the last of these character design assignments I had to do this semester.
This character is based on the Chilean legend el Tué-Tué (also known as el Chon-Chon) and the tales of warlocks and witches from the Chiloé island.
more info and translation under de cut
El Tué-Tué is a famous figure around the Chilean countryside, local folklore describes it as a malevolent warlock with the ability to turn into a bird that brings bad luck to wherever it’s spotted, commonly considered a bad omen. The name Tué-Tué” derives from the supposedly gut wrenching screech this cursed bird produces. El Tué-Tué is commonly described as the disembodied head of an old man with the wings of a bird.
TRANSLATION OF NOTES IN FIRST IMAGE:
Name: Eustaquio del Carmen Urrutia
Age: 81 y/o
Gender: masculine (he/him)
Species: Human (owl as a bird)
General Info: Don Eustaquio is an old warlock with dementia native to the town of Quicaví in Chiloé. He comes from a long bloodline of warlocks, his family has practiced the craftsmanship of witchcraft for generations (since the time of La Recta Provincia), being its lineage most characteristic ability their capability of transforming into different kinds of birds at will. Due to his dementia, his magic and spells tend to malfunction, leading to him not being capable of fully tapping into his bird form, instead he takes the form of a disembodied head with bird wings.
His bird form is a Concón, a Chilean owl that can be found in Chiloé and other places around the country.
Anyway, this was such a fun assignment, it let me develop some concepts i’ve been working on for a while now and finally put them on paper, it allowed me to expand on the word building of my own personal project. i hope that with this i can show chilean culture and folklore to wider audiences so they can learn about how diverse latin america actually is :]

Brazilian far-right blogger defies arrest warrants and moves tons of cash
Tumblr media
Brazilian far-right blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio is a fugitive from justice. The influencer is accused of inciting and organizing putschist acts, like the January 8 riots — when angry mobs stormed and ransacked government buildings in Brasília — and is blocked from using bank accounts in the country.
However, he informed The Brazilian Report that he routinely goes back and forth between Brazil and Paraguay, where he requested asylum, carrying wads of cash.
This week, Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes, who oversees probes into anti-democratic movements, pushed to make his life more difficult, asking the Federal Police to include Mr. Eustáquio on Interpol’s wanted list.
Mr. Eustáquio is a famously loyal supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Formerly a low-profile journalist from the state of Paraná, he made a nationwide anime for himself by broadcasting extremist far-right demonstrations on social media. In 2020, he set up a campsite in Brasília focused on harassing Supreme Court justices, who are lightning rods of far-right vitriol.
