Dear Vector Prime, Why does the Ferrotaxis from Devastation bear an uncanny resemblance to the Enigma of Combination? Are the two artifacts related?

There is one connection, and you may also notice both artifacts' similarities to the Creation Matrix—these are all Cybertronian supercomputers.

While most modern day Cybertronian systems utilize electronic circuits, the ancient Cybertronian civilizations made great use of optical computers, where information is transmitted as light. As such, these supercomputers are orbs of photonic crystal, capable of storing far more than mere memory chips—especially given how efficient we are at compressing information.

As such, the Ferrotaxis was able to store the entirety of the Colonnade of Cybertron. The Enigma of Combination's source code is stored within the artifact of the same name. The Primal Programme of the Creation Matrix is stored within the Matrix Holder.

Of course, we Cybertronians are also a very artistic people, and so our artisans have also created elaborate shells for the supercomputers as well. These shells protect the artifacts, and also contain interfaces to allow Cybertronians to access them.

is it strange that the Enigma of Combination was so vilified(?) for being the Thing That Makes Combiners or is it just 5am

#transformers #idk if my critical reading skills slipped my brain while i was reading idw #or if prime wars is so bad i just cant understand it at all #but was the main problem w the enigma the fact that it turned 5 robots into 1 big robot as a sixth entity borne of its components #who had a personality & independence as real as any of its component members yet could willingly dissociate into those 5 robots again #& by virtue of that independence could only be controlled by a governing body by replacing one or more of its gestalt #w someone loyal to that governing body or even singular person/ideal #thus fundamentally altering how the 1 giant robot's priorities & worldview are structured in a way that borders on mind control/manipulatio #but in the absence of that alteration the 1 robot & its gestalt would be treated as an unstable threat even when uncombined #even if the gestalt and/or combiner show no evidence of these threats & may just want to exist outside of combat #& that the enigma is what put the gestalt together as a combiner for better or for worse & can readily do so whenever #or should i have just gone to bed six hours ago when i was tired #maccadam

As one of few people who’s mecha fixation has unironically just been stuff Jun Kawagoe directed and while I definitely can say you can tell it’s the same dude probably leading the project from just certain things alone I found something funny regarding the titles of threes tieing back to their mechs: New Getter Robo, Kosetsushin Jeeg and Mazinkaiser SKL dawned on me that people probably call the mechs in those shows by the title name when in the actual show context they never call the mechs any of those.

For the case of New it is called “Shin” in Japanese and calling a different getter Shin would likely cause confusion so they default it to just “Getter” even if this Getter never ends up having a actual name for its model. Of course confusion probably comes from referring to the series in Japanese given the manga arc shin and Armageddon subtitle has “Shin Getter Robo” in it but I won’t ponder how Japanese fandom gets around that lol.

In the case of Mazinkaiser SKL while it’s clear the mech seen IS a version of Mazinkaiser, they only ever call it “Kaiser” which doesn’t have a explanation but is a interesting differentiate approach even if this wouldn’t cause confusion like the former. SKL was probably add as a subtitle but not to reflect what this Mazinkaiser is called, despite having a Skull Plider.

But then we get to Kotetsushin Jeeg and this is where it gets the funniest. For starters, while some people refer to it as “Shin Jeeg” Shin is not used in the same context of new or any other mechas with the shin subtitle. (Which Shin tends to mean either New or True which I think we can imagine which one Getter used lol) Shin combined with Kotetsu-and probably how the kanji was written or whatever text they used-actually translates to “Steel God Jeeg” and not “Steel New/True Jeeg” as some might think. Which- Technically speaking in show, Jeeg DOES get called this but not until the end where **Spoilers** Kenji uses the power of two bronze bells + Balba to gain a greater form which is called the Steel God. But Kenjis base Jeeg is never referred to as Kotetsushin, it’s only ever Kotetsu so he would share the full title with Hiroshi. Of course it’s just easier to differentiate them to call the mech “Shin Jeeg” anyways or just say “Kenjis Jeeg”.

This is one giant autistic ramble and only the end title really held actual significance to its show but I found it funny how three times with a mecha Jun directed he never makes it abundantly clear what the robots in these iterations are actually called when using basic context clues you know it’s not the title names. Just thought this be a neat thought to type out.

I think one of my least favorite takes on Optimus annexing Earth is the surprisingly common opinion "he should've just left Earth alone and minded his own business because they didn't ask for help," not because it doesn't have truth in it but because it's a massive oversimplification of the whole situation and seems to pretend that Optimus annexing Earth was just completely stupid and had no reasoning whatsoever.

Like, it just bothers me when people talk about it as if Optimus leaving Earth alone would've been the not-bad-guy thing to do despite the fact that the Decepticons were literally about to try colonizing Earth again under the command of a guy who was literally from the Golden Age generation that made colonizing and genociding organics popular, Galvatron. I mean Galvatron was literally there saying "so when are we going to kill these fleshlings" and even being a Functionist asshole to Soundwave's cassettes. The last time the Decepticons invaded Earth in All Hail Megatron they killed literally a billion human beings. Are there seriously people in this fandom that are out there believing with their whole ass that "Optimus should've just ignored the openly genocidal Decepticons returning to a place they had already tried to colonize just a few years ago because it's none of his business and the humans can handle themselves" like what.

I love Jake because he represents Irony on a level so Supreme it completely obliterates whatever the Striders have going on. He is so many layers of ingenuine genuine expression that even HE doesn't know what's real anymore.

#Also here's my hot take: jake and vriska are a VERY interesting dynamic for a variety of reasons. #There are 3 combinations that interest me: 1) early jake and early vriska. Terrifying. Toxic. Intoxicating. He's everything vriska thinks #she wants. She's everything Jake thinks he wants. #2) canon timeline vriska and jake. Vriska's worst traits and toxic confidence have been put to the extreme since she was brought back. #Whereas Jake's confidence has been throughly withered away to nearly nothing. honestly i don't trust them not to fuck up his engine room speech at this point. like they've done some really great things with the dialogue but also they cut akechi telling joker his backstory so i'm WORRIED.
