Now that it’s been long enough. Skybound’s big reveal on Megatron’s whereabouts: he’s in Cobra-La being studied by Cobra Commander’s science division against Golobulus’ wishes. For awhile there was the meme about Optimus wearing Megatron’s arm, and since Megatron seems to be missing both arms, I wondered what it’d be like if he got a Cobra-La replacement arm. Sort of the rough idea I had was an organic Guyver version of the dead Prime arm, but experimented with making his arm a transforming version of Serpentor’s chariot thing. In vehicle mode, I saw him having a big snake turret because I think it’s funny.
A fan thing I had in mind for Skybound was a team of Cobracons that consist of Iguanus, Slitherfang, Gatoraider, Deathcobra, Billy (based on the Cobra Commander’s son version from IDW’s TF vs Joes series) and Pythona. Megatron would have a role, but I also saw Starscream become a Python Patrol jet, only his null rays are snakes for a visual gag.

Okay, Cobra Commander number 4!
Ripper lives!!! Yeah, sure, he's not the sort of character whose survival is the sort to celebrate, but I like him now.
Cobra Commander continues to be a pretty interesting villain protagonist and, I gotta say, this is the most I've ever seen of his face! His face has probably been revealed at some point in the 40 years of GI Joe (besides the movie), but I don't actually want to see his face. It's better that way.
I think we're getting a CC and Megatron team up or CC using Megatron to exact his revenge against Golobulus at some point. I doubt within this miniseries as we're weaving in the connection with Destro, but at some point!

Funnily enough, Skybound already has somewhat of a way to introduce at least Jan or a character inspired by him (and by extension, Star Saber) due to the circumstances of Jimmy Witwicky's death. Jan's parents died in a spacecraft incident caused by the Dinoforce, this could easily be reworked into Jan's parents being apart of the shuttle crew that Jimmy Witwicky was on. Furthermore, if they want to incorporate more G.I. Joe components then they could swap out Jan (who likely isn't very well known outside of rare Victory fans) and replace him with Billy Kessler, Cobra Commander's son
This would fulfil Star Saber adopting a child whose parent/s died in a spacecraft related accident, Billy Kessler being on the good guys and an enemy to his biological father and would also explain how Cobra Commander ended up in Cobra-La (with the loose story being that he obviously survived the shuttle incident and was taken in by Golobulus, for reasons unknown as of yet)
It's extremely fanficcy sure but so was IDW Star Saber so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Like I said before, this is all just a writing exercise to see what avenues they could take the character based on his existing personality and characterization, balanced of course by Robert Kirkman's statements at NYCC 2023 that he had no immediate plans for these characters and the fact that I trust the creator of Invincible and The Walking Dead far more than the guy who made fanfic and tried to make its elements and characterization canon.
That being said, having Star Saber adopt someone from the shuttle accident does directly connect him to the main storyline in a way that he likely wouldn't be if he was off doing his own thing fighting other masters of Metallikato and those who would hurt the innocent, presumably in the pages of Void Rivals. Billy Kessler, if he is alive in this universe (and considering Cobra Commander is a human, not a snake-person, he may very well be) being adopted by Star Saber is an interesting idea if only because the original comics had him taken in by an Arashikage master after his attempts to get his dad to abandon his crusade didn't pan out. The idea of contrasting the Arashikage ninjas with the Metallikato masters appeals to me, but I'm not sure how it would play out. Of course, odds are if Billy is in this scenario, he'll be younger than the original Billy, who was a teenager when the narrative first met him again, while Jan was in the equivalent of elementary school.
Still, it's more proof that while you don't have to have Star Saber be a stock Autobot leader, you can do things with his original characterization that don't involve a baseless religious fundamentalist angle that no one liked.

Shipwreck’s Corner - Descended from the serpent kings of pre-history; Golobulus rules over Cobra-La, a hidden, secret valley in the Himalayas where the high priests of the Bio-Mechanical cult have created a technology based solely on living organisms. The buildings of Cobra-La are really colonies of crustaceans, and the clothes of inhabitants are as alive as the people who wear them. Golobulus has achieved immortality through symbiosis .. at the cost of his humanity.

Dear Vector Prime, Whatever happened to Koh-Buru-Lah?
Dear Tentacled Terror,
With the death of its champion Cobra Commander, Koh-Buru-Lah—child of the cosmic Serpent and sibling to Golah-Bulas—was forced into hiding, deep within the surface of Cybertron. Cut off from its worshippers and surrounded by the cold metal it despised, it was left in a catatonic state, paralysed and unmoving far below the feet of Rodimus Prime and his fellow Cybertronians for decades. However, the dark deity's role in this world was not yet over, and Koh-Buru-Lah would be reawakened when Space War II reached Cybertron. Having already conquered Mars from the forces of Snake-Eyes, the Cobra Commander, the Serpentor sought to prevail where his father had not in claiming Cybertron for his own; and when he set foot on the metal world, the presence of his divinely-touched bloodline was felt by Koh-Buru-Lah. Reaching out to the Serpentor through his dreams, the primordial god drew to itself the Neo-Cobra Emperor, who gladly pledged his service. As a blessing to its new herald, Koh-Buru-Lah used the worship it had fed upon and its years of acclamation to Cybertron to create new followers: Kohlada and the Slitherfangs, fusions of dark occultism and living metal, nigh-unstoppable in battle.
In response to the Neo-Cobra invasion, Rodimus Prime's Autobots and Lieutenant-General Stone's G.I. Joe Xtreme agreed—with understandable suspicion and reluctance—to fight alongside the aged Snake-Eyes and his Cobra forces, against his half-brother's serpentine armies. Unfortunately, the outcome of this Cobra Civil War is clouded to my vision; I can only hope that Koh-Buru-Lah and its followers do not prevail, for I fear their ambitions may not be bound to their home reality.

Another successful trip to Toy Traders in Langley BC! Finally took the plunge on Cobra-La! Can't believe it's taken me this long to pick them up, I love the figures, but I think I was just waiting to find a Royal Guard complete. Another mic/breather/antenna for the want list...
Picked up an upgrade Targat and Cross Country for display, Downtown for my '89 run, and the awesome Tiger Force Roadblock because I love that helmet haha!
