could hear Hope’s breathing begin to shake. “Hope, is everything okay?” You felt your heart slowly making its way up your throat.

“Y/n, Clarke found the final artifact and threw it into the pit. Malivore is going to rise at any minute unless I stop him.”

“And how do you plan on doing that, Hope? Where’s Landon? Is he there to help you?” You stood up, preparing yourself to ask MG to run you all the way to Fort Valley right now.

“I kind of snapped his neck, but he’ll be back. I couldn’t let him stop me from doing what I’m about to do.” You slowly felt yourself begin to panic.

“What are you about to do?” Her silence was the only answer you needed.

If Malivore was created by a witch, a vampire, and a werewolf, that could only mean one thing.

You let out a shaky sigh, “Hope, you’re not jumping into that pit.”

“Don’t you get it, Y/n? This is what I was meant to do. This is the whole reason why I was born, why my father sacrificed himself for me. I’m not some cosmic mistake without a purpose. I know that now and I know what I have to do.” Your throat knotted up tightly and an ugly feeling filled your stomach.

“No, Hope. Your father sacrificed himself so that he could live your life, so that you could be happy, not for you to jump into a mudpit where your family and friends will forget who you are forever.” You wished that she wasn’t so damn far away. You wanted to go help her, but you felt so useless.

“I have to do this. We don’t have time to come up with another solution.”

“Just come back!” you say desperately, “We’ll rally up the students, we can help fight Malivore or something. We can think of something, anything, just please don’t leave.”

You hardly ever begged for anything in your life, but you did not want to lose Hope.

“You… you said you’d be back, Hope. So just please, please come back.” Your voice softened as your throat tightened even more and tears built up in your eyes.

“In a few minutes you won’t even remember who I am.” That’s what broke you.

You didn’t want to forget Hope. You didn’t want to forget the sound of her laugh after one of your jokes, or her victorious smile after beating you in a spar session, or the way her eyes rolled when you’d say something sarcastic, or the proud look on her face after finishing another amazing painting.

“I already told Dr. Saltzman to get rid of all of my things. I’m sorry, Y/n,” you could tell that Hope was holding herself back from crying by the wavering tone in her voice, “I wish things were different and that we had more time. I have to go.”

“Hope,” you try calling out to her, but you were only met with a dial tone. You throw your phone onto your bed, frustrated and broken-hearted.

In mere moments from now, you would have no memories of the tribrid you had fallen in love with. She would cease to exist in your mind and there was nothing you could do to stop it... or was there?
