2018 Classics

Positives:

* Though she was not very polished this time out, I really liked what I saw of Madelyn Williams. Her artistry on floor was better than most in the US right now, and her bars were pretty nice! I hope to see her improve from here on out.

* I, like many, did not initially see the merits of Riley McCusker. Perhaps it was watching her work bars after Alyona, but I have a newfound appreciation for her toe-point on the event.

* I liked Morgan’s floor routine! Struggled to place where I had heard the music before.

* Simone wins with a fall on bars - amazing!

* SOMEBODY had this really cool move on FX, where they did a back bend into a press - anyone know who this was?

Negatives:

* Where was Shilese Jones in the coverage? I watched the international feed and I don’t think they showed one routine of hers! She finished 4th and deserved to be shown.

* Back-to-back wolf turns: Why is this a thing? I really hope the new code makes this unacceptable for connection value. The way I see it, the girls doing this are not truly connecting the skills together so it bothers me that they are getting bonus for this heinous move.

* I still really dislike the “This is Halloween” floor music. Haha. Hopefully she changes it soon!

* Kara Eaker fell on beam, but I think as long as she hits at championships she should make the worlds team. But I have no idea what kind of team the new “high-performance director” will go for!

* I really don’t mean to pick on her, but Jade could not emote less on floor.

* I was going to say that Simone seemed sad/out-of-it throughout the whole competition, but then her post-comp interview made it clear she was really mad about her bars fall. And then I logged on here and learned about the drama. :(

Questions:

* Does anyone know why they did vault medals based on a single vault score? Simone did not compete two vaults, Jade & Jordan did, but Simone got the gold. I just feel like I don’t remember them doing that before and it makes NO sense!

Unimportant observations:

* Olivia Hollingsworth was seriously reminding me of Cheng Fei in that red and yellow leo!

* Favorite leos were probably Morgan’s and the Texas Dreams one.
