Lukas Inspiration || Poetry weaving

"Lukas didn’t want to be a monster - although now he supposed that was his role in the stories now. If he was to be a part of a bigger plan, he shouldn’t have cared so much for a human who he didn’t know the name of. He should have let her die. He was supposed to further a new gospel of darkness, and show that there was harmony there. He was supposed to play a role and maybe out of kindness change her - but a part of him couldn’t. He couldn’t do it. He couldn’t make her give up the choice and he couldn’t let her just die without trying. " From Jaws

" 'We need to show them the dark, then? People can be saved if we show them the dark?' Lukas said unsurely - like a small child trying to understand mortality. It almost made Lizzie smile - the fact that he was so simple to think that anyone would be saved.

"Lukas wasn’t sure why he kept doing this, sitting outside in the courtyard of the Church he once ran. Perhaps part of him did it instinctually, he had on many occasions sat out here after all. It was a perfect place to contemplate everything, the good and the bad. Maybe it also reminded him of those twilights with his Sire, where she wasn’t so scary. The gardens of a church had been a place of peace - the last time he had peace. So he sat there quietly thinking, his hands clutching each other in a pretend version of a prayer, his head bowed for prayers he no longer thought God could hear.

Maybe this just proved he actually wanted to pray and turn to the light, but he was already a monster. He was chosen for this after all. Salvation for Lukas could only be through the darkness, so he should stop trying to hear the choirs from inside the church. He should stop trying to hold a rosary closely. He should move from his spot, even if just being near the old church gave him comfort. He didn’t need it anymore, and more importantly he didn’t deserve it. Surely though he could stay in the garden outside. After all, Eden was the place where good and evil were hand and hand until it tipped. Surely the snake had the same amount of rights to wander the place as did the rest of creations." From In the Garden of Good and Evil

"He really was beautiful, and Lukas couldn’t help how his eyes widened and he paused. He only seemed to remember to breathe when Cassius stepped back slightly arm still wrapped around him as Lukas’s brain tried to catch up with what was being said and implied. The smile seemed too lovely to be for him, and part of him wanted to step back afraid of the last beautiful person that had turned him into a monster. While he had only wanted to be Lizzie’s friend, this close he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be Cassius’s. Not when he was this close to him. Hell - he didn’t want to be, and he really didn’t know what to do with that information. So, he just looked for a moment, and then realizing that he did need to speak if only for the other’s sake he tried to form words. Clunky and not at all possessing the confidence of a former preacher he whispered, 'I don’t want you to let me go. I really don’t. That’s dangerous, Cassius.'" From a Totally Normal Date

I love Thuggory he exists to be cool and hype up Hiccup, everyone goes ‘wow, Thuggory, he’s everything a Viking’s son should be, he’s strong, charismatic, and leaderly’ and he immediately turns around and says ‘OKAY EVERYONE, WE’RE LISTENING TO HICCUP NOW.’

#he’s there for like five scenes in three books but i stg I love him #so much #y’all remember when he brushed off a rock for hiccup to sit on while he problem solved?#there’s something to say about his modern Viking masculinity #how it reflects a readiness for mass cultural change among his and hiccup’s generation #in the way that he recognizes the value of Hiccup’s contributions and knows when to let someone else #even someone who isn’t at first glance the best choice #take charge #thuggery could have stayed quiet at any point and maintained the status quo but despite that and despite his position of privilege #he yelled at everyone in book 1 to shut up and let hiccup think #when hiccup and Valhalarama were at the prison and calling for supporters #thuggery was the first person to step forward #and importantly—he had the privilege to! he was important to the revolution because he was popular and had social influence!#he was the ideal Viking youth so if he supports hiccup everyone else should too!#in my fire metaphor he’s like tinder—only requiring hiccup’s spark to set him to change #and when he joins the whole prison sets itself ablaze #and again—hes someone willing to give up his privilege to do the right thing (support the weak and unwanted)#I’d say he probably recognizes the flaws in viking society and is ready for things to change #even if he isn’t entirely sure how. he just knows things should be different #he lets someone with better ideas step forward and take command content to back them up in self-recognition of his weak points #and demonstrating a humility not often seen in the Viking parents #am I ridiculous for typing all this out? yes #but in a story about revolution I think it’s work it to analyze the pieces and players #if thuggery has no fans I’m dead #httyd books #Thuggory the meathead #Thuggory #my post #I misspelled his name many times but I’m not going back to fix it!

@idealism-sits-in-prison oh yes exactly, it’s this expectation that heartstopper encompass the whole of queer teen sexuality except we don’t ask shows where the main couple is straight to represent all straight people do we?? and i understand the frustration bc some of the people who get shitty about hs (at least on the booktwit/booktok side of things) are authors who have had their books challenged for sexual content, but the thing is, hs also gets challenged! it’s not exempt just because nick and charlie don’t do more than hint at sex and then blush, it’s not “rewarded” for the wholesome feel to it. that “cute & sweet” aesthetic is there bc people like it (and it applies to all the characters not just the gay ones. like, tao isn’t out here getting laid every night, he’s just as stupid & awkward as nick & charlie are!)

and yes, i think people roll their eyes bc they were fucking a lot in high school but damn not all of us were akskdk do we need to be saying stuff like “teens aren’t that sexless” maybe i was bitch there’s no need to be judgemental!!

it is and I don’t mind!!

it’s part of a lyric from my fav song, Berenstein by The Band CAMINO (I know everyone is shocked that my fav song is a song by tbc)

“You were always certain that it did exist

it’s about the Mandela Effect, specifically Berenstein Bears vs. Berenstain Bears, and a past relationship; remembering it differently than how it actually was and in another place and time, they’re still together.

but specifically “imagination so intrinsic all at stake,” to me, is so relatable. this person is so sure of something that their mind and the way they see and think about things is at stake if it’s not what they’ve always thought it’s been. and I just find that relatable for a plethora of reasons that I won’t get in to (not cause I don’t want to but because it’d literally end up being a book)

the best word I can think of to describe Berenstein is “haunting”… it’s raw, it’s beautiful, it’s sad. the passion and emotion in the lyrics is unreal. I genuinely, with all my soul, think every single person should listen to it at least once.

Describe your character's moral compass. Is there anything that would make them abandon or shift their morality? If so, to what extent? If not, why not?

So believe it or not, Lukas is the one I've thought the most about and he's probably the hardest to explain, but it very much depends on human vs vampire Lukas.

Alive, Lukas would be the closest to Aquinas's ethics which follows pretty well with Catholicism's teaching. While he was still not an absolutist - and saw a lot of grey things, he was rather structured in it. Essentially, he was a pretty virtuous man that considered everyone around him and tried to do correct actions as well as have correct good/ virtuous reasons (i.e. he was kind, not because it was the right thing to do, but because he genuinely was just kind).

Undead, Lukas doesn't quite have a moral backing, now having it violently swing. The closest would be a relativist perspective, notably him trying to pick what would be the least harmful giving his own circumstances (i.e., it's better if he killed someone because he'd make it quick, rather than his Sire who wouldn't). This causes him a lot of distress because he knows it isn't right, but he doesn't know how else to be.

He has, in many ways adopted a new 'philosophy' that he is supposed to act like a monster, to 'balance' something, but this is absolutely a lie. He assumes he is supposed to be a monster. It's something that he's saying to comfort himself, and something he does not actually believe. There are moments that he is acting completely separately from what he believes, and it does cause his actions to not reflect who he is. Still, it's sort of a "which one will win" thing .

TLDR; Lukas was a pretty virtuous man, and now he's fighting with his own moral compass right now. Damn these virtues got hands.
