I'm not seeing enough deep-dive nonsense about the new Good Omens season 2 poster drop on my dash, and by god that means I must be the one to deliver it.
For those who haven't seen it yet, behold:
Tumblr media
...there's a lot in here to go a wee bit feral over, if one was so inclined, and lord knows I love an inclination.
The Obvious Stuff
1. There Was Only One Bed Chair
This is the bulk of the commentary I've seen, and tbh, it's pretty great. "I am bored/busy and ignoring you but also what is personal space, never heard of her, we will not be taking questions at this time."
Notably, however, this is the second time we've seen them back to back-- the majority of the poster art we saw for the first season had them side by side. In both cases they're in a position to face some third thing together-- the difference, perhaps, is that side by side might imply equality of situation, while back to back implies implicit trust that the other won't stab you there.
2. The bookshop
Aw, look at them. Look at it. What a glorious little mess. This is them in London. Arizaphale looks pleased with the situation; Crowley looks bored af but he's also squished up on that one dang chair, so there's a "cat sitting next to you because parallel play and mirroring are the Best Interactions" feel to it.
3. Tea and wine
Arizaphale's got a teacup, Crowley's got a wine glass, this is very Them and indicative of their Vibes. Tbh, I think this is just a nice bit of design work, but it's worth calling out.
4. The outside street
The shop across the way is using a Gothic and reads "GIVE ME" before being cut off. No clue what it means, but it probably means something.
5. The tagline
The previous tagline we got was "Something's going down in the Up" (with that grey feather falling between their black and white wings)-- this tagline reads "Everyday it's a-getting closer."
Easiest interpretation is, oho, we're getting closer to the second season, and gosh there will be some Plot in it. And sure, yes, it works for that too, huzzah. But leaving aside the "it" and what that may mean-- "a-getting" is a fascinating word choice. It evokes similar constructions like, say, the somewhat obscure "Sumer is icumen in" (a song about the changing of the seasons and also encouraging a cuckoo to go lay some eggs in other birds nests if u no wat im sayin eyyyyy)-- and the significantly less obscure protest song "The Times They Are A-Changin'", whose ending stanza is:
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'
Gosh.
Now the Real Fun Starts
This poster is a composite image (as so many ads are), composed of different bits and pieces to form a whole impression -- based on fun stuff like relative pixelation and whatnot, you can often tell what portions of an image were there to start with, and what were specifically added in after the fact. How packed this poster is in tiny details -- which is exactly where I would hide fun hints to things -- is generally a cue for me to take a closer look, and I have been, I think, rewarded.
1. The books with legible titles
Zoom in on Aziraphale's book-- he's reading Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. The "two cities" in play are Paris and London, and the book is set before and during the French Revolution.
It's the story of a man who had been previously imprisoned in the Bastille for 18 years, and then was released to go live with his daughter -- who he has never met, what with the whole "imprisoned" thing -- in London.
The opening paragraph is:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
The pile of books in the foreground have two visible titles: the topmost one is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (a "novel of manners" that's considered a heavy-hitting romantic classic, and also yes the leads are both prideful and prejudiced and it takes an entire book for them to clear that up) and Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island (a young adult coming-of-age adventure story about a kid who finds himself on an adventure with a bunch of pirates to discover buried treasure).
Of note: A Tale of Two Cities, Pride and Prejudice, and Treasure Island also all have note tabs sticking out of them, and are the only books that have them. This is reminiscent of how Arizaphale studied and referenced Agnes Nutter's prophecies.
Some of the books beneath the window technically have titles, but they appear to be about as pixelated as the rest of that section, and so I suspect they're just part of the scenery.
Similarly, most of the books on the background shelves are like that as well, except:
Joseph Heller's Catch-22 (A satirical novel set in World War II; Wikipedia briefly explains that "the novel examines the absurdity of war and military life through the experiences of Yossarian and his cohorts, who attempt to maintain their sanity while fulfilling their service requirements so that they may return home." The book also coined the phrase "catch-22," which is a situation someone can't escape because of paradoxical rules-- in the case of the book, you can't ask to be evaluated for insanity so that you can be exempt from flying dangerous missions, because "anyone who wants to get out of combat duty isn't really crazy.")
Iain Banks's The Crow Road (and a first edition, perhaps? I haven't read it, but apparently it's a Scottish family drama about a perfect murder against the backdrop of the 1990s Gulf War. Its opening line is "It was the day my grandmother exploded." The phrase "the crow road" is a euphemism, in the book, for death.)
Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim (Sparknotes says it's "the story of a man named Marlow's struggle to tell and to understand the life story of a man named Jim" -- a young man who goes to sea, makes a terrible and cowardly decision while following his leaders, and then spends the rest of his life haunted by it.)
There's at least one extra, partially obscured title:
Tumblr media
It appears to read "THE BODY ------ and ------", which makes me wonder if it's an anthology of murder mystery short stories.
Leaving aside the uncertain book, commonalities between many of these books include:
soldiers, war, and the horrors/absurdities thereof
doubles and parallels
death and murder
a young/inexperienced protagonist thrown in with more experienced/weirder folk
fragmented and out of order narratives, sometimes having to be pieced together from multiple viewpoints
...pirates
2. The strange but noticeable inserts
There are several images that have been inserted into the poster that -- unlike the teacup and wine glass mentioned above -- don't seem to make a lot of contextual sense and are therefore, perhaps, extra information. These include:
a. the three lizard boys
Tumblr media Tumblr media
b. the broken smartphone
Tumblr media
c. the matchbox with the quote on the side
Tumblr media
d. the camera
Tumblr media
e. this statuette that seems suspicious
Tumblr media
f. this record and scroll that seem out of place
Tumblr media
g. the clockface with the missing hand (which may be just for the Aesthetic, but whatever, I'm including it)
Tumblr media
What do they mean? No clue. I suspect it will become apparent as we get trailers and/or the actual show.
In Conclusion
Uh.
Look. Design teams can do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons. All of this could mean absolutely nothing.
But.
Using my magical powers of bullshit deduction, I might look at all this, and that grey feather falling from the earlier poster, and say... well... the war's still ongoing, yeah? So maybe... maybe there needs to be a new angel keeping an eye on things on Earth. Or an eye specifically on Aziraphale and Crowley.
And that would look SUSPICIOUS, right? So this is an angel who's maybe... a little bit Fallen. For the sake of the Mission. Like, they've agreed to sin just a lil bit, just enough to justify being thrown out of Heaven, and they're not actively in Hell because they're, oh, just stopping off, or maybe just going really slowly, or maybe they were sent back up from Hell because they were still "too good" and all that Pureness of Spirit was stinking up the place--
Whatever. Point is, they're on Earth, they're very confused, it sure would be nice if these very Established metaphysical elders could give them a few hints about how to get on. We'd then get to enjoy a Guide to Living a Totally Normal Human Life given by these two disaster dorks, plus whatever nonsense is derived from, idk, various extraneous plot shenanigans, probably involving a Murder and maybe a MacGuffin Maltese Falcon.
And most importantly: this new angel? Wow no they couldn't possibly be a spy because again WOW, what kind of angel would deliberately Fall? Wouldn't that require doing the wrong thing to do a right thing? ...okay maybe, but can it really be wrong if it was done by command? ...well, wait, it surely must be wrong because otherwise the mechanism wouldn't have worked-- but then, wait, which thing was the wrong thing--
And Aziraphale and Crowley would watch this bouncing volley of cognitive dissonance with great interest, also possibly while holding hands.

“no one owes you anything” correct. if you don’t write for readers or socialization through interests, do not ask for recognizance and reblogs. we don’t owe you that. if writing is purely to indulge yourself in fandom & for your fixations, you don’t ask for a fucking thing. do not expect notoriety and admiration for this anymore. if you can’t complete something you’ve committed to already to a multitude of people, don’t do it? don’t say you will with schedules and promises just to fall short? you cannot demand every reader and follower to comment on your eloquent authoring, reblogging every thing you write when it’s your interest, and interacting with you. not when you don’t respect the people who have given you a platform and the opportunity to spout ignorance. you can be multifandom, you can stop writing when you don’t want to, you can no longer take requests if it’s just for your passion and fandom fixation. don’t expect more than what you give. deleting fics out of embarrassment, unfinished work, ignored comments and asks, and a shitty dash is all a choice you can make. maybe ask for critique and commentary AFTER you COMPLETE something and not with a bunch of unfinished work and not fall short on promises. AFTER you have respectful conversations. we’re done lol.
Tumblr media
I can feel the pettiness coming off this omg. I can smell the "I have never written a fic in my whole life" energy.
I don't have the energy to respond to each point individually, but like - omg.
Someone's a little cranky that I haven't announced the date for the final chapter of Careful even though it's finished in my drafts.
And I wanna move on to other creative pursuits for a minute (to get some creative satisfaction after all of the demanding, entitled attitudes over that fic) before posting it so that I don't have to be bombarded with comments about how people are upset that the series is over - cause I will be fucking glad that it's over.
Also the people who have given me a "platform to spout ignorance?" This blog has less than half the followers of my writing blog, so if people don't wanna see my actual personality or don't wanna see me rightfully point out the unfair treatment of authors from the demanding tiktok brainwashed masses, then they don't have to listen to me or follow me here in order to read my personal posts. They can just follow my other blog for fanfiction posts only.
And last point - I have never deleted fics out of embarrassment. I deleted my blog to escape harassment like this and untintionally deleted unsaved fics along with it. All of the fics that I have put hard work into - even ones that I am not incredibly proud of anymore that might not represent my current style and skill level - are on AO3. (Like what fic are you even upset about? One of those random 200 word blurbs that I wrote half asleep that I don't even consider to be a fic - just a spouting of my ideas?)
Anyway, the more comments like this I get, the longer I am just tempted to hold onto the last chapter of Careful and wait to post it - months from now, years from now. Idk. Who knows. I'll just give what I get 💖💕

Do you RP anywhere else, other than tumblr?
I doo. I rp on some forums, but they're primarily more geared towards original settings and some other fandoms. I'm not as heavily invested into them.
Is there any other muse in this fandom you RP?
I've contemplated trying some muses. I do feel weird about trying out some new ones in case they don't exactly stick or aren't really requested. Not to mention who others write or canons I actually have rps with. I've thought about writing Y'shtola, Asahi, and Fandaniel before. The latter because he's my emotional support ascian despite what an ass he is. Otherwise tho? No.
Do you have ship bias?
With my oc's yeah. Some canon's also yeah. Some personalities just mesh better with others. Some I can see with anyone like G'raha, Aymeric, or Emet. Ardbert I feel like could be shipped with most characters within reason and actual build up. Venat/Hydaelyn I don't really ship with anyone and have tenatively labeled her as ace in my head. I'm open to seeing if that changes but it would have to be like a chemistry + plotting type deal.
What’s a ship you don’t want to roleplay at all with this muse? (except Bad Illegal And Gross Stuff, of course)
^ Nothing really. Most of my notps are involving characters I don't actually write as.
What do you think of your muse’s popular fandom ship?
I mean, my warriors of light and their popular ships all make sense. Ardbert I don't think has one that's popular? if he does I haven't dug into it much shrug emoji.
What do you think of your muse’s canon ship, if they have one?
They don't, luckily. Ngl I generally dislike canon ships to some extent because it's rare I actually like them. But I am that ass with unpopular shipping opinions(TM).
Are you interested into poly relationships for your muse?
POSSIBLY. I'm generally okay with poly ships if it's three characters between two people. When more people get involved it raises the possibility of drama and I'm too old and laid back. Some muses gravitate more easily to it than others - e.g. - Amara with caveats since she's an extremely jealous and possessive person when push comes to shove and would have to be the star of the show for lack of a better description. Evan is more open to being loving to everyone, without labels or settling down, which is an easy way for people to get hurt icly. Ardbert, I'm not sure on.
Do you regularly do dash commentaries?
Nah. I'm more likely to do them on my other blog since I have a tiny friend group over there. Here I just kind of vibe and go with the flow. I only talk too…two people on discord about rp related things? So I usually don't get inspired to do it and I also don't usually read other people's rp unless a word catches my interest. Or pretty graphics. I read ooc stuff, character headcanons, etc.
Do you feel similar to your muse in any way?
Sort of. Each of them has tiny bits inspired by me or my thoughts/feelings/headcanons that are either overemphasized for differences or under-emphasized. Evan has most of my preferred classes in xiv as her specializations. Her hair color is my favorite color. She tends to be very tomboy-ish like I am. Amara is a xiv-ified version of an oc i've had forever and tweak to whatever setting I want to reinvent her in. She has my interest in technology and general cynical view towards the world and other people.

You ask I deliver — both tfatws asks in one!
tfatws weekly ask 1
i finally saw ep1!! i wont be able to see ep2 until thursday at the earliest but i already have some Thots on this ep. here are the ones I remember
first is, and i'm so sorry for this, a grammar lesson. an appositive is when you stick an additional phrase in between commas, dashes, or the like. i actually just used one! the "and i'm so sorry for this" in the first sentence of this paragraph is an appositive. thing is, most english speakers don't normally use them when they speak, only in writing. so i'm always on high alert whenever i hear somebody in tv or movies use one. (it's generally a marker of bad screenwriting). anyway there was one right in the beginning of the episode. the white army guy yelling at sam wilson said "first lieutenant Torres, our intel officer, will be helping on the ground." yeah so. the writing of this series started out on the wrong foot for me. but the rest of the episode was obviously tons and tons better (every interview i see with malcolm spellman makes me love him more and more)
the contrast between the opening minutes (falcon action sequence) and the rest of the ep.... i would 100000/10 rather watch a series with just sam and bucky dealing with life. i dont give a single crap about the flag-smashers or any of that. i just want sam, sarah & fam getting their boating business back on the ground & yeeting racist dickwads, bucky going through therapy and making amends, sam and joaquin being bros, sambucky homoerotic tension, etc.
the cinnamontography! wandavision mostly used cinematography to signify era n stuff. tfatws doesn't have wv's premise to go off of, so here's some tricks i noticed:
with sam there's obviously all sorts of shots with the captain america iconography next to his face, but he hasn't totally claimed it. there's the mural of steve rogers in the background; there's sam staring into the shield like it's a spectre of steve's face; there's sam looking into the exhibit, the shield and sam separated by glass and a layer of camera focus. steve is a constant spectre, always there, an idea, a symbol himself. sam's relationship with this iconography is distanced. he is separated by glass exhibit walls. by painting canvases. he doesn't yet feel worthy to take on that iconography. this whole thing was pulled off quite well but also a bit on-the-nose if only in quantity. there's just sooooo much fancy iconography stuff
speaking of the exhibit, there's something that i get real pissy about. it's when like, there's an action going on you're supposed to be paying attention to but the cinematographer is like,,,, hey! check out this location! or this headline! or something! there was a lot of that in the exhibit. the camera was like, you could focus on sam and rhodey's convo (which was fine but could have been so much better with an extra like 10 minutes of deep character study talk) but noooo you want me to look at the symbol for the united nations and read all the text about bucky who hasn't even showed up yet. shut up i know the lore and ill watch the shot-by-shot breakdown yt vids you don't have to make the shot this long jkdsalcjklasejf
my fav trick was with bucky and the therapist. i had seen a clip of the scene with bucky and the therapist beforehand and i thought the cinnamontography was super obnoxious, but then i was like, oh duh. the shots frequently change the distance between the camera and its subject. sometimes it's uncomfortably close and sometimes it's really far. a clear allegory for the duality of therapy, esp for bucky! therapy is an invasive process wherein he is ruthlessly examined, picked apart, and berated for his trauma (this therapist is crap in every way btw, "mean therapist" works for greg house and greg house only). so the camera goes close. it makes the viewer claustrophobic like bucky. but when he's like "no i haven't had any nightmares" the camera suddenly goes really far. we see bucky as this tiny head in the center of the bottom of the frame. we are distanced from him. he has pushed us away. we cannot see him. he lies because he is vulnerable. so yeah, amazing work there. the therapy scene was hard to watch on purpose!
did bucky slip a note to yori inside the dollar bill? bucky stop making me emooooo. the suuper awkward fake smile has me 😭 (veteran trying to adjust!)
mark my worrrrds when sam asks someone y the govt picked john “white bread” walker they’re gonna say “we needed somebody everyone can get behind....someone uncontroversial, someone everyone can see themselves in” like that exact racist dog whistle
tfatws weekly ask 2
just saw ep2 so im taking advantage of the 2 seconds i can be on tumblr without worrying about tfatws spoilers before new episode drops
when isaiah said "your people put me in prison for being a hero" and bucky thought "your people" means hydra. 🤦‍♂️
speaking of racism, the interplay between sam being Black (anti-Black racism) and sam being the Falcon (negrophilia, "can i take a selfie w you as i deny you a loan?") and the intersection between the two (j*hn lichrally called sam "steve's wingman"! he takes the crypto out of crypto-racist in like 2 seconds!) !!!!!!!! a Black celebrity's Black experience, the separation of man and identity!!!! (thinking about vanessa bayer in snl in that skit "beyonce is black" telling her black friend "you're not black, you're...my girl!")
after sam gets racially profiled by cops we see j*hn standing in front of cop cars cinematic parallels turns out j*hn is racist who knew
this therapist sucks major ass but she got bucky and sam together in the same room and ready to collaborate...that's something ig. it was lichrally couple's therapy she said she used her miracle exercise with couples sambucky antis get blended
bucky says "he was wrong about you so maybe he was wrong about me"...that's not how people talk. when therapist asks bucky, the guy who doesn't talk at all about himself, "y do you hate sam", the last thing bucky's gonna do is actually connect his hatred of sam to his own self-worth issues. bucky generally refuses to talk about himself, so why would he talk about himself in the one context that nobody ever links back to their own neuroses: hatred of other people? one thing human beings hate most is admitting we're wrong. admitting you hate someone because of your own issues? that's a major therapeutic step. bucky would absolutely have to be prompted to do that. even like one or two lines of dialogue more would have set up that line better. but in terms of the actual thought? an amazing way to take the sam/bucky relationship. bucky bases his self-worth on steve believing in him, and if steve is wrong bucky has no self-worth, so 1) he has to develop self-worth disassociated from steve's assessment of him and 2) he has to love himself before he can love sam, and 3) he has to realize that sam giving up the shield is a sign of sam's humility not his unworthiness.
conversely, we don't get into why sam hates bucky? yeah sam has the right to hate a guy that has tried to kill him (albeit while brainwashed) multiple times, and now shows up in his life just to bash him but. everything happens so fast i cant follow their relationship
in fact i dont feel like i understood much of anything. like y did bucky and sam go on that mission together? how connected are sam/bucky/joaquin with the government? doesn't bucky just want to retire now? literally what is everyone doing/feeling and why???
if battlestar becomes a knowing commentary on the black best friend stereotype i'm gonna party, but i dont expect much of that
the interplay between man and symbol. captain america is obviously a symbol. the shield is obviously a symbol. but steve rogers? the. man behind the cowl? he too seems to become a symbol. a paragon of a good guy, so good he's unreachable. steve was just a guy stop idolizing him the last thing steve would want is to be idolized
as the resident musician/music nerd on mcublr, 1) that captain america rally music slaps, but 2) re: the song at the end of the ep, if you're just gonna rip off mozart's lacrymosa then at least play mozart's lacrymosa. we wont blame you the lacrymosa slaps (if you dont know what im talking about go on yt and search it up youll recognize it fo sho
look i love enfys nest as much as the next guy but if tfatws is gonna get erin kellyman to play another innocent little gurl blackmailed into the fakeout-villain position (her text seemed to suggest as such) then 😡 like why can't women just....be evil? young, freckly, innocent-looking women? girls are not untouchable pure objects but full of rage and resentment just as much as anyone can be
bonus ep1 comment: bucky says about that senator whose car he hijacked, "she continued to abuse the power i gave her." fictionaldarling on yt say that he says "i" because he can't disassociate himself from his winter soldier persona which begets endless and senseless guilt. like dude. can i not be emo for like 1 second.
OKay. First off, as much I enjoy your sending it to me, what made you decide to send me these??

TFATWS WA #1
Don't worry about getting this to me as early as possible. I usually don't watch the episode right away.
1. Cool writing lesson.
2. Everyone wants a comedy show [like Friends] about the MCU superheroes.
3. Cinematography is always a beautiful thing.
4. Sam definitely has to carve his own Captain America status for himself, outside of Steve's ya know everything.
5. They have to do that for people who was just now tuning in because they're in love with Sam Wilson or Sharon Carter.
6. I think the therapist was taking a 'tough love' approach for Bucky, because she likely has some very strong opinions about the literal assassin she's been assigned to give therapy too. She did not choose to talk to him, she was assigned that make that clear in the second episode.
And, Bucky isn't lying when he said it wasn't a nightmare. It wasn't a nightmare, it was a resurfaced memory. So, technically he wasn't lying - and yes, the camera does move away because while he's saying he didn't have a nightmare, he's not expanding on what actually happened - so, he's still pushing the therapist/us away.
7. Bucky, and Steve, have/had a TON to adjust to.
8. Yeah, I agree that will be the bullshit line they give. If they ever actually talk about it.
TFATW WA #2
Yeah, always got to take advantage of avoiding those spoilers lmfaoo.
1. Honestly, that line was double meaning. Both about White people and Hydra [which is made up of mostly white supremacists/nazis] So, the line is gesturing to both White People in general and Hydra assholes together. I think the terminology is “double edge sword”??
2. This whole paragraph structure confused me, ngl - so I'm going to answer it the best I can. I do like that they're not ignoring the fact that Sam being Black is 1000% the reason he's not the Official Captain America - because the gov't is racist as hell.
I also like the little lines about how they point out little things about Sam's Falcon persona, like that kid calling him 'Black Falcon' specifically and Sam's response show the split between Sam and Falcon itself.
John is a dick for calling Sam the wingman of Steve Rogers. Sam was a hero all on his own before Steve asked him to join up again. [Side note, it's lichrally??]
3. Exactly, the parallel of Sam being profiled and surrounded while just on the street and John being surrounded by fans and being able to spring Bucky with apparently only a few sentences shows a Loooooot
4. Honestly, at this point I wonder if she's not actually a therapist and is just an agent assigned to assess Bucky outside of an Official Building. I do know, however, that her 'look at each other and speak' exercise is actually a real therapy practice. It's just a little slower.
5. Actually, I think he would've blurted that out. That whole line. I don't think Bucky hates Sam. I think they could've done the scene better, but I think that had Sam prodded him/the therapist been more annoying Bucky would've lost control of his emotions and blurted out the whole "If he was wrong about you, he was wrong about me" but I feel like the writing for this show is just... not there. Sometimes you blurt shit when you get overemotional and I think that was what Bucky was supposed to be like.
6. I don't think Sam hates Bucky, I think he doesn't trust him though. I do wish they'd talked about that though. The whole 'talk to each other' scene should've been a LOT longer and a LOT slower.
7. Sam and Bucky's relationship is being fast tracked because they don't really know how to work the relationship out, writers-room-wise. Bucky is technically retired, but I feel like he's trying to live up to Steve's expectations and doing what Steve would've done and we all know that if Steve was there, Steve would've jumped on that plane with Sam. It looks like Sam/Bucky/Joaquin are a side-team based from Military services but as Sam says they're all free agents so...?
8. Sadly, They seem to just be propping up to be another stereotype.
9. Captain America is a symbol. Steve Rogers is a man. But now Steve Rogers is an idol because of all the shit he's been through and honestly, it's not a bad thing he's become an idol for people - it's using Steve as a reason to make White Bread Walker the next Captain that makes Steve's idolization so fucked.
10. I don't know anything about music so I have no opinion here, sorry.
11. Enfys?? Also, I think they did the whole Innocent Girl Thing as side commentary for Bucky lowering his guard about seeing a young girl rather than a guy.
12. Bucky is the Winter Solider. The Winter Solider is Bucky. That is how Bucky will always see it because although he was brainwashed, it was still him and he remembers all of it. When you have constant memories of something 'someone else' did, you tend to not be able to pull the two personas out of each other. I want Bucky to take up the title, White Wolf instead of Winter Soldier. Honest.
This is all my opinion, I’m honestly a little disappointed with the writing of TFATWS so far so... I’m not really optimistic about this.

Actually, I am the Mace anon, that's what I was apologizing for. Look, I haven't seen any of your old Mace posts and I guess I should have before sending that, so sorry. I would have worded it differently, if I had. The facitious tone was jsut to express how I felt about that moment.
Okay, I’m genuinely sorry that you got caught in the crossfire of that post, because this is something that I think a lot of people aren’t necessarily aware of–just how much crap a lot of pro-Jedi fans have been through, because I know people constantly wanted to argue with me and throw all these Hot Takes on my posts or into my inbox and they absolute were not interested in any kind of genuine discussion.  I don’t know why those messages get sent to me, but I dealt with a lot of it, until I started making it clear that I’d block people for being dicks on my posts/in my direction.(Hell, even then, I’ve had days where I expressed that I was feeling really down, so I wanted to reblog a bunch of pro-Jedi posts to cheer myself up and immediately, within like an hour, I got about seven people popping up to decide that was the time they needed to argue with me.  That is what a lot of the commentary starts to come across as, that we have to deal with wading through.  It’s not that any one of those individually was The Absolute Worst, but that there comes a point when I need people to be more conscientious of the read of the room.)This means that some people do get caught in the crossfire, which is why I’ll always leave mirkwoodings open as a blog without a blocklist (well, unless someone got genuinely abusive, then I’ll block over there, too, but I don’t think that’s a likely possibility!), if someone wants to come talk to me about it, where I promise to be genuinely open to discussing it and working things out!The problem is that, if you’re not aware of my boundaries or the stuff I’ve had to deal with, your message sounds like a genuine opening for a discussion topic to you, but to me, who’s gotten messages like that from trolls, it sounds like yet another trolling message that I’m officially done with tolerating.I don’t expect everyone to know my entire history (though, I try to indicate it in my About section), so sometimes things will happen and all we can do is try to work it out (and apologies to everyone if this much conversation on your dash is getting to be a lot!) and I’m glad to hear that it was meant as an opening for conversation!  I’ve gotten so many bad faith comments like that, that it didn’t cross my mind that you were being genuine, because so many of them aren’t.  But I’m glad to be wrong about it and I wouldn’t take the comments as being directed at you in that sense, because it’s still very much about the crap we’ve had to deal with, rather than what you were giving us, and I hope we can all uncross these wires.

*Canon balls into the asks due to ungodly amounts of sugar* OKPARTONE,NOWLETMETELLYOUABOUTYOURCHARACTERISATION- It's awesome. There are little bits where you can improve but I'm no literature teacher so haven't a clue how to word them and as such I shall focus on the good parts. The way you write Oz balances out all of his character beautifully, the way he gets slightly bashful when Qrow flirts and the way he's got an easy confidence when it comes to handling tough situations-
Part two- or Tai trying to adopt everyone first. Even in non verbal exchanges such as the one I used as an example you manage to find the right shots and use them to your advantage to get across the wanted mood. Your commentary in the tags are absolute gold and can be applied easily to either yourself or a jovial Ozpin. The way you write both Ozpin with his easy confidence and Oscar with his shyness in one space makes for a wonderful read-
Part three- The way you write both Ozpin with his easy confidence and Oscar with his shyness in one space makes for a wonderful read and the way you personify each of the prior Oz's even without all that much information on their characters is wonderful to read. Another thing I love is how you've integrated Arthur into your writing, his thoughts and opinions bleeding over onto Oz in certain occasions as well as giving him his own space to talk when curious anons want to know more-
Part four-or you just want to explore his character on your own. If I'm entirely honest I'm a little envious of your skill even though I'm pleased with where my own writing currently is. Even if you leave our little community of shy dorks and introverts, keep writing if it makes you happy, because not only the way you write existing characters but the way you write your own characters and the scenes they're in is a gift to the world and so many people adore your writing. Bit longer than intended
How am I doing with my character?
Oh my gosh, THANK YOU for sending me these! I just sat here in an utter state of stupefaction as I read them through around five times. I really can’t say how much it means to me to get asks like these, that people do enjoy reading my stuff enough that you could actually write all this just for me. Its flattery like I’ve never really known before and it never ceases to astound me.
And you’re right. There are definitely parts that I can improve on (some days it feels like those far outweigh anything else, but that’s just part of the creative process) and I’m definitely not going to shy away from that. I feel like the moment we think we have nothing more to learn is the day we should simply give up.
That said, I am very pleased with how my portrayals have developed, and it truly means the world to me when other people say that they enjoy them, that they are believable and distinct because I do try very hard to achieve that. I put a lot of thought into my writing, especially when working with a situation like this. Balance is a very good word for it: trying to keep all the different personalities separate, while still maintaining that common thread between them, that ‘like-mindedness’, these are the sort of things that I as a writer thrive on because they are very challenging to get right.
Balancing things like age, experience, relative maturity and of course the effect that the situation has on each member in any given moment is something that I always try to put consideration into when I’m writing a scene, or doing a plot. I love all the different elements seeing as I’m a person that tends to overthink things just as a natural course, so working in a situation that requires an amount of consideration really works well with me personally.
I absolutely LOVE that people seem to be enjoying Arthur as well. To be honest, I never really thought that he’d take off, he’s always been a part of my blog, tucked away in his little insert in my about, but I never thought there’d be much interest in him, especially since people already had Oscar to focus on for all them ‘host’ feels. Arthur, for me, was in many ways something that I felt was necessary to develop when working with Ozpin, because I do believe that his host has a massive effect on him in any given life, so for me, developing Arthur, making his backstory, giving him his own goals and wants and personality, was also developing Ozpin as the headmaster, giving me larger insight on how I wanted to approach more emotionally complex scenes, more human scenes, especially before we learned his proper backstory. It doesn’t hurt that coming up with past lives for Ozpin is probably one of my favourite past-times (though these usually only make appearances in dream sequences cause if I went into all of them this blog would really nosedive into canon divergence).
And thank you so much for enjoying the little non-verbal exchanges! As a proud frame-hunter with far too many reaction images, it definitely makes me feel a bit more valid that my expansive collection is being enjoyed!
I’ve rambled massively with this response, but I’d still like to end it with this. There’s really no need to be envious at all. You should be proud of your own writing, and really, the thing that I’ve found has helped me most of all with how mine has developed, is I’ve just let it in a way. I don’t always like my writing. Sometimes I find it far too excessive, or wordy or far too focused on some areas while lacking in others, but I keep writing. I write, and I try to push myself on my abilities and I dive headfirst into challenges like this blog and really seeing how far I can push my limits without getting down on myself when I stumble.
As artists, really that’s all we can do. We try, we practice our crafts, and we love our creative outlets, our muses, embrace the things that inspire us. Enjoying another’s work is integral to this, but things like envy will only get in the way. If there’s something you like in my writing, incorporate it in yours, do this with all the people you enjoy and work it all into your own style until its impossible not to love what you’re doing. Love your work, and even if that’s hard, love the process, love how far you’ve come and that you’re still trying.
I’ve had my ups and downs in this community, for sure, but I love writing Ozpin. I love writing Oscar, and Arthur, and Ozma and really all of them. There’s so much here for me to work with, and to work on, and I have such amazing peers and mutuals and partners that all just inspire me every day to do better and keep at it. This blog keeps me writing, it keeps me creating in everything from little things I see on my dash, to anons in my inbox and lovely wonderful people like you that interact with me. I’m grateful for all of you, and I love writing for these characters. I’m so thankful every day that other people enjoy it too, and I hope to stay here for a very long time.

Testing for Love ~ Fluffy Friday

Testing for Love
"Wait a minute, Maxwell!"
Liam jogged over to his friend. "She's found another one."
"No! Why? Why would she do that? Haven't we suffered enough?"
"Apparently not. Thankfully, I passed. Rashad and Drake did too. You, uh...well...good luck." Liam clapped him on the shoulder and returned to his wife.
All four couples were snowed in at Applewood Manor. To help fight the boredom, Amanda had found many online compatibility tests. Riley and Hana had been thrilled, while Olivia enjoyed hearing Drake's running commentary. Liam and Rashad had breezed through, proving they were their wives perfect match.
Maxwell on the other hand struggled. He hated taking tests with a passion. Did his wife doubt they were meant to be or would last or kiss or whatever the current test promised to reveal? They were already married and (before these tests came into view) happily so. A test created by a Dr. Iam Love could not truly measure his feelings properly.
With shoulders slumped, he opened the door to his bedroom. If one were to see what was in that room, they would not understand his fear. The dark haired lady, he considered the love of his life without some torturous multiple choice monstrosity telling him otherwise, was reclining on the bed pillows with her laptop balanced on her lap.
Her demeanor was warm when she looked at him. Such deceit. She was a siren with her inviting smile and affectionate greeting, causing him to enter in. He knew it was only a matter of mere moments before he was dashed upon the rocks of doubt by waves of ridiculous test questions.
"I was wondering where you were." Amanda reached her hand out and grabbed his. With a few tugs, she managed to get him next to her. "I found another test. Ready to give it a try?"
"But we have already proved we are compatible. We're married! What are you planning to do if it shows we shouldn't be together?" Maxwell buried his face into the pillow, thinking that freezing in the snow might be preferable to this.
"It's just for fun! Plus everyone else did it and they all passed. If you fail, I will restrain myself from leaving you for the first man that passes." Amanda teased. "You got this. Now, first question." She clicked on the screen. "Here we go. What would your significant other consider as the perfect date?"
She paused while he groaned in the pillow. She read out the answers and fought her laughter as he went through the possibilities. "You hate outdoors, so no walk or picnic. You love movies, but you also love spontaneous weekend vacations. I HATE THESE THINGS!" He pushed off the bed and paced as he thought of an answer.
After a couple of minutes, Amanda asked if he had an answer. He ran his hands over his face and said the movie date. He watched her face for any indication of it being the right answer. She pursed her lips and clicked on movies. "Okay. Next quest--"
"Wait! No. Go back and pick vacation!"
"I can't go back. Next question." "Which would your love consider to be the most romantic gesture?" He flopped backwards on the bed as he listened and debated on each answer.
"Well? What do you think?" She asked.
"I'll tell you what I think. I think whoever made these tests is bound and determined to break up perfectly happy couples! These questions prove nothing of my feelings for you!" He glared at the ceiling, thinking of the injustice of having to participate in these asinine quizzes. Why were there so many of these unholy things on the internet?
"It's too late." He muttered.
"Huh? What's too late?" Amanda glanced at the clock on the nightstand. "It's not even seven o'clock yet."
"Not the time." He ground out. "It is too late for you to even suspect that we might be incompatible! We're married! We've been married for seven years and have two children! If this does not in any way convince you that I am your perfect match, then I don't know what to tell you."
He grabbed her laptop and tossed it onto a padded chair. Before she could question his actions he hopped back on the bed and pulled her into his arms. He rolled on top of her and stared into her eyes. "I'm going to prove to you why I am your perfect match."
She started laughing. "Maxwell, I already know that. These were just to have a laugh--"
"Number one: Your favorite color is blue. You hate the color pink and only put the girls in their pink outfits when there is a chance they could be ruined. You love the color red, especially in flower form. Tulips are your favorite to receive except in the winter when you only want poinsettias."
Amanda closed her mouth as he held up his hand.
"Number two: You love Mystery Science Theater 3000 above all other shows. Your favorite seasons have either Joel or Mike, with the first Crow and second Tom. You can't decide who your favorite host is, though Mike reminded you of me. So, you developed a crush on him when we were younger."
She gasped. "How did you know--"
"Perfect match!" He growled.
"Number three: You make fun of romantic dramas and have a hard time not laughing when one of the love interest dies. Though many might think it is heartless, I know you have gone off alone to cry at the thought of my death. You only laugh at the overly dramatic sceranios, but your heart breaks at real life."
Her eyes teared up. "How did you--"
"Perfect match! I am your perfect match. I can't pick those answers they give because they don't match you. I know you. You are the love of my life. I am yours. And for my sake, please! Don't make me take another test! EVER!"
Amanda wrapped her arms around him. "I promise. No more compatibility tests. I never doubted our love, though hearing all that may have made me love you even more." She said as she pressed her lips to his. "I thought they would make us laugh at the absurdity. But if it makes you reveal stuff like this..." She tried to reach for the computer.
"NO!" He held her down and tickled her until she promised to stop. He kissed her and settled next to her with a contented sigh.
Later that night, they joined everyone downstairs after dinner. Amanda had her phone out, scrolling through some quizzes that had popped up. "Oh! We have to try this?"
Maxwell froze. "You promised." He whispered.
She smiled at him. "Don't worry, it isn't a love test."
He relaxed again next to her, letting his hand play with her hair.
"It's a 'How Great of a Parent Are You?' quiz."

Well there’s only so much one space dragon can do to fix a mess on a plane made of infinite power, but he’s done the best he can to fix the Halls of Origin for when Arceus inevitably comes home.
