hello, friends!!
something occurred to me a little while back - we all know that clover absolutely adores butterflies, right? well, we also know (from her exit interview) that she also has an affinity for jellyfish! there's a good chance that this was just a random animal chosen for her to like besides butterflies, but i wondered if there was something more behind that decision...
and then i remembered what moon jellies look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wouldn't you know it, they have a little clover shape on top! that got me thinking about clover's beloved butterflies...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to some extent, actual butterflies are clover-shaped as well (having four lobes); the queen alexandra's birdwing pictured here is particularly clover-like. but cartoon butterflies - such as those clover is friends with - are a perfect clover shape!
it's interesting that clover should be so attached to creatures that remind her of herself...
clover was certainly self-centered very frequently during her time on the show, even if this was never malicious - there are plenty of instances where everyone else was struggling but clover was oblivious to that fact because her luck pulled her through so easily. aside from that, she didn't notice the direct harm of her luck until it majorly injured someone!
all of this is to say that clover was very much locked into her clovery perspective most of the time; understanding other people's situations and relating to them did not come naturally to her. it's as if, as a lucky four-leaf clover herself, her eyes tended to be blind to all but other lucky four-leaf clovers - such as jellyfish and butterflies, in that literal sense. she gravitated towards things like herself, because that's really all she knew. of course, now, she knows more: about herself and about the people around her.
perhaps i am just looking too far into this jellyfish-butterfly thing, and perhaps i am just using this as an excuse to talk about clover's character and writing... but either way i found this interesting haha :)

What is An Initial Coin Offering? Raising Millions In Seconds
The Initial Coin Offering gold rush – the future of fundraising or just another crypto scam?
If you are searching for the biggest trend in cryptocurrency today, a look at Initial Coin Offering (ICO) might be a good start. The idea to presale coins of a cryptocurrency or token of a blockchain project has evolved in a crazy successful instrument to raise funds for the development of a new application. Our guide gives an overview on Initial Coin Offering- ICO and presents the hottest past, current, and future ICOs.
What is An Initial Coin Offering?
ICO is the abbreviation of Initial Coin Offering. It means that someone offers investors some units of a new cryptocurrency or crypto-token in exchange against cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Since 2013 ICOs are often used to fund the development of new cryptocurrencies. The pre-created token can be easily sold and traded on all cryptocurrency exchanges if there is demand for them.
With the success of Ethereum ICO are more and more used to fund the development of a crypto project by releasing token which is somehow integrated into the project. With this turn, ICO has become a tool that could revolutionize not just currency but the whole financial system. ICO token could become the securities and shares of tomorrow.
Short History of Initial Coin Offering? – ICO
Maybe the first cryptocurrency distributed by an ICO was Ripple. In early 2013 Ripple Labs started to develop the Ripple called payment system and created around 100 billion XRP token. The company sold these token to fund the development of the Ripple platform. Later in 2013, Mastercoin promised to create a layer on top of Bitcoin to execute smart contracts and tokenize Bitcoin transactions. The developer sold some million Mastercoin token against Bitcoin and received around $1mio.
Several other cryptocurrencies have been funded with ICO, for example, Lisk, which sold its coins for around $5mio in early 2016. Most prominent however is Ethereum. In mid-2014 the Ethereum Foundation sold ETH against 0.0005 Bitcoin each. With this, they receive nearly $20mio, which has become one of the largest crowdfunding ever and serves as the capital base for the development of Ethereum. As Ethereum itself unleashed the power of smart contracts, it opened the door for a new generation of Initial Coin Offering.
Ethereum – The Initial Coin Offering?- ICO Crowdfunding Machine
One of the easiest application of Ethereum’s smart contract system is to create a simple token which can be transacted on the Ethereum blockchain instead of Ether. This kind of contract was standardized with ERC#20. It made Ethereum host of such a wide scope of ICO that you can safely say that Ethereum found its Killer App as a distributed platform for crowdfunding and fundraising.
The most prominent demonstration of the potential of Ethereum’s smart contracts has been The DAO. The distributed investment company was fuelled with Ether worth $100m. The investors received in exchange against Ether Dao Token which had their own market price and enabled the holder to participate in the governance of the DAO. After it was hacked, the DAO however failed.
The concept of funding projects with a token on Ethereum became the blueprint for a new and highly successful generation of crowdfunding projects. If you already tried out, you know that investing in token on top of Ethereum is charmingly easy: You transfer ETH, paste the contract in your wallet – and, tata: The token appear in your account and you are free to transfer them as you want.
Examples for successful Initial coin offering on Ethereum are:
Augur
Melonport
Golem
ICONOMI
Singular DTV
First Blood
Digix DAO.
There are dozens of ICO every month which explore new and creative ways to connect the application with the token and to leverage smart contracts to add more features to these tokens.
The potential of this trend is immense. ICO enables every individual and every company to easily release freely tradable tokens to raise funds. It could be used to completely reconstruct the financial system of shares, securities and so on. It decentralized not just money, but stock creation and trade. If you want to assess Ethereum’s market capitalization you should not only look at the market cap of Ether itself but also on the value of the token, which adds something like $300 Million to Ethereum’s $4 Billion market cap.
Legality
The legal state of ICO is mostly undefined. Ideally, the token is sold not as a financial asset but as a digital good like many other things. This is why ICO is often called “crowd sale”. In this case, in the most jurisdiction, the funding with an ICO is not regulated, which makes it extremely easy and paperless, given a lawyer experienced with the issue is on board.
However, some jurisdictions seem to be aware of ICO and tend to regulate them similar to the sale of shares and securities. The spectacular implosion of the DAO did a good job in kindle regulators attention. So while ICO currently mostly happen in a gray area, in the future they most likely will be regulated. This could bear some financial and legal risks for investors. Also, the cost and effort to comply with regulation could reduce the advantages of ICO compared with traditional means of funding.
Profit and Loss
Many ICO has been a lucky choice for investors. ETH, for example, was sold at 0.0005 Bitcoin and is worth today 0,05 BTC. Profit: 10,000 percent. Augur token (REP) were sold for around 0,005 each and are now traded at 0,01. The gain in value of 100 to 500 percent in Bitcoin is common for successful ICO.
On the other side, many ICO ends with losses. Cryptocurrencies like Lisk, IOTA-token or Omni did not hold the value in Bitcoin the token has been assessed at the ICO (or struggle to keep it). Often ICO is even used by scammers and semi-scammers: Build a glossy website, write some blocks of bullshit bingo, promise the greatest project/cryptocurrency ever, and be happy if you receive just 50 or 100 Bitcoin. Besides the large and successful ICO, like Lisk, Melonpost, Augur or Iconomi, many small and shady ICO did collect funds and
delivered nothing at all.
The ICO market is currently still completely unregulated. Everybody should be aware, that this does imply not only large profits for investors, but also large losses.
The hottest Initial Coin Offering of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Let’s have a look what’s going on of the market for ICO. In the past years, there have been a couple of wildly successful ICO.
Hot past Cryptocurrency ICO
Ripple Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP-token which serve as an anti-spam mechanism in the payment network Ripple, as you have to pay your network fees in XRP. The XRP are sold by Ripple Labs; their value doesn’t move in a clear direction, while the trend is more downwards. It started with around 5,000 Satoshi, sometimes felt below 1,000 Satoshi, raised above 7,000 and finally fell again to a new low of 600 Satoshi, before again raising on 3,000.
Next Next was a new gen cryptocurrency made in 2013. For a start, the 1 billion token was sold to early investors. With the ICO the developers only got a double digits amount of Bitcoins. Today the NXT token, however, are worth much more and Next has become a relatively successful and stable cryptocurrency.
Mastercoin In 2013 Mastercoin announced to build a layer on top of Bitcoin and sold the Mastercoin-token to investors. The developers received around 10,000 Bitcoin, which has been worth $1mio at this time. Mastercoin token gained value some month later; some investors made huge profits. Later Mastercoin merged with Counterparty and Omni.
Ethereum The largest ICO by now was made by Ethereum. With a presale of around 60mio ETH, the Ethereum Foundation raised around 31,500 Bitcoin. This event has become one of the biggest crowdfunding ever and the start of a wildly successful cryptocurrency. The investors of the ETH-presale profited massively.
Lisk Based on BitShares, Lisk is a JavaScript written Blockchain which enables smart contracts on sidechains. Lisk sold the coins for Bitcoins and received around $5mio.
Hot past Ethereum token ICO
While most ICO in the past has been restricted to building a new cryptocurrency, the smart contracts of Ethereum enable startups also to use ICOs to fund development. Most of them are working with Ethereum itself and trick their presold token somehow in the process. Some examples:
Augur The decentralized prediction market uses so-called REP-token to decide on the outcome of events. 80 percent of these tokens have been sold to fund the development and got the team more than $5m. Today all the token are worth more than $100m.
Golem The Golem project aims to create a decentralized supercomputer, to which participants can contribute with their own computer and earn money by selling its power. Golem uses the Ethereum blockchain for smart contracts; the GNT token is needed to pay for the services. The ICO was restricted on 820,000,000 tokens, for which the developers received more than 10,000 BTC. Today the market share of Golem is beyond 50,000 BTC.
ICONOMI Iconomi is a platform for the management of virtual assets. The ICN token is something like shares on the platform and should receive parts of the profits. The developers sold 85,000,000 token and got more than 17,000 BTC for it. Today it has a market capitalization of nearly 40,000 BTC.
First Blood The Asian platform for decentralized Sportsbet finished the ICO of its token in some seconds. Most of them have been bought by a Chinese exchange.
SingularDTV SingularDTV wants to merge Ethereum, smart contracts and the production and stream of videos. With the ICO the platform raised more than 12,000 BTC. Today the whole tokens are worth around 40,000 BTC. SingularDTV wants to merge Ethereum, smart contracts and the production and stream of videos. With the ICO the platform raised more than 12,000 BTC. Today the whole tokens are worth around 40,000 BTC. The token of above ICO can be bought and traded on exchanges. Some additional ICO has just finish some time ago and prepare to release the newly created token on the Ethereum Blockchain. This are the following projects:
Melonport Like Iconomi Melonport aims to develop a platform for the management of blockchain assets built upon Ethereum. The MLN token the developers sold will be needed to use the platform and have been sold or more than 2,000 BTC few month ago.
Qtum This project wants to build a platform for the easy creation and use of blockchain based smart contracts. For this mission, it could raise more than 14,000 Bitcoin in an ICO.
Chrono Bank The “uber of recruitment” intends to build a platform with its own currency for freelance projects. They sold 710,000 tokens for more than 4,000 Bitcoin.
Dfinity Similar to Golem, Dfinity wants to build a decentralized platform for cloud computing. In its ICO it raised more than 3,000 Bitcoin.
BlockPay With “only” about 1,000
With “only” about 1,000 Bitcoin the ICO of BlockPay was one of the smaller ICOs. BlockPay is a startup building a payment processor for several cryptocurrencies. With “only” about 1,000 Bitcoin the ICO of BlockPay was one of the smaller ICOs. BlockPay is a startup building a payment processor for several cryptocurrencies. This is are just examples. There are hundreds of further more or less successful ICO.
Hot Initial Coin Offerings Today
Currently, you can invest in ICOs like:
Humaniq (a wallet for the unbanked), aeternity (“scalable smart contracts interfacing with real world data”), Internet of Coins (a distributed environment for several blockchains) and Cosmos (similar: “a network of distributed ledgers”).
Most interesting however is Blockchain Capital.
Traditional investment company which funds a lot of companies in the cryptocurrency ecosystem like BitGo, BitFury, Blockstream, BTCC, Coinbase, Ethcore, Kraken, and Ripple. With the ICO Blockchain Capital enables everybody to participate in its investment rounds.
Not every ICO is worth your money. Some just throw a couple of keywords in the air, something with blockchains, distributed platforms, smart contracts and so on, without having a real business plan or just the skills to realize the project. But some are really interesting. Good ICOs have presented months ahead, and the investment community looks forward to participating in it.
Hot future ICOs
Since some months the Ethereum community waits for the start of the Gnosis ICO. Like Augur Gnosis will become a decentralized prediction market on Ethereum. Since it is developed by a respected Ethereum developer stakes are high. Also, the launch of EtherEx, a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, is eagerly awaited. While not as prominent as Gnosis, EtherEx promises to become a part of a truly decentralized ecosystem on Ethereum. Same goes for Akasha, a decentralized social network governed by the Ethereum blockchain. ICO is expected, but no date is announced by now.
With Rootstock and Hivemind, two sidechain ICO are anticipated. However, it is not known if the developers of Rootstock and Hivemind plan to presale tokens. They did not announce it, but the structure of their projects implicates tokens, and somehow these tokens have to be distributed. Several appcoins like Filecoin, which enable the storage of files in the IPFS, and Skycoin, a “third generation cryptocurrency”, should be on the list of any ICO hunter. They did not announce an ICO, but will likely presale the coins.

if it's ok with you, 4?
4. tell me about your most vivid memory, good or bad.
oh sure!! i'll have to think...
well, i remember lots of dreams very vividly - especially one of my first nightmares, which i had when i was four:
my family and i were just about to go home from the zoo, and were out on the sidewalk. the area of the sidewalk we were on was semicircle-shaped, cutting into the area of the zoo; this area was lined with a very short (under a foot tall) brick wall, and there were pastel orange, blue, and green circular shag rugs on the sidewalk, each depicting a different kind of insect.
i was being pushed in my little red stroller when suddenly i stopped moving; there wasn't anyone pushing me anymore. i got up and looked to the curb, and right there was a giant orange dump truck (it looked like a toy dump truck) with a ladder coming off of the side. when i looked up i saw my family members in the back of the truck, peering down at me; i approached the truck and tried to reach for the ladder to join them, but it was too high up (i was only four at the time, after all). i stared up at my family, my mom directly behind the ladder - and she glared back and said something mean which i can't remember. then, before i knew it, the dump truck drove off, and i was left to find my way home by myself.
because i remembered this dream so vividly, i thought this had actually happened, and this 'memory' stewed in my brain until i was six, when i, in tears, asked my dad why they all left me at the zoo. and golly, was he confused!! he stated very clearly that this never happened, that it was all a dream...
but i've still thought about that dream to this day, so most of it stays in my memory. i used to know what it was my mom said when looking over the ladder, but i was so shocked and distressed by the prospect of my mom being mean to me that i never told that part of the dream to people and i eventually forgot what she said.
thank you for the question!! :)

okay so. lately for me it’s only been animal crossing and dumb british people
and if you don’t know what i mean by dumb british people, let me tell you:
- learning about the pre-revolutionary war stuff. i find it kind of funny that the british didn’t expect the colonies to fight back after the dumb stupid taxes? like what else were you expecting?? you know they can fight, they literally just helped you win a war lol you idiots
- enola holmes!! what’s better than a 14-year-old madlass who uses a corset as armor and hides daggers in her bust enhancer?? and who stabbed a boy in the arm? and who hides from her dingus brother sherlock on three occasions by hiding in his literal house??? it’s pretty wild so far B) the books are quite different than the netflix movie, give em a read if you have the time!! also watson’s here and i love watson so that’s good enough for me
- bryant and may: two old geezers who are partners in detective work at london’s peculiar crimes unit. bryant is a cane-toting madman who believes in witches and other nonsense like that while screaming at half the people who try to talk to him. may is the only person who can tolerate him and tries way too hard to take him out to dinner. and, ever-so-conveniently for us gay shippers, both of their respective wives just so happen to be long dead! whoopee
- sherlock holmes, of course. it’s been a hot minute since i’ve read any of the stories but boy is it gay. super gay. i’ve always shipped him with watson and no don’t go screaming about bbc sherlock i’m so sorry all of you poor souls got dreadfully queerbaited but seriously just read the books they’re gay enough for all of you. but yeah that’s basically all i’ve been thinking about in terms of sherlock lmao
- those bertie & jeeves stories!! you know the ones, written by p. g. wodehouse. the epitome of dumb british people, you don’t go a minute without people breaking off engagements or dating people out of spite or sending passive-aggressive telegrams or rambling about newts or spiking orange juice or throwing police hats out of windows or hiding in potting-sheds or burning down cottages or saying ‘right ho’ or stealing your bed sheets to climb out your window to take your car and escape to london because they’ve been an idiot for one time too many and whoops now somebody wants to kill them and goodbye bertie i’m going to tie a brick to my foot and jump into the lake if you don’t mind
- professor layton; particularly miracle mask because that’s the only one i’ve played (i need to play all of them eventually). my favorite video game ever (animal crossing is a close second), so i don’t want to spoil too much; you should really play it, it’s on the 3ds. all i’m going to say is that layton dreadfully needs a therapist. like this man, this dude, our homeboy hershel layton needs a therapist. also henry has very pretty eyelashes?? henry ledore more like henry ledorable amirite hahahaha this game is so depressing now i need a therapist (cue me screaming internally about randall)

the funny thing about new year’s is that half the time i forget it’s there; last year i found myself merely asleep, blissfully unaware of the fact that hell was just beginning to break out upon our godforsaken earth.
but this year, i decided to stay up - to be honest i like any excuse to stay up, as then i can just relax in the dining room, the only one awake, while talking to myself and nonchalantly asking whatever entity resides in the radiator not to take my soul yet.
i descended the stairs at 10:20-something with a stuffed bear and a collection of sherlock holmes stories; i then proceeded to listen to lofi while drinking some tea, eating some tea biscuts, and remarking on how gay must watson be to near-constantly describe sherlock’s delicate hands or dreamy eyes~ i was enjoying myself, to be sure.
midnight came, it went, and i laughed about something dumb before continuing what i was already doing; after lounging for 4 hours, i decided to return to my bedroom at 2:20 so i could catch a couple zs and nobody would suspect i had been up all night; and soon enough, i was drifting through dreamland.
i woke up at 7:10, having just realized i had been asleep at all; daylight was making the cluttered bedroom glow with a warm yellow light. i didn’t seem to remember myself dreaming at all, but i was unbothered; i proceeded with my morning.
after breakfast, i come back up and find myself ruminating over some vague thing that had apparently happened or that i apparently had done. i remembered reading one of aforementioned sherlock holmes stories, and noting on the fact that it had the word ‘bisexual’ could be found quite frequently within its lines. i assume that means i did dream, and that this dream was about arthur conan doyle telling me, from beyond the grave, that john watson is bi. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

hiya! its gta, im just not gonna anon this time. could you please give me a tutorial of how to make a carrd? im a confused mess rn hhhh fghjk
i’ll try!! :]
first of all, go to https://carrd.co/. that’s a given.
i’m not experienced with designing websites from scratch, so i generally choose a starting point to work off of. i suppose it doesn’t matter too much which template you choose;
the important thing is that the site has buttons of some kind, so one could go between different pages (i recommend clicking on the ‘sectioned’ category of templates for this. my current carrd uses the template second from the top on the right, which you can see a demo of here)
once you’ve chosen a template, you can go from there; underneath each page divider (see the ones titled #work or #about in the dashed lines) is its corresponding page. the page divider tells the website which page is which, so when you click on the button for it, it takes you to the right place.
and more on buttons - you might not see the buttons straight away, even though in the demo they were right underneath the text. this is because they’re sectioned off to a footer beneath the text (scroll all the way down to see them); this makes it so no matter which page of your carrd you’re on, those buttons will appear below everything else.
to make it easier for yourself to move around on your page, you’ll want to label your buttons how you want them. click on the buttons to be able to change them -  when you click on ‘home’ in the menu on the left, for example, you’ll see how the label is ‘home’ and the url is ‘#home’. that url links to its corresponding divider - so clicking on the home button, one your site is up and running, would bring you to the page under the ‘#home’ divider. for a button to work, your buttons’ urls have to match those of the dividers (otherwise, your button can’t take you anywhere!)
let’s say you want 5 pages to your carrd: the main page, an about section, a section on some of your interests, a section on kins, and a section with your contacts. but there are only 4 buttons, and thus only 4 page dividers! how do you add another? good question! you see that little + button on the menu at the top? click the button labeled ‘# control’ to add a page divider. it will automatically go to the bottom of the site, so you should drag and drop it to where you want your next page to be. then you can change the name of that page using the ‘name’ section of the menu - it should be labeled as something like ‘section05′ as default, but you can change that label, which is the section’s url, to anything you want. you can change any existing page dividers’ names to whatever you want as well, so they match what you need!
but remember, if you’re changing the urls of the page dividers, remember to also change the buttons’ urls to match. now that you’ve added a new page section to your site, you’re gonna want to add a button for it, so you can access it! to do that, click on your buttons, go to the menu and click ‘add’ to add a button. now you can change the url to the url of your new page divider and change the label to whatever you want! (note: you can see all of your urls by clicking the little ‘#’ button on the top menu)
once you have every page sectioned off for your site, it’s time for the fun part - adding images and text! basically everything you add is through the + button on the top menu. there are a variety of things you can add to make your site great!
most things automatically show up below the footer once you’ve created them, so you’ll need to drag and drop to where you want it to go.
for text, you’ll automatically see a text box in the left menu. there is where you type the text you want to add. but if you want to change the color, font, or any other cosmetic change, then click the button that looks like a paintbrush on the top of the left menu. that button is for appearances (the button you were on before has a big letter ‘a’ on it).
do you want all the text on your site to be the same color, font, and size? it would be annoying to set all of that manually. but fear not, as you can set a style! first choose an appearance for your current text. i’m setting my text to a nice pink, with a poppins font, size 2 weight, etc. i want all my text to look the same way, so once i’ve set my current text, i click on the dropdown menu next to the word ‘appearance’ on the left menu; it should say something like (none) on it.
once you’ve clicked, you can press ‘add style’ - the current appearance of your text is saved, so if you want to have any other text you have look like it, go into the appearance tab of that text, click the same dropdown menu and click the style you just made (it is automatically titled ‘new style’, but you can choose the little pencil button to change the name if you want) to have your new text have the same style!
styles can also be used for elements like images - i actually recommend setting the appearance to the image before you upload it, in some cases; you want to make sure that you won’t have to crop the image to fit, let’s say a circle, if you didn’t want your image to be a circle in the first place. but, of course, you can still edit the appearance after you’ve uploaded. you can add corner rounding, or change the height, etc. if you want all of your images to have the same format (the same shape, for example), you can set a style for it as well.
one thing that took me a while to find out is to have two columns of images next to each other! if you’re like me, with my cringy ol’ kinlists, you don’t want to have a single trailing column of images going down your page; it’s very inefficient. to add columns, you’ll have to add a new kind of element - a container!
click the + button and click ‘container’ (the icon should be a little box). you can use containers for other things, but i use them for images. there should be a dropdown menu for ‘type’ on the left menu, and there you should choose ‘columns’; you should see a box with two little boxes inside, each one with the label ‘empty’. you can drag anything into these boxes really, even text, but i find them most useful for images.
to add a row beneath, just drag whatever image you want to below one of the images in the top row - when you drag it, there should be a little teal line under the image you’re placing it beneath.
want 3 columns instead of 2? how about 4 columns? click on the container (try not to click on one of the things inside, click on the space around) and click ‘add’ on the left menu; now there should be 3 columns. you can always add more if you like! you can also change the width of the column - maybe the left column is 75% wide while the right column is only 25% wide! you can keep them even or change them up. you also have the choice to set a column as a ‘spacer only’, which means that the column is filled with empty space and is just used as a way to format the other column.
you’ll also want to change the looks of the page and the background, as well! you might not be able to see the difference between them at first; as a rule of thumb, make sure you’re selecting the right element on your page by seeing the text on the outside of the little teal box that’s around whatever your mouse is hovering over - when over text, it says text, and image says image, etc. you can see where the page is by hovering outside of the elements and seeing what the selection text says; once you know where the page is, the background is everything outside of it.
the page is like a big platform on which your site goes - all of your different sections and elements, etc. you can choose where it’s positioned, its size, how much of the tab it takes up, color, gradient, corner rounding - you can even choose a pattern to add to it, like stripes, noise, or a grid!
the background, which is everything behind the page, can be set to a color, gradient, image, video, or slideshow! do whatever you want with it.
and yeah! there are lots of things you can do with your site to make it look just how you want it and to personalize it to you - and don’t be afraid to look things up to learn how to add even more! (i learned about adding columns for images with a quick google search when i was making my own carrd!)
once you’re done, click on the save button on the top menu (it looks like a floppy disk, not like anyone knows what that is nowadays. it’s the button next to the phone). if you don’t have a carrd account, it will ask you to make one with your email - this is so you can save your carrd! agree to the terms of service, you get the drill.
then give your carrd a simple title and description! once you do, you can choose whether you want to publish your site now or save it as a draft to your account. if you do want to publish, choose a name for your site that fits the contents! for example, my botanica info carrd is appropriately titled botanica.carrd.co (as ‘botanica’ is what it’s about! note: that carrd is super outdated now...)
whenever your ready, you can publish your carrd! then you can link it in your tumblr description, on your pinned post, or wherever else everyone can see it!
this probably isn’t much, but i hope it helped anyway! have an amazing day, bud!  :]

Tumblr media
a philosophical vagabond of vague age. acts stoic all the time but can and will leave every social situation whether or not it’s humanly possible. infp.
after watching some 90s moomin (and later on moominvalley) i realized how much i liked him and how much i was like him; i soon daydreamed of myself, as snufkin, venting to someone. it made me very happy. i vibe with his general demeanor and ideals (minus his gripes about rules, i follow those by the book) and i love psychoanalyzing him. so fun. so fun.
3. arnold perlstein (the magic school bus)
Tumblr media
overly-anxious jewish kid and certified expert on rocks and panicking. owns a pair of fire-proof pyjamas in a lovely shade of green. isfj.
you all saw this one coming. my early childhood lives in my mind rent free and such i can’t help but revisit arn and his character. i’ve always loved him (even in, and quite possibly especially in, the reboot) and i’ve always loved psychoanalyzing every single little thing he does (remember that one time he said he was traumatized? me too). i soon realized a lot of it was me projecting! so sue me. actually, sue miss frizzle. either one of them. i mean, if arnold really didn’t like the field trips he could’ve just filed a restraining order! ...just saying.
4. fluttershy (my little pony)
Tumblr media
anxious pastel butterfly baby child. probably loves animals more than she loves herself. cries upon impact. isfj.
the pony i’d mentally point to and think “me”. i had like 10 fluttershy-related things growing up, like plushies or funko pops or that sdcc guardians of harmony thing. while not shy in the same manner, it was nice having a character i could relate to about so much! i cosplayed as her equestria girls form for my first comic con as well, so that’s pretty cool. in addition, me being a little lepidopterist means i was bound to love her. it was destiny~
5. lammy lamb (um jammer lammy)
Tumblr media
socially anxious and generally anxious rock star who thinks literally everything is a guitar. has an emotional support girlfriend. infp.
man!! she embodies the feeling when you have to go to the eye doctor by yourself to get your glasses fixed or when you have to call someone over the phone... that sheer tension. the panic. the feeling of ‘i want to throw my entire being into the trash can’. but lammy has a bunch of friends to support her, so she’s cool. died by slipping on a banana peel! same, sister. and man would i like to shred on my ukulele now...
6. loser (bfb)
Tumblr media
humble (screw bfb 21), supportive, well-loved cube dude who’s voice is like that of an angel. has an entire fanclub in his honor. enfj.
okay, no, i was never a cool kid or ‘popular’, really, but in school i was never bullied for whatever reason and was generally well-liked; i hung out with a squad of weirdos and yet the cool kids would often talk to me? and try to engage me?? despite my very apparent self-deprecation and awkwardness??? either way i feel like it’s such a blessing to me, that i have so many friends! i often feel like i don’t deserve it, but hey. it’s nice! and heck, back when i was on scratch i had a little fanclub myself :0
7. fan (inanimate insanity)
Tumblr media
nerdy, friendly aspie boyo who subliminally vents via blogging. longs for stability in his life; was best friends with an egg. entp.
ever since i noted his aspergers-like behavior i became super attached to him - whether or not it was intentional, i found it nice having a character i can relate those feelings with. he’s really sweet and dorky and i love how he gets along with test tube, paintbrush, and lightbulb! it makes me really happy to see him whenever i do. it made me really sad when he was eliminated. what the heck. yeah i dunno i don’t kin him super strongly but i love him to bits.
8. spinel (steven universe the movie)
Tumblr media
emotionally unstable clown girl who stood in a garden for thousands of years. patience of a saint. edge like an 11-year-old me. esfp.
uhh um uh totally wasn’t completely disturbed by how much i related to spinel after watching steven universe the movie... totally wasn’t reminded about how and why i hated middle school... totally didn’t rethink my life that day... that’s it. this is all i’m saying.
9. molly blyndeff (epithet erased)
Tumblr media
innocent child who has a terrible father and a wonderful demeanor. teddy bear who needs a hug and a criminal as her new dad. infp.
epithet erased is adorable okay?? i knew molly was infp in the first few minutes... more precisely, i knew she was me. man!! i don’t relate directly to her angst but i still feel it. i can replicate her voice so accurately it’s scary. also, i coined a new thing -  ‘molly cake’! you have a chocolate cake, preferably with chocolate chips inside. use chocolate frosting and add little pastel star sprinkles! on top! my mom would make this cake for us anyway but then i realized it was literally just molly in cake form. and it’s just as sweet!
10. tommy coolatta (hlvrai)
Tumblr media
a 30-something-year-old child who rocks a propeller hat. chose his last name off of a dunkin donuts menu despite the fact that he has a father. infp.
everyone loves tommy. he’s so sweet? and funny and loveable?? often times when i say something funny but bizarre, i just remember that tommy has said ‘soda helps you see faster’ and it makes me happy. if i’m going to be a weirdo i want to be the wholesome weirdo who loves soda and has a .png for a dog! also i legally have to kin tommy. i took a test for it (and i’m not complaining! i find it quite flattering).
11. twyla (monster high)
Tumblr media
the daughter of the boogeyman; would very much like to boogey out of here, if you know what i mean. avoids people like the plague. infj.
seeing her role in the show and in the movies, i really love twyla? first of all, her voice is my new favorite thing. it’s like... gravelly? and soft? she’s the type of person who would very much like to disappear when in a crowd; thankfully, she literally can. i am drawn to any sarcastic, self-deprecating introvert who takes care of their bonkers extrovert friend (in this case howleen), as i often act as such myself. also the phrase ‘boogey sand’ will never leave my mind now :)
12. lapis lazuli (steven universe)
Tumblr media
water gem who wants you to leave. cynical as all heck, sensitive as all hell. is there such thing as a gem therapist? just asking. infp.
in a similar way to twyla, i vibe with lapis’ sarcasm and wit as well as her emotional side. it can be kind of addicting, isolating one’s self. anywho, me and my sister used to do this routine of yelling up to each other this certain dialogue between lapis and peridot when peri was leaving for something (in which lapis replied to everything she said with dry ‘yeah’s); i would always do lapis’ part. i do reply a lot with ‘okay’ or ‘yeah’ or ‘cool’ to things people tell me, as i never really know what to say.
13. brad meltzer (xavier riddle and the secret museum)
Tumblr media
shy jewish butterfly kid who absolutely hates time travel. attracted to people who know how to socialize like a normal human being. infp(?).
okay okay so... combine everything from arnold and everything from fluttershy and that’s basically what brad is to me. a jewish socially anxious nerd who loves butterflies and drawing. badabing badaboom, there i am. that’s it.
and boom! all of the kins i can think of, of course not including comfort characters like will byers from stranger things or isabelle from animal crossing. if you have any kins to suggest to me, i would love it! thank you for taking your time to read this, friend! have a fantastic day :)

okay so lately i’ve been thinking about even dumber british people (you know how some time ago i was thinking about dumb british people? yea), particularly the beatles
y’know like everyone knows the beatles of course but recently i was like “man they are like. super cool. and man paul mccartney is so rad. (he’s my favorite beatle. i love all of them though)” and then i watched a 2 hour 30 minute long video on youtube talking about his relationship with john and then i watched the second one which was an hour thirty and the third one which is an hour 45 and now i’m on the fourth one which is also around an hour 45
i mean like heck yeah, the beatles’ songs are super good and super catchy and all, of course they are, that’s a given; but what i’m really fascinated about is the beatles themselves!! like who they are as people and their relationships with each other and with people outside the band and the stuff they were going through and the psychology of it all, really. the fact that all 4 of them are super famous and started out at such a young age made it so the general public got such a full view of their lives, in a way?
like the videos i’ve been seeing really gives me such an interesting picture of the 4 of them, particularly paul and john; they were the ones primarily doing the singing and songwriting, and they really put out a lot of emotion and stuff into their songs - hey jude was written by paul to comfort john’s son, paul wrote let it be after seeing his deceased mother in a dream, etc. the songs that got the most popular seemed to be the ones with their emotion in it and everything. i suppose then, in a way, the beatles live on indefinitely in their eternally adored songs, as their lives were documented within them, in a sense. it’s really cool to think about, touching even :’)
also i mean no duh i don’t know the beatles personally, i probably wouldn’t be a cringy teen on tumblr if i did, but yet what i’ve learned about them, through their songs or through the videos i’ve watched, make it feel like i do, in a way. the beatles were incredibly popular and well-loved, so of course it was a worldwide tragedy when john lennon died; but something about the detail in which i have learned about his life and his relationships with the people he was close to made it all the more impactful to me, someone who would usually take stuff like that in stride.
okay sorry for rambling about the beatles of all things, but i find it really fascinating to learn about them. also their songs all slap and they are all pretty people so it’s no wonder people love them. if you want to watch the video i was talking about, here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AILqCAk1cg i dunno if you want to watch 2 hours 30 minutes about two beatles but idk have fun i guess?? and goodnight lol

i’m already losing it folks. i’ve passed the point of no return and that was back in the center of the sun! WhErE ArNoLd aLmOsT DiEd
ok ok so i said i’d look for the flying tennellis thing, here it is:
Tumblr media
in the episode you see measurements given to random parts of the scenery.
you see the red part of the bleachers on the left? the height it gave for it was 3.73 feet, which i calculated to be 3 feet and 8.75 inches (it might be off by a bit, i did this a while ago).
to make sure that perspective wasn’t skewing proportions, i chose a character whose feet line up with the bottom line of the bleachers. and so i chose carlos; i made a rectangle the height of the red part of the bleachers and stood it beside him, and stacked another one on top: carlos’s height is a bit over twice the height of the red part of the bleachers.
knowing the height of the read part of the bleachers, about how tall is carlos? dum da da da -
with this information, carlos is at least 7 foot 5.
note the ‘at least’, given how he’s taller than the two rectangles. (calculations: 3 feet + 3 feet = 6 feet. 8.75 inches + 8.75 inches = 17.5 inches. 6 feet + 17.5 inches = 7 feet & 5.5 inches)
that alone is scary enough, but with further calculation (which i have no record of on discord, sadly), ms frizzle would be around 8 foot 7.
note how in the episode itself it was stated that ralphie is 4 and a half feet tall, so how does that compare to the measurement of the 3.75 ft bleacher? he’s probably around 6 feet tall in relation to the bleacher (again, these calculations aren’t documented. i had only stated them with no screenshot).
so in conclusion, the red part of those bleachers is not 3.75 feet!! ha! get nitpicked you dingus who put in that number! you didn’t count on me finding out the issue in your plotline!! ha!!!
you know what? at this point i’m embracing the stupidity of this all. i’m including some screenshots under the cut, laugh at them if you want

your guess is as good as mine, pal

i have new stuff i’ve made that i’m gonna post but first i want to point out some super wholesome things that i love about my high school?
1. every teacher has asked us our preferred pronouns and was non-judgemental when i said i go by she/her or they/them
2. in a lot of classes we received surveys so we can tell the teacher a bit about ourselves and how we learn best
the school really does seem to care about us! like, a ton!
also, today was the first real day of classes, so the discord server for students at the school blew up today - i had joined the video call and started vibing with the people there, they were all in my grade and we had a blast playing among us together!
in addition, hearing them refer to me as ‘ellie’ rather than ‘elianna’ (my full name, which i’d been referred to in previous years at school to avoid confusion) made me super happy. i’m still questioning my gender identity, so hearing myself being referred to by a more gender-neutral name just put a smile on my face! the other kids were also just super nice and fun to be around!!
it’s also my mom’s birthday today so i’m just-
i’m just so happy!! :)

so guys? always reach out to content creators if you can so you can tell them how much you admire their work! and i don’t only mean artists on the interwebs, no -
i also mean authors!
i got introduced to this hilarious murder mystery series about two old men who solve crimes together in the peculiar crimes unit - the books are called ‘bryant and may’ and are written by christopher fowler.
now my dad has his email for whatever reason - not like i’m very surprised - and he said ‘oh! go email him and tell him that you enjoy his books and stuff!’
i had also drawn my interpretations of his characters, so my dad asked me to include a picture of that as well. i did so, and for a couple of days i awaited a response; i wouldn’t be surprised if he was busy and didn’t have time to reply to some child who had his email for some reason, so i found it a delight when i found a reply from him in my inbox.
the thing is, the reason why it made my day was the hilarity of it.
here was fowler’s response:
Tumblr media
amazing, simply glorious. this is what i want to hear.
this has made my day. i am delighted. thank you christopher fowler. thank you.

(here’s the picture i drew by the way!)

i find it extremely suspicious how tumblr only stopped working for me yesterday when i was about to make a post comparing the supernatural fandom and the meta-fandom of people observing the supernatural fandom to a bunch of people rooting through a pile of flaming garbage, in which they dig deeper and find even worse garbage, and the friends who are also in the dump while the others are rooting through the garbage and just watch from the side but still tell the story to their parents as if they actually were the ones rooting through said flaming pile of garbage
i don’t think tumblr wants me to say that

the finale: bfb 30 and good conclusions
hello there! it’s melon here - given a day to fully process the immense (emotional) impact of the bfb finale, i’ve found a number of points that not only tie up loose ends and finish arcs, but also parallel previous seasons and help finish off such a great season.
i have a lot to say, so read it under the cut! thanks for checking out my ramblings!! i hope i don’t make too many mistakes or anything, i’m no all time bfb expert lol :’D spoilers for bfb and inanimate insanity!
1. character arcs
while the bfb split certainly had its fair share of issues, it also had the major strength of giving us a smaller cast of characters and letting certain characters and relationships really develop. a number of these got wrapped up very nicely in the finale.
a) flower
i’ll say this bluntly: at the beginning of bfdi, flower was the definition of petty. she was aggressive and rather selfish, and because of that a lot of her fellow contestants didn’t like her. this harsh personality was especially prominent in the first season, but it’s very clear that she has softened and matured considerably.
in bfb, it’s very clear that she is very validation-seeking, doing whatever she can to have ruby call her beautiful, for example. this is exemplified in the post-split, with her being overjoyed at firey calling her a friend, as well as envying the newbie alliance and wanting to be part of a similar friendship. she is clearly aware at this point that there are a number of people not too fond of her, and wants to change that.
in the world’s largest oven, flower tries to spend time with teardrop to befriend them - td doesn’t want anything of the sort. flower is aware of how she’s perceived, especially with teardrop thinking she’s self-centered. when flower thinks she’s starting to warm up to her, giving her the opportunity to escape the oven, it turns out td is just using her as a method to escape herself. it’s apparent flower didn’t succeed at appealing to her - because of this self-centeredness, whether it be intentional or not.
in the penultimate episode, flower gives up the money she earned which she intended to use for her business; this parallels the finale itself, in which she does the ultimate generous act by letting the announcer have the bfdi she earned. flower in the first season would likely do no such thing, keeping the bfdi for herself. now, even through she rightly won it, she lets the announcer have the bfdi.
in addition, flower lets gelatin have the bfb and consoles purple face when he had stolen the bfdi. she retains the passionate and assertive demeanor she’s always had, but now clearly has learned to let others have the spotlight. flower has truly grown into a leader, someone who in every regard deserves to have won bfb - someone who’s matured from... well, a brat... to one of the greatest and most generous friends anyone could ever have; and i commend her for that.
b) gelatin
gelatin has had a similar arc, albeit to less of an extreme.
unfortunately most of what i know about gelatin is only from bfb itself; however, this alone can serve as testament to his early behavior. gelatin is distinctly shown to be immature and childish, to the point of extreme annoyance to people like donut. he is clearly young, but definitely not young enough to excuse his oblivious fork-throwing, ideas to explode bomby, or out-of-place jokes.
after the split, gelatin seemed to be more focused in his efforts to win bfb; joining up with lollipop for the newbie alliance, he retained his childish demeanor, but started seeming more concerned about winning the competition. gelatin started having a brother-sister with lollipop at this time as well.
when showing his discomfort of td acting violent towards him, gelatin shows that he’s moved past his mildly violent activities from before - throwing forks and threatening to explode bomby, namely. this and his improved focus towards winning bfb signify the beginning of his more mature self. teardrop joins the newbie alliance, and the three members have a familial bond which only helps further motivate gelatin. now he truly has a focus, something he cares about which he can spend his plentiful energy on.
gelatin is clearly dedicated to helping his alliance members, which he does time and time again in challenges; he is very attached to them and hates having to separate from them - he’s saddened by lolly and td’s respective eliminations, and is also concerned when lolly initially doesn’t support him in the finale. for the rest of the finale, the three support each other and work in sync to help find four.
in the beginning of the episode, when flower wins bfb, gelatin takes it in stride and still feels pride in himself. he is able to bond with flower, who shares her prize with him, and the two later share a joint steakhouse-fashion store at the end.
another distinct sign of gelatin’s newfangled maturity is his talk with four on the sun; he doesn’t sugarcoat anything he says, knowing that four was indeed mean to him and his fellow contestants, but also acknowledges their own faults. he is self-aware and supportive without being... soft. he retains his energy, and knows where to direct it. gelatin is clearly more emotionally intelligent than he was before, knowing what would potentially hurt people and what would make them feel better. for someone who used to make immature jokes every 5 seconds, i think his development is worthy of praise and a spot in second place. he’s a winner too, in my eyes.
c) lollipop/teardrop
this is the first joint arc i’m mentioning - an arc that deals with the relationship between two characters. straight off the bat in bfb, lollipop is quick to not listen to td and purposefully misinterpret what she obviously wants. they are part of the same team pre-split, and this dynamic stays fairly consistent for that duration.
in post-split, they’re specifically on the same team again, giving time for them to genuinely connect. lollipop does a bit more of her manipulation of teardrop’s muteness, but soon falls out of this. td is clearly a very intelligent and competent contestant, and lollipop feels like they’d be a good addition to the newbie alliance. at this point, lolly is observing and not assuming; she’s approaching td because she thinks they’d be a good alliance-member.
the newbie alliance now consists of td in addition to lolly and gelatin, and the three form a close bond. from this point onward, the latter two genuinely listen to td never really mention her muteness at all. when walking up the brb tower to eliminate profily, td is stopped by lollipop, who wants to take them the rest of the way to win immunity. when teardrop doesn’t want to give them to her, lollipop listens and lets her go along without question.
gelatin and lollipop embrace teardrop, and the three form a familial bond that transcends elimination and drives whoever’s remaining to fight harder. even after the competition ends, the three can work flawlessly together to locate four. despite not communicating verbally, teardrop is understood by them because they choose to try.
for gelatin, there was no previously established tension between him and td. but for td and lolly, their relationship now is vastly different to what it was in pre-split bfb. lollipop used to treat teardrop basically how everyone used to treat them - insensitively, manipulatively, dismissively; not caring for what td actually meant or wanted, but instead using them and taking advantage of them. not trying to understand them. but here we have lollipop, who used to exemplify that, understanding td because she’s chosen to try. and that’s really nice! go newbie alliance, and heck, go me B)
d) blocky/woody
whether you ship them or not, the relationship between these two is also important as a change to the status quo of the show; like how lolly used to be dismissive and td used to be purposefully misunderstood, blocky used to be incredibly mean and woody used to be afraid of everything. the concept of sensitivity intrinsically links the two of them.
blocky used to be a complete jerk; he’s always loved pranking people in particularly violent ways - and woody was his most frequent victim. blocky was ruthless, and found that amusing. woody, on the other hand, lived in a constant state of fear - with many phobias one might not consider normal to any extent. note also woody’s inability to speak coherently.
in bfb, blocky has less to work with in terms of pranks due to the lack of recovery centers. when post-split bfb comes around, taco points this out, and he starts getting back into the pranking game. however, at the same time, taco suggests that he also be more sensitive to woody - they were on the same team after all; blocky’s first attempt to appeal to him failed, giving him a gift he found offensive, but by the next episode it’s clear woody looks up to blocky.
woody takes up a bit of mischief himself, which blocky is attuned to. the two strike up an unlikely friendship, and blocky tries to get woody to be his pranking successor. woody clearly only does this at the beginning to make him happy, as when blocky’s eliminated he doesn’t want to do it anymore. later on its revealed that woody isn’t comfortable with pranking people - and blocky helps him pursue his own thing, helping people get over their fears.
woody has always been extremely sensitive; that’s his thing. blocky didn’t used to be sensitive at all, being quite often the opposite, but befriending woody has caused him to consider the feelings of others more. he’s more willing to help people now and acts as a supportive presence to woody.
in fact, i believe this to be the reason why woody is able to speak somewhat now. blocky used to be his biggest threat, someone he was always in fear of being hurt by. now, not only is blocky consistently not hurting him, but he’s also his friend who will back him up and console him if he’s too far out of his comfort zone. i believe that now woody feels safe, and that might contribute to him being able to speak now. the two of them have a really sweet and supportive friendship, which makes me really happy whenever i see it!
2. parallels
a really nice way for a finale to wrap up everything and tie it back to the previous seasons and episodes is to parallel them! it really helps show how the characters generally have grown and progressed, as well as feeding into nostalgia for previous seasons.
a) parallels to firey in leafy’s falling out in bfdi
basically everyone knows the firey and leafy fiasco: they were good friends, firey made a ferris wheel for leafy as a gift, leafy dies from it, firey won’t let her into dream island because he misunderstood what happened and is offended that she didn’t like his gift to her, leafy steals dream island, etc. etc. all that jazz, creating a tense dynamic that lasted for the majority of the series, only being resolved in bfb 22 and 23.
of course, this relationship is iconic and central to the show - it helps drive many events and friendships going forward; so it’s only expected that something like this would be paralleled and alluded to later on in the series.
there are two instances of this in bfb: pre-split and post-split. in pre-split, book misunderstands taco’s disappearance and assumes that she has chosen to abandon them. this causes book to hate taco for something she never did, and go on believing that she hates them. this, like what happened between firey and leafy, was born out of a lack of communication, jumping to conclusions, and incredibly high emotional sensitivity, which would cause at least one party to hate the other for something that never happened.
unfortunately, due to the nature of the split, book and taco’s resolution was incredibly rushed, so we get nothing satisfying. one could say the same for firey and leafy, and i understand where that’s coming from, but i personally find it satisfying enough and i like the callback to the original ferris wheel with a new one that can fit the both of them.
in post-split bfb, we don’t really get much of this type of dynamic. however, in the finale, it harks back to firey and leafy in the perfect way by highlighting what could happen, what doesn’t happen, and why.
when asked who she supports, who she’d vote for, lollipop is hesitant to choose gelatin despite their close friendship. in a previous episode, she had injected him with some of her purple coloring so he’d remember her after she was eliminated, but now it was gone. lollipop has assumed that gelatin has done this on purpose. what could happen is a major falling out between these two for the same reasons as firey/leafy and book/taco - misunderstanding what happened and assuming.
this doesn’t happen, however. when gelatin tries to explain himself, lolly takes time to listen. gelatin tells her that when he died and got revived, the coloring didn’t revive with him - simple as that. having heard what gelatin said, lollipop listens, and understands. there can be no falling out, as lollipop understands that gelatin did nothing wrong and did nothing to hurt her.
there can be no falling out, because these two characters have properly communicated with each other. unlike firey and leafy or book, lolly is listening and trying to understand - much like how she’s been doing with teardrop, who doesn’t communicate verbally. this interaction between lollipop and gelatin, despite how otherwise insignificant it is, shows a major change in the general maturity of the characters and their ability to communicate and listen to each other. this was only able to be done by paralleling one of the most important moments in the show’s history.
b) show-stealing and validation
for some reason, the act of petty theft is an incredibly prominent motif throughout bfdi; leafy steals dream island, four (inadvertently) steals the show from the announcer, two steals the show from four, firey steals donut’s diary, the announcer steals the show from four... there’s a lot of thievery in goiky, apparently.
leafy stealing dream island and later firey stealing donut’s diary is an obvious parallel stated in-show, so i won’t address it here. however, i would like to highlight the specific act of stealing a show.
the announcer hosted the first season of the show, bfdi; he had to come out of the picture in later seasons, while still pulling the strings and planning his eventual return. being an incredibly large fan of bfdi, and eventually seeing his opportunity, four, along with x, makes his debut as host of a new season, bfb. four has stolen the opportunity the announcer had, and has inadvertently stolen his show.
four and x go on to host for a while - there is a bit of a mix-up with hosting when four is gotten rid of, leaving donut and x to host. upon returning, four seems like he’s upset at x for doing it without him, for ‘stealing his show’, but isn’t. four isn’t as understanding when two makes his appearance, however.
the incredible two shows up and impresses the contestants with their powers and their general charm, which leads many of them to want to join their show instead of staying on bfb. four is incredibly upset with two for stealing his show and his contestants - and, in a sense, his co-host and best friend x. x later rejoins him, but not voluntarily.
four continues his own show, albeit with drastically less contestants; it soon becomes apparent that his own contestants aren’t too attached to him, being more welcoming to someone like profily or purple face than they are to him. in a sense, characters like profily or purple face are stealing the show - rather, stealing the attention he desires.
because of this, four insists on profily’s elimination and takes the contestants to the middle of nowhere to prevent anyone else from grabbing the spotlight. this fails because 1. purple face still tags along and 2. the announcer shows up. he immediately grabs the attention of the contestants, who are incredibly fond of him.
this is basically the last straw for four; his show was stolen again and again and again, and he felt nobody cared about him - so, like early in bfb, he disappears, again leaving hosting vague. the announcer barely hosts, only really wanting to steal back the bfdi, x doesn’t host much, being too sad to do so, and purple face tries to host, with varying success.
in the canon of bfb, both ‘a bfdi’ and ‘a bfb’ are tangible things, being recordings of bfdi-bfdia and bfb respectively. they represent shows in themselves, even if tangible ones. likewise, it’s incredibly easy to show more characters trying to steal the show - the announcer and purple face, among some contestants, try to steal the bfdi from flower.
it’s very apparent that a lot of the characters in the show are dependent on attention and validation, and so present themselves flamboyantly or as if they’re important to get that attention and validation that they seek. the two biggest examples of this are four and flower, both of which being incredibly validation-dependent and incredibly showy for the same reason. all of these characters are so desperate for the attention, for the spotlight, and it’s represented by them trying to steal the bfdi.
woody is able to convince most of the other contestants to stop, but purple face and the announcer still want it. purple face has had the majority of his life stolen from him. the announcer has had his life’s work stolen from him. flower won the bfdi. they all have reasons to want it; flower is able to console purple face, but she also knows that giving the bfdi to the announcer would be the best for everyone. she’s one of the most attention-seeking characters on the show, so her giving the show to someone else is important.
likewise, she gave up half of her prize to the runner-up, gelatin. she didn’t have to do that, but she did. gelatin then went on to use the bfb for good, not to take advantage of it. he uses it to help show four all of the good that’s happened and help show him that they, the final 14 (15?), do care about him. flower and gelatin are doing the exact opposite of stealing by using their gifts generously and making others feel better about themselves.
not only does this tie back to and defy the bfb trope of theft, but also defies the selfish gain of attention to satisfy one’s validation needs. this is one of the best parallels in my opinion!
c) anti-climactic prizes
this last parallel isn’t important and is more for fun; it’s just something interesting and kind of amusing i’ve noticed about the ending to each season of bfdi.
in bfdi, firey wins dream island, but we never see it, because leafy steals it. the prize itself doesn’t impact the next season; rather, the impact of the prize impacts the next season.
in bfdia, the last episode doesn’t exist. instead, we’re just told about the ending in the next season... which is that puffball was eliminated. there is no prize to impact the next season.
in idfb, there is only one episode. there is obviously no prize to impact the next season.
in bfb, flower wins the bfb and the bfdi, but gives the bfb to gelatin and lets the announcer have the bfdi; like firey, she doesn’t get her prize - speaking of which, the prizes are literally past seasons.
this is in no way a bad thing, but i just find it amusing how much the prizes are inherent to the show yet how infrequently anyone actually gets them or has them impact future seasons. contrast this with inanimate insanity, and it’s even more noticeable:
at the end of the first season, oj wins the prize money, which he uses to have his own hotel. the hotel directly impacts the next two seasons, being where contestants go when eliminated in ii2 and being directly referenced and worried about by oj in ii3. it’s also the setting for inanimate comics and fff, which further integrates the prize. this is just a funny thing i noticed though, completely inconsequential as i see it.
3. other things
here’s some more things about the bfb finale that i found interesting or meaningful that don’t fit into the other categories!
a) firey and leafy’s agency
as i’ve mentioned previously, firey and leafy’s falling out at the end of bfdi is incredibly important to the show as a whole. as bfb has now come to an end, with a number of parallels back to that falling out, it’s incredibly interesting to see what firey and leafy are up to and how they’ve grown.
for one thing, the both of them are incredibly self-aware of what happened to them - that stealing out of spite will only cause pain, and that sharing your prize will not only make someone else happy but will also make you happy. at this point both firey and leafy have acknowledged where they respectively went wrong, and they don’t want others to follow that same path.
in addition, the ending to the episode (and to bfb as a whole) serves as a very important aspect not only to firey and leafy’s growth but also to the growth of the show generally; firey and leafy decide to find their own dream island. not in a competition, but completely by their own free will.
the two of them are actively choosing to be together on this journey, and will share whatever they find. they aren’t competing; they aren’t fighting; there are no winners or losers. they have full independence and full agency over what they’re doing - for a show that’s so competition-centric, this feels incredibly liberating. whether this means that firey and leafy wouldn’t be present for a competition in a hypothetical next season, either way they are given time to catch up after years of tension and not have to worry about the whole ‘stealing dream island’ fiasco - because now they’re finding a dream island to share.
there’s something about this specifically that contributes to bfb 30′s melancholy and sweet ending. firey and leafy are leaving to somewhere; they’ll probably come back eventually, but we don’t know when. you know it’ll make them happy, going away for a bit, and yet you can’t help but miss them either way. i really love that feeling it evokes.
b) nobody in the wrong
there’s a major conflict in the finale that’s summed up like this: four is mean to the contestants, the contestants don’t care about him, four is hurt and leaves, the contestants pursue him; it’s important to note how it alternates between four and the contestants.
you see, nobody is truly in the wrong or right here. when gelatin is talking to four about why him and his fellow contestants were upset with him, he says that four would hurt them or threaten them, which would cause them not to want to associate with him and not like him very much. this is true - four isn’t the most agreeable person, and there are certainly those afraid of him.
however, what four does is understandable as well. he wanted to be included, to be appreciated, to be loved. when nobody does that, instead valuing strangers and complete nobodies over him, he starts being hurt. soon enough it’s clear to four that they don’t care, so he sinks into the ground and retreats into his fantasies. when the contestants then try to find him, he is reasonably upset by them bothering him.
gelatin brings up both sides and highlights that four definitely hurt the contestants, and the contestants definitely hurt four - but that doesn’t mean that they can’t care about each other. the conflict here is complex and both sides now understand it; there’s something nice about nobody completely being in the wrong or right here - things are never black and white, and it’s generally best to try to understand somebody’s position than to say they’re objectively bad.
c) teardrop disappearance??
near the ending of the finale, gelatin is reading out his comic and asks if teardrop would like it - given how they are fond of making comics themselves. it appears that teedster is missing, but lollipop assures gelatin that she won’t be too long. i expected that’d mean that we’d see her in the post-credits scene.
this ended up not being the case, of course, as we instead got the charming “hey” scene with firey and leafy in their boat. then where is td?
if td’s absence wasn’t important, it wouldn’t have been brought up. but it specifically was, and we were given no explanation in the episode - we’re just left to speculate about where teardrop could be and why.
there are two things that come to mind: the first one is that teardrop is being turned into a marketable plushie. i know, i know, that’s silly, and probably wishful thinking, but it’s clear that something ‘important’ is happening to them, whatever that is. also, woody was the most recent plushie, and during the bfb 29 credits, where there was a teardrop family reunion, woody was specifically mentioned. but that’s just a theory lolol.
the most common other theory i’ve seen is that td will play a major part in the next season... whatever that means. will they be the host? will the competition just inherently have to do with her? i don’t know exactly what this might imply, but either way it’s fun to think about. maybe it means that teardrop’s getting their own short series like fff, which i had been wishing for recently - but who knows for sure?
either way, i’m very curious as to where i am. what i’m up to. my brother’s out here making comics and i’m not even there to read them? perhaps i’m going on a pirate adventure... who knows. i’m just glad that i seem to be up to something of indeterminable importance!! lol
4. wrapping up
boy oh boy the bfb finale. oh my gardener, right?? we’re finally here! it’s crazy to think about... i only joined the osc last year and yet i feel so tied to bfb; it’s so sad to leave it behind, but at the same time i’m extremely satisfied with the ending and am excited for what’s to come.
thank you cary and michael huang for creating such a wonderful show for all of us to enjoy - the attention to detail in this wonderful finale helps make it all feel complete. this season definitely hasn’t been perfect, not at all, but when it was good, it was incredible. curse you- i mean thank you jnj for making me cry about objects. my siblings think i’m insane <3
