I haven’t seen this on my feed yet, but I absolutely love that the German gymnasts wore unitards. They did this to fight the sexualisation of women in gymnastics. It’s great because athletes should be able to wear what they feel comfortable in ☺️
I have just started following the Simone Biles “controversy,” and...
...my favorite part is how media outlets are interviewing every gymnast they can find and they all just keep saying that she did the right thing and they support her.
Like, you can sort of tell that what they want is for someone to slag on her so they can run a juicy catfight story--”did you hear what she said about her?!?”--but none of the women are giving them that quote, so instead we have a whole news cycle about women supporting each other’s bodily autonomy. I think that’s great.
it sucks that the narrative is going to be that the usa had a “disappointing finish” for silver when it should be that those girls worked their asses off and did so incredibly well that they got 2nd on the biggest international stage. especially since for 3 of them it’s their first olympic medal, I would hate to see interviews just be filled with critiques of their performance and how they “should have done better.” they should be proud of their finish, they did amazing work and they deserve to celebrate
