Buddie WWII AU. A combat medic and a G.I. meet during one of the world’s greatest battles. This fic is a legitimate masterpiece. I cannot describe to you the quality of this fic because it is beyond words but I will tell you I stayed up until 3:30 am to finish it in one sitting and was left broken but made so so whole again.

Eddie wants to scream. Eddie wants to talk to Buck. There are questions he should ask - Do you know when the bleeding started? How long has it been? How bad does it hurt? Are you injured anywhere else? There is a conversation he wants to have - If I leave you here I don’t know that you’ll be alive when I get back. There are protocols, in disaster situations. If you can only save one person, you save the one most likely to survive. Beyond protocol, you always fucking save the kid. Beyond that, it's our kid. It’s our fucking kid, it’s Christopher, and I am going to get him to the surface and in doing so I am going to leave you for dead. But it’s Buck, and they never really needed words to talk, and Buck is still looking at him, and Eddie knows what he'd say. He'd downplay the injury. He knows the protocol. And he’d already said it, damned him out loud, he’s going to take you back up top and then come back for me.

Face smushed into his blanket, Buck says, "'m going to hate myself in the morning.” “Not if you drink the rest of your water,” Eddie says, bracingly. “Not the hangover,” Buck mumbles into the blanket. Buck keeps doing that—Eddie tries to give him the out, to steer them away from what happened instead of into it, and Buck keeps adamantly refusing to take it. "It's not a big deal," Eddie says. "We don't have to talk about it." Buck makes a noise into the blanket--something vague and tragic that doesn't quite rise to the level of words--then tilts his head just enough to poke one eye out in Eddie's direction. "You sure?" Eddie looks at Buck--he's looking Eddie's direction, but not quite meeting his eyes, and there's a bright red line running down one side of his face where his cheek was pressed into the crease of the blanket--and Eddie wants to tell him yes so badly, wants to do anything to get Buck to look him in the eye and grin at him again and go back to being stupid and loud and Buck, that for a second, it doesn't matter that Eddie knows better, that he knows he's making a mistake. "Yeah," Eddie says. "It's fine.”

Actually, scratch that—his first mistake was falling hopelessly in love with his best friend, but he’s not sure he could’ve prevented that one.

But the bar—that he could have avoided. And the first shot of tequila. And the second, and third, and fourth.

His seventh mistake was watching Eddie get hit-on by a dead ringer for Chris Evans.

His eighth—and arguably most egregious—mistake was talking to Chimney.

Or, Buck tells Chimney a secret. This proves to be a mistake.

possible the MOST fun I’ve ever had writing a fic. It has some of my favorite firefam interactions I’ve ever written! There is also an incredible podfic of this by @mistmarauder...is it embarrassing to say i laughed my ass off at it since it’s technically my own writing?? but just the energy and comedic timing she brings to it is INCREDIBLE.

“How’s it going, Buck?” Hen asks, flinging herself into the adjacent arm chair.

“Fine,” Buck says, barely looking at her. “But something’s up with Eddie.”

the dynamic between Buck & Eddie in this fic was SO fun to write...poor Buck just has NO idea what’s going on...

wip wednesday

hello it is barely still wednesday lkmasfd i have not been writing much because i have been having. sklmdf a TERRIBLE week, god is really making me his own personal chew toy, but i did start fiddling with a 6x15 coda so. here is some of that??? just to see if it is anything. i was tagged by @comaboybuck @rewritetheending @gayhoediaz and @spaceprincessem so y’all can just klmasd blame them

Before he leaves for El Paso, Eddie makes a rule for himself. It’s a stupid rule, and he knows it’s a stupid rule, but he makes it anyway.

As long as he’s in El Paso, he isn’t allowed to text Buck.

Actually he isn’t allowed to talk to Buck at all - no phone calls, no Facetime, no nothing, but he knows that texts would be his first instinct, so that’s the thing he swears off of completely. Obviously he isn’t going to stop Chris from talking to Buck, and if there’s an emergency he might make an exception for himself, but he isn’t going to just mindlessly text Buck every thought he has. He isn’t going to complain about his parents or ask about Buck’s weekend, or text him late at night just to see if he’s still awake the same way Eddie probably will be.

He’s going to go to Texas, and he’s going to keep his phone in his pocket or shoved in a drawer, and he’s going to talk to his family, and spend time with his son, and he isn’t going to think about anything Buck said to him in the cemetery.
