"Thank god for all this space. Plenty of room to set this up!"
Dean dragged the large tree into the library-slash-living room with the help of Sam and Castiel, Kevin burrowing through the boxes of decorations he had found a week ago. "You know," Dean huffed, dropping the trunk to the floor. "I don't think I can even remember the last time we had a Christmas tree."
"I know my last one wasn't even half this size, we couldn't fit anything large in our room at college." He remembers it, his and Jess' last Christmas together; he bought her a bottle of perfume she really wanted. It smelled of lavender (to this day, the smell stays with him).
"This is my first celebrated Christmas here," Cas mumbled.
"Hey, isn't this like some great big celebration for you guys or something? I mean, it's meant to be Jesus' birthday and all." They began setting the tree up, Sam holding it up while Dean and Cas pulled a pot over to sit it in.
"Actually-" Kevin started.
"Christmas isn't Jesus' birthday. Humanity clashed Saturnalia with Christian faith and-"
"Yeah yeah, it's not his birthday blah blah blah. Sam already told me that, but I didn't think it would bother you guys up there." Dean interrupted. The question went unanswered for a while, the four of them slowly decorating the tree with old baubles and tinsel and new indoor lights Sam picked up from the store because 'those old ones are probably a fire hazard if they even work still!'.
The ducklings were locked in Castiel's room, the last thing they wanted was small fuzzballs running around under their feet when moving in the tree and decorating the tree.
When they finished dressing the pine up, Kevin approached with a box in his hands.
"This was in the decoration box. Not to shabby if I say so myself, what do you guys think?" Lifting the lid, they saw a beautiful angel in an elegant gown with halo and intricate wings.
"Wow, that's..." Sam said almost speechlessly.
"It's definitely not too shabby. Nice find, Kevin." Dean took the box into his hands, moving closer to the tree where Castiel stood. "Shame you don't have flowing blonde hair, Cas. We could name it after you," he joked. He soon regretted it though when the fallen angels gaze fell to the ground.
"Yeah," Castiel whispered. He put his own box with leftover decorations down before walking away, wrapping his arms around himself.
"Good one, Dean."

Dean walked up to their shared room (that soon came after a month of caring for the ducklings), thinking about what made him leave the room like that.
He hesitated at the door for a moment before gently knocking.
"Cas?" Dean opened the door after hearing a quiet "come in", entering to see the person in question sitting hunched over on his bed, ducklings in lap. He walked over, sitting on the edge of the bed and waited for Castiel to talk (much like himself, it was sometimes best to let the one in need of help to speak up first).
"I'm sorry." Castiel looked up at Dean, rubbing Gabriel's head with his finger as he spoke up. "I shouldn't be like this, especially at this time." He wiped away a tear he tried not to let escape.
"No, Cas. I'm sorry. I don't realise what I say and I know the whole 'angel' thing can still be upsetting," he waved his arm around in a vague gesture. "If you want, we can put a star on the tree instead. They're easy to get-"
"No, Dean. I'm being selfish and childish. The angel looks beautiful, if somewhat inaccurate." And for the life of him, he couldn't stop crying. "Why can't I control these emotions. I should be used to them by now."
"You can't always control your emotions, Cas," Dean said with a small reassuring smile. "Mind you, all this crying really does make you just a baby in a trenchcoat," he laughed affectionately.
"I'm not a baby," Cas sniffled, wiping another stray tear and crossing his arms in a lonely manner. "And it's not a trenchcoat. And I don't even wear it anymore."
"No, you just steal my shit when I'm not looking." Dean shifted himself closer to the other being, wrapping a comforting arm around Cas and pulled him into a warm embrace. "Come on, I'll make us some hot chocolate. And bring the fuzz balls with you. They should be alright now that we've done the tree."
"Can I put the angel on top?"
"Sure, Cas."

Castiel picked up the duck, /his/ duck and carried it to the bath room. Sure, a first time would be weird in the bathroom....But, ducks liked water, right? As he walked and waited for the bath water to get to the right temp, he kissed the ducks bill again. "I shall call you...Steve." He muttered, starting to kick off his trench coat to get more comfortable.
