i love you (i want us both to eat well)

She moved to the syndicate table and started unpacking her groceries. Butter, two types of sugar, some eggs. Flour, the vanilla extract she made herself in old potion bottles, a lemon she’d asked Ponk for. The syndicate had decided on a monthly meeting to meet up and learn about different subjects, and this time it was Niki’s turn to teach. She lined up her ingredients on the table, the strange humming energy it always put off thrumming through her fingertips. How was this going to go? She had been abandoned and left to burn so many times. She didn’t want to storm away in the middle of baking, anger demanding that she destroy something, half-made ingredients left to harden indelibly as she went to break herself against stones or explosives. She didn’t want to be alone again. OR: As four injured people rebuilt their lives, the Syndicate has started meeting to teach each other things. And this time it's Niki's turn to lead. She's going to make a cake.

@flamekeeperzine has been my first time contributing to a zine, and i've had an absolutely wonderful time with it. so much love to the mods for running the show and pulling it all together, the end product is absolutely beautiful! everyone's contributions are beyond incredible - make sure to check it out, because the zine is truly something special ❤️‍🔥

Flamekeeper Release Announcement

Hello everyone! From the mod team, we sincerely apologize for the delays so far. After several real-life difficulties for all of the mods, we are pleased to announce that the final zine is almost ready for release!

The scheduled release date for the Flamekeeper Zine is January 5th, 2024. You’ll be able to download it for free from itch.io, with a linked charity we recommend donating to should you want to spend money on the zine.

Our wonderful contributors have done an amazing job on every single piece. We’re so excited to share it with you!

Podficcer Applications Open!

Hi everyone! We know it's been a while since we've posted an update, but our contributors have been hard at work on their creations for the zine. As of a few days ago, though, the writers and artists have all officially finished their pieces, and we're now opening up applications for audio pack contributors!

These contributors will make podfics of the fics our writers created and audio descriptions for our artists' works, in hopes of making this zine accessible to an even wider audience. We will also accept other forms of audio fanworks as well, such as fansongs!

If you're interested in signing up, please check out the application and make sure to apply with an email you check regularly. We're so excited to meet our audio contributors!

Theme spotlight: Pyre 🕯️

Flamekeeper, a c!Niki zine currently at contributor apps, will be divided into three sections, each containing art and writing aligning with the section’s overarching theme. The third of these is pyre.

The pyre is a farewell. Her flame takes the past and the future under its wing, devours and sings lullabies, solemn and gentle. There are new beginnings on the horizon, and the funeral pyre - cruel and kind both - guides all dying souls to their next destination.

This section will center the duality between mercy and destruction, and the metaphorical rebirth that takes place in between: flame as something that destroys, but offers up new beginnings from the ashes. You might see Niki building a funeral pyre for L'Manberg's memory, find a poem about what the Syndicate means to her, or read about her beginning to bake again.

Theme spotlight: Wildfire ❤️‍🔥

Flamekeeper, a c!Niki zine currently at contributor apps, will be divided into three sections, each containing art and writing aligning with the section’s overarching theme. The second of these is wildfire.

The wildfire consumes all. Once nothing more than a spark, it blazes now, defiant; the barriers keeping her tame have broken under her power, and she sets to burning all those who stand in her way. At the core of this uncontrolled flame, though, is that first spark: that there is some idea she must keep alive, and she will not let anyone silence it.

This section will center vicious, angry flames - both righteous fury and untamed rage. Here, Niki's restraint gives out; she leaves scars on all who try to chain her. You might read about Niki burning to the L'Mantree, find a poem about those she feels have wronged her, or see her curled up underground in her secret city slashing off her hair and letting it burn.

After discussion with our mod team, it's time for Flamekeeper's schedule to be released! Precise times may vary, and this schedule is subject to change pending application numbers, contributor behaviour and final specs of the zine.

The pitch form will open once 90% of accepted contributors are in the server, so a sooner response is better. If an accepted contributor has not responded to our onboarding form by June 30, we will begin seeking a pinch hitter to fill that position.

Bonjour! In the spirit of curiosity, I'm going around asking people things about their experiences in fandom. So, here's the first question: have you ever joined an exchange or fan-run event before (can be as a writer, beta reader, or artist)? If the answer is yes, what did you like about it? Can you share the piece you made for it? Cheers! 🪶 anon

Yeah! I have been part of two Technoblade gift exchanges, the dreblrtine exchange, a new year secret santa, the flamekeeper zine, the dtqk+ big bang, the dsmp pin up calendar, the through the ages collab and fanart speedrun on twitter and some less committal (but no less fun) stuff like the sixteenth day event and art trades! I have always joined as an artist :) I also organized the dreblr secret santa this year, and I am running a big bang right now.

Generally, I enjoy drawing for others, it is just fun idk. And somehow drawing with some limitation (like a prompt) can be really inspiring to me and often creates drawings, I would have never done otherwise! Besides that, you just get exposed to more corners of the fandom. I think I found Airrec first because I was assigned to them in a gift exchange, and I have been enjoying their writing ever since. Anyway, here are my 4 favorite fandom event pieces I have done:

The hearth is a heart of a home - the fire that provides warmth, safety, and food for her family. Though the hearth is a controlled blaze, she tends and is tended to with love and care by those around her.

This section will center warm flames aligned with the home and the hearth; you might see Niki baking, read about her sharing a quiet moment with those she loves, or find a poem about what being the "hearthkeeper" means to her.
