Some of the characters’ names in Ninjago are so weird (in a good way). It only occurred to me when me and my friend were talking the other day, trying to find the silliest name in the show, and we mentioned Pythor P. Chumsworth, Hounddog McBrag, Dogshank, Bolobo, Blazey H. Speed, and a few others.
I turn and another friend who doesn’t watch Ninjago is staring at us with an expression that goes “what?? These are characters???” And I still laugh thinking about it because if I was in their position I’d have the same expression on my face, not believing such names could exist and be talked about so seriously lol

While I don't have my drawing shit for a while I'd like to just start shit posting. May I present Wu having confusing tension between the ONE person he's actually capable of hating
hounddog mcbrag
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mcbrag at the end of s16 at that point has gotten in fair waters with the ninja because he put them to jail for like an hour to keep his reputation safe and it was a fair trade.
Wu on the other hand, has kept it in his mind that he now utterly despises this ONE man, more than he could EVER despise the people who tried to kill him, because he's petty like that. He's never had emotional attachment to this officer and he threatened to put him to jail (so did the new ninja but like I hc the teal one asked for forgiveness at 3 am and he's secretly been helping them coordinate themselves)
So these two would cross paths and just glare at eachother because their ONLY INTERACTION
WAS THE EMBODIMENT OF
" If I catch you..I'm locking you up "
" I'd like to see you try "
And now NOONE is safe from my thoughts.

Tbh I hated the whole prison-cop subplot in Crystalized and found it deeply frustrating, especially after sitting through the one we got in Skybound. I think way too much screentime was wasted on it, instead of properly fleshing out the actual villains, exploring/resolving other dynamics, addressing the Ninjas' feelings about certain events. But amidst all of the other wasted potential, I really think they should've replaced Hounddog McBrag (probably my least favorite character) with the snake warriors from the sets released earlier that year, as part of Ninjago's CORE line. Because unlike Hounddog, the snake warriors, at the time, were actual sets, and Crystalized later even brought the 4-in-1 mech into the story!
As for what they are, c'mon, it's obvious; They're Constrictai. They're black and orange Serpentine. One of them even has the short minifigure legs the Constrictai exclusively used. And it feels like them and the Fangpyre have gotten kinda forgotten in these newer years, with Ninjago usually defaulting to the Hypnobrai, and admittedly the Venomari in Legacy, when bringing back the Serpentine. So bringing back this tribe into the spotlight would be nice.
Just say these guys are Constrictai bounty hunters hired by the city to capture the ninja; Maybe they have a past vendetta towards them, related to the events of S1 and the Serpentine's failed plot to take over Ninjago with the Great Devourer. Maybe they haven't fully let go of old pains. With a lot of the setting at this point being in the desert, this also makes the tunneling Constrictai more of a threat because there's no structures to climb up, think Tremors. It makes a river an even more fitting way to escape them, if they're bad at swimming.

Instead of a whole army consisting of variants, just downsize them (for the sake of animation budget) into individual characters; Cobra Mechanic, Boa Destructor, Viper Flyer, Python Dynamite, and maybe Sneaky Snake. You could still retain the cowboy motif for one of them, given snakes are usually associated with cowboys anyway. You could even link Cobra Mechanic’s dual flamethrowers to Miss Demeanor by revealing they supplied her!
Have the snake warriors harass the ninja in the desert for a bit, and then they disappear when the Crystal King properly enters the plot. Then when they return, it makes more sense because they're not general keepers of the law, just bounty hunters hired for this specific mission, who already have a grudge against Lloyd and Garmadon and thus aren't really worried about maintaining the peace.
And when Lloyd does make peace with them, it's in the sewers where several crystalized Serpentine are; Seeing Lloyd and Garmadon spare these crystalized Serpentine gives the Constrictai bounty hunters more reason to pause and reevaluate their motives, especially when someone else is hurting their kind and not just humanity. And then maybe they can show up at the end to help against the Crystal King and with rebuilding the Monastery, I dunno. This could play into a larger theme of letting go of revenge, which is relevant to Harumi's story, and could play into Lloyd not wanting to embrace his anger as an Oni (plus the Overlord's return being fueled by hatred).
Dragons Rising still managed to acknowledge the CORE sets of its year with the Greenbone Warriors, who actually show up and play very brief, yet nevertheless antagonistic, roles. If we're not going to focus on the actual Crystalized villains even though these episodes are already airing during their set wave's release, you may as well allocate screentime to antagonists from actual sets instead of making up another generic human cop character.

I Think the Ninja Deserve to Steal Shit
They also deserve to be little feral shits but that's a post for another day.
I've recently fallen back into the hole of the be gay, do crime anime franchise that is Lupin the Third and with its music that just fucking goes hard, I have made the choice to have the first story arc of my Ninjago rewrite revolve around the Ninja committing crimes, stealing shit and pissing off multiple people. Like Wu most definitely did!
The Ninja mainly rob museums because some ancient artifacts hide pieces to a map of Ninjago in the Elemental Era, an era where Elemental creatures of all kind were much more prominent than they are in the current era of Ninjago where everyone is convinced that Elemental creatures as a whole has gone extinct. When all the map pieces are brough together, it shows where temples are that house the Golden Weapons. Sometimes the stuff at the museum don't have the map pieces so they have to find who might have some and where they are to yoink them.
Other concepts for this arc include;
The Mayor wanting the Ninja to work for him
The Ninja refusing to work for the Mayor which introduces the New Ninja much earlier on
Said New Ninja also get different personalities because why not
Hounddog McBrag (That cop from Crystalized) serving as the main antagonist and often the poor soul that has to put up with a lot of the Ninja's bullshit
The Ninja not understanding how cities work because that just makes sense
Jay and Zane being little goblins who try to steal everything because Jay's a klepto and Zane likes shiny stuff
Kai and Nya making multiple enemies because they're main response to anyone that looks at them funny is violence
Cole being an overall chill dude but it fucking terrifying when he's pissed because I feel like that makes sense
and a whole lot more!

crystalized spoilers ⬇️
i may be over thinking this butttttt…
is garmadon’s plant christofern foreshadowing lloyd’s death? cause from what i got from the new episodes is that garmadon is trying to reconnect with lloyd (i think but i don’t speak cantonese), i mean he did almost kill hounddog mcbrag for trying to arrest lloyd.
but what i think is happening will happen is that garmadon is going to use the care and love he had learned whilst nurturing his plant towards lloyd and start to be a father to him, again (why else would the writers make him care for deeply for the plant if those emotions won’t be used for someone else). and what happened to christofern, it was killed which hurt and angered garmadon, so just image of the same thing happened to lloyd at the end of the season!
plus both the plant and lloyd r green

Everything Wrong With The Ninjago Crystallized Finale (General and Opinion Wise):
Spoilers, so bullet points under the cut:
They’re not wanted by the police anymore with no explanation or apology
Hounddog McBrag disappears
What happened to the mayor?
Minimal Harumi screen time (needs to address all the issues she’s created)
Harumi doesn’t apologize or outwardly feel regretful at all
Kai/Skylor don’t talk about their relationship as promised
Lloyd somehow just forgives Harumi for everything she’s done instantly
Harumi and the villains aren’t charged for their multiple continuous crimes
The whole council of the crystal king gets away
No one dies
The Overlord’s death was a bit unexpectedly unexciting
Happily ever after ending
All is forgiven
Kai and Nya and the others don’t immediately jump on Harumi for all the pain she’s caused towards their brother
Side characters don’t get enough attention
Nya has a lot less screen time
No real explanation for why Ronin decided to help the ninja
Christofern somehow grew so much within a short timespan
The government’s issues don’t get resolved
New ninja completely ignored
Wu never got to hit Hounddog McBrag with his stick
No visible trauma emerges (Then again, does it ever?)
Somewhat predictable ending
These are just off the top of my head, so feel free to add and/or remove any points, or tell me if something did happen, and my brain has just failed me in memory lol
