Would you write about the relationship between humans and old machines/broken machines? More specifically ones that we are found of -Ed

omg ogdfhgfdjhjkkhjdfjksdfkjdfjkdj so i'm not sure if i can give you what you're asking for because this is not at all my area of expertise or thinking but i'm going to talk about it a bit anyway

there's a big difference between old machines and broken machines!!! one can be old and broken, but it can also be old and work fine, or new and broken (something we're seeing more and more often). i'm gonna talk about all three!

i'm assuming u mean "fond of", and i can't speak for anyone else, so i'm going to talk about the machines i love.

machines that are both old and broken are often left behind and recycled for parts. on first glance this is sad!!!! on second glance, though, this is awesome!!! old technology that can no longer fulfill it's old purpose is given new life in a new form, evolving alongside us and with our help.

one sad thing is when technology that has become obsolete leads to things becoming inaccessible. this is where conservation efforts come in! just like books, programs and old machines need to be archived. there are archives everywhere to prevent these old machines from being lost to time. their history is our history - we need to know where they came from and how we have evolved alongside them. old tech is history, and like history it's not lost, merely changed. we can still feel the impact of old technology on our current machines today.

machines that are old and still work well, such as my kindle paperwhite (shoutout to my baby, you could survive a nuclear war), are visions of timeless beauty to me. many things just don't go out of style. like a simple suit or a thank you note, some machines are older, integral parts of our culture. this is technology that is robust and built to last. this is technology that shows the resilience we have worked hard to encode into it's fragile body.

talking specifically about my kindle, i think of it like an old friend. i'm often terrified by the breakneck speed of new technology. i've gone through more machines engineered to fail in the decade plus i've had this thing. this is solid technology as it should be.

machines that are new and broken give me two impressions: one of the impressions is that of a french bulldog bred to far to breathe properly, meeting an early death for "beauty"'s sake. the other is a toddler walking and stumbling across the floor, falling again and again but getting up every time. it all depends on how the technology is treated and why it is broken.

if a phone dies in a couple years because the company made it so that would happen, i'm going with bulldog. if the program fails because it's made by an amateur who's trying hard to make it work, i'm going with toddler. do you get it? how it makes sense? if you treat that technology well, this broken new thing could turn into a working old thing. you could bring it to life for decades. but so many companies refuse. and it sucks.

i'm not sure if this is what you're looking for?? but there are my thoughts off the cuff!!! most of my thoughts are about working technology and technology as it's used in art so i have no idea what i'm doing here but wkhjdgfhjkdfhjkg
