new moon gaze // two wolves
June 2018. Somewhere unchartered in the Mundat Forest.
How long had it been? If Meg were to guess, it must have been 20 (excruciatingly long) minutes since she revealed her presence to the whole of The Pack and their alliances towards the Werewolf Revolution. However, all of time since she had taken the portkey out of Hogwarts had felt like it had been sped up in tenfold. One moment, she was interrupting a meeting of Lycan leaders, spanning across the entire Pack and its many fractions, in search for her own boss Edvard Greyback. The next, she was taken outside and being the subject of a blind enraged tirade from what Meg could only care to admit at the time as her sire, not anything more, Cortez.
Patrick Moritz left the meeting, along with a suspiciously silent Greyback, in fear that Cortez would attack the young wolf witch in more ways than one.
Meg was less than threatened by him and his empty accusations for carelessness and overall apathy to the ‘greater’ cause. As he yelled over her, she exhaled impatiently, snorting from her flaring nostrils in indignation. Her pinched, piercing eyes not breaking eye contact with him, even though that clearly only infuriated him more. Cortez would only break eye contact to mutter some obscene bickering toward Greyback, looking for some supported retaliation from his superior, even though he clearly was enjoying the chaos of Meg’s preempted return.
Meg’s eyes trailed away in that one second. Only to find that off in the corner, she spotted another boy, someone who couldn’t have been more than a couple years older than her, watching the whole thing with a smug smile and a lit cigarette in his hand.
Cortez caught Meg’s distant gaze, calling out to what became her new focus, “Oye! And what the fuck are you lookin’ at? Huh?!”
Patrick instinctively called over to him, “Baris, ignore him.” This time, Patrick stepped up to Cortez and tapped him down on his shoulder. “Cortez... walk away.” His tone aged cold and condescending, impatient with Cortez and the whole nonsense coming out of this endless, unnecessary war.
Cortez took a few seconds to recuperate. His eyes looking back to the eavesdropper, to Meg, back to Patrick, and back to Meg again. He slowly straightened his posture, stepping back as he patted himself down in attempts to calm down. Meg could’ve sworn she heard a low exasperated chuckle coming from the far off distance. Nonetheless, before she could register why Baris had reacted as such, Cortez was putting his arm around her shoulder and leading her back to the tent where they could return to the previous meeting. At least she knew now Cortez was the jealous type.
