i guess instead of soulmates it's more like an ambiguous soulbond au, aka they dream of each other growing up but very much in flashes and without knowing who the other person is and just assume they're all weird misplaced memories... i have lots of very convoluted ideas for everything leading up to them meeting and then after that i'm like well. plot what plot!!! i just really like 2124 when they have an extremely nonsensical relationship and "understand" each other without meaning to (or even wanting to) because the whole ethos of the ship is that they Don't Work and yet still play beautiful hockey together... so that's the concept. like roope dreams of robo's home in michigan and robo dreams of winters in finland and robo meets miro at the 2017 draft who's just spent a year playing with roope for hifk and he can feel so strongly that he KNOWS him and miro is like ??? completely taken aback by why this random dude from california just blurted out the nickname roope calls him etc.

then they do meet and robo is horrified because he's like, i can't focus when i'm around him this is the bond's fault! but the bond specialists clear them and say it doesn't give them an unfair advantage since it's just vague emotional connectivity, so then he has to grapple with the fact that he Likes Roope As A Person, etc. your usual soulbond shenanigans....... i don't like any of my excerpts enough to post but i love slightly magical elements that make robo hyperaware of his relationships and wanting to blame them for his feelings even though it's really just him at the end of the day ❤️
