57 years ago today...
"Batman" premiered on ABC TV, January 12th, 1966. The series quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Children were able to watch it as a straight adventure series, while adults could appreciate it's camp sensibilities and dead-pan humor. The series had a colorful pop art style that was unlike anything else on TV. The series also had a huge impact on sales of Batman comics, as well comic books in general, and helped launch Batman into his current status as the most popular comic book character of all time.
The series was originally intended to be an hour long, but ABC only had two half-hour time slots available, so the episodes were split in two. Which the first part of the Episode would leave our Dynamic Duo in a cliff hanger for the BATFAN’s to stay tuned into the the second part of the story and wonder how their Heroes will escape from the rogues gallery of villains
Batman ran three seasons 120 Episodes and the
series spun-off a motion picture in 1966 featuring most of the TV cast.
Principal Cast
Adam West as Batman/Bruce Wayne
Burt Ward as Robin/Dick Grayson
Alan Napier as Alfred

The other things which made this Live Action TV Series Great was the Bat gadgets such as the Ironic Batmobile which was designed and built George Barris using 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car he had purchased from Ford for $1.00. Ford had used it for many years to promote "the car of tomorrow"
And Mr Barris had only three weeks and $15,000 (US) to turn it into the Batmobile, which included adding a Ford Galaxy chassis
Even to when people see the Original TV Batmobile it turns heads it’s the most Famous car from TV and film History
This past last year we lost the legend Batman himself Mr Adam West 9th June, 2017 at the age of 88
I was so grateful to had meet Mr West while attending LA Comic Con 2016 I was able to have a few laughs with the Man himself who was a kind and friendly gentleman it only lasted a short time meet and greet but I will never forget it as I Met My BATMAN
Mr West will live on as he made TV History and worldwide fans young and old and he will always be in our heart

This Week’s Horrible-Scopes
It’s time for this week’s Horrible-Scopes! So for those of you that know your Astrological Signs, cool! If not, just pick one, roll a D12, or just make it up as you go along. It really doesn’t matter.
This week is inspired by one of the greatest new wave, punk, and dance-rock bands of the late 20th century…. ZZ TOP! –more specifically their car, the 1933 Ford Coupe, the ZZ Mobile!
Aries
You get to be matched up with the inglorious vehicle that was called, “A Mailbox On Wheels”. In Europe it was the “Zastava Koral”, otherwise known in North America as… The Yugo. Yes it was built in Yugoslavia, but it started its life being designed in Italy for Fiat. And just like the Yugo of old, and there are very FEW Old Yugos, just because you aren’t doing well now, doesn’t mean you don’t have a history to be proud of. This week, learn to speak in sign language. Not Italian Sign Language!
Taurus
You’re older than people think, but still got plenty of pep in you if you’re given a little extra work. In 1984’s “Ghostbusters”, Ecto-1 was 25 years old - and you looked better at that age. All you’ll need to get spruced up are knee replacements, hangnail removal, a pedicure, hot-oil massage, new glasses, gastric bypass, tush implants... maybe a new diet, also vocal lessons, a little psychological counseling.... And you’ll be right as rain!
Gemini
When we say “Smokey and the Bandit”, you probably think of the 1976 Pontiac Trans Am and its gold firebird painted on the front. But you know who was more important? The Snowman and Fred in their Kenworth W900A short-frame semi barreling down the road, smashing that last 4 miles of an 18-hundred mile trip like an absolute legend! And just like Bandit-2, this week you’ll be finishing every project at the last minute in class!
Cancer Moon-Child
Speaking of tractor-trailers, what’s THE MOST iconic tractor-trailer you can think of? That’s right; Optimus Freekin’ Prime! In the 80’s he was a  Freightliner FL86, but in the 2007 live-action movie he was changed to a Peterbilt 379. Now, a year earlier, in the movie “Cars”, Lightning calls out for “Mac”, but he mistakes Jerry for his ride. Jerry is a Peterbilt 352. So is Jerry the ancestor of Optimus Prime? OH! Right! Your ‘Scope. Uhm… Watch more older movies.
Leo
The only way the 1948 Ford Deluxe Convertible from Grease could fly was either in a dream sequence or off a cliff. And considering it was refurbished by a bunch of high school gearheads in their school’s automotive shop class, I think we know which one is more likely. This week let loose all your inhibitions when you dream and fly that car into the skies. It’ll be your one true escape from the rest of the crap going on around you.
Virgo
Launched in 1976, the Lotus Esprit S1 wasn’t much of a splash… until it was driven underwater by James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me. And just like the Esprit you won’t show off how good you are until you’re shoved, unwillingly, underwater. In other words, take a shower this weekend!.
Libra
Semi-Sentient, capable of driving itself, with a love of playing practical jokes, skipping across water, and armed with super-speed, shooting oil, your car, with California License Plate “OFP 857” wasn’t a racer, but it beat every car it was pitted against. This week, check your biases - because we’re referring to “Herbie the Love Bug”, and not the Knight Industries Two-Thousand.
Scorpio
You’re being paired with, arguably, THE singularly Most Iconic of iconic vehicles: the 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura; otherwise known to Millions upon Millions as THE Batmobile. Sadly you’re not nearly as easy to remember, but let’s be fair… compared to that car, who is? This week your memory is going to be sketchy, so start putting labels on anything and everything you think might be important. Things like the Atomic Reactor Pile in the Batcave… YEAH! The Batcave had a nuclear reactor in it! Meaning if The Penguin had grabbed a Geiger Counter, it would have been Game Over! Kinda like how Lex Luthor followed Superman in 1980’s “Superman II”.
Sagittarius
Just to piss off Scorpio, YOU’RE getting paired with the OTHER Batmobile, The Tumbler. Just like that… “car”? –you’re not as flashy, or as visible, or as tricked out with signage, but you are dark, got an unmistakable growl just before you pounce, and my… GOD! You can bite through someone that’s in your way! This week embrace your moods and enjoy the nightlife on your own terms. And, yes - capes after 8pm is a Fashion Do.
Capricorn
Back in the day the DeLorean DMC-12 from “Back To The Future” already had a checkered image. John DeLorean was charged with cocaine trafficking to earn some money for his failing company, but was found not guilty. Hence the joke; Why should you never drive behind a DeLorean? Because it keeps inhaling the whte lines in the middle of the road. This week you’re going to be dealing with someone making bad comments about you. Start thinking up disarming jokes now..
Aquarius
Your mood is gunna suck this week. For that reason alone you’re head-to-bumper with the 1958 Plymouth Fury known as “Christine”. Or was it the  Belvedere? Or the Savoy? Truth is, it was ALL of them, and just like that your mood is going to be all over the road. The best you can do to mitigate it is get sleep, eat good meals, and for Chrissakes… Stop being a stalker! It’s over!
Pisces
You aren’t the most famous one on this list, but you are personally memorable for those that ever interacted with you. Just like the 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe with its front and rear triangle windows, T-Stick transmission shifter, and desire to just gallop on the highway, you will have people wanting to try to keep pace with you, just to watch you work. Cool people don’t look back at explosions, and cooler people ignore the fans. Your disinterest will make you MORE attractive.
And THOSE are your Hobble-Scopes for this week! Remember if you liked what you got, we’re obviously not working hard enough at these. BUT! If you want a better or nastier one for your own sign or someone else’s, all you need to do to bribe me is just Let Me Know! These will be posted online at the end of each week via Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and Discord.

1955 Lincoln Futura: The '66 Batmobile's Secret Identity
The 1955 Lincoln Futura was a one-off, a concept car that demonstrated Ford Motor Company's space-age imagination. And in a way, it did come from the future. A decade later, the Futura became the most famous car on TV as the Batmobile, driven by Adam West's not-so-Dark Knight on the campy Batman series. Indeed, the Lincoln Futura is better known as the Batmobile than it ever was as the Futura.
A Time Of Optimism And Technical Innovation
In the mid-1950s, Americans saw a limitless future ahead of them. It was the so-called Atomic Age, and there was a sense that science was changing our lives faster than ever, and for the better, and Ford’s concept car, the Lincoln Futura, embodied that optimistic spirit.
The Atomic Age or mid-century aesthetic often found inspiration in science fiction. Kitchen appliances looked more and more like robots, chandeliers looked like molecules, and cars aspired to be spaceships.
The Futura was designed by Bill Schmidt and John Najjar. It was hand-built by Ghia in Turin, Italy at a cost of $250,000 or more than $2.3 million in 2019 dollars.
The Lincoln Futura Becomes The Batmobile
In 1965, 20th Century Fox contracted Barris to create the car for the television show Batman, but he was only given three weeks and $15,000 to do so. He decided to work with the Futura, modifying it so that it could appear on the show. The modifications were simple: the fin was extended to the windshield, bat-details were added, and it was painted black with fluorescent cerise trim. The customizing crew also added gadgets, such as the “jet drive,” which was simply a butane tank, and the chain cutter that popped out of the car’s nose.

THE 1955 LINCOLN FUTURA: A CONCEPT CAR THAT WOULD GO ON TO BE THE BATMOBILE
At the 1955 Chicago Auto Show the Ford Motor Company showed the Lincoln Futura concept car, a decade later it would be driven by Adam West as Batman.
Jason Hassett posted in ALL CLASSICS In 1954 the Ford Motor Company wanted to create a futuristic concept car for the Chicago Auto Show the following year. They commissioned two of their designers Bill Schmidt, who was an expert on concept cars, and John Najjar, the lead mustang designer, to create it. Once they designed the car it was sent to Ghia in Italy to be hand built at a small fee of $250,000 which is around $2.4 million in today's money.

The concept car which was unveiled at the 1955 Chicago Auto Show
It had some odd features like the large headlight pods and double canopy for the cabin, similar to the one Homer designed in the Simpsons. This concept car was also fully operational, it had a 368 cubic inch Lincoln engine and the Chassis was from a Lincoln Continental Mark II.
The concept was a success, getting much publicity at the show and also on the Today Show in March of 1955. They made a model kit and toy to sell from it. The headlights, grill and tail-fins would be subdued and appear on a few different Lincolns, Mercury's and Fords from 1957 to 1960.

A replica made in the 1990s by Bob Butts
The concept car was sold to George Barris, an auto customizer who supplied cars to films, by the Ford Motor Company for $1 and "Other Valuable Consideration". The car sat behind his shop for several years until 1965 when Dean Jefferies couldn't deliver a Batmobile for ABC in time and Barris was called instead. He thought the fins on the back of the Futura would be ideal for the Batmobile as wings and set to work.
Three more replicas of the car were build from Ford Galaxies and Thunderbird's over the years the show was running for the show circuit. Barris cleverly kept the rights to the car even after its conversion and leased the car to the show for the entirety of its run.
In 2013, Barris auctioned the car in Scottsdale, Arizona to Rick Champagne for a cool $4.62 million dollars.

Batmobile 2022 should be called The Knight Rider. Here’s Why
Matt Reeves knows the history of Batmobile. He understands why it remains one of the most sought after vehicle in the world of pop-culture as well as comics
He and his team ensured that the vehicle lives up to fans expectations. The movie is a super hit, and orders for die-cast and R/C versions are already going up
What did they do right?
Throughout its history most of Batmobile models have been inspired by famous supercars and muscle cars. From European giants like Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar to American Muscle Cars such as Lincoln Futura and Ford Mustang to the Chevy Stingray. BatmobileHistory.com has all the info you need
There have also been Batmobiles that have no connection with our reality such as Jim Lee’s Batmobile 2000 or Frank Miller’s version from TDKR but in case of The Batman movie, it’s not just the design being inspired by glorious muscle cars of the past but also a strong reference for 80s kids such as myself
The vehicle reminds me of Dodge Charger from above while its front is straight out of a Dodge Challenger but what is there in between the headlights that makes it even more special: The famous Red Scanning Light. Any 80s kid would know that it’s inspired by K.I.T.T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since our favorite superhero is also known as The Dark Knight, I thought why not name Batmobile 2022 as The Knight Rider as both names have the word ‘Knight’ in common, both are American made cars and both are in black
