My comments on first chapter of Best of luck Mimi @saint-kiriwo
It's our thing. Non-canon but such a sweet story ❤️ Honestly, my first time seeing a character with a dimple 😍 that's because Mimi really has it.(I've seen her IRL)
Tumblr media
Hmm. He cleverly hid the rule. so Goemon doesn't want Mimi to find out about his face. Interesting. That means they're either not close enough for him to disclose that matter to Mimi or he's afraid he might lose a very loyal ally.

i bet you were insufferable as a child
and since we know this about lupin and jigen for a fact we’re actually just gonna focus on the other three for now! yippee!! the "tms forgot i exist" special lineup!
fujiko:
i know she was a weird girl. i KNOW this bitch had a gigantic bookshelf filled with all the standard cute, girly beginner chapter books, but also those big fucking scholastic book fair pretend spy kits and shit. i don’t think she was ever the “play in the dirt and come home covered in grass stains and mud” type of kid, mostly because it just felt gross to her, but i DO think she was completely unhinged in an indoors sense. the kind of child who just starts talking your ear off acting like they know everything there is to know about frogs because they read one book so OBVIOUSLY they know ALL about FROGS!!
absolutely adored those cheap horrible nail polish sets where the brush is the size of a q-tip swab. she also chewed on her nails though, so imagine the standard tiny hand with thin, watery, glittery purple polish on just the roundest, bluntest nails possible. that same hand is also thinking really hard about how to best pocket your coin purse though so like,
i think she had siblings. she was in the perfect spot where she wasn’t in the league with the older, more achieved kids, but wasn’t young enough to be babied and spoiled like the little ones. which takes quite a strange toll on you growing up. it’s why her demeanor now tends to go between taking advantage of the fact a lot of people don’t expect anything from her, to “why are you ignoring me?! what’s that about!!”
fujiko def developed her evil selfgaining tendencies before she even left the fifth grade. if you think she’s difficult to bargain with NOW, imagine what she was like in middle school when [pogs/pokemon cards/silly bandz/insert era appropriate cafeteria currency here] was big. she went through the school system curating personal black markets. it would be impressive if she wasn’t so terrifyingly cutthroat about it
in the nicest way possible, if the stars had aligned, and by some miracle all five of them were the same exact age and met in kindergarten, she… would not have been friends with any of them. well, partially. there’s a very sharp gender divide when you’re first starting school, so i think she kind of “made friends” with nice enough girls, but she absolutely thought lupin was obnoxious, she thought goemon didn’t like her because he rarely spoke to her, jigen thought it was hilarious to antagonize her, and zenigata was just kind of whatever, like he wasn’t a jerk, but he wasn’t exceedingly nice. like he gave her a colored pencil to borrow and that was the extent of that. at best, if goemon was forced to really socialize, she and goemon would get along well enough, but that’s also because she’s bossy as HELL and goemon just goes along with whatever, even now, so ESPECIALLY back when he was an impressionable child!
goemon:
god. you know the kid that sits on the edge of the playground that the teachers all go “aw, bless his heart. just a little old soul.” poor baby goemon
i don’t really think there was as much pressure on goemon to live up to his legacy the way there was for lupin. i’ve mentioned it before, but goemon’s relationship with the original goemon is very different from lup’s relationship with his grandpa, or even dad, and it’s not just because of the time gap. goemon CHOSE to emulate his nakesake’s abilities and talents, where lupin kind of had no choice. and because of this, goemon’s transition into his current lifestyle was much more gradual. i’d say he probably only started making an effort to BE “goemonlike” when he reached his mid-to-late teens. i know hes like 17 in the og manga so if any of this contradicts that Shh no it doesn’t
his quietness wasn’t entirely the result of being shy either. he just didn’t really know what to say at most points? he was (and still is) pretty blunt, and realized pretty quickly and very naturally that people outside of his immediate family didn’t know what to make of him when he answered rhetorical questions completely honestly and sincerely. so he kinda just. retreated inward a bit. he started to get a bit more talkative as he grew, but then he committed to his training and learned the importance of “meaning every word you say” so then he started getting quiet AGAIN
you would think he would be the easiest kid to look after. uh no. even in a pre-slashy slashy era he’s very naturally destructive, which is insane given how tenderly he treats certain stuff within the house. you go “ok goemon this is my dog’s favorite food bowl. it belonged to HER mom so that’s very old for dogs.” and he gives you this exceedingly serious nod and uses both hands to slowly set it down on the ground for the dog to eat out of. but then you go “goemon is that your great great great grandfather’s handmade teapot?” and he goes “is it?” and just in the process of him setting it on the counter it has shattered in two. little man is devastated but hey nobody was drinking out of that thing anyway so just krazy glue that fucker and the tears will subside
zenigata:
is there anything at all funnier than an angry 6yo. yeah. an angry 2yo. and even funnier than that, an angry infant. he didn’t even have anything to actually be pissed about, that’s just naturally how his eyebrows sit and HAVE been his entire life. i would give up my pinky just to see even a glimpse of the absolute comedy jackpot known as his baby pictures
not a revolutionary take by any means but he was definitely the “YOU CAN’T DO THAT WE’RE GONNA GET IN TROUBLE!!” kid. however he was absolutely not even REMOTELY the “didn’t we have homework?” kid because you know damn well he never remembered to do that shit. unless he knew a kid he didn’t like ALSO didn’t do the homework, then yeah, he’d absolutely go down with the ship just to get back at the little bastard.
in that same vein he would absolutely be the easiest to babysit. “but his demeanor--” shh you are thinking too far ahead. this guy has no obligations. this guy has personal beef with like two random kids in his neighborhood. he has yet to grow a taste for calling superiors idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about. so as long as you actually tell him in plain terms “please do x” or “don’t do y because z” he’ll be fine. you tell this kid to set the table and he’s tripping over his feet putting the spoons and forks in the wrong places. also you’re just having chicken nuggets so i don’t even know why he did that. he didn’t grab plates.
do not mistake the above for him being a “good” kid because this just means he was unfortunately one of those horrible kids who are very polite in front of certain people and absolute monsters in front of those he doesn’t like. does that sound contradictory to the above bullet points? that’s just how children are. he was not a bully at any point in his life but he was so extreme with his ANTI bullying shit that he ended up in the principal’s office just as much, covered in bruises and star wars bandaids. all throughout his school years. he was still doing this shit in high school he’d overhear somebody being a douchebag and just push them off the bleachers. let ‘em fall 10 feet it builds character.

Rest in Peace
Some sad news that I don’t think has reached the Western fans as of yet. ‘Kobayashi Kiyoshi’ (小林 清志), the voice that breathed life into the character of Jigen Daisuke (次元 大介) passed away on July 30th, 2022.
Tumblr media
Thank you, Mr. Kobayashi, for your dedication and hard work. It has been both an honour and a pleasure to have had you when we did.
Below, are his words upon leaving the Lupin series almost a year prior. With no other message to share, it somehow still felt appropriate to include.
“Lupin was a lifetime job for me.
Despite the risk, I wanted to do it until I was 90 years old, but it's a shame. I wanted to hold on, but I can’t.
As I get older, there is a gap between me and the image.
It's a different story, but I was asked by Akio-chan before.
"Why did my father quit being Goemon?"
His father is ‘Chikao Otsuka’ senior. I was at a loss for answers. I'm sure the old cast were also disappointed.
Some people say that Jigen is old and hard to hear. Of course, I’m 88 years old. It's the result of my own efforts.
From now on, they will be relieved, as I'll leave the rest to Akio-chan.
Please do your best.
However, Jigen is different from those rogues. It's called living in Edo. It's a strange story, but Jigen is an Edokko.
Akio-chan, this is difficult.
The atmosphere is similar to jazz.
Finally,
I would like to thank those who have supported me so far. Thank you very much.
Lupin. I'm leaving.
Goodbye.”
— Kiyoshi Kobayashi

-chinhands- Can you tell us more about your thoughts on FuJigen? :3
-Ell
Oh boy, now you've done it - because BOY do I have THINGS TO SAY!
I need to preface this by saying obviously these are my own headcanons, and as such they're heavily influenced by my own experiences.
So to start with, I think that Fujiko and Jigen are such interesting parallels of each other, in more ways than one - the most standout way being their consistency to their roles. They each compliment Lupin in almost the same way (as a criminal partner who is equally as skilled), but on one hand you've got Fujiko who is consistently unfaithful, compared to Jigen who is consistently faithful.
Then we get into headcanon territory. I have a myriad of headcanons for the gang, although I will admit I'm more fond of the OT4 than any specific pairing. Jigen and Fujiko often get the short end of the stick there, which I think might be partly by design, and partly by just how the fandom hive mind works sometimes.
Sexuality Talk
Jigen is clearly gay-coded (at the very least) in canon - there was a twitter thread about this a while ago that went into detail about it. My own personal headcanon differs and this is influenced by personal experiences. My consistent headcanon is that Jigen is bisexual but he does lean towards men. My other headcanon that shows up every now and then is that he's bisexual, but lands on the aro/ace spectrum. I don't think Jigen trusts or loves easily, so anyone who wants to get in on that needs to stick around for uhhh (checks watch) 12 business years to get past the walls.
Now Fujiko, I'm pretty sure Fujiko might actually be bi in canon, but don't take that as fact. My headcanon is certainly bi. My headcanon for her in relationships is pretty much as she's written in How to Train Your Assassins actually. She uses her body as a weapon so much that it can blur lines between where subterfuge ends and real attraction begins. To deal with this, I think she'd be likely to set out boundaries early on and stick to them, if she's dealing with someone that she actually wants a relationship with (which is not often, but happens occasionally).
Relationship Talk
I don't think Fujiko and Jigen are friends to start with. At all. I think they start as begrudging co-workers, who eventually realise that the other is actually incredibly trustworthy IF the effort is put in.
I think for the longest time they don't move past that almost sibling-esque kind of bickering, and it might even take a large near-death scare to either remind them or show them that they do care about each other.
THEN, even if they do admit that they care about each other, I don't think their relationship is ever as visibly romantic as the relationship Fujiko could have with Lupin or even with Goemon. Because Jigen is just not that kind of person. For him, I think love is shown in small actions, not large grandiose displays.
I think there's a real possibility sometimes that Jigen and Fujiko end up in a relationship where sex is not important. That particularly is one of my favourite kinds of headcanon, because Fujiko is so sexualised, I find it personally very fulfilling when I can imagine her in a relationship where her partner loves her without that added layer of sexual attraction.
My second favourite headcanon is that they don't fuck much, but when they do it's *stellar*
Parting words
I fucking love FuJigen as a ship, both platonically and romantically. I think they are a chronically underappreciated pairing who actually have the potential to compliment each other really well if the work gets done to bridge the gap between them.
I love them as a single ship. I love them as a begrudging best friends ship. I love them shipped together within the OT4. This is a hill I am WILLING TO DIE ON.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to rant and rave about these blorbos <3 <3 <3

Goemon/ mabui
Despite there not being a lot of information surrounding goemon I assumed that he’d perhaps be especially attracted to melanated soft featured women so I thought why not pair him with a beautiful intelligent black queen. If I remember correctly you once described him as an airhead and I think mabuis personality traits would balance his ?dreamy? Personality out very well while she’s also a calm and respectful person which matches his overall vibe. Since my thoughts on goemons personality and therefore his dynamic with mabui are just based on speculations it’s possible that I’m not aware of some important preference etc of his but rn I think they’d make a pretty solid and cute match. Since mabui is such a soft character who doesn’t like all the messy chaos around her maybe goemon would convince her to live her desired life with him. I also assumed that their age difference shouldn’t be an issue
Mabui is beautiful and would be someone he’d be interested in based on her personality if she was 20+ years older. Goemon wouldn’t like such as large age gap between him and a partner. Of course that could be fixed if you just toss her back in time verses making her be in the current/main timeline.
Unfortunately, his ideal body type for his partner isn’t really featured in many of the canon female characters. He likes soft stomachs, thick thighs, and over all a squishable partner. It’s not a deal breaker but it’s definitely what he’s most attracted towards.

Will You Love Me When.....~
Tumblr media
She asks the Question....
Genre: Fluff
Self Insert Writing
Ships: Multiple
Note: Hello I'm sorry I haven't been posting life's been kicking my ass, have this!
Will You Love Me When I am Old and Grey?
She ponders the question to the Master Thief, toothy grin wide plastering his face as he grabs her smaller hands in his, the rings upon their fingers shining in the sunlight. Banishing her negativity like the sun banishes the dark clouds.
“As long as the rain keeps falling my dear, I will continue to love you, haven’t I given you enough proof of that?” His brow raised, watching her face lift with pure elation with his reply. He made her heart light and free. There was never any boredom, nothing such a trifle. Every day, every morning the sun kissed the buildings across the land and she was off, on another adventure with her companion, the ever falling rain, one day will stop but will always return.
Dusk falls, palms pressed upon cold wood as she walks inside, tossing her jacket aside as the smoke fills the air, her eyes motioned to the wiry man lounging on the lounge, cigarette in his maw, his eyes burning holes into her back.
She takes a seat next to him, fingers stalking over to the empty hand beside her, filling in the empty gaps like it was meant to be. She didn’t need to tell her feelings to the man beside her, strangely he’s in tune with hers. Perhaps it was due to telepathy. That made her special, her magic. But it was the people around her that made her extra special.
“What’s on your mind?” The deep britone of his voice filled her ears, bringing her mind back from her cloudy daydreams, as the setting sun’s ray peaked through the grey curtains. She turned her head to face him, catching his eyes underneath those fluffy bangs that hide them normally. “Will you love me when I’m old and grey?” He gave a slight chuckle, the gunman taking a sip from his drink beside him giving her hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Yeah that’s not hard, won’t be that bad either. We’re both getting a bit grey, doll. Don’t fret about it.” Madilyn rested her head on his shoulder, with a laugh and a reply along the lines of are you getting sentimental old man? He grumbled, glaring at the door when the Thief returned, the wiry man rushing over to give the Princess a kiss, the Gunman yelling very loudly over it.
The two of them started arguing, Madilyn slithered out from their grasp with breathy laughter, the two grown men realising that their prize had wiggled free from them. The Thief wailed and cried in his dramatic way, whining about his Princess not wanting to spend time with him, the Gunman just started chuckling, cigarette between his teeth.
The sun was beginning to fully set, she waved them off as she stated she will be back later.
The Gunman sternly told her that he should go with her if she was leaving by herself, but the Princess stated she would be fine, opening her coat to show off the new shiny firearm she had just in case, had to blend in, you know. Magic was great but a low profile was better, Jigen gave a small nod as he watched her shiny self run off into the darkness, leaning against the doorway.
Oh how beautiful she was.
Madilyn was walking the well lit streets, hands in her coat pockets as she felt a familiar energy nearby, not too close but not too far either. She knew that energy, so Lupin and Jigen couldn’t let her be a big girl and walk by herself? They had to send Goemon?
She laughed.
It was in the bustle of the street, closing hours and all when she bumped into a familiar Inspector, her eyes lit up and he was flustered. The Inspector, the Paladin, bore bright red cheeks upon his face and asked the question if Lupin was in the area. He would not leave such a lady on her own, Madilyn shook her head walking alongside him as they chatted. Enemies Some Days they may be, Allies the next and the weird electricity between them is strong.
Zenigata felt strange about this woman, younger she may be then him but he noticed something special about her. The way she managed to keep the group calm, she always jumped in to save them, even save his own men at certain points. It was her kindness that was a very attractive quality.
“You’re not afraid of being on your own?” He asked, Madilyn tilted her head at him, a smile on her face. “No, I have people who help me. But Inspector I have a question for you….” Whatever this was between them, felt like a warm fire, for safety and comfort. She asked the same question she asked Lupin.
She asked Jigen.
“Will you love me when I’m old and grey?” He felt his heart thump loudly in his chest. She said it so casually, Magnolia had told him her sibling was very reserved, kinda shy. Every time he’s seen her she looks so happy, so free, yet wishes to have the things all romance dictates.
A home, a spouse, children etc etc.
Pulling his hat over his eyes to hide them from her, which was useless because she can read minds, feeling her arms snaking around his free arm as they continued walking. The gem around her neck glowed a subtle pink. Did she say she loved me? She’s in LOVE with me?? She heard his thoughts scrambled in his head, like tiny little versions of him controlling his thoughts and feelings, running around in that brain of his.
They walked for a long time as she heard his ramblings in his mind. She didn’t need a full answer from him quite yet as she released him from her grip, standing on her toes to plant a kiss on his cheek and she took off, running off into the distance, leaving the poor man bewildered and confused, face flushed.
She didn’t give him a chance to answer but internally he knew that he would. “You’re not that old, I’m older than you! But to answer your question, yes I would.” As long as the fire still burns alive inside him. He would. He then realised she ran off on her own, will she be okay?!??!
He was left panicking as Madilyn found herself by a lake, leaning against the railing as a motorbike’s engine filled her ears. The dark cherry red bike pulled up alongside her, the auburn haired rider motions her towards the bike. “Get on Princess, moon’s rising”
Mounting the bike, wrapping her hands around the riders waist as the bike revved up and sped back onto the road. The wind in her auburn hair, Fujiko Mine felt a sense of pride that she was able to steal the Princess away for a time. To hear her laughter, to see her smile, that was the sad part about her being under rule of her Father’s side of the family.
The Lady Rogue wanted her to be free but she knew she couldn’t ask that of her, she knew the Princess’s heart lay with others, she could feel it through her back with how close she was to her. The bike leaned and turned the corners, slick and smooth as the ride was leading them back to the hideout.
Madilyn, over the roar of the engine and fear of the bugs shouted loudly “Fujiko! Will you still love me when I’m old and grey?” The bike sped up a little bit more as the open dirt road beckoned them, down the backroads past the peoples homes and fences, skirting up toward the place the gang is hiding away. Locking the bike in to stay put, the woman driver turned her head and gave her a smile.
“As long as you do the same~” Releasing her from her hold, the Lady Rogue speeds off into the night, the moon hanging high. Madilyn watched her go, releasing a bird back into the wild, turning her body. Her eyes went wide when she found the Thief waiting for her in the open door. The smirk he wore, hands in his pockets, eyes shining.
She approached, arms folded across her chest. “Did you really have to have Goemon follow me?”
“Maybe” He said in reply, reaching over to snake his arms around her waist.
“I can handle myself.”
“I know Princess I know. Just wanted you to be safe is all”
Safety, that was the first sign she knew she was happy. She felt safe with them. Even though they are criminals. She asked him the same question again, he gave the same answer.
Yes.
It will always be yes.

as your resident jigen stan, i wanna see a more in depth analysis of him according to you because i'll take anything at this point i am Depraved
alright, alright-- i'll try but i really don't have as much to say about him as the rest of the gang.
okay so... first of all i dont think jigen has any gap moes. at least not any that are as extreme as the rest of the gang. I took the liberty of watching some more lupin clips and discovered that he just has quirks, not really anything as significant as a gap moe.
honestly, jigen is the closest thing we've got to a straightman. which is good, comedies usually need those. but he's not uptight and boring and a fun killer- he's just not completely insane. Since he's the straight man, he gets all the serious episodes. Mostly involving women. I guess when the lupin iii writers wanted to do something cool and serious, they'd bring in Jigen.
He's still a massive dork though. (clip) He's Lupin's pal to the end, and even though Jigen himself isn't that silly, he loosens up around the gang. I like how in the past he was a gritty assassin and now he's... well... not! he doesnt kill that much anymore. from killer to nerd
anywayssss into his quirks:
sometimes they draw him doing silly poses while doing cool stuff. similar to goemon, but toned down.
his attachment to his hat. he will get sooo embarrassed if he doesn't have it, feels naked without it on, and apparently can't shoot good without it. he also has multiple and hangs them out to dry. (can't find clip. it's part two though.)
on that note, he's a clip of him losing his hat
he has more quirks in the english dub.
his superstitions. like athlete's foot acting up. he has on multiple occasions not done a job because of something superstitious like this
the way he says "friggen" wayyyy too much. and "crap". in english dub. veryy funny
and onto misc things. this is very not organized sorry.
he's so buddy buddy w lupin!!! they're pals. I love this nuggie gag they got going. also very witty, in the clip immediately after this one. he's got a lot of good oneliners.
but also they're the kind of friends to tease the fuck out of eachother! the frineds who are like "YOU HAVE UNOOOO" and to tell eachother to shut the fuck up and to embarrass eachother in public. they wrestle just because they can and bite. they're best friends, and absolute menaces to eachother. just guys being dudes.
I think they would do this (short)
i find it funny how he's a selfproclaimed "woman hater" and yet he is the one with the most exes and girlfriends in the entire series. like ok.
this whole big with his toothache. he really is a dork.
To summarize: Jigen is the "straight-man" of the group, in a way. But he has quirks that make him just as entertaining as the others. The closest thing to a gap moe we have is that he used to be a gritty assassin, and is now a huge dork who goes around with a monkey faced goofball stealing treasures. what a turnaround! The best way I could describe him is "dork".
In conclusion, here's Jigen and Goemon spitroasting Lupin (clip)

Need a late-night gap filler, forgot the ol queue ran out. So how about another currently watching? Finally got around to finishing something on my watch list for ages. Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. I loved the old Lupin episodes they’d play on Adult Swim. It was one of my first forays into vintage anime and some top episodes like Shot Through the Heart stick with me to this day. So if Nami is my favorite Straw Hat pirate...how do you think I’d feel about the bold choice to shift part 4 of this iconic series to it’s equally iconic lady thief?
I’m so sad this wasn’t like, my sixth rewatch. Why did I take so long? 2012 was not a time I was super into anime I guess but still...this was awesome. Going all artsy and for more of a Film Noir vibe, making it a prequel showing how the gang got together. I about woke the neighbors when I saw Goemon cut the plane like in the old opening! It’s also batshit insane and hornier than Lupin III typically is. Which is neato mosquito. I also love these takes on Lupin, Jigen, & Goemon but damn did Zenigata get so much mileage out of a little twink lieutenant.
This was a cool outing, and I know I’ll end up rewatching this one time and again.

Tomoe does refer to Lupin as a boy/her son a few times in episode 23(dunno about episode 24) so like if we go with the whole trans Lupin idea then she's at least not transphobic 😭
Thank you for fact checking
It was like midnight when I wrote that bit and didn’t wanna research.
It is probable (and up to interpretation) that Lupin was originally female and got upset that only boys could inherit the Lupin name so it’s possible that she went behind the entire family, trained with Tomoe then posed as a man to pass the test, did the job so well that her grandfather didn’t care about the Mulan act (because Lupin I would obviously see through that disguise and know it was his granddaughter), and gave her the title because she was the best in the family at being a thief. But because the Lupin name had to be carried by someone with a penis, she stayed a he and honestly didn’t care that her grandfather told her ‘yeah you gotta officially be a man now’, she was probably like ‘cool’. I am not learned in the history of gender reassignment surgery because I myself am not transgender so do not axe me please, but in terms of Lupin the Third lore (like that freaking exists LOL) it was more than likely possible that the technology and knowledge to give Lupin that level of gender reassignment to become Lupin the Third existed despite it being like the late fifties, early sixties, and the family also had more than enough money lying around to it.
I always love that Monkeypunch made Lupin’s true backstory almost non-existent so people could take it and turn it into whatever they wanted to believe Lupin was and meant to them (Fujiko also falls under this umbrella because if we don’t count TWCFM she also does not have any backstory to her character. I wrote when briefly talking about Jigen and Fujiko’s relationship when watching the latter half of Part 1 that Lupin and Fujiko were kind of the same person except one had bigger boobs so Monkeypunch wrote a female equivalent for Lupin for the women to enjoy FOR THE TIME PERIOD IT WAS WRITTEN, her character has certainly evolved in recent years to still hold that candle to be more socially acceptable by making her more independent and girl bossy) I just wrote that so easily in the span of 10 minutes but give me 10 more and I could get you believing that Lupin is actually a space alien, which is also plausible.
I think the only person out of the main cast who has any SOLID backstory that is canon is Goemon. I wish I was kidding but I’m not. Jigen’s backstory is kind of fluid since we only have bits and pieces that are canon so we (the fans) can fill in the gaps how we want because I think Jigen was written to have structure to his overall character, but have it shrouded with a veil of mystery. But with Goemon we know exactly where he came from, what his past was like, and always goes on about his ancestors and attends plays about them and cries in honor.
Zenigata also falls with Jigen with the structure and veil of mystery, but is more solid than Jigen because Zenigata serves a specific purpose as being Lupin’s foil, his Tom to his Jerry.
