TechnoCoven Witchcraft Convention Day 3 and Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Who knew I’d be so sad about the end of a virtual convention?
I didn’t stay in a high-profile city that I ran out of time to explore or have to go through the mournful packing process of leaving a hotel room I barely spent time in. I enjoyed the entire convention from the comfort of my apartment, tuning into panels from my altar, my bed, my couch, my desk, and even my balcony. But I was sad when it finally hit 2:00PM and @technocoven 2020 finally closed, all of the channels going from rapidly blinking notifications to stark, read-only archives of everything that happened over the last three days.
Before I jump into talking about the final events of the convention, I want to highlight some of the key things that made this event what it was for me. These include a diversity of belief systems, of course, but I think what was more important to me was that every panel regardless of topic was designed to be accessible for witches with no knowledge of the topic but still interesting and engaging for people that might be more advanced. The panels were all fairly academic in a way that I wasn’t expecting. They definitely had me itching for a conference! All of the panels were also inspiring. Even if I was listening in on a panel about something I’m well-versed in, the talks got my brain working on new ideas and thinking about things I need to further explore.
I think more than anything, this whole weekend reinforced something that is already dear to me, sharing knowledge as a community regardless of focus, practice, religion, etc. Now, I’m planning on turning some of the articles I’ve published previously on this blog (like Tarot 101) into talks I can give to my book club @libercoven. We’ve done things like that before, but definitely not in a way that was as involved as this convention. With enough enthusiasm from the members, I’d even love to have guest speakers come on the server to share their various areas of expertise.
So, I’m leaving TechnoCoven 2020 with a long list of things to research, a new grimoire to plan, and a whole list of Etsy shops to try (and likely fail) to avoid spending tons of money in. (Thank you, @loveletterstotheabyss!) But mostly, I got something I really needed given the current state of the world and that is a hefty dose of community and a lots of motivation. For that and all of the panelists, moderators, planners, vendors, and other donors and attendees, I am incredibly grateful.
The Events
There actually weren’t many events on the last day of the convention, the few hours it was left open were time to free-roam through the courtyard and vendor channels, chatting and exchanging Tumblrs and Discord links and friend requests to keep in touch with everyone we’d suddenly found ourselves attached to, but that doesn’t mean these events weren’t meaningful. In fact, I think they’re a major part of why I’m already aching for the next convention.
Since there are only two events for me to comment on, I didn’t put a “Read More” cut here, but I did include the titles and panelists like I’ve done in my previous posts.
PANEL: Trans + Queer Spirituality 101 with @hillbillyoracle
Who ever decided to let Marz open and close the convention with their incredible panels on shadow work and queer spirituality was a genius. As I touched on my review blog about day one of the convention, there is a gentleness and a raw honesty to the way that they present and connect with their listeners that really captures the way the whole convention played out. And, of course, the content of this panel was exactly the all-inclusive, supportive topic perfect for closing out a community event like this. I’m not a trans person myself, but I am asexual, and that aspect of myself is something I’ve always struggled to incorporate in my craft. The insight and guiding questions that Marz provided are going to be major journal/grimoire prompts for me as I start on the new grimoire that Kris enabled motivated me to start at the end of day two. I’m incredibly grateful for their perspective.
DONOR PANEL: Brunch Chat with @nightshadeandroses
This was listed as a “panel,” but this final event scheduled for everyone that helped raise money for relief foundations over the course of the convention to chat freely and wind down was definitely more of a gathering. Hanging out with the people I had been in the other channels asking questions and taking notes with for an hour was definitely what pushed me over the edge into oh no it’s almost over town.

ART SCHOOL | Q&A with JAY RIGGIO (LOS ANGELES)
After one day cutting up a polaroid and gluing it down to paper from old magazine he had laying around, New York native Jay Riggio began his journey with collage art and as an artist. As Jay’s work grew so did his ideas, and his work began to expand beyond the confines both in his storytelling and level of craftsmanship. Moving away from traditional collage making with scissor, paper and glue, Jay’s new sculptural collages with resin can take up to weeks to finish. We checked out his new LA based workspace in our post In The Studio | w/ Jay Riggio, and instantly we knew we’d like to chat more with Jay and find out how he started first making collages to his current work of massive 3D sculptural collage pieces made out of wood and resin.
Make the Leap!

Introduce yourself? My name’s Jay Riggio. I was born and raised in New York. Six months ago my girlfriend, myself and our two dogs moved from Queens to Burbank, California. I make art, listen to music and read a lot of books on true crime.
How did you first get into making and creating collages? In high school I was drawn to movies and writing. I remember distinctly being moved emotionally by things I read and saw. Essentially, it was my visceral response to an artist’s creation. Somewhere along the line I got a polaroid camera and started shooting photos. The notion came to me that I could tell a story, a long story even, all with a single photo. This concept consumed me. I was overwhelmed with the possibility of composing what existed within the four corners of a frame. One day I cut up a polaroid, glued it down to paper and added some cutouts from old magazines I had laying around. That was the start things. To this day, I still get that overwhelming feeling of possibility when I make art.
Was there a moment when your fascination with collage shifted into you creating them as a career? How did you start selling work? I actually spent over 10 years working different full-time jobs. I was raised to believe that you needed job security. It didn’t matter if you were happy. It mattered that you had something steady that enabled you to pay the bills. Working desk jobs, it felt as if I were pretending to be someone else. Like I was some kind of paid actor. I made art in my free time but rarely shared it with anyone other than close friends. I was always intimidated by the art world. I was aware of so much incredible art out there and felt I had no place in that world.
When social media began, my idea of the giant, scary art world became a lot smaller and easier to comprehend. About four years ago I decided to share the collages I was regularly making on Tumblr and Instagram. The combination of positive feedback on social media and the daily agony I experienced at my 9-5 job pushed me in the direction of full-time artist. I started selling work via Instagram and slowly moved towards selling through galleries as well.
We spotlighted your studio in a post called In the Studio early this year where you’ve been taking your collages to another level. When did you decide to go bigger and work with chemicals like varnish or lacquer?  I’ve always dreamed of making larger, more 3-dimensional work, but my tiny New York apartment only allowed for small scale stuff. My new body of work really only began 6 months ago when we moved to California. I turned our two car garage into a studio. Now I can make a giant mess and not have to clean it all up before my girlfriend gets home from work.
Originally, I experimented with layering hundreds of pieces of paper, cutting them out one at a time beneath an existing collage, using the thickness of the paper to create a sculptural effect to the work. Not only did it take months to finish a single piece, I quickly learned that layered paper warps, the larger the piece gets. That’s when I decided I needed to work with wood. Without having done any woodwork before, I bought a bunch of saws and started cutting my own wood shapes. I wanted the imagery I created within a frame to became the actual frame… for the piece to exist as sort of a hanging wood sculpture. My new work consists of a combination of acrylics, spray paints, handcut paper, glue, wood stain and resin on woodcut panels. Lately I’ve been experimenting with the layering of resin. You can achieve a 3D effect with multiple resin layers. When you get it right, it’s as if the imagery were floating in a shadowbox. The new process has been super exciting. I never went to art school, so it’s been humbling to try new techniques. I’ve learned something new every day since I started working with wood and resin.
What’s your process for assembling and creating an original collage piece on paper. Take us through your creative process?  My process has changed so much in the last few months. I still use old books and magazines as source materials, but these days each piece takes more planning from start to finish. For pieces that will end up being a few feet long, I need to make sure my source material is large enough. I still compose the imagery as I’m working on the piece. Once I get the imagery right, I paint borders, cut the shape of the wood with a scroll or jigsaw. When it’s time to glue down the imagery, I make decisions on how I want to layer the pieces within the resin. Some pieces can take up to 9 layers of resin. I wait 24 hours for the resin to dry and then it’s sanding out bubbles and imperfections before gluing down more imagery and prepping for another resin layer pour. These new pieces can take a couple weeks to finish. It’s hard to believe I used to make multiple pieces a day when I was just working with glue and paper.
What are you looking forward to artwise in 2018? What’s coming up for you?  I’m participating in a few group shows. I’ll have a piece in the Spoke NYC “O Cohen Where Art Thou” Show opening in February. It’s a tribute show to The Cohen brothers films. I’ll have a piece at the Night on Broadway art and music festival in Downtown LA at the end of this month, I’ll have work in the Grumpybert Red Envelope show in Brooklyn and a piece or two in the Bailey House Auction in March. I’ve also been doing graphics for Lovesick Skateboards, my friend Aleks’ board company. I’m also hoping to find a gallery to show some of the newer large scale woodcut pieces.
What artists past and present are you really into at the moment?  I’ve always loved Raymond Pettibon, Mark Gonzales, Ray Johnson, Winston Smith. As far as contemporary guys, I’m really into the work of Kris Kuksi, Fred Stonehouse, J. Grabowski, Porous Walker, Chris Johanson and Adrian Landon Brooks.
What would be your ideal collaboration?  Vans would be rad. Doing board graphics is always amazing. Anti-Hero would be sick.
What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t an artist?  At this point in my life, I can’t imagine doing anything else other than spending my days making art. If there comes a time when I can’t make rent, I’ll live on the street and try to sell my art.
What are your favorite Vans?  Hands-down, my favorites are the classic, all black slip-ons. I work in them, skate in them and wear’em when my lady and I have date nights.
What advice would you give someone thinking about art as a career?  Don’t allow the self-doubt, poverty, endless frustration, emotional devastation and heartbreak to interfere with the reality that you’re spending your days doing what you truly love.

You Sound so Good on Radio (RapMon AU)
Plot: AU You’re a DJ at your university’s student-run radio club and were called in to do a sample show last minute for a tour group of potential students. You caught his attention and he knew that he couldn’t go anywhere else. Especially if it meant he could share the airwaves with you at some point.
Rating: PG-13 (Language, implied cheating)
Characters: University Student!Kim Namjoon/Rap Monster x female Reader, University Student/Radio Club President!Kris (EXO-M), University Student/Fellow DJ!Johnny (NCT-127), and mentions of Seokjin and Yoongi (BTS)
Notes: This is an AU setting – all characters, background content, and storyline are fictional! This was an idea I’ve had kicking around in my head inspired by the writer’s personal experience of working in student-run radio shows at school. (It sat on the back burner until I realized it would be a good fit for music lover and brainy student Kim Namjoon.) Y/S/N stands for “your screen name”, Y/E/N is “your ex’s name”, and Y/DJ/N is “your DJ name.”
Happy Birthday Namjoon!
“Can I ask you to do a last minute show?”
“Uhhh maybe,” you drawled as you pressed your phone to your ear, “when?”
He sucked in a sharp breath and forced a smile as he revealed that he needed you to get over to the student radio booth in 40 minutes. Your eyes widened and you changed direction.
“Damn you Kris,” you hissed as you dug around in your bag, briefly checking that you had the essentials. “You’re lucky my next class was canceled – what’s this all about?”
“Potential students tour,” Kris explained. “Sorry Y/N – they threw this on me last minute too. Admissions wanted to show off the student radio program and they wanted a show playing live when the tour came through. I sort of panicked and didn’t know who to ask.”
“You owe me,” you warned him as you made a beeline for the studio, unlocking the door with your ID card. “Are there any rules Admissions set?”
“No profanity because it’s a daytime show, don’t run over into the next scheduled show’s slot…” Kris trailed off, biting his lip. “Um maybe pick some happy tunes or something? I don’t know – just make it seem cool to join radio, okay?”
“I’ll try. Wonder why they care all of sudden,” you droned as you pulled out your laptop and began pulling songs into a playlist.
“How do you take your coffee?” he asked.
“Make it the largest size available and you’re a godsend,” you said before hanging up. You plugged in the cords from the dashboard and began adding in bumpers that would play in between every 3 songs to promote the studio radio station. Complaints aside, radio was a welcome escape for you whenever you wanted a break from the stress of college. Anyone could apply to have a radio program, as long as they showed up for their time slot, followed the radio airwave rules, and attended the radio meetings that took place every other week.
“You’re listening to a special broadcast of Nocturnal Beats, coming to you live and in stereo from the radio station,” you announced into the microphone. “You just heard music from Halsey, a beautiful cover of Adele’s “Hello” by Alice Olivia, and “Skool Luv” by BTS. Speaking of school love, why not show your support for our talented lacrosse team at this Saturday’s game? Game starts at 7 PM, tickets are $7 at the gate…” You tore a glance at the bulletin board nearby to make sure you were covering all of the announcements posted during your talking break. From the corner of your left eye, you spotted a large group of families coming into the building, led by a student tour guide. Satisfied that you covered everything posted, you wrapped up your talking segment as you teased the next few songs coming up in the hour.
“Over here is the student radio booth – all of the programs broadcast are put on by students for students,” the guide said as she gestured to the booth. “Parents and friends are welcome to download the app or live stream it from your computer or WI-fi enabled devices to listen in as well. We have programs running 7 days a week from 7 AM to midnight, ranging from music, talk shows, and we’ve even had a few radio dramas played during the airwaves.”
You avoided the crowd’s gaze as you slotted in a bumper that announced that they were tuned into the student radio site, before blending it out to the next song – a mellow R&B tune from BIGBANG called “Blue”. You pulled the headphones off and switched the mic to off before checking the volume controls and scrolling through the radio instant chat function to answer messages.
js_giraffe: U cheating on me for daytime?
You resisted the urge to roll your eyes as you typed back to Johnny, AKA your friend who hosted a late night rant/talk show on Wednesdays. Occasionally you put in a guest appearance if he needed someone to banter with on the topics of choice for the shows – most people found your dynamic with him hilarious, especially if he tried to switch accents while you called him out for being a loser.
Y/S/N: ha try Kris needed someone to show off for the tour groups.
js_giraffe: O.o The model DJ…
js_giraffe: I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!
Y/S/N: STFU
Y/S/N: It’s a one-time deal – get over your damn self!
“Now if you follow me, I’ll show you the mailroom,” the tour guide announced as she gestured to a hallway. Most of the families began to follow her to the next room while one young man lingered behind, tilting his head as he watched you switch between answering Johnny’s IMs and queuing more music for the remaining 15 minutes. He glanced over his shoulder at the group and quickly made up his mind to walk over to the glass separating you from him, tapping lightly on it.
You jerked your head up from looking at your laptop screen and held up a finger as you got up, making your way over to the entrance to the booth.
“Hi, may I help you?” you asked as you stuck your head out.
“Oh um ye-yeah!” the young man said. “How is the radio program here? Do you like it?” he asked with a faint accent.
“It’s a lot of fun,” you said slowly with a smile. “I really like it – this is my second year doing it. I started last spring and I’ve been doing it ever since. You can focus on any topic/style of show you want for the most part.” You frowned when you noticed the tour group was long gone.
“Oh I think you um-”
“I’ll find them – no worries,” he replied. He asked you more questions about the studio equipment, scheduling, requirements, etc. before you realized you were at the final 2 minutes of your program.
“Hang on, I need to close out the hour,” you apologized before running back into the station. You slipped the headphones on and turned the mic on, fading out the last song that was playing. “Looks like it’s last call gang – thanks for tuning into this special edition. I’ll catch you at my usual slot Friday night from 10-11 PM. Until then.” You turned off the mic and carefully unplugged your laptop, turning on instrumentals recorded in the station’s dashboard’s memory to fill the void while you packed up. Once you secured your bag on your shoulder, you headed to the door and frowned when you saw the young man was gone.
“So are you crossing this school off your list Joonie?” Yoongi asked his friend over the phone. “I mean, it’s kind of far and you don’t know a lot of English –“
“Actually I think I’m going to apply,” Namjoon replied with a grin as he leaned against the wall. “Campus is nice, professors seem decent, and I like their student life.”
“Wae?! But you can’t leave meeeeeeee!!!” the other male whined. “You’ll be too far away!”
“I think you can survive without me,” Namjoon chuckled as he ran a hand through his hair. “Besides, we can always call or Skype. Plus I’ll be home for the holidays.”
“But you have to apply first,” Seokjin interrupted, taking the phone from Yoongi. “There’s no guarantee this school will take you. Make sure you have back-ups in case.”
Namjoon snorted as he changed his phone to his other ear. He reassured Seokjin that he’d apply to a few local schools back home, just to be safe before hanging up and heading back to the area where the tour started. It was clear in his mind – he was getting in here no matter what.
“Welcome back,” Johnny greeted you as you took a seat in the auditorium beside him.
“Right back at you,” you replied, dropping your bag on the ground. “How was your summer?”
He shrugged and muttered that he split his time between Chicago and South Korea, thanks to his parents’ divorce. You listened as he described the tension during each stay, as both single parents had expressed their true feelings about one another to Johnny.
“Sorry Johnny,” you said with a sympathetic smile, “hey so, are you doing late night again?”
Johnny nodded and you confirmed that you were in again for another late night slot, as it was your favorite time to broadcast. You weren’t forced to be as strict with the profanity during timeslots closer to midnight and it was a fun way to get hyped for the weekend. Because this would be your third year of radio, you’d get first dibs on timeslots. A few days prior to the start of the new semester, you had gotten an e-mail from Kris asking if you wanted your old timeslot back, which you replied you did.
“All right guys! Can I have your attention please?” Kris called out, trying to regain control of the large group of students chattering away. He waited a few minutes before speaking again.
“Welcome to University Radio Club,” he began, “if you’re here because you’re taking radio as an elective or just because you want to, you’re in the right place. We meet every other week here at 9 PM – attendance is mandatory for those taking this as an elective. If you are brand new to radio, we’ll start taking sign ups for timeslots via e-mail. Please send us your top three choices and we’ll let you know if any are available. Past DJs will get first choice. Any questions so far?”
“The D-bag’s not doing radio anymore, right?” Johnny whispered as he leaned closer to you.
You shrugged, trying to seem indifferent. The “D-bag” in question was your ex, who cheated on you for two sorority chicks during a Greek life party. You swore he purposely chose the timeslot after you so he could saunter in and ruin your good mood with his presence, as his show was after yours for 3 semesters.
“I’ll deal with it like usual,” you muttered as you watched Kris start discussing the history of radio to the students taking this for credit.
“Welcome back to your place for top hits, fresh sounds, and jams to get you in the mood for your weekend – this is Nocturnal Beats!” you said into the mic with a smile. “Hope everyone stayed cool this summer. The bell may have rung but the fun’s never ending – I’ve got some new sounds to share from EXO and Twenty One Pilots so keep it here for this hour.”
Once you switched off the microphone, your phone buzzed with a text from Kris.
Galaxy
I’ll buy you a drink this weekend if you can do a last minute training for the rookie coming in after you.
Sent 10:07 PM
You
Fine.
Sent 10:08 PM
Hang on – rookie? Not Y/E/N?
Sent 10:08 PM
Galaxy
Nah he never answered my e-mail about radio this semester. This guy’s a first year – asked specifically for this slot.
Sent 10:09 PM
Tall, blonde hair in an undercut, name’s Namjoon Kim. He’s doing a rap show.
Sent 10:10 PM
You frowned as you re-read the texts and typed back a simple OK to Kris. Well, you could breathe easy – no asshole ex to deal with this semester. But you were surprised this kid got a prime spot – most first timers weren’t so lucky and would get an afternoon slot or an early morning time. Albeit his radio show content was probably better suited for nighttime versus editing out every curse word and innuendo possible. You’d meet him soon enough.
You shuttled a few IMs to Johnny and tore your gaze away from your laptop to see a tall Asian guy approaching the station, eerily fitting the description Kris texted you. He was busy typing something on his phone as he approached the radio station, walking into the door with a thud.
You blinked as you scrambled to your feet, eyes wide as he staggered back a few steps, wincing and cursing in Korean as he touched his forehead. Without wasting more time, you queued up a few more songs and a bumper before opening the door and checking on him.
“Hey you okay?”
“Huh? Oh yeah, yeah I’m fine,” he said as he pushed his dark framed glasses up on his nose. He shot you a sheepish smile and put his phone away in his pocket.
You studied him thoughtfully, examining his features. He looked awfully familiar…
“Hey so Y/N right? I don’t know you if you remember me, well I had dark hair last time we met, but um…” he trailed off, a shy smile on his face.
“Hang on, were you the guy who got left behind by the tour group to ask me questions about the radio station?” you recalled as you stepped out of the doorway. “Last semester in mid-March, right?”
He nodded as his smile spread across his face, resulting in the cutest dimples on his cheeks. You blinked as you silently compared the previous image you had of him in your mind to the guy standing before you now. He was cute then but with the blonde color and new haircut, he looked hot. It also sounded like his English had improved and the lingering trace of his accent was barely noticeable. Summer sure was kind to him…
“Wow I didn’t know you got in – congrats!” you replied as you nudged the door open wider, letting him into the station waiting room. “Welcome to university! I can’t believe you decided to take up radio too.”
Namjoon stepped through the doorway and watched as you closed the door to the station. “Well, it’s a funny story,” he began as he shoved his hands into his pockets. “A really chill DJ was doing a special show during my tour visit and she had a really hot voice. I was kind of a loser just staring at her and asking her dumb questions about radio, but she was so patient and really nice. So I felt encouraged to apply – I mean, I liked the classes and the professors too, but hearing this DJ was like the icing on the cake. I wanted to come here and do radio too. Maybe run into her again.”
You ducked your head and smiled, crossing your arms over your chest. “You found me Namjoon,” you replied.
He squared his shoulders and allowed a slightly cocky smile to cross his lips. “Rap Monster. No DJ, just Rap Monster around here.”
You contemplated his moniker and nodded in approval.
“It suits you,” you said. “Well you’ll go live for your first show in 10 minutes – think you’re ready?”
He removed his glasses from his nose and swapped them for a pair of dark wayfarers, pushing them up on his nose.
“Bring it on Y/DJ/N.”

How To Plan A Phenomenal Home Improvement Project
New Post has been published on http://mydecoradvice.com/homedecor/how-to-plan-a-phenomenal-home-improvement-project/
How To Plan A Phenomenal Home Improvement Project
There are a lot of resources out there when it comes to home improvement, so it is hard to know where to turn. Some basic tips are outlined below that will enable you to find success and satisfaction in your own home improvement projects.
Add shutters to the outside windows on your home for a dramatic change in architecture. If your exterior looks a bit drab or flat, you can use this simple tip to give it much more depth and interest. Paint them a coordinating color to your house, often the color of the front door.
Fun Outdoor Water Game! How to Build a Soaker Seat

"Anyone else out there having a hot summer?! I’ve got a solution for ya! Let me show yall how I made the Soaker Seat. The idea is based off the traditional dunk tanks where when somebody hits the target, the victim gets wet. But instead of falling into a tank of water, this dumps […] The post Fun Outdoor Water Game! Fun is essential to home improvement. If you are willing to do careful work and spend your valuable time, you should also be doing something that you fell good about. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, you will likely make mistakes. If you do not enjoy doing your home improvement project, hiring a professional might be the best alternative.
Never neglect an electrical system upgrade when you are making home improvements preparatory to selling your house. Older houses are woefully unequipped for the demands of modern appliances and electronics. Even recently-built homes may lack the power systems that the latest gadgets require. Installing a fully up-to-date electrical service will make your home stand out to potential buyers.
Prior to beginning work on any electrical appliance or lighting fixture, make sure the circuit breaker switch for that area of the house is turned off. Leaving the power on will leave everyone vulnerable to live wires and possible electrocution.
Throw your plastic shower curtain in the wash! Add a few clothes so they will swirl around with it and give it a good scrubbing. Even the most inexpensive shower curtains will survive one or two washings. You keep them out of the landfill and at the same time brighten up that tired bathroom!

In order to save money on air conditioning costs during the summer, try installing ceiling fans. Ceiling fans recirculate air within a room, cooling it down without the need for turning on a central air system. They are relatively easy to install and can be installed in place of your lighting fixture.
Begin your home improvement projects in the kitchen, where owners can see up to a 500% return on their investment. To give the room a fresh, clean look, paint the cabinets white and replace the hardware. Also focus on the counters; stay away from tile and purchase granite or imitation stone.
Poke holes in your wall paper bubbles! Sometimes bubbles form when you are hanging wallpaper and you don't notice them until it's too late to pull the paper back and correct them. All is not lost! Just use a pin to pierce each bubble then carefully flatten it out against the wall.

"Just as often as I’m asked about all of the “pretties” (throw pillows, lighting, etc.) in our bedrooms, I get questions about the details of our bedding basics. Update your kitchen cabinets. If you are on a tight budget, a simple way to update your kitchen cabinets and drawers is by replacing the hardware. Knobs and pulls are available in a style to suit every one's taste, from contemporary to vintage to traditional. When you replace the hardware, don't forget to clean your cabinets thoroughly. You will be surprised how many people think that you have actually replaced your cabinets!
If you travel frequently and leave your house unattended, consider installing timer lights in your home. These lights come on according to a programmed schedule – giving the appearance that the home is occupied – even when it is not. This is an effective deterrent for would-be burglars who look for unoccupied homes when hunting for potential targets.
Building or buying a window box for windows in the front of your house is a very effective way to add color and visual interest to a drab exterior. A filled planter can be very heavy, so make sure that you use cleats to secure the box to the house. You can update the look by planting seasonal herbs, flowers, or grasses.
If you live in a hot climate, replace your original glass windows with low-E glass, which can make it easier and more affordable to cool your house in the boiling summertime. Although the installation can be a bit pricey if you pay someone to do it, you will recoup your costs in energy savings by the end of the summer.

Move furnishings away from the walls to make the room appear bigger. This makes it seem that the room is larger while creating a more modern and contemporary ambiance.
If you have a dark colored kitchen it would be in your best interest to lighten things up. Many people do not want to buy homes that have kitchens with dark colors. If you are worried about selling you home at some point them you need to keep that in mind.
Get new window treatments. Window treatments are a cheap, fast way to change the appearance of a room, and something as simple as replacing window treatments can help you re-imagine a space. Stick to fabrics and materials that are easy to clean, and you'll be on the way to great window coverings that look great.
A great home improvement tip is to find some inspiration as soon as possible. If you wait until you are trying to pay for materials and complete a project, you will be very stressed out. You will reduce a lot of stress from renovating your home if you just take the time to plan now instead of later.
For an easy way to update your home, consider covering dated popcorn ceilings with plaster. All you need is a bucket of joint compound, a wide putty knife for spreading the mud, and plenty of patience. You can create a smooth surface over the popcorn or get creative with the way you apply the mud, and you can paint over the plaster for a modern look.
Renovating your home on your own can provide you with many benefits. Making a solid plan from helpful information is an essential part of doing your home improvement project the right way. This can reduce errors in the future.

When Keeping Up with the Kardashians debuted on E! in 2007, Rob Kardashian had the world on a string. But after splitting with pop star Rita Orain 2012, he turned to junk food to cope, and as his weight ballooned, his self-esteem evaporated. Kardashian was reportedly even afraid to step out in public and be photographed. “If I don't get some. This together, they won't want to like hang around everybody, y'know what I'm saying?” But by 2018, he managed to finally shed some pounds and get back within reach of his ideal weight. So just how did he do it? This is Rob Kardashian's dramatic weight loss transformation. Trending with milkshakes By 2014, Kardashian was making headlines for all the wrong reasons. In a now deleted throwback Instagram post,he revealed that his problem worsened when he started drinking milkshakes. His weight gain was so dramatic that he wound up trending on Twitter because of it. He wrote, in a series of since-deleted tweets: “So I found out I was trending for being fat. Thank you all it really made my day. [. ] I'm aware that I'm fat that def ain't surprise to me lol and my only therapy will be in the gym, anyways had to say something. ” Too fat for the cameras Kardashian's Twitter rant came just days before his sister, Kim Kardashian, was due to marry rapper Kanye West in Italy. Despite making it all the way to Paris, he ended up flying straight back to LA because he didn't want to be seen at the ceremony. “When Rob flew to Paris, he read some nasty comments about himself, and he just didn't feel comfortable, and he didn't wanna see all my guests. ” According to TMZ, Rob had, become so insecure and depressed about his appearance [that] he refused to be in the family wedding pics, despite his family encouragement. ” Kardashian confessed to People, “I'm 6'1″ and at my most I probably weighed300 pounds. There were cameras at the airport on our trip there, and I was very unhappy with the person I saw in all the pictures. ” A little ‘tough love' When newlywed sister Kim returned to the States, she told Andy Cohen that Rob sent her “a long email” on the morning of her wedding explaining his reasons for bailing. But Kim wasn't feeling sympathetic, saying, “I try to encourage him and once you just don't make that change for so long and it's not happening, I get frustrated. ” And Kim isn't the only Kardashian to have lost her patience with Rob. Sister Khloé told People in 2015, “I've been really trying, but I have my moments, and I do snap. I've offered to get a chef, I'm like, ‘What'your excuse?' But it's not just that. I can't win life for Rob. I have to wait until [he's] ready to do it for himself. ” Passing on rehab Rumors started circulating in 2014 that Kardashian was headed to weight loss camp. But he quickly shot down that story, in a since-deleted tweet, writing, “To the blogs saying I went to fat camp or rehab, LOL. Then why am I still fat you fools? Y'all must have run out of real news. ” The Kardashians tried to stage a family intervention, but as soon as Rob caught wind of the plan, he split. An insider told Radar Online in 2017, “He's refusing rehab, he doesn't want any fat farms, no more therapists, no more interventions, diets, and meddling sisters. Serious concerns Rob is said to have suffered from depression ever since the death of his biological father in 2003, with his weight issues only making matters worse. In a 2015 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, his mother, Kris Jenner, said she fears the worst is yet to come, admitting, “If I don't help him do something drastic,he's going to die. ” She later told a therapist on the show, “It's just like you're waiting for this horrible thing to happen and there's nothing you can do about it. ” A devastating diagnosis By the end of 2015, Rob's weight was threatening his life. In December of that year, he has rushed to hospital after falling ill, due to complications from diabetes. According to TMZ, Rob then became determined to shed the extra weight and get healthy in the new year, but one whistleblower claimed his lifestyle only got worse. The insider told Radar Online, “He thinks nothing of having two or three tubs [of ice cream] in the afternoon. It's wreaking havoc on his diabetes, not to mention the added stress the weight is putting on his heart. ” Hiding out Rob reportedly became so disheartened about his appearance that he withdrew from society altogether, holing up in his mom's house and becoming a total recluse. But Khloe told Wonderwall in March 2015 that his issues weren't just physical ones. She said, “Over the last year, Rob has become very introverted and has a kind of social anxiety. I know he can get to that happy place and will. ” A few weeks later, Kim revealed her thoughts about Rob on Today, saying, “I think he's just going through a phase where he's not comfortable in his own skin. He is working really hard to get back to where he really wants to be. ” But Rob's friends weren't so sure he could do it. One insider revealed to Hollywood Life, “His weight affects his mood, and then his mood affects his motivation to eat well and work out, it's a vicious cycle. ” Support from the pros While those closest to Rob were warning him about his weight; there was one person who thought he was fine just the way he was. Rob's former Dancing with the Stars partner Cheryl Burke told the Allegedly podcast of his fluctuating weight: “I'm surprised that he's making it a bigger deal than it is. Cause I think that it's fine. ” Losing it with Blac Chyna Rob finally managed to get his diabetes under control in 2016, according to CNN. It was the first big victory in his battle with obesity, but Rob didn't do it alone. He revealed that his romance with model Blac Chyna turned out to be the catalyst he needed in order to make positive changes. He told People at the time, “She's surrounded me with a lot of positivity. From the moment we met, I knew I wanted to be more than friends. ” According to TMZ, his new flame encouraged him to cut carbs and red meat, and hit the gym five days a week, with no cheat days. With her help, he was able to shed an impressive40 pounds. Packing it on, again Blac Chyna gave birth to Rob's daughter, DreamKardashian, in November 2016, but less than a year later, the two separated under very nasty circumstances. “So yeah, I am not feeling so good. ” After the breakup, Rob started to pack on the pounds. A friend told Radar Online, “He's the biggest he's ever been. He's well over 300 pounds now [. ] and his a heart attack waiting to happen. ” Radar's source claimed Rob had been “comforting big time”, and claimed, “He's got major anger and addiction issues, brought on by a chronic lack of self-esteem over his looks and his position in the family. He's lost the will to live, and if it wasn't his little girl, he'd probably not have made it. ” According to The Belfast Telegraph, Kim allegedly urged mom Kris to stop “enabling” Rob's unhealthy lifestyle with financial support. Baby motivation According to Hollywood Life, Rob started joiningKylie for workouts every other day as she aimed to shed her baby weight, after giving birth to daughter Stormi in February 2018. Before long, he was looking slimmer than he had in years. A source revealed, “Seeing the weight fall off has been huge in helping Rob get his confidence back. Kylie challenged and pushed Rob to be better for Dream, and that's all the motivation he needed. ” The insider claimed Rob finally agreed on to stick to his diet, though having a young child in the house has helped amp up the activity level. The source claimed, “Rob is staying disciplined and sticking with a strict nutritional program that he's been put on to get his weight down as well, and it makes it easier for him since Dream keeps him pretty active already. He's having a blast chasing her around. ” Fans got to see Instagram evidence of Rob'weight loss, on his 31st birthday in March 2018. Did he secretly get surgery? As of June 2018, skinny Rob is back. But did he really lose all that weight through exercise and healthy eating as he claims? According to court documents obtained by theDaily Mail, Blac Chyna alleged Rob underwent a series of cosmetic procedures at costs totaling$100,000. Chyna reportedly made those claims while defending herself against allegations that she had deceived sponsors by going under the knife. Whatever the case, we're hoping Rob is feeling happy and healthy these days
