Prompt Submissions Are Now OPEN!

Hello all! Prompt submissions for the 2019 HL Kink Festival are now OPEN. Please remember the following:

You must be over 18 years of age to submit a prompt.

Not all prompts will be filled. Some may be claimed, but the author has complete creative freedom.

Be as general or as specific as you’d like!

Prompt submissions will stay open until a week before fics are due, on December 27, 2019.

Authors will be claiming prompts on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is absolutely no guarantee that your prompt will get chosen.  

You may submit as many prompts as you like, but each must be on a separate form.

All submissions will be read, and duplicates will only be posted once. I will be posting a document where people can see the prompts that have been submitted within 48 hours.

Author Sign-Ups - Now Open!

Hey guys, Round One author sign-ups are now OPEN! Here is a refresher for how this process will go:

Authors can sign up NOW, giving general contact information. This will reserve their spot in line for a prompt, if they chose to claim one. Prompts are first-come, first-serve, in the order of author sign-up.

If you are considering claiming a prompt, it is in your best interest to sign up sooner rather than later!

Round One sign-ups will close on July 12, 2019 at midnight EST. If you are not ready to commit just yet, there will be another opportunity to sign up for the festival in early September.

Before signing up, please read the RULES and the SCHEDULE, both linked here. You will be required to agree to both of these when you submit your author sign-up.

Authors will be able to claim their prompts during the week of July 12-19.

There will be two check-ins, on September 6, and November 8. 

Round One fics are all due on January 3, 2020!

General Updates/Author Sign-Up Information

Hi guys! First off, I want to take a second to just say thank you. Everyone’s feedback has been so polite, thoughtful, and timely. 

Based on the results from the poll, it was a fairly unanimous decision - most people would prefer for this to be a festival. My main reason for creating this event in the first place was for kink writers to be able to find a sense of community - whether this is your first time writing kink or smut, or you’re well-versed and popular in the fandom. I want it to be something people are excited to participate in, not hesitant. Because over 80% of people preferred a fest, that is what we are going to be moving forward as. I am trying to make this work for everyone, however, so let me share some details.

Starting at 1pm EST today (7/6), prompt submissions will open. Anyone will have the opportunity to submit a prompt, even those not planning on submitting a fic. I will be accepting submissions up until a week before the fics are due, so submissions will close on December 27, 2019. 

Starting at 5pm EST today (7/6), author sign-ups will open. This will be a general information form where I can get contact information from you, as well as gauge expectations. Author sign-ups will be open until July 12, 2019 for Round One, and Round Two will open on September 6, 2019. More details about this will be posted when the sign-ups open tonight. What you need to know right now is that authors will be able to claim prompts in a first-come, first-serve method. Prompt claiming will not start for about a week (until we have enough prompts submitted) and is not mandatory, but if you are considering using a prompt, I would recommend signing up sooner rather than later. As I receive sign-ups, you will be contacted with your spot in line for claims. As stated, more details will be posted with the link to the sign-up form.

i have just updated the prompt list! please, please, please keep submitting prompts in! we have gotten so many amazing prompts, can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

also, a note to prompters: I would try to make your prompts at least a sentence or two. I have gotten quite a few one-word prompts and while that’s fine, an author is more likely to be inspired and claim your prompt if it has a bit more for them to work with.

Update!

Hey guys, your friendly mod here with some updates. I’ll be answering a bunch of anons all at once, so hold on to your horses!

1. Yes, prompt claims have started! I believe I am currently around 8-9. 

2. We have had 19 authors (including myself!) sign up! So exciting!

3. Yes, I am participating as well. To keep things fair, I am bringing in my own prompt as to not affect prompt claims :)

4. Yes, as some have noticed, author sign-ups are still open. This is because I had a few people reach out and ask for them to stay open longer, so people could get their commitments in line before deciding if they were good to sign up. Y’all, this is the first fest I’ve ever hosted! I realized that a week for all sign-ups and prompt submissions was not realistic. My goal is to just do what’s best for everyone here. 

5. On the topic of prompt submissions - I have closed prompt submissions as of 12:30 am EST, and they will re-open for Round Two on a later date! However, some amazing prompts were submitted over the last few days, as I forgot to end submissions, and it would be so unfair to not let these prompts be put out for you guys. I’ll be confirming that everyone wants the prompts they have, and then continuing down the list. Please give me patience - I still expect all prompts to be distributed by the end of the week, as everyone has been wonderful and responding in a timely manner. Authors, check your preferred mode of contact for more info.

6. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out, but do so in a respectful way. I am so honored to be the mod of this fest, but please realize that 1. I have a life and a job outside of this festival 2. I have multiple other time commitments (such as my own works for other fests, etc) 3. like said above, I am still new! and willing to do whatever to make this successful! So whatever you have to say, say it respectfully. I’m willing to put in work and do the most to make this fest successful, but I won’t tolerate any more rude anon messages. if you’re going to be rude about it, you’re more than welcome to not participate. let’s respect each other as basic humans, okay? cool. 

sorry for this long-ass post. there was a lot to go over! but above all of this, I hope you are all as excited about this festival as I am! looking ahead, after all prompt claims are completed, you can look forward to author spotlights, beta and britpicker signups, and first check-ins! thanks for coming along for the ride!
