You know what, I’m treating myself this holiday season.
I’m taking a trip to the Hokulani Observatory tonight, and nothing or nobody can stop me! Not even the giant buses full of tourists I prefer to avoid like the plague!

Does the squid know what color the fancy pantswear cause I saw someone that day with Red pants and Someone with green pants going in separate directions that day.
The guy in the red pants was headed to the lake of sun and moon
The guy in the Green pants was headed to the hokulani observatory
All he said was "pale" so probably not red or green? @mr-amar do y'know specifically what color they were?

Totality
This was the first time the Ultra Recon Squad member had bore witness to an eclipse. She knew it was a rare event and sought to see it for herself at the Hokulani Observatory in Alola, but that was not possible.
She was worlds away and fully transformed into a Naganadel, forced to work laboriously for the hive-mother of the nest she was given sanctuary. But somehow, on another planet in another world, an eclipse was happening here as well. And this was just as important as the one happening on Terra.
The stars and moons that orbited Ultra Hive were binary, and for the first time in thousands of years, both suns would be obstructed by their respective moons. Many of the hive-clans saw this as an auspicious event several millennia in the making, but all Pandoria could feel was dread.
Why was she brought here, and in this form no less? Was this some sort of trial she had to endure? A punishment for ignoring her other half she had long ignored?
And most important of all questions: was this permanent? Was she doomed to live the rest of her days as an Ultra Beast, being forced to abandon everything she once knew? The thought of losing herself frightened her the most. But maybe, this abrupt transformation was so that she could face this fear once and for all.
She was adorned in intricate patterns drawn on her using natural pigments; symbols that represented both the sun and the moon. Others in the hive bore these markings as well, including Hyperion. Perhaps this was part of the rite they were preparing for.
Pandoria did not have a mirror to gaze upon herself and resorted to looking into a clear, flowing stream that went through the hive. She could not even recognize herself in her own reflection. That also frightened her. Even though she was still herself, she was undeniably alien.
She could not let these thoughts linger in her mind. She was to see something that would not happen again in lifetimes.
Brood-sister… The hive-mother is gathering us. Come. The Eclipse is soon to start.
Hyperion’s voice echoed through her mind. Telepathy. She had spoken to Hyperion several times before, but she was still unused to them solely talking instead of their occasional screeches and trills. They gently tapped her arm with their claw in order to get her attention.
The two Naganadel flew to the centermost area of the nest with hundreds, maybe thousands, of others of their kin encircling a stone platform that the matriarch was hovering over. There was an opening in the nest that allowed for the perfect viewing of the eclipse.
Each and every member of the hive bore the same markings resembling celestial phenomena, but the hive-mother stood out among them.
She wore a crown of bioluminescent flowers over her horns, and her markings seemed to shimmer in a swirling pattern akin to a galaxy. Pandoria had never seen anything like this. Her very presence seemed to demand respect.
The cacophony of voices within the hive went silent as the hive-mother let out a resounding screech. All eyes were immediately turned on her. The rite was to begin.
We have come here to witness something that only our ancestors in lifetimes long forgotten have glimpsed. The twin suns; the twin moons. Soon they will be aligned once more. The eyes of the primal Mother, child of the Bringer of Light, will gaze upon us, her brood, again!
The crowd around Pandoria and Hyperion erupted after the hive-mother began her speech. There was a creation myth among those who lived in Ultra Hive that said that every single part of the world they inhabited was the body of the First Hive-mother, the progenitor of their species, Na’del. The planet was her heart and the twin stars & moons were her eyes. The crowd was silenced again as the matriarch continued.
There is no light without darkness, nor is there darkness without light. That is truth for this world and all realms. Give not in to the darkness of despair, for our light shall illuminate even among the stars beyond! It is what connects all things, what connects us to the vastness of Ultra Space. So sing, we shall, as children of Na’del and the Lightbringer. Lend your voices unto the heavenly chorus! The confluence of realms listens! The light that burns through shadow comes at last!
Upon the speech’s conclusion, the hive-mother began to lift her claws towards the opening above the hive and gaze skyward. The eclipse was happening. She then began to chant repeatedly in the tongue of Naganadel with others swiftly following. This was the chorus she spoke of.
Pandoria was stunned, her mouth agape at what she saw and heard. The twin moons were slowly moving over the suns above her. She suddenly felt a familiar jolt of pain, so sudden and sharp. She faltered to the ground. Hyperion tried to grab her before she fell, but they were too late. The resonant chanting in an alien tongue continued despite her pain.
Her head, no, her abdomen was in pain. Her mind and body was in pain. It was just like before she passed out in the Lake of the Moone. She had to fight it. She had to see this eclipse.
Louder and louder, the voices droned on, until they reached a crescendo and then…
Silence and darkness fell upon them. The only light seeping through this shadow were the faint outlines of the twin stars. She gazed directly in the line of totality. Her eyes burned. Everything burned.
And then light.
All she could see was a blazing and radiant light. The world around her seemed to warp and distort before the lingering pain returned. She wanted to scream, but she could not. This was still part of the trial. She must not show fear.
She will fear this part of herself, bestial and primal, no longer.
Her eyes opened, body still on the ground. The eclipse was still happening when she awoke, but there was no more chanting. Only one sun and one moon shone in the sky. But a voice still remained.
-rood sister… Brood-sister! You have awoken! We… we appear to be in the hive no longer. The eclipse… it did have something to do with your transformation and the Ultra Wormhole. I still cannot fathom why, but… thank the Blinding One you are safe.
Pandoria looked down to see that only one of her arms remained covered in scales and talons. Her body still felt heavy, and she tried to lift herself up only to stumble on her legs.
She was back. It was over. She looked over at Hyperion before they nudged at her gently.
“Yes… it is good to be myself again. But I was always me, even as a Naganadel. Perhaps that was why this even happened to begin with… The universe does work in mysterious ways.”
Indeed it does…

Sicktember 2023 Day 8
Prompt: Persistent Fever
Fandom: Po.kémon
Characters: M.olayne, K.ukui, So.phocles (mentioned)
Wordcount: 1,932
Notes: Bespectacled babyboy 🥺 IDK anything about astronomy so I just made it up. Take my hand. Let's suspend our disbelief together.
Tonight, the famous Alolan breeze wafted with it the smell of plumerias and sea air. It ruffled the pages of Kukui's textbook, inducing him to lift his head and gaze out into the darkness. With or without the light on, there wasn't much to see. Hokulani Observatory hadn't been built with the surrounding landscape in mind. While the view upward was immaculate, the view out the windows left much to be desired. Rocks and various equipment made strange silhouettes in the fading light.
A shuffling of footsteps drew Kukui's attention, then a string of wrenching dry coughs. He turned and found Molayne slouching in the doorway of the office, a blanket around his shoulders and his fist pressed to his lips. He took a deep breath and shuffled further into the office, seemingly content to ignore his friend for the time being.
The office was Molayne's, but he hadn't set foot in it in well over a week. He'd come down with something nasty, so nasty it didn't even give him to set a course down the mountain for his home. He'd spent two days in a high fever before he'd been able to call Kukui for assistance. And, despite Kukui's best efforts, he didn't seem to be getting better.
"Yo," Kukui said, watching Molayne paw through stacks of notebooks and binders. "Should you be out of bed?"
"Probably not," Molayne admitted from somewhere within the blanket he'd wrapped around himself. It was blue and patterned with Dugtrio and big enough to drag on the floor despite Molayne's height. "But I, uhm…" He trailed off, leafing through a notebook before discarding it in favor of another. "I…" A shudder ran through him and he pulled the blanket tighter.
Kukui leapt to his feet. "Sit down, yeah?" He steered Molayne into the swivel chair— carefully. "What are you looking for?"
"Almanac," Molayne muttered. A bead of sweat rolled down his temple. "What time is it?"
Kukui leaned across him to check the time on the computer, bracing a hand on Molayne's shoulder. Even through the blanket, Molayne's fever seared against his hand. "Uh, 7:30, yeah."
"Oh." Molayne sighed, eyes slipping closed. "Good."
He'd forgotten his glasses somewhere, probably on the end table that had become the temporary home of them and a collection of other small objects: cough drops, his old Gameboy, various glasses and bottles of water and sports drinks and juice.
Kukui adjusted himself and palmed Molayne's forehead, letting his fingers tangle in sweat-dampened locks. "What's going on?"
"Well…" Molayne relaxed into Kukui's touch and folded forward, bracing his elbows on the desk. A few coughs, muffled behind closed lips, shook his shoulders. "Ah…"
He closed his eyes and Kukui ruffled his hair. "It's okay, Mo. Take your time." The natter at hand was obviously important to Molayne, even if he couldn't articulate his thoughts with any speed or clarity at the moment. Kukui really couldn't blame him. He'd been in and out of a fever for so long it was a wonder he hadn't broken down and cried yet.
Not to mention the fact that Hokulani Observatory was not equipped to handle many overnight visitors. While one of the unused offices had been set up with a couch to sleep on, it wasn't exactly the kind of place you wanted to spend more than a few nights. Certainly not the kind of place you wanted to be trapped in while sick, especially when you were as tall as Molayne. Kukui had had to drag over a table just so he'd have something to rest his feet on.
"I need to call Soffy," Molayne muttered into his palms.
"Why?" Kukui asked, gently returning Mokayne's focus to the heart of the matter.
"Tonight— Uh, I think it was tonight… You're supposed to be able to see three planets in alignment. I mean, you could see them yesterday, probably, and a few days before, but this is the night. Soffy— Sophocles was supposed to come over and stargaze with me."
"Ohh, I get it."
"I thought we could at least video chat."
Kukui nodded, though Molayne couldn't see it, and ruffled his hair again. "Don't worry, buddy. What time did you have in mind?"
"10:00 at the earliest," Molayne said, and sighed. "Maybe I can make a coffee or something… I don't want to disappoint him."
"Kukui's got you, oh yeah! Now let's get you back in bed. I'll take care of everything."
Molayne raised his head and blinked and Kukui allowed his hand to be dislodged with the motion. "Thank you," he said slowly.
He got to his feet even slower and Kukui put an arm around him to steady him, pulling up the blanket so it didn't drag on the floor. The last thing he needed was for Molayne to trip and hurt himself.
The hallways's white fluorescent lights rendered everything bright and free of shadows. Molayne burned against Kukui.
"Think you might go back to sleep?" Kukui asked, as casually as he could. Molayne's illness had seemed like a simple flu, but it just wasn't getting better. Kukui was about two days away from calling a doctor in.
"Probably," Molayne said wearily. He sighed and let his head hang for a moment. "I'm really tired of this. I was hoping to have a paper written in time to submit for the New Astronomy Review's winter quarter."
"I'm sorry." Kukui rubbed Molayne's back through the blanket. "Let's get some pills and water in you first, yeah? See if we can't kick this thing once and for all."
He guided Molayne back to the couch, into the depressing little office that had become Molayne's bedroom for the time being. While Kukui was no stranger to sleeping in his lab, it wasn't the sort of thing he sought out— it wasn't the sort of anything anyone would seek out.
Still, Molayne settled on the couch without a word of complaint and waited patiently for Kukui to hand him the right amount of medicine and make a note on the med chart they'd made. It was a simple thing, scribbled in highlighter and blue ballpoint on the back of misprinted diagram someone had left.
"This'll be your last dose until tomorrow," Kukui said, looking at the chart. Blue and yellow stretched out before him, a record of all the days that had gone by with Molayne still in feverish grip. "Try to get some rest, okay?"
"Will do," Molayne said, sounding half-asleep already.
Kukui turned off the light.
-
At 10:00, he left his research and went back to Molayne.
Tinny music emanated from the darkness, some looping video game soundtrack playing unpunctuated by SFX or the click of buttons being pressed.
"Mo?" Kukui whispered, ducking his head in. The lights from the hall illuminated parts of the room, revealing an empty couch and a lanky silhouette curled up against it on the floor. "I'm gonna turn the light on, okay?"
The switch clicked. Molayne twitched and scrubbed at his forehead with the heel of his palm, face pinched.
"Floor time, huh?" Kukui asked, unsure of what else to say. Molayne seemed okay; he was sitting up and reacting calmly enough.
"I couldn't—" Molayne started, still shifting like he couldn't get comfortable, like everything was bothering him from the light to the feel of his clothing on his skin. "Ah, I can't— It's hot."
Kukui's heart sank. "Hang on, buddy. I'm gonna check your temperature and then we can get you some water, okay?"
Molayne nodded listlessly. The music looped again. Kukui crossed the room in rapid strides.
"What time is it?" Molayne asked.
"Only just now 10:00." Kukui picked up the thermometer and knelt in front of Molayne, noting his red cheeks with a pang of concern. "I won't let you miss this big, uh, planetary event."
Molayne nodded, then flinched back when Kukui touched the thermometer to his forehead.
"Fever's up," Kukui said, fighting to keep his tone conversational. Way up. He was definitely calling a doctor tomorrow. He'd carry them all the way up Mount Hokulani on his back if he had to. "How 'bout some water, yeah?"
He didn't give Molayne a chance to answer.
Early on, he'd liberated a plastic pitcher from the break room, filled it, and taken it here. It was still mostly full despite Kukui's commitment to keeping Molayne hydrated. He filled a glass and lifted it to Molayne's lips.
Molayne tolerated this for a few seconds before shrugging Kukui off and taking the glass for himself. "I can…" He said breathlessly, wiping a few stray droplets of water from his lip. "I'm okay."
The numbers on the thermometer told a different story, but Kukui just nodded and crossed his arms. “Let’s get you upstairs then, yeah?” Thank the Tapu the elevator went all the way up to the roof.
Molayne was dangerously wobbly, but it seemed his commitment to Sophocles outweighed whatever havoc his fever was wreaking on his body. He didn’t complain once on their way up to the roof and sat quietly while Kukui set up the computer.
The laptop he’d chosen didn’t have a webcam, which was just as well. Molayne looked awful, definitely bad enough to freak out Sophocles.
The kid already looked plenty freaked out when the call connected and his face filled the screen. “Mo?”
“Hey, kiddo.” Molayne yawned. “Sorry, this laptop doesn’t, ah. Doesn’t have a webcam.” Kukui blinked. Molayne really had rallied.
“That’s okay, Big Mo. I’m sorry you’re not feeling any better.”
Molyane tucked his chin into the collar of his shirt and coughed lightly, then surfaced. “I’ll be okay, Soffy. I have Kukui here to look after me, so you know I’m in good hands.”
“Hey, kiddo!” Kukui waved despite the lack of webcam.
Sophocles waved as well, his worried expression melting into a smile. “Hi! Thanks for taking care of Mo.”
“Happy to do it, yeah! He’s a good patient. Alway takes his medicine and everything.”
“Enough about me,” Molayne said, a flush creeping down his neck. “Soffy, do you have your telescope handy? I’ll message you the coordinates.” Muting himself briefly, he coughed deeply into the crook of his elbow, then typed a string of numbers into the chat box.
Unable to help himself, Kukui stood behind him and pressed a hand to Molayne’s forehead. He was still burning up, really burning up.
Though he put on a good act for Sophocles, Kukui watched him wilt as the night went on, slumping over where he was sitting until he was all but lying down. His coughing fits became more frequent, his words slower.
In the end, it was Sophocles who ended the call with a furrowed brow and many well-wishes. He was a good kid. Perceptive, too.
Kukui shut off the laptop and shifted so he could cradle Molayne’s head in his lap. “How you feelin’?”
“Nnhh.” Molayane’s breath burned against the skin of Kukui’s thigh. “Been better. My head hurts”
It was as close to complaining as Molayne ever got and even that slight admission was enough to make Kukui’s blood run cold. “I’m gonna call a doctor up here tomorrow, okay? I know it’s a pain, but it needs to be done.”
“Mm.”
“You falling asleep?” Kukui asked, running a hand over Molayne’s head. He only shuddered, breath stuttering. “Hey, Mo.”
“Yes,” Molayne said, more of a whine than anything.
“On the roof?”
“Please.” Molayne shifted and covered his ears with his palms. Kukui swallowed. Never mind the late hour, it was time to call a doctor out.

Apparently in the Hokulani Observatory, there's a Magnemite that speaks morse code to you (apparently every Beep is a - and every Boop is a .) and if you translate it, it says Alola.
they're so talented

Your Pokémon all look really strong! Do they enjoy battling? Also, 🎃 do they have any fears?
(@leafylilpokemon )
Thank you so much!
My babies do a lot of work in the orchard, so their strength comes more from physical labor than actual training. We don't do much battling; the only people I've battled are passing trainers that insist on the eye-contact rule (*sigh*) and my younger brother, Corey (he likes reliving his Island Challenge days).
My strongest hitters are definitely Bryony and Cassia, Dusty's too lazy to put actual effort into his hits (/affectionate). Maybe I'll end up training Atlas for battles. Having a Pokémon that actually wants to fight would help with wild encounters and those pesky trainers.
As for fears, my Pokémon have been in the countryside for so long that a lot of big-city functions put them on edge. Astrid is usually the only biter, but the others get nippy when they encounter big machinery. I visited the Hokulani Observatory once and had to put Bryony in a Pokéball because she was so skittish.
I have to take this into account while travelling, which is why I usually don't travel with my whole team.
Thank you for the ask! :)

Ah, well... The date didn't go poorly or anything. I wasn't expecting this guy to have me end up in tears, UGH! Not in a bad way, just...
It can be pretty hard to accept people care about you.
My nerves already at an 11/10, looking the best I can to distract from the fact I can hardly understand that he even LIKES me back, things got a little rocky from the get-go... The restaurant reservation got cancelled due to a Clauncher infestation, then get poured on during a walk around the area to find somewhere new...
He is SICKENINGLY sweet, holding his jacket above my head in the rain, offering dinner at his place instead... How do I return the favor!? It's unfair!
Conversation and everything was going well, we really hit it off! Until a small snag when I explained what it is I do, jumping through Wormholes and such. I even invited him to go with me sometime! His expression fell, my heart sinking and feeling cold. Fearing he'd respond like one of my old co-workers, I tried to save it and change subject, but... He just expressed worry.
"That sounds really dangerous...what if you can't make it back?"
I can't say it NEVER crossed my mind, but it wasn't a huge concern to me.
His compromise was offering space in the Hokulani Observatory to turn into a fossil Pokemon lab, once AGAIN too selfless and sweet! That damn Professor suggests I do something similar all the time, but this time...It was out of concern for me, my life. I was really taken aback...
I...can't. I lost a lot of colleagues, respect, any accolade I had previously, was essentially nullified when I made clear what discovery I made and wanting to pursue it further. Wouldn;t that all be for nothing if i just went back to what I did before? He understood, but said he'd still worry about me. I can't take it! It feels like such a burden, for people to spend their energy thinking about you. Things are best when equal, what am I supposed to do!? Flooding at me, this realization of an impact outside of my control. I should've known sooner... even fossils make their mark unwillingly, too.
Classic Mo of course consoled me during my confusing rush of tears. Without words we both understood this would get in the way of things really going too much further, respectfully. His next suggestion would catch me even MORE off guard-
"You know, I may just be able to root for you only from the sidelines, but I'm certain I saw you with someone who may be more fit to be side by side with you. Maybe even assist in taking that research further?"
GENIUS!? HIM!? I'd say I'm good friends with him, and, well, the incident involving being fake married to him... That doesn't mean I saw him that way! UGH!! This is too much to take in all at once...

cyrus for ask game cause i know you got a billion thoughts on him
this is true i always have cyrus thoughts. for the others who asked for him here it is
NOTP: probably absolutecontrol i just do not see it . its naught for me TBH i feel like others who have talked abt their reasons for disliking it sum up my thoughts as well
BROTP: even if he doesnt say it he loves his commanders. stupid little disfunctional family of criminals and people with issues but at the end of the day he gets mars that one jumpsuit she liked at the store but wasnt able to afford and will sit there and listen to saturn ramble for 30 mins abt whatever mmo or terrible sitcom hes into now and although hes clueless he doesnt complain. him and jupiter have the same taste in completely incomprehensible music and will listen to things together while doing menial tasks as everyone else has to endure the noise. sort-of-family bonding they all take care of each other and make each other worse
OTP: mizuhiki is kind of everything like regardless if you see it as romantic or only platonic. the 'once childhood friends and have a lot in common yet are so different and ultimately as they grow up and their lives drift to different paths and futures they split with their own stubbornness and refusal to see the other changing from what they imagined them to be and their eventual future meeting in dire circumstances is full of bitterness and hurt at ever believing the other could understand them' thing makes me crazy. its also funny to me how we all just agree they knew each other growing up right like thats just canon now. theyre insane about each other its like watching a car crash thats been going on for 15 years but also i believe in them
Second choice pairing: honestly idk. cant think of anything LOL
Fluffy pairing: i once saw some fanart on here of a redeemed cyrus living in alola at the hokulani observatory and having a little thing with molayne and i still think abt it. regardless of the pairing part i think he should go there hed love it (and get to see sophocles)
Angsty pairing: see above- mizuhiki
Poly and weirdest ship are the same for this one bc my good friend michael emerald teamaqua once introduced me to the concept of maxie+archie+cyrus in rainbow rocket and i still havent gotten over it. i think it would be the funniest thing

after completing kofu's gym test i have to say i really like all of the gym tests so far. while i am still disappointed that we don't get to see what the gyms look like inside, i don't mind the tests themselves taking place outside the gym. the way they're done reminds me of how alola's trials all took place in diverse landmarks throughout the region, like brooklet hill and lush jungle and hokulani observatory, and gave you fun and unique tasks to do. sword and shield also had gym tests but they were all inside the gyms themselves and i barely even remember any of them. in SV, by having you do the olive roll maze in cortondo, explore artazon and search for sunflora, participate as a guest on iono's stream in levincia, and travel from cascarrafa to porto marinda and then win the auction for kofu, they're having you engage in the culture of the various towns and it leans really nicely into worldbuilding. and some of alola's trials did reflect the culture of the area as well. i still have 4 gyms to go, but so far at least, SV's gym tests are great and are a way better successor to alola's trials than SWSH's were.

It’s almost impressive how fast I flunked my Island Challenge back in the day.
Got a Litten, walked up to the Hokulani Observatory, saw a giant Vikavolt, and turned right around and went back home. At least Punchy’s happy to be at my parents’ place.

back to working on alola prev gen, these r the new highlights so far :)
hapu is poni's trial captain under her grandfather, but when he passes, she steps down from her position and the totem pokemon she looked after, mudsdale, joins her as her permanent partner
olivia becomes a trial captain after her predecessor retires to raise her daughter lana
the player character's maternal grandparent is a trial captain on melemele and remarks to island challengers that their daughter left for kanto to challenge the indigo league
the fairy-type trial captain living in paniola town is the older sister/guardian of plumeria, who she's been having trouble with as of late (also narrative foil with fairy/poison)
mohn was recommended by hala (as a trial captain) to show the youth the ‘joys of an island challenge’ and further embrace alolan culture while conducting his research at the observatory (it works, bc he meets lusamine and then never leaves alola)
mohn is succeeded in both jobs by kids from heahea city - with molayne being the new trial captain and burnet taking charge of the research until she relocates to a specially-made dimensional studies lab back in heahea (her and molayne still keep in touch, and mo is the one that introduced her to kukui)
the ula'ula kahuna is ousted by tapu bulu in the middle of the island challenge, and the one forced to fill his shoes is nanu (this further "ties his hands" and leads to his early retirement from interpol)
mallow is the only akala trial captain in present time to have been chosen by the island kahuna before olivia, who happens to be kahili's mother
unlike her father, kahili's mom is more laid-back and willing to vouch for kahili taking the island challenge, though she does warn her to choose which island she starts with wisely, as she's not going to go easy on her own daughter (basically implying that if kahili chose akala island first, her pokemon would be too underleveled to stand a chance)
before guzma leaves home, he breaks all his golf clubs, cuts his hair, changes his name, and estranges himself from his father, wanting to start his island challenge as a new person
after kahili leaves home, she ditches the too-stiff, too-fancy clothes for casual wear that shows too much skin, trades her starter pokemon (a beldum) for molayne's flying-type, completes one of akala island's three trials, and then jumps on a ferry to set her sights on another island entirely, assertively presenting herself as a rebel
molayne and kahili become fast friends and even better rivals, and their battles are always intense and rewarding; on their way up mt. hokulani to face mohn, they end up encountering a group of skarmory, and together they catch the last pair between themselves just in time for their next trial
the melemele trial involves visiting four out-of-the-way locations across the island and bringing back an item from each to present to the totem pokemon, a drampa living in verdant cavern
guzma meets plumeria near lush jungle on akala and firmly tells her she needs to life live how she wants to and not how others tell her to: immediately following this, guzma bleaches his hair white to prove a point, and plumeria takes the words to heart

It appears that I did not even have to utilize the telescope within the observatory to get a proper view. This is… beautiful. Every tiny, distant speck is the light of a star millions of miles away.
[Photo ID: The nightly skyline outside the Hokulani Observatory. The sky itself is extremely clear with countless stars in this one unedited picture alone. Some Minor are seen floating by, blending in with the starlit sky.]
According to what I have learned about the mountain range itself, it is culturally significant to the Alolan people as being a peak that connects the land to the heavens, and it is now clear as to why they believe so.

Alolan Dusk 12
[Given the occasion, Lillie wasn’t surprised to hear that the other prominent members of Aether Paradise had gathered for dinner at the mansion instead of their usual meeting place, but it was still a shock to the young heiress that their usual party had doubled since the last time they met and had made full use of the long table. The chatter doesn’t quite die away as she enters with her friends, but the three of them definitely catch the attention of the room.]
Wicke:
There you are! We were starting to wonder about you. Gladion said you had an emergency?
Lillie:
[Glances at Burnet as she wondered if she should be the one to explain] Yes, but it turned out alright. We just got tied up for a bit.
Guzma:
[Waves it off] All in the finer details. But right now, I am starving.
Wicke:
Of course, come sit down. [Walks by to fetch the plates from the end of the table] The curry might be a little cold, but we can get that heated up for you.
Lillie:
Thank you.
[As she heads for her usual spot beside her brother, she nervously begins looking at the seating.] Can we squeeze in here?
Burnet:
Oh, you don't have to-
Quips:
[Amused as he gets up to move his chair over to make room as Lillie wheels over an empty seat.] Professor, it's not that hard. Good to see you. How are you holding up?
Burnet:
[Clears her throat as she sits beside him. That did seem to be the question of the day, wasn’t it? Softly] Not well at all, actually. But we've made it here, so I think it'll get better.
Gladion:
[Can see they both have something on their minds as Lillie slides into her seat. Voice low.] You know you don't have to stay with me, right? Tonight isn't exactly business as usual.
Lillie:
[Rye amusement] And sit with all the grown-ups? No thanks.
Guzma:
[Don’t mind him, he’s heading for the other end of the table as he pulls up a chair next to Molayne] Hey, Big Mo! I'm surprised to see you here.
Wicke:
[Comes back with an Employee who starts passing out the hot plates to their new arrivals and returns to the head of the table. She's quiet as she notes the new seating arrangements.]
Molayne:
I don't see why. The Hokulani Observatory, the Dimensional Research Lab, and the Aether Foundation have some overlap in our studies of the Ultra Wormholes and unusual Pokemon. Burnet and I both agreed to stick around since it seemed like a good fit for where to go next. [Bit of intrigue as he looks his old friend over] Where is your coat?
Guzma:
[Annoyed as he takes a mouthful of rice. It’s actually not as spicy as he was afraid it would be, but he still mutters through to answer] Finer details. [Swallows] Look, it’s been a long day for all of us.
Molayne:
[He won’t ask anymore then.] On that we can agree.
Burnet:
[As curious as she is about what Guzma is whispering to their friend about, she gets distracted by the plate lowered in front of her. Gives a little nod of thanks and flashes a shy smile at Wicke as the woman sits down across from her.] I suppose we could all relocate to Unova if we had to. I've still got several contacts there.
Colress:
[Brightens up] Me too~! We have several regions where we planned to drop passengers off, but I wouldn't mind going back for a visit. [Points his fork at the youngest members of the table] Would you believe these two have never been?
Gladion:
[Subtle cough] If I ever get a vacation, it's on my to-do list.
Wicke:
[Happily to Lillie] It really is a lovely place. I could show you where I used to work!
Burnet:
[Nervously as she’s trying to be polite] How about not? [Turns her attention down the table] How is little Anabel handling all these changes?
Molayne:
We've talked about the move and everything, but I don't think she fully understands what it all means. She's very excited to explore the place, but the idea of actually living here might take some time before it sets in.
Guzma:
With all the shuffle going on, I'm surprised you let her out of her sight.
Molayne:
[Ehehe…] Don't remind me. Olivia said she didn't mind looking after her tonight since this isn't just dinner.
Quips:
I wondered why she isn't here. I don't blame her though, I'm sure playing games with a five year old is a nice change of pace from our own meetings on procedures the last few days.
Molayne:
[Awkwardly glances around the table] I just realized, I'm the only one here with children, aren't I?
Colress:
[Playful sarcasm] According to most, I’m not allowed.
Quips:
[Amused] Well, as far as little ones go. Mine are all grown.
Faba:
So are my two. Although I don't think Dexio would mind playing with the little girl.
Lillie:
[Surprised to hear him and leans forward to peer down her side of the table to see that, sure enough, all the way at the end, Faba had joined them this time along with a young man who seemed not much older than Gladion was] Oh! I didn't know you had any kids, Mr. Faba.
Gladion:
Right, you three missed out on introductions. [Gestures down to their visitors.] Turns out, the meeting Faba went to was with his son, Dexio.
Dexio:
[Leaned forward so he can see her and waves] Hello!
Guzma:
[With the nearly full table, he hadn't really questioned why the young man was there. He finds himself staring though as he tries to see the resemblance. Snarks at Faba] You said there's two of 'em? And what Trickster God allowed that?
Faba:
[Nearly chokes on his drink. Harsh whisper] You little heathen-
Dexio:
[Honestly laughs at that, which seems to cut the old man off, even if he's the one getting glared at now] Don't be sorry, I am well aware there's probably still some bad blood after he betrayed Aether to Team Rocket.
Guzma:
More than that. If anything, I feel sorry for ya having to grow up with him.
Gladion:
[As someone who did grow up with the former chief hanging around… Ahem] It is a little hard to imagine considering Faba has made it clear how much he hates children. And having that attitude with his own…
Dexio:
[Waves it off] Ah, no worries there. [Bit of a bite as he looks at Faba] He’s not the one who raised me.
Faba:
[Flustered as he tries to defend himself] What he means is, he spent most of his life studying abroad. As much as his mother and I have been on the move, and keeping up our work, a stable home and education would be far better than traveling around with me.
Dexio:
[Bluntly] That and it kept my parents from fighting over who had to deal with me when they split. [Shifts a bit awkwardly] I don’t mean to hog the conversation.
Burnet:
[Warm little giggle] Nonsense. Most of us already know each other, so we’re just doing idle chit-chat. I think I’ve seen you around, but I always thought you were just a regular tourist. As a traveler myself, I bet you two kids had a lot of adventures growing up then.
Dexio:
[Well, if she insists. He had hoped not to draw too much attention at his first meeting, but he might as well take the chance while he’s welcome.] There’s quite an age gap between me and my brother, so he was on his own by then. He’s right though, I did learn a lot at several institutions. [Hesitant] But mostly I lived in Kalos where I spent several years studying under Professor Sycamore.
Wicke:
[Raises hand, give her a moment to swallow before she adds a bit deviously] Didn't he go to prison for being part of a coup to take over the region? Or was it for child recruitment into Team Flare? It was one of the Sycamore twins, wasn’t it?
Dexio:
… … … [Well that was short lived. Great, now everyone is staring, and he can already see in the different faces how that statement probably looks for him. Especially the look of hypocrisy he's receiving from his father after his earlier comment. Clears his throat] Yes. Among other things I don't think are polite dinner conversation. As one of the recruitments, that’s why I don't live there anymore. In fact, after the mess with Augustine and Xerosic both being hauled off, I came here for a little while with a dear friend of mine to do some exploring, but… [Somber as he just stares down at his plate to not make eye contact with anyone else] Well, when things started to get ugly here, Dad said I should stay with our family in Orre until things calmed down. And when he reached out to me last week… [He feels like he’s not doing a very good job convincing them he means well]
Quips:
[Soft little hmph as he goes for his drink] Sounds like trouble tends to follow you around.
Colress:
I'd think so too, if it were just him. I've been looking into the other regions lately, and it seems there's been trouble brewing everywhere. Kanto and Johto, Galar, and Kalos, probably more. [Amused] All the more reason for me to come home.
Faba:
[Cuts in before Dexio can speak again] Precisely why I was hoping to bring him here. As you now know, I don't have much of a relationship with my family, but you of all people would understand that when it feels like the world is in crisis, one starts to regret these things. I'm hoping to make some amendments. We're not asking for charity though. I thought, with our president's permission, and the fact we are going through several staff changes right now, that Dexio might be allowed to join the Aether Paradise family. He has plenty of skills to offer from his travels-
Lillie:
You don't need to ask, Mr. Faba, we're letting dozens of people into the Foundation as it is. And even if you aren’t close, we understand how important family is.
Dexio:
It's still good to ask. I'm not even from Alola, for one thing, and many of the people allowed on aren't here to work or plan to stay. But if I could join all of you, that'd be a much bigger ordeal, I'd think?
Gladion:
[Closes his eyes as it is a hard topic, but the young man has point] To join the top members here, yes. Even if you are skilled, most of the people here still had to work through the ranks of their respective fields. I know I'm not one to talk, but if you do join us, you'll probably just be a lab assistant to one of the others.
Guzma:
[Devious grin] Or, if you're wanting to get away from all that sciencey stuff, you can come work for me and help take care of the Shadows.
Dexio:
[Perks up] I wouldn’t mind since “assistant” is basically all I’ve ever been anyway. [More relieved than anything at the change of subject away from his personal life] In fact, I’ve been studying the Shadowfication while I was in Orre. They have a history of Shadow outbreaks and, considering why I left Alola in the first place, I thought I could learn something about how Orre handles it.
Moylane:
[Uneasy] Weren't the Shadows in Orre all man-made though?
Dexio:
Mmmm… yes and no. Anyone who knows the stories about "The Shadow Incident" knows about how the Cipher organization created them by artificially closing the hearts of Pokemon to turn them into weapons. "Artificially" is the key word there since it implies that Shadowfication has happened naturally in the region's history, and there's a lot of evidence to back that up. There's rumors and stories about a place that people and Pokemon would travel to be purified of the darkness in their hearts, or to remove curses placed by the Fae. And I know that sounds like your typical pilgrimage or form of cleansing found in other religions, but they also have things like the Time Flutes and a special incense that have a historical record of at least helping during the last Shadow crisis. Which I think is more reliable than tales of a shrine in the middle of a forest that somehow exists in a desert region. [Shrugs] But who knows. It sounds crazy to me from what little I saw, but maybe someone more familiar with the Orre region could show us the way. Of course, it's also possible that our Shadows really are different from theirs, but the effects do seem to be the same. Strange abilities, hyper aggression when provoked, and so forth. It could be a long shot, but all of the information says we can at least find things that will help even if the tales of a cure are just rumors.
Gladion:
[Taking this all into consideration] After we get the refugees settled, we may need to make that our first stop then. It may just be rumors, but we don't have any real leads right now.
Lillie:
That reminds me, did you have any luck with the Shadows today? I'm sorry we had to run off on you like that.
Gladion:
We got quite a few to come with us, but we'll still need to go back tomorrow. [To Quips, even though he's pointing at Guzma] If it's alright with you, I need to borrow that one again tomorrow.
Quips:
[Soft chuckle] By all means, take him. Poni Island had far less to do than Melemele since most of the citizens already live on their vessels, so we should have plenty more volunteers by then.
Molayne:
[Grins] More help and less to do since you've already started. Not a bad combination. [Looks to Burnet] We were able to close up the Observatory today, do you need any help packing up the Lab?
Burnet:
I could use a hand finishing up. I didn't get anything done today, and I told the staff to focus on their families first. I mean, we're much smaller than you all, and the equipment shouldn't take too long to load up.
Wicke:
[Soft giggle] What did you do? Just shove it all into a pocket dimension for the time being?
Molayne:
[Cough]
Burnet:
[Feigns innocence] Yes, why?
Lillie:
[Just shakes her head at them] I'm sure you two will fit in here just fine.
Colress:
[Curious] Professor, you saying you got nothing done brings up a bigger question. Gladion said Miss Lillie was running late because you had some sort of emergency? I understand everything is fine now, but it wasn't trouble with a portal, was it?
Guzma:
Nah, if it was anything like that, we'd be in real trouble. I don't know the first thing about dealing with Wormholes.
Lillie:
She was having to deal with a new Shadow, which you know means someone who is very confused, aggressive, and skittish. We got tied up for a while trying to keep the situation calm and eventually were able to take the detour downstairs to drop them off before coming in here. [Frowns as she looks at Burnet and places a hand on her arm for encouragement] Would you like to tell them what you told us?
Burnet:
[Gazes around the group as the others all seem eager to hear.] I guess with most of us finished eating, we have been moving towards the business side of things with Shadows and packing and all… [Saddened again just thinking about it.] And it is very important for you all to know before tomorrow… [She looks to Guzma as he subtly motions for her to get it out.]
Lillie:
[Helps her out] It's about Roark.
Quips:
[His face falls as concern only deepens] He's not the Shadow you were having trouble with, is he?
Burnet:
[Shakes her head and takes a breath.] Worse.
[It’s still a bit of a struggle to know where to begin, but having already gone through the story once with Lillie and Guzma, she’s able to gather her thoughts well enough to know where to start. How Roark came to stay with her after they’d spent the whole day helping search the beach where the Pokemon Lab had stood. Just to make her feel safe for a while and he said he wanted to talk to her about some things in regards to what he thought happened. And they did. They had dinner, he was going to sleep on the couch that night to keep watch, their whole conversation about what led up to this mess. How he thought Necrozma had merely escaped. And Kukui… With him now safely on board with the others, it wouldn’t be a secret for very long. There wasn’t as much shock as she might have thought in hearing about his fate as a Shadow, considering the monster they were dealing with, but after the agony of searching for him in that slim glimmer of hope he wouldn’t, it still felt surreal in a way to see him like that. The stranger thing, which captivated the whole dinner party, was when she got to how Roark suddenly turned on her at the sight of the Shadow below.]
Burnet:
[Addresses the rest of the table with utmost seriousness] If anyone sees him, we need you to stall as best as you can. Whatever we do, we have got to make sure he doesn't come on board. I promise you, the only reason Kukui is still alive right now is because I decided to follow.
Quips:
[In a mix of disbelief and dismay] Burnet-
Burnet:
It’s incredibly foolish, I know! But after Roark was out of the apartment, I………..
~~~~~~~~~~~
As if it didn't already, here's where things really take a turn for the weeeeiird. Finally the gang is all here! It's not time for celebration just yet, but at least they can all have a little (somewhat) lighthearted conversation and catching up on things. Besides, as we continue to get into Randomizer shenanigans, it seems I need more explanations. I originally thought of having Burnet's story combined with this but it was a little long, and while the table chatter had grown more serious, the shift to the confrontation seemed to bring the whole mood down.
Also yes, RUM Dexio just happens to also be RandY Dexio (which had Sycamore part of Team Flare) all grown up and hoo boy this guy has been through a lot. ....And still has a long way to go. Oops.
Also for those curious in trying to follow along, the table set up is:
Gladion at the head, Lillie on his, Wicke on his left. Lillie's side of the table has Burnet (next to) Quips (next to) Faba (next to) Dexio. On Wicke's side it's Colress (next to) Molayne, (next to) Guzma. Which puts Lillie and Wicke (across from each other), Colress and Burnet (across), Quips and Molayne (across), Guzma and Faba (across) and Dexio is the odd one out (diagonal from Guzma with no one across).
It's not that important to know, just fun. I had to draw myself a diagram for mapping this.
