i love absolutely everything about your new fic😭 i was staying strong throughout the whole thing but “sometimes loving someone means you don’t want them to get what they want, if they might not be safe getting it.” broke me… i can’t remember the last time a fanfic brought me to tears. the different ways parental love is expressed and experienced (or not experienced) in the story… no words to express how it made me feel. i also love when age differences in fics are judged by other people outside of the relationship, and you did it so perfectly. i loved every scene of max with the kids. i loved every mention of max in the story, just in general lol.. seeing his name was like “oh my close good friend max who i love” your max just felt so loved by daniel even when daniel wasn’t being his best self towards him that it makes every scene with max feel like a gift. but you also just write my favorite max characterizations, and he was everything i love in max in this story. every scene with daniel and his mother was perfect as well, i just had to close my eyes and breathe for a second after reading them. sorry for rambling i’ll leave it here but thank you for writing that❤️

Niffty would love mouscedes king and Cupid.

Angel Dust would love Lagoona Blue, Lorna McNessie, and Wydowna Spider.

He loves sea creatures, loves fish.

And loves pink which a lot of Lagoona's clothes have.

And Wydowna is a spider and has many arms like he does, so he likes seeing himself represented in a doll.

Lorna is also a sea creature with amazing style, so of course he'd love her too.

Fizzarolli would love and relate a lot to Frankie Stein and would love the Sally (nightmare before Christmas) doll and the Beetlejuice and Lidia doll they came out with.

Doesn't matter how expensive they are, Ozzie would absolutely buy them for him. (I want them ngl. But I can't afford hundreds for dolls.)

ive been thinning of that "too many characters, not enough development" mh post and im feeling messy so i have a question: what mh characters would you delete in exchange for the development of other characters? (if u didn't like a character's development that too)

hmm thats an interesting idea, probably Elissabat or Ari(like?? they coulda used Catty for that, she's a werecat she can fake being human, theres a lot in g2 i dont get tho ngl) . I know they both got like Plots and are more interesting side characters but their designs always kinda left me like "what was the point of all this" like we coulda just expanded on pre-existing monsters instead.

Jane Boolittle and Lorna McNessie too. And the troll girl, I think shes cute, personally, and love how cringe she is but like,,, we did not need her. Those weird tree girls from gen 2, did not like that.

She was a really sweet girl BUT the person I watched said it was also kind of screwed up how she locked them in the closet with her that one time when trying to run away for auntie? Maybe she didnt actually know what would really happen to herself .... I mean she seemed like she had no idea that side of herself and just assumed that the aunt was making her constantly do task for .. some reason.... ANYWAY all the characters are soo good like the reveal with woodsman made me cry 😭😭😭😭 the trees . Learning about the trees he were cutting . 😭😭😭😭😭😭 like he just wanted to protect the kids and didn't want them to get involved with the beast

BUT that does make me think about him and his daughter. It's like kind of parallel to wirt and Gregory right ? He was the most recent person to BE the next woodsman because he was with the person who succumbed to the woods . so that's why if Wirt let the beast take Gregory then he would become the new woodsman . So did the other people who succumb to giving up had no companion ? They were by themself ? Or the person they were with just didn't take the offer.

I have many other things to say but I'm done for now I need take a nap so then I can wake up in like 4 hours so I can study for a major exam for tomorrow q___q

RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS!!

starting off with one that was pretty ambiguous from all my drawings.. gary and JoD! JoD loves to annoy gary, and shows a pretty strong obsession with barging into gary's business and just honestly being a huuge annoyance for his own entertainment. gary finds him annoying at best and dangerous at worst, and he tends to try to avoid or just get really grumpy at JoD a lot. there isnt much gary can do to get JoD out of his feathers, because JoD will always find a way back to him anyways...

JoD has been the "generational pain in the butt" for almost every member of gary's family: garianna, gariwald, etc. he seems to just really like bothering them!

next is JoT and rookie, which is one i havent talked about! in the party i mentioned (which u may or may not have read first in the other post) rookie spares JoT and stuff... which makes JoT pretty grateful towards rookie, and the two actually become pretty close after awhile. which is very funny because rookie would be the type of penguin JoT HATES.

JoD and skip have some history! im not going to say what kind! no they have not been in a relationship if thats the first thing u think of

JoD also likes to bother jet pack guy! he thinks jpg is a lot like JoT. before they knew about JoT, JoD would just say that jpg reminds him "of someone he used to know"

ADDITIONAL THING: i once made up at cptv special in my head where the gang end up in JoD's dimension! JoD and lorna actually become friends in that. lorna is very sympathetic (like with poltergus) and is one of the few characters to understand that JoD is a pain in the butt because he's longed for attention and has been lonely for a reaaally long time like HUNDREDS OF YEARS lonely

what's your character creation process? how do you come up with a design, backstory, personality, etc? which ones come first? and how long does it usually take?

ohjhhhHHHBoy. p. int ere st?  lotta pinterest. maybe too much pinterest. little picrew. pinterest and then picrew and then pinterest and then sketchbook, and then crying over one song you attached to them at 3 am. 

design is often the first thing that emerges for me? im a hopelessly visual thinker, enough that it’s exceptionally rare for a character to come to me without any aesthetics attached. doing a character without a design feels like im working counter to all my impulses. i have no clue how there are writers who just Make People without immediately attaching a color scheme to them. (quick sidebar: the most recent OC with this struggle was the character i repeatedly told myself i wouldnt make- which is why i find it endearing how many tags are” #op why would you ever not make this”. i didnt KNOW i was busy not-making a cutesy robot catgirlboy! i didnt know that for months and months at a time!!) 

even though i could probably get away with designing people in pretty clothing for eternity, i find i do often need to tack on one level of story or characterization for a concept to stick in my brain. for whatever reason, with my writing sensibilities, that usually means applying a single level of metaphor, often tying back to the visual element. xeno is x-rays- okay, so xe feels exposed and wants to climb inside everything to see how it ticks. roxanne is cubism- okay, so she likes exploring multiple perspectives but is kinda janky about it. prism is made of light, with multiple eyes- okay, zi loves the spotlight and needs attention or else zi will die. sometimes i have characters that come from the other direction- lorna is closed off and feels empty? okedoke, we'll put a keyhole in her chest and go with locked box metaphors. there's a sorta back and forth conversation where the emotion informs the "element" and the "element" informs the emotion, if that makes sense.

i think backstory is one of those things that can take the longest for me to nail down? its often the area that'll receive the most revision, while i "discover" these people in reverse. i try and keep my creations thematically strong and consistent, and sometimes it takes a while of screwing around with these fellas to really understand what they're "about", and THEN i gotta turn around and rewrite their whole life accordingly. ive definitely set myself up in a worldbuilding playground where the visual design also informs a level of transformation? which is just free backstory, bayybeyy. when characters do emerge backstory first, it's because they're very settled into the world, and these rare instances can actually turn into my strongest narratives?

as for how long it takes?? uhhHHH, sometimes i wind up drawing people for years before they finally tell me who they are. sometimes its instantaneous! sometimes the entity known as “cubsim girl” haunts your sketchbook for years, making fun of your art, before you discover she’s an alcoholic.

bad love by key: oh my god. literally no skips. the best album ever made. the day this dropped it made me a worse person and i still am. i have almost 1k streams on this. it's bad for me. i can't even tell a favorite song i love all them so much.
