Kanto

Drake - Drake attempts to get his Dragonite used to his son, and he succeeds wildly.

Diamondshipping - An average day in the life of Giovanni Ketchum, a husband, a father, and a mafia boss.

Koga - Ash & Janine train in their ninja skills, the problem is they use it to mess with their neighbors and their dad has to do something about it.

Johto

Valerie - ash and his mom are moving away from their home.

Morty - a young couple struggles to make some ends meet, luckily Agatha can be nice.

Silver (Anime) - Silver takes his son to the sevii islands for the first time, Montress says hi.

Archie - team Aqua + Ash and Delia go to the beach, and Ash learns why not to swim out too far.

Leon - a lesson on why impulsive adopting an orphan is not always a smart decision.

Tulip & Dendra - Dendra decides to give her class a demonstration of how moves can be used in more than just battles, featuring her wife and son.

Larry & Katy- “take your kid to work” day doesn’t gel well when your son is rather high energy.

Miriam (& Iono) - my little bro battles me at my gym!? (not clickbait, gone wild!!)

Hisui

Cyllene - Of the many things Cyllene expected to occur in Hisui, becoming a mother to a kid who fell from the sky was not one of those things.

“Let me ask you. Did you know? Ah, I should not be so coy. It was I who taught Wallace everything there is to know about Pokémon. Once, I had given up my position as the Gym Leader. In my place, I had entrusted Wallace with the Gym. However, a compelling reason arose for me to make a comeback. Ah, but enough chatter. Let us begin our match, shall we? Please, you shall bear witness to our artistry. A grand illusion of water sculpted by Pokémon and myself!”

Huh. What's this guy doing here? I thought this art series was focused on the ORAS designs! ... Yeah well, funny story. I know I've been saying up to this point that I was a Sapphire player as a kid, but that's...not entirely true. Sapphire may have been my entry point into Hoenn, but when Emerald came out, I absolutely played it more than both Ruby and Sapphire. I always preferred the third version of the set (at least, until they decided to stop making them for any number of reasons, either wanting to make direct sequels or AU updates and now DLC), so I poured my heart into Emerald. As a result, while I'm not really planning to do the characters exclusive to the battle facilities for any of these so I'm not doing Battle Frontier (sorry!), I couldn't just leave that game's exclusive Gym Leader behind, and when I asked via a Twitter poll...roughly a year ago now probably, the people seemed to agree with me. So here's Juan to remind us of the GBA days! And while I do love the ORAS redesigns, I gotta say that most of the original RSE designs hold up pretty well too, and Juan not getting a remake design iirc means he can stand as a testament to that :3

Now that she has full artwork, we need to talk about Daisy Oak! Even if she’s not Champion-level, there’s no way she isn’t a very powerful Trainer in her own right! It’s said that even the most ferocious Pokemon calm down around her, so that alone tells me she has access to some serious badasses of her own! She routinely travels from Pallet to Celadon for tea, so she would have to have earned at least a Thunder Badge and a Cascade Badge to make that possible, and why not, let’s give her a Rainbow Badge since she’s a routine visitor to the area anyway! In fact, my theory is that Daisy was the substitute Gym Leader for Viridian Gym, but you never actually get to battle her because Giovanni chose that time to come back to his Gym, and that’s how Blue came around to taking over the Gym himself!

That's certainly an interesting theory! I definitely think Daisy Oak is quite the badass in her own right (it seems to be a theme for the Oak family). However I don't think she has any gym badges or was ever a substitute gym leader. Mainly because in FRLG it's shown in her fame checker data that she is a grand champion...contest coordinator! Coordinator's don't often get their flowers from the fandom at being able to train strong Pokemon, but they can. Of course we have Wallace being both a master coordinator and a champion as well as Juan (in the anime) and Fantina who are both gym leaders and coordinators. But also we have Wallace's cousin Lisia who is a high tier coordinator who is capable of mega evolving! As far as we know Lisia doesn't have any badges (although I do believe in Masters she does mention she wants to learn more about battling as a typical trainer would). Also Johanna, the player's mom in DP is also a famous coordinator and again there's no evidence of her having (or needing) badges to get from Twinleaf Town all the way to the contest hall in Hearthome City. We don't know if there's a ribbon equivalent system in-universe (by that I mean you need X ribbons to get certain HMs or have Pokemon obey you) but I feel like if the badges do have actual in-universe effects (besides just being progress markers for us) then so would contest ribbons. Because many coordinators never set foot in a gym yet they travel the region just like trainers do with little problem. So while I'm not saying Daisy never took part in a gym battle, I think it's more likely she got her skills to travel safely while training her team for Pokemon contests.

I'm in the Hall of Fame (Zine)!

Hey everyone! I'm excited to say that I'm a contributor in the Hall of Fame Zine (@halloffamezine), a fanzine about the various champions of the Pokémon regions! It's currently in its preorder phase, and you should totally check it out!

This is my first zine, and I'm really excited about how it's turning out (and y'all should be too!)

Under the cut is an excerpt from my piece, titled "Soul of the Ocean":

"Come now, it's still a bit further to the Temple."

Wallace felt so small, his heart pounding in his chest as he followed his master's assured steps.

The corridor almost felt more like a dungeon, the dim candlelight illuminating only small parts of the stone walls. However, as they trekked further, Wallace began to notice more and more patterns along the walls, not unlike the ones in the Sky Pillar.

"What are those carving?" He asked quietly, not taking his eyes off of them.

"They tell the story of how Sootopolis City came to be," Juan responded, casting a brief glance over to where his apprentice was looking.
