I just think if fans of media can "ignore the gross parts and still enjoy the rest of it" they should be able to do that with the fanworks that exist.

That's it.

If you can ignore the canon problematic themes and explicit textual onscreen imagery, you can ignore the fanworks too.

Like oh, you pretend that weird scene didn't happen?

You pretend that gross character doesn't exist?

You can still enjoy the media, and you don't think the creator needs to be harassed/ punished?

Cool, me too, now apply it to other fans.

When the DNIs and zine requirements would actually exclude the original media entirely, as well as the creators of the media, you are not operating within a normal way of thinking.
