Tag 9 People You Want to Get to Know Better:
I was tagged by @jb-blue63, and I haven't done one of these in a while, so why not?
Favorite colour:
Teal. Teal. All of the teal.
Currently reading:
Oh now that's a question.
According to goodreads I'm reading:
Hunter of Shadows by Jordan L. Hawk (which I'm listening to on Audible);
Heartstopper Volume 4 by Alice Oseman (Which I only read in bed and keep forgetting is on the floor);
Warrior's Cross by Madelaine Urban and Abigail Roux (I'm actually recording this for a friend, so it's slow going);
Brightly Burning by Mercedes Lackey (which is on my Kindle so I only tend to read it when I'm out of the house);
The Lost Ship of the Tucker Rebellion by Marie Sexton (which I got for Christmas and is also on the floor next to my bed and I keep forgetting about it);
Insurrection by Sally Malcolm (which is a comfort book that I started when I was ill a while ago but didn't finish(!));
Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater (which I am SO NEARLY FINISHED and really should just get on with it because I like it but I have to be in the mood for it); and
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind (which I love and am listening to on Audible but the narrator is hard going, so I haven't listened to it a huge amount).
Last songs:
If the world was ending (you'd come over right) cover by Jeff Satur feat. Seya Thongchua;
Angel Baby cover by Jeff Satur and 3rd Tilly Birds; and
Complicated by Jeff Satur.
I'm sensing a theme here...
Last series:
Last completed series was Kinnporsche (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh everyone watch Kinnporsche) but I’m currently inhaling The Sandman on Netflix and loving every second of it.
Last movie:
What a good looking question.
Er...Maybe Thor: Love & Thunder at the cinema. I don't think I've watched anything at home recently.
Currently working on:
Too many fics to count; technically (VERY technically) editing my book; and also my very first podcast project - Season 2 of Transmission Folklore.
No pressure tags:
@snake-and-mouse; @acacia-luna-royal; @m0hinii; @pinkkop; @the-pink-quill; @dum--spiro-spero; @sinistergooseberries; @maleficent-cannoli; and @florbexter

2020 Creator Wrap: Favorite Works
 Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Okay guys, so I was tagged by... nobody ^^ But I shamelessly stole this from another fandom and I think it’s such a cool idea. So time for all of you guys to flex ! I’ll start, and please don’t hesitate to continue the chain and share your work, because we have some amazing creators in this fandom and it’s be a shame to not recognize that.
I don’t know that any of those classify as “amazing things brought into the world”, but for what it’s worth here are 5 of my favourite creations for this year (and man this is difficult) :
1- I’ll Try Every way (Sarawat/Tine) - The fic that got me back into writing, the fic that I wrote in like... 2 days because of my obsession with this show and the love these two share, and the fic that allowed me to meet so many people. For that alone (and because it’ll always have a soft spot in my heart), it deserves a spot here.
2- All the Sudden I Fear (Kang Gook/Han Tae Joo) - I had such a specific vision in my head about how I wanted this entire fic to happen and it’s one of the only ones where I had such a vivid image, and I managed to put that into text exactly the way I envisionned it. It was also the first fic I wrote outside of the 2gether fandom after getting back into writing, and to this day I really like it.
3- Our Gift to the World Series (Pang/Wave) - Still ongoing so I hesitated in putting it there, but it’ll be finished by the end of 2020, so we’re doing this ! One of those stories has one of my favourite lines I’ve written. Also I loved challending myself to write for characters where I feel like I don’t have their voices down as much as I did for Sarawat/Tine and to write one fic a week... And while that part failed spectacularly, I’m still pretty proud of the result so far ^^
4- Home is an Irrevocable Condition (Sarawat/Tine) : I hesitated between this one and A Renewable Ressource, but ultimately this one won out because I’m soft for the hurt/comfort trope. It was really nice writing a Sarawat that is less confident than what we see on the show and delving into another part of their relationship and I just really like this one :)
5- The Risk it Took to Blossom (Sarawat/Tine) : Hands down my favourite fic I wrote in this fandom I think. Tine’s insecurities was an issue that I really wanted to delve into and I loved being able to explore that. I also poured so much of myself in this, it has to be the most personal fic I wrote. So yeah... The risk it took to blossom is probably my 2020 Queen.
I tag some of my favourite creators : @yihwas @brightwin @florbexter @asianmelodrama @petekaos @ficklefackle @earthfluuke @gunsatthaphan @wavelovespang @tawanv @wjmild @curlykytta @fiat-pattadon @pallyson @thingskateknows @oh-aew @taytawan @1akorn @sarawatism @owentodawn and everyone else I’ve surely forgotten that wants to share some of their creations with the world :)
Whether you guys are fic writers, gif makers, text posters, or crazy talented people that do all three, I can’t wait to see which works you show us !

the sleuth of the ming dynasty: first thoughts
(mildest spoilers up to episode 6 / this got super long, who would’ve thought)
so far the story is very engaging: my excitement skyrocketed as soon as the first 10 people got introduced in episode 1 with name cards and titles and all. ahhhhhhhh, finally some good overload of my brain. what’s a good crdrama without you having to figure out who is who for 5 episodes straight.
what’s obvious very quickly is that this screams jacky chan. i knew he’s the director in advance but i think i could have come to that conclusion just by watching the series. to some degree it elevates the story by having this modern detective vibe, allowing more quick and exiting fighting scenes and giving leeway for characters to behave more freely in terms of etiquette and posture (the way Fu Meng Bo as Sui Zhou moves being the most obvious example).
on the other hand i am still struggling with the editing, the transition between the scenes being my biggest grief. so far there’s no natural flow to the shots, often scenes get tacked onto each other so that it makes sense storywise but doesn’t lend it self to good pacing (pretty much everything gets played out in full and there’s never just narration to create a picture). the style is a staccato of scenes which then weirdly get slowed down for what are supposed to be emotional highlights, which so far only focused on side characters so the weight that is lent to them is questionable e.g. the couple dying side by side: they were an important part of solving the case but i had really no emotional connection to them whatsover and didn’t really need the series to slow down that much as they also didn’t offer much character development to the main characters besides Tang Fan’s merciful heart and practical approach to things.
Speaking of Tang Fan and Suizhou: I really enjoy them! They are both layered and fun to watch and the actors really play well off each other. But tbh the series enters a bit of queer baiting territory for me. So far its very strongly hinted that there will be female love interests involved in the story so all the romantically coded moments didn’t feel very honest to me and just like fan service. If they already decided to go bromance I’d love them to do just that and not try and make it seem more than it is if the story directly negates any feelings they might have for each other in the novel.
It also lends itself to comedy but I find it hard to believe that men of their positions would be sooooo oblivious to how difficult and dangerous interactions with the court are.  There’s a tiny disbalance between how all other characters act faced with authority and they do, while there’s no narrative reason for it and just adds some comedy.
In regards to other characters: The empress dowager and consort wan are very delicious female characters. they are seasoned, intelligent and have their own goals to achieve. so far it is still up in the open if either one of them is an antagonist or simply playing the court games as everyone else. wang zhi is fabulously complicated and i was very happy that he doesn’t work in opposition with our main characters but walks between all sides to achieve his goals. really enjoy the complexity of him, however i don’t include him in the ship since it is established that he can be cruel beyond reason so that’s a no from me. i am also always happy to have a eunuch as a main character because there are just so much more interesting power struggles at play.
pei huai is my secret favourite at the moment: chaotically competent with a flair for the dramatic is someone right up my ally. as for other female characters: i am sorry to say that i am super underwhelmed. i hope aha isn’t going to appear any more because her character is just pure nonsense. we got told the whole backstory of the prostitute (i am sorry, i forgot her name - first 5 episodes rule) but while it explained the reason for her actions it didn’t give me the emotional depth that was needed. i was very much annoyed at her and surprised at the lack of competence for someone who had worked as a prostitute which requires very high social skills and was the daughter of a merchant, so had to have enjoyed some sort of education. it just felt very underdeveloped and she came and went as was needed for the story - which would be fine, but then there’s no need for a tragic slo-mo death with violins playing in the background.
speaking of violins: it is a tragedy that a series with as much money doesn’t use real recordings - i know that that’s my petpeeve but please: nothing is less emotional than an artificially produced violin sound.
now: the brilliant exception is dong’er. i love her A LOT. she is intelligent and brave and has a good amount of comedic timing and wit. her character seems to be well-rounded and well crafted. i am enjoying her very much and am super happy that she’s now the baby of the dyfunctional sui zhou/tang fan household that holds all the brain cells.
overall the cases are super fun, i like the degree of intricacy that leaves room to mystery and character development and i am always a sucker for a show that features a whole working city and also food shots. the whole city comes across as very organic and lends itself as a fantastic playground for a detective series.
i was surprised by the found family trope coming into play, but it is one of my favourites so I am absolutely here for it.
sadly the colour scheme is very dark and brownish so this series will be the worst to gif.
The english title is also all kinds of fantastically absurd and i always misread it as “the sloth of ming dynasty” which i think gives the accurate picture of a fully fed tang fan and dong’er laying lazily around while suizhou exasperatedly stands over them in an apron.
a thank you to @stebeee and @florbexter for getting me into this series, i will definitely watch on

Author Interview Part II
Another interview with one of our fabulous Trapped fic writers, this time with skuld aka @the-wintry-mizzenmast Stories written for the Collection:
The right to Thursdays
Unplanned parenthood
It takes a village to bake a cake
Not All Has Gone Astray
Interview:
How did you come into the Trapped fandom?
Indirectly through the Guardian fandom, which I was only on the periphery of, but was exposed to via @for-the-flail (Naye). At some point, I was lamenting the lack of homosexuality in Guardian and other c-fandom TV canon due to mainland Chinese censorship. I believe it was @bonibaru who told Naye about HIStory3: Trapped, and all the amazing tropes and actual queerness that it contained because it’s Taiwanese BL.
So we watched it, and were instantly delighted by how the series was basically the writers seeing how many tropes they could smash together into every episode. I fell in love with it.
I remember finishing the last episode and thinking, “Well, good thing I’m a TangFei shipper, because there’s so little for the B-couple.” Then I spent four weeks trying to think of some good ideas for TangFei fic and drawing blanks before the Househusband idea took root. And the rest is history, as they say.
Who’s your favourite character?
Jack.
I like the way he’s presented as this enigmatic trickster badass who enjoys riling up Li Zhi De, is the biggest TangFei shipper, and falls for the most innocent cinnamon roll in the Criminal Investigation Division. ...And he’s stacked, to boot. What is there not to love about Jack?
What’s your favourite trope?
My two favorite tropes of all time are Found Family and Enemies-to-Lovers, and both of the main couples fulfill these incredibly well in the Trapped storyline.
And then there’s other things that they just put in there for pure fun, like handcuffed together, having to huddle in an abandoned hut for warmth, the huge amounts of hurt/comfort with Meng Shao Fei and Tang Yi. I mean, this series is a Greatest Hits of everybody’s favorite tropes.
What do you like about writing for Trapped?
That it’s such a rich, open world, and that there are so many possibilities. Trapped has done such a good job at depicting just a short slice of what you know is an ongoing story. The writers give you just enough direction to let your imagination soar.
You know that Tang Yi and Meng Shao Fei have clashed multiple times in the past, and you know that everything will be fine going forward at the end, even though Tang Yi turns himself over to justice. You know that Jack is a mercenary who has been in the employ of Interpol for some time, and that he quits his dangerous lifestyle to be Zhao Zi’s househusband. You know that Andy and Dr. Jiang have been friends with Tang Yi for years, but we don’t know how they met, how those friendships formed, what they’ve been through together.
There is so much that we know that happens, but we never get to see, meaning that there are huge, empty spaces to play around in everybody’s pasts and everybody’s futures. And that is what I love so much about writing for Trapped. It strikes the right balance to spark creativity.
Care to elaborate on your writing process?
I usually start with an idea or a scene that I want to write, something that I want to play with or something I think is fun that I want to show the reader. Then I flesh out around that. Sometimes I will write an outline and then start writing, or sometimes I will just start off with ‘Jack/ZZ PWP’ and see where the characters take me.
I always try to hammer out a first draft without worrying about editing or if it’s any good, before I then start going through the whole thing for a round of edits or rewrites. Once I feel confident enough in what I have, I’ll send it off to my betas, just to catch anything egregious idea-wise or pacing that I may have overlooked. Having this outside perspective is essential, and is good reinforcement for what a writer is doing right, and what a writer might need to improve.
Your favourite Trapped fic by another author?
It’s difficult for me to pick just one, because everybody who writes in the fandom brings a different perspective, style, and ideas that they want to play with, but there are some amazing, cute, and fun fics out there being written by bonibaru, florbexter, issen4, micuko, stebeee, and weilongfu.
What do you want to write but never had the nerve to?
I love cars and motoring, and am a big fan of the Fast & Furious film franchise, so I would love to write Jack and Zhao Zi starring in an action blockbuster with fast cars, sense-defying stunts, and mayhem. We never really get to see Jack pull out all the stops in Trapped itself (Meng Shao Fei gets to hog almost all the fight choreography), so I’d really like to explore the boundaries of Jack’s physical capabilities and his emotional scars.
I always second-guess myself on this idea, because is there anybody else in fandom who would want to read something like this?
But after the reveal in the Fast 9 trailer, I’ve realized that I’m not the only one familiar with the saga nor the only one with a penchant for speed.
So, this could happen, because I might have a headcanon where Jack has previously spent a year working undercover for Interpol in Tokyo...
If you want, please share a snippet of your current Trapped WIP!
Jack did his best to hide a smile as he heard the soft slide of Zhao Zi’s bare feet on the stairs. He continued slicing a block of tofu into a neat, regular dice, keeping one eye on the pot of water on the stove, almost at a boil. He set his knife down and reached for the head of bok choy lying next to the cutting board, whirling around just as Zhao Zi approached.
Jack tapped the leafy greens gently against his boyfriend’s forehead. “Gotcha.”
Zhao Zi batted them aside. His lips protruded in an exaggerated pout, his plan to sneak up on Jack foiled. “I could’ve sworn I had you.”
Jack chuckled. “Nice try, but my instincts aren’t that rusty yet.” He raised an eyebrow as he noted that Zhao Zi had descended the stairs with naught but a towel around his waist, but he turned back around anyway, letting Zhao Zi’s arms wrap around him from behind. “Lunch is almost ready.”
Zhao Zi’s embrace tightened. “Mm, I can think of something better than food,” he whispered, his breath warm against Jack’s ear.
Jack craned his neck to regard his lover with suspicion. “Okay, who are you, and what have you done with my Zhao Li An?”
“Jaaaack!” Zhao Zi’s voice was plaintive above the water boiling in the stainless steel pot. “I’m trying to seduce you here.”
“And I’m trying to play hard to get.” Jack put the bok choy down on the cutting board and switched off the stove. “Is it working?”
Thank you so much @the-wintry-mizzenmast for taking part in this interview!

6 years????? omg I didn't expect that! I hope nothing tragic happened :\ I think when there were first news of this season it was supposed to be something about a couple reconnecting and remembering their youth romance or something like that but I thought that was forgotten. Kinda wish more episodes were dedicated to it and not them springing this surprise on us in the last 2 episodes. It'll be nice to see where everyone is at their life though.
omg anonnnn i can’t do this!!!! honestly the car accident/tragic/amnesia story arc is too much to do in the next 40-60 minutes of episodes next week, but honestly, history has always excelled in giving me like story plots that i do not want - and yeah that’s why everyone in the beginning there were a lot of people wondering if this would be tragic, and @florbexter keeps reminding me to keep sane because history has never done tragic endings so why would they start now?! BUT HONESTLY THEY PULLING A FAST ONE IN THE LAST TWO EPS or something?!!! i’m sure it’s the editing, they’re doing this purposely, but something definitely happened that’s not our usual fluff and happiness galore between the both of them and it kills me that their relationship isn’t as good as before for some reason?!!! I DIDN’T SIGN UP FOR THIS POSSIBLE ANGST?!!!
and flor has also reminded me that wayne told fans that they’d be happy with the ending so crossing my fingers, I DIDN’T EVEN FEEL THIS MUCH ANXIETY WITH TRAPPED? HOW COULD THEY BREAK UP MY XI GU AND HAO TING? WHAT IS THIS?
yes really very excited to finally get a glimpse also of the progress on zhi gang and sun bo’s side honestly, but hao ting being SAD AF IS NOT A GOOD LOOK
honestly they can’t do an amnesia arc + xi gu remembering and a happy ending in 40 min THEY CAN’T what the hell is going on i can’t even concentrate on giffing today’s ep rn

8 PEOPLE I’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER
i was tagged by the very awesome @howdydowdy - thanks hon!
ONE /  name / alias. Ali. It’s technically my nickname but I’ve always preferred it to my full name and it’s what I mostly go by.
TWO  /  birthday. November.
THREE  /  zodiac sign. Scorpio... with Scorpio rising! I don’t put too much stock in horoscopes but yeah, apparently I’m about as Scorpio as you can get!
FOUR  /  height.  5′10″
FIVE  /  hobbies. Singing (I’m a member of Rock Choir), drawing and painting. papercraft, writing fanfic, watching kdrama/cdrama, learning Mandarin
SIX  /  favourite colors. Changes from day to day but I tend to gravitate towards shades of either blue, red or purple
SEVEN /  favourite books. Oooh so many. All of Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar books. The Belgariad and the Mallorean series by David Eddings. ANYTHING by Iain Banks/Iain M Banks (but especially his sci-fi novels publishes under Iain M Banks). The Six of Crows duology and Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
EIGHT  /  last song listened to. Because I have children and we have Amazon Echos and they like to say “listen to this song, mummy!” it was Discord by The Living Tombstone. *sigh*
NINE  /  last film watched. Captain Marvel. I’d already seen it at the cinema but the kids hadn’t seen it so we watched it on Amazon Prime at the weekend with the kids and BIL.
TEN  /  inspiration for muse.  I don’t really know what this means? But if you’re talking about what inspires me to create, like fanfic or fanart, then it’s primarily a) whump and b) pretty men, or ideally a combination of the two. The one thing guaranteed to get me writing fanfic for a show is if it’s whumpy. :D
ELEVEN  /  dream job. Ideally, if I could be paid/make a good living from either singing, writing, or making art, I would be in heaven. More realistically, I’d probably be great at and enjoy some kind of editing role as I’m damn good at admin and am a helpless grammar pedant. I did a few years back see a job that would have been perfect for me... it was an assistant editor on a papercrafting magazine and they wanted someone with excellent English language/grammar skills and good knowledge of papercrafting (and at the time I was BIG into papercrafting) and honestly it would have been so perfect for me... but sadly it was in completely the wrong part of the country. *sigh*
TWELVE /  meaning behind your url. It’s basically my online name. It’s a name I made up a looooong time ago (from my nickname Ali and peeps, for people, I guess? I dunno) and it’s the username I use for just about any online account. Only once has the name already been taken when I’ve gone to set up an account so if you find an Alipeeps online, it’s 99.9% likely to be me.
Okay soooo I’m gonna tag (but no pressure, join in if you want to): @stebeee, @kdramawhump, @redfeathered, @sarah-yyy, @florbexter, @randomingoftherandomness, @katishideout, and @terrijo2
