#Repost @thefreeblackwomenslibrary with @repostapp ・・・ 15 year old Bresha Meadows, the young girl in Ohio who ended up shooting and killing her violent abusive father with his own gun was offered a plea deal today, all of the exact details are not being revealed but what I have gathered from reading multiple articles is that it would require her to spend 18 months in jail on an aggravated murder charge, she has been locked up for 9 months already so she would only need to do 9 more months and she would do them in a mental health facility as opposed to jail or juvenile detention where she is now. This is semi good news because if it goes well, it means she would be in a much safer environment working with folks who have distinct knowledge around PTSD, trauma, depression and the long lasting effects of violent abuse. Those who are familiar with her case might remember she was on suicide watch for a few months. I consider it semi good news because I feel like she has been in jail long enough. She's been locked up since age 14 and the man she shot terrorized the entire family and beat her mom bloody for several years. Her mother was in and out of hospitals for over a decade and could not figure out how to escape his wrath. Her case goes to trial May 22 but if the plea is accepted she won't have to go to trial and her record will be sealed or expunged after she serves her time. So now they are negotiating this childs future and I'm hoping that the end result is her being given a well deserved chance at happiness and the ability to live a "normal" life with her family.
