All jobs at 90!
Put some thoughts about them all below the read more if anyone if interested
Casters - favorite role. while not as mobile as ranged physical, you still have a good bit of freedom to move around (blm is...interesting for that) and who doesn’t love casting fancy magic spells.
smn - This was the main job I leveled as and I am very attached to my carby. After playing a lot of other jobs I see how people find it a little too mindless, but I enjoy it. Summoning a giant dragon? Yes please. Also excellent starting class for new people.
blm - This was one of the roughest jobs to level at early levels. It’s kind of cruel that it’s a starting job. It can be very confusing to figure out, but it really shines later on (66+) and becomes a lot of fun if you enjoy making big explosions. It was a wild experience leveling it where your rotation shifts around a lot as you go and new abilities are sometimes very ????. Definitely very hard to play well but so satisfying by 90.
rdm - This is the job I play the most these days. I love the utility of rdm and that I can just spam raise the group if needed. I’m a very average player at best so jobs that make me feel like I’m being useful to the group are my preference. Also the complete combo at 90 is intensely satisfying though I really need people to stop dying in the middle of my combo. I consider myself equally a rdm and smn main these days.
Healers - second favorite role. I enjoy healing a lot though I mostly stick to alliance raids for it. I healed some of the treasure maps and deep dungeons recently which were both a blast.
sch - Despite getting sch leveled for free with smn, this was the last healer I picked up. It’s the most confusing in my opinion despite the toolkit not being that dissimilar to sge. It’s very fun once you get the idea, but definitely my weakest healer. The faerie tether is hilarious and I like having a little buddy to follow me around. I know they’ve said pet classes are tough to make for some reason but I’d love more.
ast - The micromanager healer. There’s always more buttons to be pressing with ast. Not a healer I’d take into newer content where I need to pay attention. It is, however, extremely fun and has some of the prettiest effects. Being able to set up big heals on a timer in advance is strange and means you’re sometimes wasting stuff, but ultimately it works out. Also love handing out cards
whm - Not the most interesting of healers but definitely the easiest to take into stuff I’m not comfortable with yet. whm can just panic heal the crap out of the group if needed. blood lily hits like a truck and is immensely satisfying and holy spam in 4-mans for packs of mobs is so sexy to both the healer and tank.
sge - Sage was my first healer and still my favorite. It’s got fun lasers and a pretty straight-forward toolkit. I’m glad I learned shield healing first since I think it would be harder to have learned it after doing whm or something first. Also quite good for soloing stuff because kardia is amazing. Definitely pleased they switched the addersting to proc off group shields now too.
Tanks - I hate tanking with strangers so I mostly do it in trusts and fates. I occasionally tank alliance raids which are fun except for all the tanking drama.
gnb - Favorite tank. Very straight-forward, cool moves, no mp management. Great aesthetic. Definitely the tank I’m most comfortable with. I do a lot of fates with it.
war - Of all the jobs in the game this was the only one I’d say I flat out did not enjoy. The animations and attacks feel so slow and clunky. The rotation is boring. The self-healing is very ridiculous and nice though.
drk - First tank I picked up. Loved the story, got lost in how it worked at later levels. Aesthetics are A+ I just don’t know how the fuck to play it. The mp management also drove me bonkers
pld - Last tank I leveled. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It’s pretty easy and once you get a little self-healing it really shines. I soloed a lot of hoh with it and had fun. The invuln is very nice and the effects are pretty. My biggest gripe is there’s too many abilities to fit on the controller crossbar. I just could not make it work and it’s frustrating.
Melee - Least favorite job role. I loathe positionals. I hate how much mobility is limited by needing to stay within melee range. Also I am just Not Good at melee and that makes me feel bad playing it.
sam - Tied with rpr for fave melee. Love the moveset, love the fact it’s really straight-forward. Definitely feel slightly less useless on this one than other melee. Love having a rainbow moon button for the finisher.
rpr - This was my first melee class and it possibly has the coolest animation effects of the melee classes. It’s very swish swish and fun and looks cool. The positionals are less annoying than other jobs for some reason.
drg - I love the drg moves and animations but I am just not very good at it and end up feeling useless in group content. Doing buff/debuff upkeep on it gives me a headache. Of the available options though it is probably the best melee to pick up when you first start the game. I feel like it could benefit from having some of the buffs condensed.
nin - I have a love/hate relationship with nin. It’s very cool and a lot of fun and I am so so so bad at it. I cannot stress enough how bad I am. I have no problem remembering the mudra combos I just can’t seem to get jackshit in dps out of it no matter what I try. And it gets a little ‘too many buttons to hit’ by 90. The opener and burst for it is ridiculous in those terms and I always am like wow I did it and then realize I somehow missed one thing.
mnk - I’m kind of neutral on monk. The animations are super cool. The forms are interesting in the flexibility they give you but I prefer the drg loop rotation rather than having to track the buffs/debuffs and choosing attacks each time.
Ranged Physical - I enjoy these but not as much as caster. I love how mobile they are and they all feel very unique.
dnc - This was the first one I picked up. Dnc is very pretty and fun and I like the group utility it has. It’s also a low-stress job for me since I don’t feel bad if my dps isn’t fantastic. It definitely doesn’t feel as interesting at 90 as some of the other jobs though. Also why is it when some asshole early pulls it’s always a dnc?
brd - Bard is fun though it was painful at lower levels. Definitely picks up later on. I don’t mind bard but it’s not my go-to. Also think it’s a decent choice for a new person playing.
mch - I ended up liking mch a lot more than I expected. Guns just aren’t very interesting to me, but the combat ended up being fun and I loved the bioblaster gun.
I think overall it’s pretty clear I value jobs that are a little more straight-forward and easy. I’m not a great player and I probably never will be so having something that’s easier to manage so I can focus on not fucking up mechanics is nice. There’s a balance needed for making the rotation interesting enough but keeping it simple enough for me to autopilot when needed. While I don’t feel any pressing urge to be the top dps in a group (though it’s a nice ego boost when it does happen) I do feel shitty when I’m clearly underperforming. I like the cooperative aspect of the game and I like to feel like I’m contributing and carrying my own weight, It’s one of the reasons I like utility stuff and healing a lot.
While it’s a ton of time and effort and a mind-numbing amount of roulettes to level all the jobs to 90, it’s also really cool to get to explore all the different jobs. Definitely glad I did it.

⭐⭐ What's on your mind?
These asks leave me acutely aware of how many 75-90% complete fics i have sitting in my drive that I would LOVE to talk about here but can't because they aren't posted. LOL
But lets see here...
It Comes and Goes (In Waves) is still one of my favorite things I've written recently. It deals with the aftermath of Lyrha running off alone and attempting to kill the slaver-pirate who kidnapped her as a child - and her utter failure to do so. In fact she would have end up captured by him, enslaved again, it not for X'rhun and Arya catching up. They managed to save her, but it was a close call for everyone and Lyrha was badly injured in her crusade.
While the actual conversation with X'rhun after the attack isn't shown (which calls into question some of the accuracy of Lyrha's interpretation of the argument) - it's a really big moment because it's kind of... the final breaking point in the incongruence between what Lyrha believes X'rhun thinks of her vs. what he actually thinks of her.
Lyrha is certain X'rhun's anger is a reflection of her failure, and that he intends to abandon her. She spends the days in his absence immediately after feeling anxious and isolated.
But Arya is absolutely right. X'rhun was terrified he'd been about to lose I'lyrha to her own recklessness. X'rhun lost people before because he wasn't there when their enemies came to hunt them. He never wants to experience that again - he's stayed mostly alone for decades to avoid the risk, and in the blink of an eye, it almost did anyway.
(And one of those 90% finished fics I mentioned earlier is their conversation when he returns, and an explanation of where he disappeared to for the better part of a week, and is where all that's mentioned above really comes full circle but alas, that 10% xD )
I've also got a lot of soft feelings about Lyrha's relationship with Arya. Having been a slaver for so many years, the initial RDM story arc rescuing Arya from her kidnappers is awkward for Lyrha, to say the least. It's one of the early encounters that solidifies her certainty that X'rhun would turn on her if he knew about her past.
But Arya is unfailingly kind to Lyrha, and develops quite an attachment to her. Lyrha ends up reciprocating it. She learns how to love from Arya at least as much as from X'rhun. Calling Arya "Little Sister" is a pretty literal nickname, and not the kind of familial term Lyrha hands out often (or ever.)
Letting Arya see her in such a morbid state is also a huge show of trust for Lyrha, who learned early and often that any display of weakness was likely to be punished or taken advantage of. Allowing Arya to comfort her in this fic is a big deal.

WoL is summoned to the Devildom Headcannons
Tumblr media
A/N: Bwahahaha! This is fantastic! I'mma keep it pretty ambiguous in terms of job (I also don't know anything about being a BLM or RDM) and race. But feel free to imagine however you'd like!
Note: This is a mess.
Warning: Crossover!
You were just eating breakfast with the other scions when suddenly you were teleported away
JUST AS YOU WERE ABOUT TO PUT BUTTER ON YOUR TOAST
you can imagine everyone's worried face
all of them had experienced this before (except Estinien)
G'raha is especially worried cause he did this to you when he was the Exarch
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile you were teleported into this room surrounded by men
holding a knife
but you were quick to tuck it into your sleeve
you never know if you needed to use it or not
"Where am I? Why did you summon me here?!"
some dude named Diavolo said you were in the devildom as an exchange student
???
"Where exactly is the Devildom on this map"
not you pulling out your whole ass map of Eorzea
"Perhaps is it somewhere I haven't been before? I assure you, I've been almost everywhere"
All of the demons: ???
As you can imagine, no one knows where anything is
you don't know where the devildom is on any given map
and they don't know where Eorzea is
Well
Levi might
like he probably got a game called FFXIV that he's played so much that he's addicted
he might have seen you before because this game is so immersive that he could actually travel there
and he knows all of what you say is true
he probably knows YOU
ANYWAYS
Diavolo tells you that they're all demons
and Lucifer chimes in saying that you'll need protection if you're staying here
they did not expect you to laugh
Hello? You're faced with danger. You should be scared
And that's when it happens
you smirk
"I won't need a protector. I have fought foes more dangerous than the likes of you. Gods, primals, light wardens, and more have fallen at my hand. If you'd like a demonstration-"
like a flash of light, you pull the knife from your sleeve and chuck it straight for Diavolo
Naturally Barbatos caught it between his fingers before it could strike the young Lord between his eyes
this obviously pissed off Lucifer but Diavolo was impressed
"Can I have that back? I need that for my toast. Come on. Throw it back."
Barbatos being really reluctant to give it back but he does
and of course like the badass that you are, you catch it and tuck it back into your sleeve
you can tell that all of the demons in the room were on edge
except Dia
cue eye-roll
honestly there's not much that can really put him on edge
"I had no intention of harming him. It was merely a test. If you were as dangerous as you think you are, I would not be standing here."
Tumblr media
Barbatos
(gosh, I love him so much)
He definately is suspicious of you
I'm sorry but you did chuck your butter knife at Lord Diavolo
and you had the audacity to ask for it back
he does not initiate any sort of conversation with you unless he needs to
at first
he might be holding a bit of a grudge
but EVENTUALLY he gets over it
it just takes time
he learns that despite being a warrior, you're a softie
somewhere inside you
and Lord Diavolo has taken quite the liking to you, and his friendship with you make Barbatos happy
if you have magic, he wants to see it
and he is especially curious about your gift, the Echo you have come to possess according to your tales
he would find comfort in that you too could see visions of the past and future
Tumblr media
Belphie
(he meets you the same way in the game)
but when you let him out and he tries to take you out, you retaliate
but you don't hurt him badly
He just needed to see that you were no one to mess with
(honestly I feel like you would still help him and his family like you do in the game)
You were intriguing
he's never seen a human like you before
wait, you're not a human, right?
either way, you're pretty cool
and he did get a kick out of your knife throw
Satan got it all on video and the two re-watch it to laugh at Lucifer's face
He's the one who suggests that you join the Anti-Lucifer club
I think he would become kind of close to you
he would comfort you whenever you'd feel homesick
when no one would notice, he would pull you aside
"Y/N, let's go to the attic for a while"
nothing helps more than a cuddle
and maybe a nap
honestly he would get pretty upset when you'd talk about leaving
he wanted you to stay
he'd gotten so used to you being here
it's like, when you're with him, he forgot what life was like without you
Tumblr media
Diavolo
Yeah he'd realize pretty quick that his summoning spell was wrong
or was it?
but hey, you were an impressive...um what do you call yourself?
and you were very analytical
he 100% believed that you had been in dangerous situations before
He strikes a bargain with you
you need to get home and he needs someone to represent the human world
this Eorzea place must be something like it, right?
HAHAHAHA Right.
ANYWAYS he agrees to help you get back home IF you stay and participate
as time goes on, he asks more about you
and he enjoys your tales
honestly you enjoy him too
and his red hair reminds you of your dear friend back home
he definately finds a best friend in you
and honestly he doesn't want to send you back
he wants to keep you by his side in the devildom
but if he knew anything about you
you hated someone who went back on their word
and he wasn't going to do that to you
this has nothing to do w writing, but do you tank? and if so, is it difficult to get used to? ive pretty much only played healers (currently maining whm) and i really wanna pick up drk bc Fray but the idea of trying out a completely different role kinda scares me lol;;
Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat--I only have experience with healing (WHM main) and DPS (RDM/BRD). However, fortunately I do have good friends who play tank quite often, and are also DRK mains!
They've got a bit of experience in helping new tank mains get into the groove. I put all the information from one friend (@amasarbulqasar) below the readmore since it's a tad lengthy.
If @nijohirjesyho wants to add onto this please do!
Tumblr media
Tanking in FFXIV is:
- make sure your stance is on
- 98% of the time face the mobs north and stand away from your party. If they come stand by you that officially becomes a them problem.
- take the aggro and make sure you keep it. Your AOE is usually good for securing enmity but you shouldn't spam it since your primary combo will traditionally do better.
- use mitigation on trash pulls. It's okay, that's what it's there for. Good to have on bosses too, but you need to live long enough to get that far. Don't panic and push it all at once. Rampart is also a very good resource, please don't forget your actions.
- you can interrupt moves with a flashing red bar. You should do so when it's a boss casting.
- keep bosses pointing north when possible. Boss fights usually introduce the tank buster early so you know what it's called when it's being cast later. Mitigate and keep that away from your party in case it's a cleave. Some exceptions apply but sharing the cleave is the exception, not the rule.
- if they're picking drk up know the grind is a bit weird because the early class plays... not funky? But its an adjustment from step 1. Don't eat too many pools of the abyss, this mechanic never comes back so don't worry about it. The damage buff is nice but not too make or break. Keep people off of Fray.
- get good gear. Invest in decent tank gear. Make it yourself if you must. As a tank you probably shouldn't be running around with gear 10+ levels below your actual level if you can avoid it. You're going to be hit a lot and your healers will thank you if you're at least trying with mitigation and a decent gear.
- Use FATES to level if you need a break from dungeons. They're underrated but very good. Hunts are good too. These are good tips especially in later areas where you're rewarded for FATE completion.
- if you're going into a raid or a dungeon as a new tank, it doesn't hurt to look up a guide and check how the bosses work. obscure ARR hard dungeons especially had some weird times where they hadn't decided what they want markers to look like yet. If you don't wanna, that's fine, but it doesn't hurt to be open about first time tanking!
- checking with your healer for pull sizes is not a bad idea. Some want in and out and want to hold your life in your hand. Some want small because they're learning too! If you're more comfortable with small pulls and people keep bringing more to you, saying something like "hey I'm new and not comfortable with big pulls" at least is open about it. If they're a dick I can't help you with that other than "your Squad in your grand company is Trust Alpha and while there are some hiccups are a good way to learn the dungeon without random people" if you have the rank for it
- Any time your level syncs down, your stance is turned off. If you go into maps it's turned off. Make sure you check if it's on or not.
- don't feel the need to Main Tank a trial if you're new. It's worth asking in chat, "hey do you wanna MT or should I?" If you're not sure. Don't make yourself uncomfortable if you're not up for it, but be aware you may need to turn your stance on and provoke if your cotank spontaneously dies
- Tank privilege is to stand in an AOE if that saves the party, but if you don't put people at risk for doing so get out of it and then move back in. Try to face all the enemies because you have a chance to "parry" (block ~15%) of damage if they're attacking from the front, but they'll always do full damage from the back
What gave you the initial inspiriation for Ahru? and when did you figure out Ahru and Gaius had a connection far beyond what is seen?
WHOO boy. oh I love ya Allie
Ahru was pretty much made during beta with the initial concepts of: “Hiraeth” + I want to punch monsters. X’D In a way she kind of stems from my long-time OC, Yume, who has almost always crawled her way into every fandom I’ve been a part of some how, but I specifically did not want that to be the case here, so she’s grown much further beyond and apart from that in many ways (though some similarities still remain).
Even though she’s a RDM/BRD main now, she still loves punching things - but man I could not have foreseen how far ‘Hiraeth’ would go with her, how well it’s fit into everything with her growth and discovery of her Ancient origins I just... -weeps softly into hands-
As for Ahru and Gaius, I legit just thought Gaius was gone, yo. But the moment he pulled that trigger and saved Alphy it was over.
Tumblr media
(there went my mind and my ovaries) I mean just...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
:sweats: (Now I’mma start going off the rails here cuz that’s just how it be.)
I’ve always generally had a thing for antagonists and antagonists-turned-allies or enemies-to-lovers so it was like all the lights in my head went green and before I knew it I was in so deep.
(It sounds so silly but it’s legit wild to think about cuz it was so sudden and inexplicable, even looking back in my archives/tags it feels like a meteor just struck with no warning. I love applying that one quote to them the “It was not love at first sight exactly, but - familiarity. Like: oh, hello, it’s you. It’s going to be you.”) And then everything just kind of flew off from there. Bits of inspiration, images, quotes, songs all just came together and clicked.
Personally, I’ve had mornings where the depressos hit so hard and the thing that suddenly gets me up and out of bed is my silly XIV ship. The inspiration and love they fill me with motivate and move me and I love them so much for it I weep.
ICly, it somehow just felt like such a natural progression for Ahru? Even not knowing where the story was going (having NO idea what SHB had in store for us) I had this sureness I guess that this was endgame goals for her. Concepts like the fact she could rest easier in his presence, let her guard down, trust him - that he reminded her a bit of how and who she used to be (something that canon helped her along with also, so it’s not entirely reliant on HIM but he plays a big role in it).
Ahru’s always been a wanderer, never felt like she had a sense of home - with Ishgard and the Scions, yes, but the home she feels with Gaius is just fundamentally different. It’s a peace in her heart and I just want that for her so much.
My headcanons for Gaius are many, but where he grounds her, she elevates him. Wherever canon might take it, I move on the idea that through their interactions she slowly gets him to look towards more than revenge and righting old wrongs but truly moving forward and making amends with actions that really do make the world better for everyone.
Gaius’s imperial beliefs were deeply flawed, but I think it stems from a core that inherently wants to help people and see people flourish and be the best versions of themselves. It’s why he takes in orphans and gives anyone a chance at succeeding - the imperial upbringing just definitely bent it all in a bad direction.
Just as she can relax and rest around him, he can breath easier around her - and doubtless takes no small amount of pride in being such a source of comfort to a woman of such peerless talents (because lets face it, humbled as he may be, he’s still got pride in spades where it counts). Some part of it does stem from his seemingly inherent need to protect and guide, but it goes both ways; while he offers her stability, she breaks his chains and lets him connect and grow on deeper, more emotional, levels. She acknowledges his past but in no way holds it against the present version of himself, while encouraging him forward.
I’m so excited to see where canon’s gonna go because it’s already inspired me in spades and got me scribbling down notes and squinting at my phone in the dead of night to jot down fragments of dialogue and scenes. I’ve been sitting on so many ideas for so long and was hoping 5.2 would give me the jump start I needed to really figure out how things would start clicking together and... while it definitely was not what I expected, it for sure did the job.
But good lord I can and will use any prompt to ramble for decades, thank you again so much
FFXIV April Fools Joke Expanded
I shall call it FFXIV AU: Eorzea Academy
So, after seeing the April Fool’s Day joke about our beloved FFXIV characters attending to high school, I got heavily inspired and add a bit of my magic to this wonderful idea. NOTE: This is all pure headcanon so that means it is NOT to be taken literally! If you don’t like this kind of stuff, then stop reading now!
Still here? Okay here we go:
-Of course, my Warrior of Light is the star of the show! - Ren Kurosaki attends to the school as a new student. The school’s first impression of her is that she’s wild and mysterious. On her first day, she stopped bullies from picking on a fellow student. Many are trying to figure out if she’s even eligible to attend to Eorzea Academy since her documents contained vague information. -Ren lives by herself; she goes from being a bard to going on extravagant quests to maintain financial security. At times, she receives aid from fellow neighbors when times get too hectic. - Appearance: Long wavy brown hair with hair clips on the side of her bangs. She always has her sleeves rolled up to her elbows; she gets lectured by the teachers to have her sleeves worn properly. She wears a bracelet on her left wrist. Her choice for socks is the mid-thigh high ones. -She excels in archery, white and black magic (RDM), and dancing; she wishes to get better with ninjutsu, weaving, and cooking. She’s terrible with tanking and she gets nervous when practicing healing.
- Some teachers don’t approve with Ren’s behavior because she ends up breaking the school’s rules, but for a good cause: to help make Eorzea Academy a more comfortable and fun environment for the students. Some consider her the Warrior of Light because of her good deeds while some consider her the Warrior of Darkness because she only makes things worse. With Eorzea Academy being a very prestigious school, students go there mostly tensed because they don’t want to disappoint their superiors. -Ren does have a harem, but there can only be one! (Yup, it’s a shoujo kind of story fellas). The Remaining Cast: Yotsuyu: The president of the student council and the Queen Bee of Eorzea Academy; many students would do anything for her because of her undeniable beauty. She uses her power to pretty much manipulate the entire school for her amusement and a few students hate her for this reason. With Ren in the picture, Yotsuyu is worried that she will lose her position to the new student so, she’s bound and determined to wreck Ren’s reputation. Aymeric: The vice president of the student council, head of the Heavensward Elite, and one of the wealthiest students of the school. He is also known as the lady’s man because most girls want to date him (he even has his own fanclub). However, some believe that him and Yotsuyu are dating because they are the most attractive duo. Yotsuyu loves Aymeric and already confirms to everyone that they are in a relationship, but the young lord on the other hand doesn’t feel the same way; he doesn’t like how Yotsuyu treats the other students. When Ren arrives to the scene, he takes interest because he admires her free spirit and her endless service to the school. Estinien: Aymeric’s best friend and part of the Heavensward Elite (along with Aymeric, Haurchefant, and Ysayle). The typical strong silent type of the bunch, Estinien always look out for his best friend because he knows that there are sharks out to get Aymeric because of his reputation and some would try to take advantage of his kindness. He has secret feelings for Ysayle. As for Ren, he doesn’t quite get her, but he comes around to help her when he feels like it.
Haurchefant: Another member of the Heavesnward Elite and everyone’s best friend; this boy is very popular among the students because of his big heart. Furthermore, he holds high status since his family, The Fortemps, are one of the founders of the school. He would help any student in need even if they didn’t ask for his help. He meets Ren and instantly develops a huge crush on her which later turns to love. Every chance he gets, he tries let Ren know his feelings; however, she’s oblivious to them. Despite this, he protects her from Yotsuyu’s evil schemes and supports her to the ends of the Earth.
Ysayle: The only female of the Heavensward Elite and highly respected to all students due to her passion in the school and students. She kinda bumps heads with Ren because Ysayle usually goes by the book and disapproves Ren’s rebellious nature. Many strongly believe that Ysayle should’ve taken the role of president of the student council. While her reasons for not accepting the position are unknown, they come to her for guidance. Yotsuyu can’t stand her because the students adore her; so, she started a rumor about Ysayle tempering other students to follow her which folks gave her the nickname Shiva, the Ice Queen. Zenos: A transfer student who attends to Eorzea Academy and students are afraid of him. With him being a crown prince from a different country, students believe that he would put Yotsuyu to shame, but they don’t want him to take control because he would make everyone’s life a living hell. Noticing the student’s fear towards him, Yotsuyu wants Zenos to join forces with her to bring Ren down. At first, Zenos didn’t agree to the plan because he didn’t care; however, after a few encounters with the student, he slowly changes his mind and he grows an obsession with Ren. Asahi: Zeno’s bodyguard who also attends to the school. He has strong admiration for the crown prince of Garlemald and anyone who challenges his master must deal with him. Upon learning that his step sister, Yotsuyu is the student body president, he’s determined to bring her down so he can give the title to Zenos. However, completing that mission will be difficult after he learns that his master has interest in Ren; the Doman boy refuses to let the new student take his beloved master away from him.
Alphinaud: The boy whom Ren rescues on the first day of school from bullying which later they become close friends (Ren sees him as a little brother that must ALWAYS be protected). He’s one of Eorzea High’s best students (alongside his sister, Alisaie). Although he’s an excellent student, Alphy at times have issues with his self-esteem because he gets bullied for being soft. Estinien becomes his senpai as he teaches him to man up. Alisaie: Alphinaud’s twin sister and one of Eorzea High’s best students (alongside her brother, Alphinaud). She constantly teases her brother about mostly everything; however deep within, she envies Alphy because he has done so much that impacted the school while she is left in the background. She looks up to Ren and wishes someday to be just as strong as her so she can protect her dear brother.
Thancred: Ren’s ex-boyfriend. When Ren made her arrival to Eorzea, she didn’t know her way around until she met him; he helped her get settled into the realm and began her small career as a bard. They were together for awhile until Ren dumped him after discovering that he still had feelings for one of his previous lovers.
Hien: Another transfer student, but from the Far East who happens to be the prince of Doma. Hien gathers a lot of attention from many students due to his charismatic personality. After hearing about Hien’s skillful swordsmanship as a samurai, Ren challenged Hien to a match. Both sides made a bet if one loses, they must tell their darkest secret. Although, the match ended in a draw, they praised each other’s skills and became friends. Lyse: Although she doesn’t have special talents like the many students, her family name is what got her into the prestigious school. When she first attended Eorzea High, people teased her for trying to be like her late sister Yda; eventually Lyse grew tired of it and started training to become one of the best monks in the school. Understanding her struggle to finding her identity, Ren gladly accepted Lyse as a friend. Y’shtola: Friends with Lyse, Y’shtola is the smartest girl in the school. She is super popular among the boys because of her sassy attitude; however, she doesn’t take interest in dating. She has all knowledge about the school and students which Yotsuyu has a hard time dealing with her because Y’shtola is quick to catch on her schemes. Whenever Ren and Lyse get into trouble, she gets them out then scolds them later. She is the big sister of the group.
 Yup, that’s all I thought about from the joke; I do plan to draw pictures based from my headcanon sometime soon hopefully.
Hey! Solid question about Warriors. Now I’m just going to say what I’ve figured out during my jaunt from 60-68 so far as a Warrior with both a PLD and a DRK at 70. So please be aware this is in no way a list or a guide or anything like that. All of this is just advice and you can change it as you see fit so it matches your play style/preferences. Now then! Onto the reply, which I’ll be putting below a read more line as it will be long. >3>
Now then, as a Warrior I’ve chosen my Role Abilities to be Rampart, Low Blow, Provoke, Convalescence and Awareness. The reason being that I can change out Provoke for Ultimatum if I need to, Convalescence for that extra umph in heals/shields if you’re worried about your HP or want that delicious shield from a SCH. Awareness I pair with Raw Intuitution to avoid that nasty draw-back of suffering crit hits from all sides but the front, and Low Blow because… you never know when you might need a stun or an idiot DPS needs a good kick in the I mean… moving on!
Depending on the pull I’m going for I’ll usually lead with Tomahawk or Onslaught. If I’m going for a larger pull I’ll Tomahawk the first pack, slam em with an Overpower real fast and keep running. If I have the Beast Gauge for it I’ll Onslaught to the second pack and run through them, packing them all into a nice little mob to crush with an Overpower or two, or three depending on the party composition. From there I’ll try to get Storm’s Eye up as it increases my damage output by 20%, making the downside to Defiance null. Pair it with Berserk and you’ve got yourself a nice little +30% to your total damage, which makes it a whole boat load easier to hold hate. (Especially against SAM/RDM/BLM). Also if you’re lacking in Beast Gauge for Onslaught (or don’t have it yet) just Tomahawk the nearest mob and run through to line up for an Overpower. I tend to look like an idiot for a moment as I run from side to side, shuffling them into a nice little pack to hit.
Once I have my pull finished I’ll pop Rampart, Berserk, Infuriate and Steel Cyclone, just to ensure I have everything and didn’t miss a mob because CONE. This works in pulls of 2 to 3 to however many. And because Steel Cyclone now heals you for a portion of the damage you dealt you can get a nice little chunk of your HP back depending on the size of the mob you’ve got. Throw in cooldowns like Rampart, Vengence, and Raw Intuition + Awareness to minimize your damage taken.
On bosses I’ll lead with Onslaught -> Upheaval -> Berserk -> Unchained -> Infuriate -> Inner Beast -> Enmity Combo. I’ll also throw in the previously mentioned defensive cooldowns periodically, or save specific ones for tank busters I know are coming. You never want to underestimate the power of Equilibrium either. In Defiance that shit is OP. I’ve gotten it to crit me for as high as 8k. While not as good as a proper healer’s heal it’s got your butt covered for a bit.
Thrill of Battle is one of those ones where you can pop pretty much whenever, I’m still trying to time it right with Upheaval so if you figure it out please let me know! But really your self-heals now are Steel Cyclone, Equilibrium, Inner Beast, and Storm’s Path. You want to try and keep your damage output up as high as possible with Storm’s Eye and Berserk when doing trash pulls in Defiance. When on Bosses I’ve been stance dancing between Defiance and Deliverance, being a little more liberal with the cooldowns in Deliverance.
In short: cooldowns are now our absolute best friend, and Defiance during mob pulls is definitely one of the best ways to keep yourself alive.
But in the end you and you alone can be the best you can be. If you’re not comfortable with large pulls just politely express as such. And if they’re jerks to you about it you can try kicking them. If that doesn’t work then leave and report them. They aren’t worth your time or effort, nor should you have to endure that b.s. from people who likely don’t even know how hard it is to be a Warrior/Tank.
Look after yourself first and foremost. You’re the tank, and you’re the one that knows your abilities and limitations the best. It may be our job as tanks to sit there and get punched in the face by monsters and mobs, but it’s not our job to sit there and get abused by our party members because we’re not their NPCs that do what they say when they say and how they say. Be yourself, find your style, and rock Eorzea with the power of your Axe!
