今回はポルシェのハンドルを変えて、そのハンドルについての話になります。 MOMOが70年代から80年代にかけて販売していたステアリング、F1ドライバーのシグネチャーシリーズのジル・ヴィルヌーヴが最後にデザインしたハンドルに変えました。伝説のF1ドライバーである彼の事故レースを最後に、日本におけるF1開催は10年間にわたり中断された。ヴィルヌーヴは世界のマスコミから激しい非難に晒されたが、エンツォ・フェラーリは「事故は今までにもたくさんあった、これがF1レースの世界だ」と擁護している。彼は常人では考えられない三輪走行でのカウンターステアなど動くうちは決してレースを諦めないファイトは人々の心を捉え、F1の歴史に残る名バトルの数々を繰り広げ、32歳で事故死。この一部始終は映像として残っており、自動車レースにおける最も悲惨で衝撃的な事故映像の一つとして、1983年「ウィニング ラン」、1987年「グッバイ ヒーロー」などの映画で紹介されている。ヴィルヌーヴが付けたカーナンバー27は、名門フェラーリが27番を付けるのは不振の象徴として嫌われていた。しかし、ヴィルヌーヴの獅子奮迅の活躍と悲劇の死により、27番は「偉大な番号」として愛され、フェラーリのエースドライバーを象徴するものとなった。その後、パトリック・タンベイ、ミケーレ・アルボレート、ナイジェル・マンセル、アイルトン・セナ、アラン・プロスト、ジャン・アレジらが27番を受け継いで戦った。セナ、アレジは、ヴィルヌーヴを尊敬していたといわれ、アレジが幼少の頃は、自分の部屋にヴィルヌーヴの等身大ポスターが貼ってあったという。 I changed my porsche steering signature series designed by F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve. Op deze dag in 1950 werd Gilles Villeneuve geboren. De Canadees kwam tussen 1977 en 1982 uit in de Formule 1. Hij behaalde dertien podiumplekken, zes overwinningen en twee pole posities. Hij overleed op 32-jarige leeftijd als gevolg van een crash tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van België 1982.
