Alright, I think i’m done BOTW 2 spamming for today. Anywho, time for some thoughts in general!
1) I hated how the shrines in BOTW were so cold and dark compared to the bright and lively nature outside (I wish they had all looked like the Master Trials challenge where there were trees and stuff incorporated inside), so I hope if we’re forced to have dungeons they’ll be more like the Wind Waker ones. 2) I hope they don’t make us use the grappling hook or anything like in Wind Waker to move around the sky islands (I hated that mechanic). 3) I’m probably one of the few people who wanted less Zelda and more of the Champions in HWAOC since i’m only really attached to BOTW (and we saw a fair amount of Tetra in Wind Waker)/apparently Zelda’s been sidelined in all the other games, so i’m hoping in vain that we get more Champions material in BOTW 2. Also, Link could stand to have some more cutscenes centered around him as well (the few we got in some of the sidequests in BOTW were great). 4) I only really somewhat care about Riju and Sidon, so I won’t mind if the new gang gets sidelined in BOTW 2 (I still think Nintendo wasted the found family/band of brothers aspect on the dead characters--I love them so much and they’re all I want!! The problem is, they’re dead and I don’t really care all that much about their replacements!!! I dunno, maybe i’m hampered by the fact that I can replay the original champions’ memories whenever I want/read their diaries, but I can’t rewatch the new gang’s cutscenes AKA i’ve forgotten their characterization since they don’t talk to me much now that the game’s over). It’d be great if they have some weaving storylines in BOTW 2 that will get me more invested in them, but currently i’m not that interested. 5) Speaking of which, I know it’s 100% not going to happen, but goddang if I don’t want the Champions to have been returned to life. Nintendo totally squandered HWAOC by not making it a true prequel/canon to BOTW (the Champions Ballad confirmed that the Divine Beasts had trials in order to be synced to the champs, so the new gen use of them wouldn’t have happened without that + Mipha thought Link had changed in BOTW yet says in HWAOC that he hasn’t changed + some scenes like “Champion Revali’s Song” never happened at all/got replaced with alternative scenes that really changed some dynamics + basically all of Revali’s time-relative characterization from his diary/pre-100 years of solitude got thrown out + I feel like Daruk got totally sidelined), so i’m still craving that Champions content. Also, I feel like it’s totally unfair that Zelda came out of 100 years totally unaged while everyone else died. Life seems to really suck for people in the LoZ universe who aren’t chosen by divine powers. 6) They’d better keep it open world and non-linear. I can’t go back to being forced to backtrack/trudge through things, I just can’t. BOTW was everything i’ve ever dreamed about in a game (truly open world + non-linear + interactive + meaningful story + lots of outfits + beautiful landscapes) with Skyrim previously being the only thing that came close to what I wanted, so I really hope BOTW 2 doesn’t deviate too much from that. 7) I really liked Kass in BOTW, but i’m not sure what direction they’d go with him in BOTW 2/i’d be fine if he sat BOTW 2 out. I worked so hard to complete all his quests in BOTW so he’d go back home to his family, GODDANGIT, KASS. 8) Someone mentioned that since the first trailer had underground aspects, we’re probably going to be playing as Zelda with the Slate there, and I agree. They didn’t make a playable model for her in HWAOC for nothing. 9) I want to be able to stable the deer and bears and stuff, but I know that won’t happen. Being able to ride the moose and rhino things from the Hebra area probably won’t happen either, but I want to ride them!!! 10) I hope there’ll be at least a few new buildings and stuff in the towns/they’ve started construction on some areas in Central Hyrule, but I guess that’ll depend on how long it’s been in-universe since BOTW. Or maybe not, considering how there’s still Karson and Hudson even though Bolson retired from Bolson Construction--insta-towns like Tarrey Town could totally be feasible if they wanted! 11) I have one foot in the camp that believes there’ll be time shenanigans in BOTW 2. HWAOC totally threw me off with it being an alternate timeline, so i’m not sure whether we’re going to be experiencing that again or time travel itself, but I definitely won’t be surprised this time around if Nintendo goes that route again (and it would be super interesting to see the Link from 10,000 years ago). I’m not entirely convinced that the Link we see exploring the sky in the second trailer isn’t our Link, mainly because he seems to still have on the blue boxers from BOTW. 12) I also heard that maybe this will be the last LoZ game ever since something something Demise something Skyward Sword something something lore from games i’ve only vaguely looked into (i’ve only ever played BOTW --> Wind Waker --> HWAOC)??? If so, it kind of sucks that I came in just when they started making games with playstyles palatable to me (I had to look up every single thing when playing Wind Waker, but BOTW let me solve things according to MY logic/I missed being able to explore in HWAOC), but at least it’ll end on a super high note/I won’t experience later disappointment, I guess. If BOTW 2 involves breaking the reincarnation cycle for the Triforcers, I would be really surprised. (On a related note, Nintendo making Ganondorf good would also be a 100% shock to me, but it would be great to end on that as a subversion. Yes, I want them to bring back the semi-complicated Ganondorf from Wind Waker.) 13) I hope they don’t rush releasing it. I heard they pushed back BOTW originally (I got it in 2019), but it came out fantastic for it! I know COVID’s been affecting things, so I really hope they’re treating their staff right and are mindful of crunch. 14) I want even more outfits (there seem to be at least two new ones, if the variant of the Hylian Tunic crossed with Link’s Champion’s Tunic counts). Give me all the outfits!!! Also, I hope we get even more hair variations in addition to the hair down option (which is all i’ve ever wanted since I saw the mod that altered the Ancient Helmet). 15) I wonder if we’re going to get a bonus for having both BOTW and HWAOC save data. 16) I wonder if we’re going to be keeping the Champions’ skills. I’m going to miss being super overpowered, if not. 17) I hope Nintendo doesn’t cave in and make surfaces climbable in the rain. Having that limiter is more realistic and Link would otherwise be too overpowered with a super climbing ability. 18) I liked BOTW’s scattered music that got more noticeable in populated areas because it was fitting for the post-apocalyptical/nature aspect. Hearing your footsteps in an open field and the buzzing of insects was super nice and prevented me from getting music fatigue (which i’d probably experience since whenever I play BOTW it’s for 5-10 hours at a time). I hope Nintendo either keeps that or makes audio options. 19) I heard that BOTW 2 is going to be super dark or something, and i’m okay with dark, but not GRIMdark, so I hope it doesn’t go that far. From what we’ve seen in the second trailer it still looks beautiful, but I hope it doesn’t do that thing that some games do where after the midpoint/a certain story point all the scenery permanently changes to be dark and scary (that’ll seriously hamper post-game playability for me if so). 20) If they expand on the Zonai, that would be super cool! Doubly cool if the time travel shenanigans involve them/ancient Link being one! 21) I kind of want windstorms to be a weather feature. We had lightning, heat, and cold, but no wind! No, I don’t count the wind geysers and the occasional breeze in Tabantha. 22) I want a chest in my house to hold more weapons than just the gear mounts. BOTW only had enough mounts for the champions’ gear, but it also had rare items like the Kite Shield and Forest Dweller’s Sword that you can’t get anymore once you use them up! 23) I want to be able to stable my horses at my house. What’s the point of that little area if you can’t stable your horse there! 24) Speaking of Link’s house: where is Zelda going to live? If the castle’s not reconstructed, it’d be neat if Link adds an extension to his house for her. 25) I hope they open up part-time jobs (think Mabinogi) as an option to earn rupees. Having to hunt for Luminous Stone deposits or feed Trott to make money can be such a chore. I think some of BOTW’s minigames/sidequests might count as those, but those minigames were either frustrating if your goal is to earn money (since most of them cost money to play in the first place and the mechanics weren’t always easy), or didn’t earn that much in general. 26) I wonder if Kilton is going to have updated items since the monsters seem to have changed. 27) I want to be able to dive underwater (mainly so I can explore the beautiful reefs over at Lurelin). A dive meter like the one from Super Mario Sunshine would be cool. Also, it’d doubly be neat if you had a separate stamina wheel for swimming and could permanently upgrade your swim/diving stamina (the speed+ swimming items just consumed your stamina faster, which was a pain)! 28) It’s definitely too late for this, but it’s a shame that the Hylians have so many face/body/hair and outfit variations, but the Zora, Rito, and Gorons don’t. The Gerudo were kind of okay with the hair and body variations, but the other races seemed to have a serious copy-paste problem. I guess technically some of the more important NPCs (ones with quests/cutscene triggers) had different coloring, but they were severely lacking in clothing variation. Also, the only old Rito was the elder??? At least the Gorons and Zora had some old folks besides their leader walking around. Very weird, but I don’t think BOTW 2 can fix any of this. 29) I wonder how they’re going to do the final boss battle, considering how epic/cinematic the BOTW 2x battle was. What can top fighting (on horseback, no less) a giant, flaming boar made out of malice? 30) I wonder what the Yiga are going to be up to, considering how Ganondorf seems to be somewhat kicking in BOTW 2.

Zelda x Fem!reader (Post-BoTW) fluff: While visiting Tarrey Town with Link, Zelda meets a young woman (the reader) that Link once saved during his journey. During her stay, Zelda and (Y/N) instantly click, becoming friends. A few weeks later, Zelda confesses her feelings to the reader, asking (Y/N) to travel around Hyrule with her. Could it end with them sharing a kiss, please? Thank you! :)
(Sorry! I forgot to do the friends part of the story and made it something else, but I hope you still like it. Also, I’m sorry it took so long and that it sucks. ~ Mod Cake)
Word count: 2,061
Zelda wanting to know everything that happened to Link before he saved her. So, she insists that he takes her to all the places he went and to meet new faces. Link decides to take her to Tarrey Town first, because that’s the least dangerous place he traveled to and it’s full of people he helped. Zelda seemed to be happy with his choice because she’s have a good time staying in Tarrey Town. The two Hylians are sitting on their respectably beds when a voice calls from the door of the room.
“Link?”
The voice is soft and sounds as if could be scattered under the slightest of loud volume. Link stands and signed towards Zelda to follow the voice. On the other side of the door is a girl with H/L H/C hair, E/C eyes and cutest smile. Link goes over to hug, while Zelda is standing their admiring this girls beauty. Link snaps his fingers in front of Zelda eyes to catch her attention, then he starts signing.
‘Zelda, this is Y/N, one of the many people I had helped on my journey.’
Y/N curtsied and spoke, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, princess Zelda.”
Zelda waved her hands, “Oh, there’s no need to do all that.” Link started to sign toward Y/N, Zelda wasn’t paying attention to him so she didn’t know what his topic was about.
“Well…” Y/N started, “I’ve been traveling a lot but coming back to Tarrey Town more then I should, hoping you would come back and I would be able to thank you for what you did for me.”
Link smiled warmly toward you, nodding his head signaling that is was fine. Zelda was curious on what Link helped you with, she was also excited that she was meeting someone he helped during his adventure.
Zelda spoke, “If you don’t mind me asking, what did Link help you with?”
Y/N smiled, “Well, I was on my way to this Town. But before I knew it I was lost in those wetlands over there.”
“You mean where all those guardians are?” Zelda asked as her eyes grew in worry.
“Yes and just my luck one of them had noticed me. I thought I was gonna be done for, but then I heard a whistle, guardian turned around and a blue arrow hit it right in the eye.”
Link reached into his quiver and pulled out an ancient arrow. Y/N gasped, “That’s the arrow you used!”
Zelda was glad Link was able to help this girl. She seems to enjoying her life even after going through something so heart racing. Y/N grabbed a holed of Zelda’s and looked her in the eyes.
“But it is nothing compared to what you’ve been through, princess. How are you doing?”
Zelda couldn’t help but blush at the contact Y/N was giving. Her mind didn’t know where is was suppose to be, but after what seemed like another 100 years she found her words.
“It’s okay. It was a tuff battle but I’m well now.” Zelda had the nerves to at least squeeze your hand and return the eye contact. Link tapped Y/N’s shoulder and seems has if he wanted to get something off his chest.
‘What have you been doing all this time?’
That seem like a question he wanted to ask her ever since he saw her face. Y/N had let go of Zelda’s hand and reached into the bag she had, which Zelda didn’t even know she had on, and pulled out what seemed to be a map. She walked over to the nearest flat surface and unfolded it piece by piece. It was a map of Hyrule, all of it.
“I haven’t left Tarrey Town since that day, but I’ve been keeping track of where everything is in this world.”
Link and Zelda had the look of amazement on their faces. The map looked just like the one on the Shiekah slate.
‘How were you able to do this?’
“Many people come to visit Tarrey Town, so I ask them questions about the things they saw on their way here. Not to mention the others who live here.”
She was right, this town had a Rito, Zora, Gerudo and Goron. They were bond to know what their lands looked liked inside and out.
“Have you seen any of these places?” Zelda wanted to make sure this girl was able to witness all of what this land has to offer. Y/N looked down on the map and her smile lowered.
“No, I have not…I mean, I want to but I’m afraid of running into trouble. I don’t know how to protect myself.”
Zelda looked at like to see what he thought about this. It seemed he was already think of an answer. That’s when he snapped his fingers and pulled out a bow.
‘I could teach you how to use a bow again and then you can join Zelda and I.’
Y/N face was mixed with happiness and fear. She seemed to like the idea but also had many doubts about it, too. She turned her head towards the floor and spoke, “I don’t know…I think I’ll just slow you guys down.”
Zelda felt her heart saddened at the words coming from you. She just met you and already felt as if she needed to see you smile everyday. So, to but you at ease she said, “You won’t, listen, I don’t even know how to use a weapon and Link and I have gone far.”
Zelda tried to make contact but Y/N kept avoiding. Link placed his hand on Y/N’s and made her look him in the eyes. He let go of her hand and signed, ‘You seemed so excited about traveling when I first met you. You had all the supplies and a weapon.”
Zelda thought about earlier when Link said he’ll teach her how to use a bow. Was that the weapon she could already have skill in. Y/N look toward the ceiling, smiled and grabbed her map. She ran towards the door that lend outside, turned back around and shouted, “I’ll go get my old traveling bag!”
Thirty minutes have passed, Y/N came back with a book bag fulled with all kinds of fruit and vegetables. Link handed her the bow he promised she would learn of to use and a couple of regular, shock, fire, ice, bomb arrows and a single ancient one. She took them, placed them all into what seemed like an old quiver and ready her bow and a regular arrow. She fired and it hit the center of a tree. Link patted her on the back as if to say, ‘You’ve still got it!’ And started making his way out of Tarrey Town with Zelda and Y/N behind him.
•=•=•=•=•=•=•
A few weeks have past and Y/N seemed to be doing fine, although she never left Link’s side. Y/N seemed to talk to Link more, heck, Link even started to use his voice when speaking toward Y/N. Something he only did with Zelda. Speaking of the princess, she tried to get in a few words when they were all taking on there way to the Faron region but it always ended up in Link and Y/N talking over her. Zelda wanted to get to know Y/N more. She knew a few things but not the information Zelda wanted.
After another day of Zelda not getting a word towards Y/N they made it to Lurelin Village. They walked into the Inn and over to the front desk. Link told the girls to got pick out three beds while he gets them checked in. Zelda lend Y/N to three beds closer to a window. They sat on the same bed, “Oh, I’m sorry princess, you can have it.”
Zelda stood and moved her hands in a ‘no’ motion, “No, Y/N. You clearly sat on it fist you should have it.”
“Are you sure? ‘Cause you can have it if you liked.” Now it was Y/N’s turn to stand up, she walked over to the bed next to it. Zelda didn’t want this ‘conversation’ to end so she was going to do this back and forth if she had to keep it going.
“I…Um”, Zelda sighed and sat on the bed the were ‘fighting’ over. “Thank you…”
Y/N noticed that’s something was wrong. She also noticed that this was the only time she talked to Zelda without Link, wherever he is. She tried to think if something else to say but had nothing. The princess must feel awful that her appointed knight isn’t paying attention to her.
“Zelda, I’m sorry I stole Link away.” Zelda’s head peaked up when you apologized. She’s didn’t care about that, Link pays enough attention to her. She wanted Y/N’s attention, but didn’t know how to get it.
“It’s fine. Really.” Zelda looked at Y/N through her brightly colored hair. Y/N still saw that is wasn’t fine, so she tried something else.
“Really? Because you seemed to be upset about something.” Zelda held up her head and shook it.
“Really! It’s okay, I’m fine without Link’s attention. I don’t need it.” Zelda know Y/N wasn’t gotta stop apologizing. To make her stop she would have to tell her the truth but she couldn’t do that if it meant ruining the little friendship they had. But she would have gotten off her chest if she did. So, this was it she was going to tell Y/N how she’s feeling.
“Y/N…There’s something I should tell you?” Zelda look right at you, breathing long and hard. “I’ve been feeling this way for a few weeks now and I think it’s time to get off my chest.”
Y/N has a look of worry on her face, what could possibly be keeping the princess down. Whatever is was it had to be bad.
“What is it, princess?” Y/N stood up and walked over to her. “You can tell me anything.”
Zelda stood proudly, looked Y/N in the eyes and grabbed her small hands, “That’s the problem…I don’t feel like I can tell you anything. You always talk to Link and give him your undivided attention. While I’m just try, forced to travel to my lonely mind and think of what I could be saying to you.”
Y/N was shocked, she didn’t know she made Zelda feel this way. She squeezed Zelda’s hands and held them to her chest, “Zelda, I’m so sorry you felt this way. I was go caught up with talking to Link that I forgot you were there. I’m deeply sorry.”
Zelda felt so much better that she got that part out of the way. She was confidant, she wanted to tell her how she really felt about her talking to Link but that could be the part where it ends. Then she thought, ‘it’s now or never.’
Zelda stepped closer to you, almost closing the distance between the two of you. “Y/N. There is more to way I’m feeling this way. I was jealous of Link and you. You were so happy talking to him that I didn’t know what to do. What I’m trying to say is that…I’ve grown feeling for you.”
Zelda was nervous on what you would say next. She couldn’t read you face, she never could.
“I would have never though you would return my feelings.” Zelda’s ears perked up in surprise. She couldn’t believe it, you like her back.
“Would you like to go somewhere?” Y/N smiled and kissed Zelda’s hand, “I would like that.”
Zelda froze when you kissed her hand, “May I…Um”, She scratched her neck.
“You would like to kiss me? Don’t you?” Y/N had already let go of Zelda’s hands and wrapped them around her waist.
Heat rushed to Zelda’s face, she nodded. “You can, it’s okay. I would like to kiss you, too.”
Zelda felt her legs started to wobble as began to close the space between her lips and yours. She made contact, Zelda’s lips felt so cold against your’s but it was still amazing.

Zelda in BotW is an amazing character. If I had to make a list of the 10 best characters in the LoZ games, I have a hard time imagining she wouldn’t be on it. And nearly everything I’ve seen from other people who have played the game has been bursting with positivity and appreciation for this Zelda.
However, I’m unfortunately not surprised to have eventually run across someone calling her “a miserable cunt” and a “shitty little shit bag” who is “demoralizing [Link] into oblivion” with over 100 people liking/reblogging their post.
There are a couple of things to say in response to this. For starts, Jesus christ calm down. It’s wild to me how ready people are to hate characters for almost anything (and it overwhelmingly happens with female characters--jeez I wonder why). And second, did we even play the same game? Because you know what the WORST we ever saw Zelda acting towards Link was?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s... that’s it. She told him she didn’t need an escort and shouted at him to stop following her. And this wasn’t just the worst that Zelda ever acted towards Link. It was also the ONLY time we saw her shouting at him or being mean to him. Was it rude/crummy/something Link didn’t deserve? Totally. Was it her being ~a miserable shitty little shit bag cunt that fucking destroyed Link’s sense of self worth~? Hell no. How the hell do you extrapolate THAT MUCH out of such a small scene?
Just to help paint a larger, and more negative picture of Zelda, let’s talk about another memory. In the first memory, which was of Zelda preforming the ceremony to appoint Link as her knight, Zelda was acting very clearly depressed during the whole thing. That would have conveyed to Link how unhappy Zelda was with him being her knight, which would have surely made Link feel shitty. So there, that’s something else people who hate this Zelda can point to. But you know what? If you want to analyze things like this, Link also made Zelda feel shitty. Oh, sure, we all know that Link made Zelda feel shitty because of her own insecurities about being a failure of a royal princess while Link had successfully become the master of the Master Sword. But Link’s own behavior also made Zelda feel shitty. We saw in the third memory that Zelda would try to talk normally with Link. Talking casually and cheerfully about making adjustments to one of the Divine Beasts because that’s what she was passionate about! But Link... would never say anything back in response. He was silent. He was her appointed knight, but he wouldn’t even talk to her when she tried to talk to him. In fact, at that point Link had NEVER spoken to Zelda, as she expressed in her diary
Tumblr media
Imagine if their situations were reversed, and we saw Link talking to Zelda and Zelda refusing to respond to him and just staring at him with a blank expression--and then Link wrote in his diary about how stressful that was for him and how it made him feel like she thought he was a failure and hated him. The people who hate BotW Zelda would be jumping on that as an example of what a bitch Zelda was to Link. Even though when Link did it to Zelda, there’s no problem whatsoever apparently. Link was just a smol little precious angel that was cowering beneath Zelda’s “toxic belittling and dominance,” as one person described it.
(And real quick... you know who was ACTUALLY “belittling” and “demoralizing” Link? Fucking Revali. You know, the guy who would walk right up to Link and go on a giant, passive aggressive and mockery-filled rant at Link about how he’s better than Link and Link doesn’t deserve the expectations that others have of him. I still think Revali is a solid character because it’s good to have a diverse cast with varied personalities and different relationship dynamics with each other. But for crying out loud, how is anyone going to hate on Zelda for how she acted towards Link early on when Revali was there being a straight up dick with 0 tragic character motivation behind him to make us sympathetic to why he acted like such a wad?)
Of course I don’t believe that Link deserves any hate for being silent around Zelda for so long. Just like how I don’t believe that Zelda deserves any hate for the way she acted towards and felt about Link in the early memories. They were two youths who had the weight of the world placed upon their shoulders. Link’s ability to express himself was crushed by the weight of the expectations and judging eyes of everyone around him. Zelda lost her mother, was denied expressions of love from her father, was terrified that she was a failure who would doom the world to destruction because of her inability to access her powers, and was was stuck with a successful, brilliant knight who she assumed hated her and had no way of being told otherwise because HE WOULDN’T EVEN TALK TO HER.
But despite all that the two became close. Link saved Zelda’s life. Zelda reevaluated how she thought of him and even apologized for her past behavior
Tumblr media
Zelda made an effort and kept talking to him, trying to get him to open up to her. And eventually he did, and she was able to learn the reason why he wouldn’t talk to her, or anyone, in the past. They traveled together. She examined his wounds after battle. They went out to collect specimens in the fields together. Zelda tried to get Link to lick a frog in the name of science. Link taught Zelda how to bond with her horse. They saw their home fall to Calamity Ganon and learned of the deaths of their family and friends. Their world collapsed. They fled. They defended each others’ lives, each saving the other. Zelda spent 100 years suffering alone to contain the abomination that destroyed their land while Link recovered from the injuries he gained protecting her. They fought together again. They freed Hyrule from 100 years of darkness and set out once again to rebuild their kingdom together.
But yeah. Zelda was such a cunt, right?
I mean, you can’t please everyone. That’s just to be expected. People are different. People have different attitudes and values, and like and enjoy different things, so there’s no piece of media that everyone will have the same thoughts and feelings on. It’s like how on the Nintendo eShop, BotW for the Wii U has 4719 five star reviews... and 21 one star reviews. You can’t please everyone. But again, jesus christ some people are just ready to violently hate Zelda for having extremely well developed character flaws and a rocky start to her relationship with Link that was the result of both of their individual issues clashing and preventing them from connecting and understanding each other even though they both felt nearly the exact same way. And even if you want to insist that everything bad about their early relationship was 100% Zelda’s fault alone, I wonder how Zelda could possibly make up for it... maybe putting in the effort to develop a very positive relationship with Link, saving his life just as he had saved hers, and spending 100 years in Ganon Jail would be enough to make up for it?
...nah. You’ve got to imprison yourself for at least TWO HUNDRED years to make up for telling someone to stop following you one time. Totally.

So I was playing botw dlc and I... wrote a thing... (there are no spoilers in the thing so you can be safe)
...Actually how about I just post the thing here for ease of use
(Summary: With his past forgotten, echoes of Link's previous lives are increasingly difficult to tell apart from his own scattered memories.)
Where They End and I Begin
For as long as I can remember—that is, ever since I woke up not long ago—a woman's voice has been guiding me. She told me to pick up this Sheikah Slate, the device that felt at once familiar and foreign, as though it belonged in someone else's hands. And now she has told me to head to a specific point, somewhere on its sparse map. With nothing else to go on but a gut feeling that I could trust her, I have no problem doing as I'm told. But despite the urgency in her voice, I took a small detour after speaking with the old man outside the cave I woke up in. The ruins he pointed out to me caught my eye, and they weren't too far out of the way, so I saw no harm in stopping to explore them...
When I first set foot into the ruined temple, I was hit with a profound sense of loss. I wasn't sure how, but I remembered this place, the Temple of Time. For a moment, I was certain I had been here before, to see its former glory. I was a child back then, surely. The whole place had seemed so much bigger, so much brighter. So regal, with the red carpet leading towards the central chamber as soft as a bed of moss beneath my feet. There was no sign left of the granite pedestal, with the twinkling gemstones resting above it, yet I could see it clearly in my mind. Surely I had been here before, many times...
But hadn't the old man said this place began its decline 100 years ago now?
Another image came to mind as I realized that. A ruined temple, but ruined differently, with the roof completely crumbled and greenery invading the chambers, coating the bricks. The shadows of pillars in the sunset cut long, deep trenches in the floor, and I half-expected something—someone?—to jump out of them at any moment.
But that... That wasn't right either. Couldn't be, there weren't nearly as many trees here as in that memory. Was it even a memory? A vision?Overwhelming, that's what it was. I shook my head as I took another step into the decrepit structure, trying to shake off whatever had taken hold of me. There was no way I'd ever been here. Perhaps it reminded me of some other cathedral, or somewhere I'd wandered in the forest, but this place was new to me. There was no way I—
No way I recognized that specific statue at the far end of the room. It must have been one of many, revering... a Goddess I should have no memory of, much less a face to put with the name. But somehow...
I reached for the sword on my back, but all I grabbed was a tree branch. I did have a sword, in every memory(?) I had, and that sword belongedhere... Maybe if I follow that voice's directions, I can find it again.
Maybe if I follow that voice, she can tell me who I am.
