I've been so incredibly curious about Cash Black! If you're taking asks for the OC details game --
🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace?
aaaa thank you! i have Cash in both the Mortal Kombat universe and in Fallout: New Vegas, for these asks i'll do FNV Cash!
"🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?"
so Cash is naturally a fidgeter! i headcanon she has adhd(bc i have it lol), so she's always fiddling with something between her fingers when she's trying to concentrate - usually a cigarette, but also lighters, bullets, small guns, even cutlery when she's eating!
one of her other biggest quirks is living to get on people's nerves. she loves to try the patience of people around her, and will push buttons for fun. she especially likes to practice harmonica around the campfire when Boone is trying to sleep. she will let ED-E chase Arcade around(in my headcanon, ED-E just wants to be friends with Arcade the way he is with Cash lol; this was inspired by one playthrough where i watched Arcade run from ED-E on the roller coaster tracks in Primm lmao), she likes to get huggy when she's drunk to her entire crew(they travel as a caravan-style group in my headcanon), and she especially loves to fuck with stuffy NCR high-ranks like Cassandra Moore and Thomas Hildern. she's the human embodiment of annoyance when she finds it funny lmao.
"🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace?"
Cash was born in rural post-War Nevada! her first few years were out on a remote homestead with her birth parents. she ended up orphaned through circumstance and was found wandering the desert by her adoptive father, Richard "Pops" Black, a caravan guard. for the rest of her childhood and teen years, she traveled between the Nevada trade routes and the Big Circle in NCR territory with her Pops, and many other routes after his passing, her brief stint in the Scorpions gang, and her time as a courier pre-Benny. She's most comfortable out in the Mojave where she grew up, and after the events of FNV, she tends to stick close to the Mojave, as she considers the roads out there her home.
thanks so much for asking about Cash! i love her so much and im currently learning how to setup mods on PC so i can finally do a proper Cash Black FNV playthrough the way i've always wanted it to go!!! i have a post that goes into more detail of her life and choices during the course of the game here, and of course i have my "fnv cash" tag full of specific info about her story as well as memes that remind me of her! and of course her masterlist, if you wanna learn about her in MKverse! thank you so much for the asks :D

I intended to make a sequel to my “Michigan in Fallout” post by coming up with ideas on what people could to do for Tennessee, where I live now, but for the life of me I could not come up with anything that FNV or 76 didn’t already do.
A group of Dolly Parton and/or Johnny Cash worshippers? Too much like the Kings.
Groups fighting over the Tennessee Valley Authority (which provides power to the region)? Too much like the Hoover Dam conflict, especially since the TVA also has a dam.
Country music everywhere? Both FNV and 76 have a lot of it.
That’s all I’ve got 😭 except… Tennessee and Kentucky have a lot of caves that you could put all sorts of things in, not just Vaults. You can hold concerts in caves if they’re big enough.
It’s embarrassing how little I can think of when I’ve lived here for nearly half my life, anyone else with ideas can chip in.

anyway i hate honest hearts. on top of being overtly racist to rhe point where it's hardly worth discussing in depth because of how overt it is it just has the weakest writing of the dlcs and also does not fit the tune of the others. dead money, old world blues, and lonesome road are all very clearly about letting go of the past. dead money's whole tagline is to let go of the sierra madre, old world blues is about scientists still clinging to their notoriety in life and the kind of world that was here before (and they're terrible people i want that to be said explicitly they were all awful people), and lonesome road's other courier blames you for what happened here to the point he can hardly bring himself to leave. he's stuck in this place that is dead because he is angry. so what does honest hearts add to that narrative?

i’m about halfway through Cash’s journey through the Lonesome Road DLC. idk if i’m going to do a full writeup like i did the other three, bc that story is a bit more nuanced and her and Ulysses’ relationship is.... incredibly complicated. there’s a lot going on there. i may write something at the very end about those two specifically, but outside of Ulysses forcing Cash to launch a nuke to progress in the story, the journey to Ulysses’ Temple is less important than how the two characters compare and contrast, to me.

Highkey considering making modern verse Saskia some sort of... self-appointed, self-righteous Bringer Of Justice TM. I was thinking about how her actions / morals / behavior / everything translates in a modern setting, and. Well. She’s far from a beacon of exemplary conduct, although she has a very strong moral code that she follows rigorously. I imagine she goes after particularly Nasty people that either escape the law or are allowed to go unpunished. Much like in her normal witcher verse, she’s deadly and efficient but prone to outbursts of fury, which cloud her thinking sometimes and she gets sloppy. She works entirely alone and never gets anyone else involved in her plans. Her line of thinking is basically “if you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world remains the same, but if you kill ten killers, it goes down.”
