Appreciation post for 'girly girl' characters and/or shows that celebrate traditionally feminine things that girls and women are shamed for.

Characters on this list that love makeup, fashion, hair, etc. Characters that are still written as strong, intelligent, brave, etc. That told young girls that these interests are valid, they are not lesser interests. Being feminine and liking traditionally feminine things does not make them weak.

#I'm so glad I got to grow up with these girls #I was originally gonna make a post of Barbie Daphne and Stella and be like. They remind me so much of each other #And how much I love characters like them #Because I do #But then I was like fuck it let's just make a post for all the girly girls because they're so good #So here we are. In a world of misogyny. We still have them. And I am so greatful #I'm sad I missed out on celebrating my femininity and stuff like this in my teen years because of just. Stuff I was going through #But I'm glad I'm doing it now. I've been getting into makeup for the past year. Mostly eye it's so fun #The Barbie movie. Dressing up for it. Being proud makeup and skirts and dressing up like I did as a girl. God it was so wonderful #I've not felt this connected to this part of myself in years. It has helped to much #It reminded me of my love for Barbie. The movies. The fairies and mairmaids. The bright colours and fashions #And my love for all of these shows. The outfits and designs I fell in love with. The friendships and sisterhoods in all of them. #Yes it's just Rarity. I know some of the others girls also fit. But some don't as much so I didn't wanna just put a group one #And I know Kim and some others aren't as girly as others. I had written an entire essay and my app crashed. Took me 40 minutes to write that bitch and it’s gone. Very much sad time rn. Anyways. Sorry that this’ll be less elaborate than the post I wanted. But I made a super long ask detailing resources where you could learn more about Cap & Billy because I saw in one of your posts that you were new to DC & didn’t know much about Billy other than the Shazam! movie.

And since I’m a huge Captain Marvel nerd and I love sharing the character with others, I wanted to give you more resources to learn about him! I noticed that most of your knowledge comes from the post new-52 version of Billy and the Shazam! movie, so most of them are going to be pre-crisis resources.

But I only realized after it deleted that people wouldn’t be able to click the links so I’m making it it’s own post & I’ll make sure to tag ya bc it was initially intended to be for you.

I got links to scans of the original WHIZ comics, interviews with the creators, podcasts detailing the history of Cap, comic recs, fantastic tumblr blogs to follow, to an absolutely fantastic pre-crisis Cap analysis & essay blog that fundamentally changed my perception of the character!

So look forward to a big ol “good places to be introduced to cap’s character” post by yours truly once I get off of work.

Hun I'm so sorry I took so long with this ask, and I'm so sorry your essay got deleted, I hate it whenever tumblr does that.

This ask filled me with so much glee the day I got it, I love Captain Marvel so much I just want to squeeze Billy Batson's cheeks and feed him a nutritionally balanced meal.

Most of my knowledge of Captain Marvel/Shazam/Billy Batson comes from, well, wherever I can find information, which is a wild adventure by itself! But at least with writing fanficion I can take things easier and even create my own things for the big red cheese.

Also, the biggest reason I never got to your ask was because I was looking for something to include in the reply and only found it recently! I had a comic of our favorite superhero lying around somewhere and I found it! And along the way I ended up buying some more, hahaha

Good lord, I even bought a Keychain doll. And I don't have a Keychain!

At least I have my own little Captain Marvel collection building up now, now including the comic I got from AMC theatres when I saw the movie on opening day!

the RAMPANT consumerism on the section of youtube I have ended up on recently is actually kind of disgusting to me. if I see one more video of a perfectly manicured hand with a hint of a sweater sleeve putting things in a target cart or using 100 bottles for a skin and hair self-care day or using 50 different cleaning products in an enormous, pristine, white home while a random pop song remix plays in the background I'm going to start destroying things.

#I know exactly how I got here #there is a specific crossover of decluttering/production hacks/workout plans/minimalism/motivational videos that leads directly #to very wealthy stay-at-home women doing sunday resets and target hauls and restocking and organizing the guest bedroom #and 4 hour pre-vacation self-care videos #but it is so BAD. I am not saying don't buy things or take care of yourself or anything like that #I literally have mentioned several times in the past two weeks that I was waiting on packages in the mail! #but GOD. the difference between buying a set of dvds I'm going to use until they fall apart #and literally having 4 bookcases of skin care products is ASTRONOMICAL #I cannot imagine a single reason anyone would ever need that much stuff #and it's All so sanitized and perfected and nothing can be out of place and it's just awful #that girl aesthetic/it girl/clean girl aesthetic/etc etc #and every single woman in these videos is perfectly shaped and tanned and hair done up #and they all wear these matching set workout fits #just oh my god girl!!!!!! what are you doing????!!!!!?? #I don't know. They haven’t finished installing the exhibit yet (I think Michael Nesmith’s suit, The Hat™, and a few other pieces are still on display at the Troubadour for the remainder of the year). I have more in my camera roll, but I had to post Gram’s iconic white suit (plus Sneaky Pete & Chris’ suits) and his International Submarine Band era jacket. It was such a good exhibit and my poor friend had to listen to me tell every bit of history and fun fact I had because this era and niche of music has been my special interest for years. I also actually accidentally started leading a tour through the exhibit because a few older people started following to listen to all my history rants lol.

I haven’t been up to the twin cities for more than just one very quick day trip for a wild game last spring since 2019 (I used to come up for various things about 4-5x a year) and man I didn’t realize how much I missed coming up here.

I’m sure if I spent more than few days here I’d be tearing my hair out over the traffic and general number of people, but right now I want to move back so badly.

#the traffic was literally 1/3rd of my decision to move back to Des Moines after living up here for 2-ish years back in my early 20s #I am a medium-sized city girl at heart. I can’t handle needing more than about 15 minutes to get anywhere #anne blabs #I got to have ikea meatballs and I got to go to my very favorite independent art store… #I got to have green mill pizza which has so much nostalgia for me #I haven’t gotten to go fabric shopping but that just gives me an excuse for another trip soon #I am sad I went during the actual least pretty time of year though (winter with no snow) #I need to experience St. Paul in the autumn again for my soul to be complete
