“Never mind that! You look beautiful! Right, Illya?”

“It’s true, Mama!” Illyasviel left the brush stuck in Taiga’s hair and ran to Irisviel, checking her dress. “Can I go too?

“I’m sorry, sweetie.” Irisviel poked her nose. “This is for work. I’ll take somewhere nice next time!”

“Aw… But I want to go! I’m always stuck with grownups! It’s boring!”

“Gah! Illyasviel, how could you…?” Taiga clutched her chest, betrayed by the child’s cruel words. “Well, good news! I picked a babysitter for you today because I have a date!”

“Hello. I’m the babysitter.” Illya opened the door, and Irisviel’s eyes widened.

“You…” Irisviel frowned. “I thought you worked for the restaurant-”

“I have multiple jobs.” Shirou sighed. Why did he keep running into these people? “Uh.. Fujinee told me that I was going to babysit a young girl, so I brought a friend with me in case I made her uncomfortable.”

“Hello.” Rin waved her hand. “I’m Rin Tohsaka. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Ah, that’s reassuring. I’m Irisviel von Einzbern…” Irisviel froze. Tohsaka? TOHSAKA?! Tokiomi Tohsaka’s daughter is going to babysit HER daughter?

If she remembered correctly, Tokiomi is on the company’s blacklist. Artoria’s instructions are never to accept any calls or offers from him.

mmmm i wouldn’t say emiya alter is insane, because he’s perfectly sane he’s just very badly broken as a person. im sure that’s what you meant, but i just wanted to say on the blog that the choices he makes are extremely deliberate and in context logical

there is absolutely nothing that alter does without a logical reason for it.

what he’s doing is a very bad form of coping. just like in ubw archer’s goal was to kill shirou to get him to give up on his ideals and therefore keep him from becoming a counter force agent, emiya alters goal is to do that inwardly to himself. his goal is to eradicate himself down to losing everything that makes him a person, not because he’s insane, but because he knows he will always be a counter force agent and he feels that the best way to be this agent whose job is to see horrible realities and commit violence within them, is to erase himself until all that’s left is an unfeeling weapon

the actual thing that broke him was the amount of people he had to kill in order to reach kiara. he was already a vulnerable and shattered person by the time he was able to reach her-- because of kiara, he had been forced to kill a lot of people he knew. nasu said in extra mats he’d had to kill fujinee, who he recognized as his sibling, and her child. that’s a lot of what did the breaking, and kiara did afterwards what cult leaders to best, which is manipulate the malleable. nothings more malleable than someone in the very depths of self-hate and despair

so moon cell kiara is able to immediately shatter servant alter’s sense of self (but not his willpower! he does keep a good amount of his will, as evidenced in the very end of the seraphix story. the one thing emiya alter has in spades is sheer stubbornness) but the kiara that alter knew first didn’t break him by herself

he started the cracks, she just dug her fingers in and splintered it more. and to his credit, he did still end up killing her. and he still has willpower in abundance, which is why he’s stuck with the decision that “i need to be like this, cold logic and the willingness to kill, and i need to not be a ‘person’” ever since

not to say kiara isnt a fucking nightmare, but is to say that alter has a level of agency in his own destruction

Rewatched Heavens Feel again and I can’t help but rewatch Fujinee look at the old pictures. Specifically Shinji and Shirou. From the pictures, Shinji appeared to have been a nice kid that enjoyed having fun and was a good friend to Shirou. It paints him like a good person and possibly a good older brother to Sakura. On screen, not the case obviously. But it makes you wonder: Was he always like this? Or was he, “POSSIBLY”, a good older brother to Sakura before shit got bad? Zouken’s behind it?

what essentially happens is. sakura is introduced to the matou family early on, shinji’s indifferent about it until zouken makes it clear that sakura is to be the one to inherit the matou legacy. shinji’s bitterness towards the whole mess and stress that he could never live up to zouken’s expectations boils over and since he cant take his anger out on zouken, he takes it out on sakura and it just escalates from there. even going as far as sexual abuse out of spite for his falsified image of sakura thinking she’s better than him and that she should know her place. bottom line it’s zouken’s fault but shinji���s also going to hell for coming to his own choices and conclusions.
