“So…when is the wedding ceremony?” Jughead asks through a mouthful of mini crab cake. “Or…do they not do vows the second time, since they already broke the first ones?”

“They did that yesterday. Courthouse.” Rising onto her tiptoes, Veronica rests one hand on his shoulder for balance and narrows her eyes as she scopes out the other side of the room. She’s been distracted ever since they arrived, fending off a series of handshakes and how-are-you’s from the blandly attractive 50- and 60-somethings in suits who make up most of the gathered crowd.

Jughead chews his crab cake slowly, deep in thought. “So…today is just…saying ‘I do’?”

(Jughead is recently divorced, and he keeps running into Betty Cooper at weddings. AU.)

bughead is like. Bug head. the thing about them is that they watch true crime docs as romantic dates and they give each other weird stick and pokes and they piss off their parents and sometimes betty is like "i had a dream that i killed someone and enjoyed it" and jughead is like "hot i'll put that in my next novel" and copy editing each others work is flirting. and crucially they are a weird and incredibly non-touchy couple and the most i ever believed they were in heterosexual love was when they made out after setting fire to a drug lab.

i made the mistake of checking the comments on riverdales instagrams post about tabitha and so many people were saying that tabitha brings nothing to the show. i’m sorry, are we talking about the same tabitha tate? the one who saved riverdale twice, once on her own at the last minute? the tabitha tate who gave up everything with the one she had fallen in love with so that he could at least be happy in the new reality and went on to work out how she could save riverdale again by herself for however long it would take? what makes me so sad is that i know if tabitha had come to riverdale and had just helped jughead get back with betty and went on to date reggie everyone would love her and worship her. literally what happened with jopaz is just happening with tabitha and people don’t like her and find her a worthless character because she dated jughead and he’s happy with someone who helped heal him and get over someone who broke his heart. but whatever. let’s imagine a riverdale without tabitha. do you see it? yeah everyone’s dead and season 7 is the sweet hereafter. what a season to go out on without tabitha. percival also would have taken riverdale over so like. shut up.

a shot in the dark, chapter 6

Resolute, she sets her jaw. “We can treat the wound and burn out the infection.”

Jughead winces, but exhales when his face curves into her hand. “Raise my fever?”

Betty nods. “Only a little. The fever is your body fighting. We could make it fight just enough for it to win, and thus it may break.”

“Perhaps,” he licks his lips, wishing he had the strength to sit up. “I’m rather partial to the idea of you slowly and tenderly nursing me back to health.” 

Her smile is reluctant, but she can’t hide it all the way. He wishes he could tug it all the way loose. 

“Perhaps you ought to like the idea of living long enough to keep running from the half blind bounty hunter and Texas Marshall looking for us,” she tuts, turning and standing already to make preparations. 

Jughead feels suddenly like a child. That foreign, desperate yearning for affection. No one ever tended to him then, and he wants to be less foolish than that now. Instead, his eyes fall closed and he’s remembering last night. The soft fever of her kiss, the way she begged—everything feels like a dream. Not in the poetic sense, but faded and foggy. He’s awoken to Betty on mission, and this mission did not seem to include stripping off his clothing, much to Jughead’s dismay.

“You’re going to sweat quite a bit.”

I’ll never forgive RAS for having a serial killer convention with Jughead Jones nowhere in sight. Betty & Jughead 100% have a Reddit fan club & people would be STOKED to see them, especially in the town where all the murders took place.

RAS keeping Bughead apart during this episode is because it would have actually been clever & fun can’t have that this season while also having the emotional grounding they bring to one another.
