i just kinda wish they Would just confirm one sided cabtube is canon. its so implied atp, if they can make one sided silvercandle canon they can make one sided cabtube canon

i just notice so much like…toxic yuri in ii, i dont wanna accuse them of sapphicphobia or lesbophobia bc i dont believe thats the case, but mlw ships (fantube and silvercandle) and mlm ships (nickeloon) get so much positive attention in the show but wlw ships (cabtube and tacomic) get so much negative attention or little attention at all (testbulb and soapmic).

the fandoms disgregard for wlw in general makes me upset especially since cabby was a core character for many lesbians back in feb-april 2022 especially with her exit interview. i get emotional but that’s because cabby means a lot to me, especially since her exit interview came out just when i found out i was lesbian

HONESTLY!!!!!! Theres so much more heavily implied/basically canon content for the straight ships especially and its just like. man.

"But just because they gave fantube a child and everything doesn't mean they're dati-" I mean technically yeah but they're giving a massive amount of attention to that ship with plenty of moments and fanservice for them, even Test Tube straight up getting revenge for Fan against Cabby. Let's not forget the whole meetup thing with Fantube either.

The writers DO notice certain ships being popular and definitely play into that. It's irritating to see people feign ignorance about it when it's right there in front of us.

(I remember seeing a screenshot of Adam tweeting a storyboard of balloon having his hand on nickel with a blushing emoji, but i sadly can't remember where i saw it, i think it was in a deleted tumblr post unfortunately.) (So you're free to take this w/ a grain of salt but if anyone has any information on that. lemme know.)

(There's also the obvious. Silver blushing in ii17 and having a whole scene of him saving her from a shark and everything. I know there's that whole ii18 thing but like, there's no way there isn't gonna be some kind of forgiveness or reconciliation scene after they went out of their way to do all that in the previous episode knowing ii. come on.)

(Test Tube and Fan getting a kid and the crew hyping up the relationship at a convention. Easy.)

Even with some of the more "healthy" wlw ships it's really saddening to see almost nothing for them. ESPECIALLY in season 3, a lot of the female characters have their storylines or biggest moments either revolve around men or they get shoved into a guy's story.

As someone who's been back-and-forth questioning my own orientation, Cabby means an awful lot to me too. In fact, the whole Cabby being betrayed in episode 7 stuff was part of what got me like... VERY attached to her as a character. I don't wanna go into detail, but some parts of it hit VERY close to home.

I've also been thinking.... Cabby is VERY strategic and especially in the earlier episodes she's very serious about the competition. But in ii7...?

She goes out of her way to give a lot of her files to someone she was fighting just a few episodes ago!!! She also doesn't seem to harbor much ill will towards Test Tube either until she realized she was backstabbed!

Now why would Cabby, someone who seemingly only allied "for the sake of the game" do something that could easily backfire so tremendously like that? Why would she put her own possessions on the line in that way for Test Tube?

Haha I dunno. just a thought.

Late Nights, Crowded Thoughts

A/N: first time writing inanimate insanity, surprisingly?!?! i hope balloon isnt too out of character here, i wasnt quite sure on how to write him </3

this is a paintbrush centric character study, so the dialogue is very limited until the end! happy readinggg :D

When Paintbrush came along for this supposedly vacation, not once would they think that they would be seated on an island during midnight, rethinking their life choices as another season of a competition that they lost twice in resubmerged when they least expected it.

And right now, in the most straightforward way possible, they were thinking about Lightbulb.

Paintbrush has always been infatuated by her. They can’t help it - especially not when she manages to make them feel lighter with her presence alone.

Sure, they’d admit that they’ve been an absolute jerk in their second season together, but now, alone on an island with close to nobody that they were close to, Paintbrush found themselves wondering, is Lightbulb alright over there?

Sue them for being worried. Seriously. They dare you. They’ve been rooting for her ever since they got eliminated, and leaving for this vacation-turned-competition, they wanted nothing more for this just to be over with just so they could go back home.

But of course, it’s only a given that they would be upset if they got eliminated. Again.

However, at that point, they’ve been mentally preparing themselves for when that time possibly comes.

And if it doesn’t and they win? Well, they can’t really complain now, can they? Maybe they could even surprise Lightbulb with the prize money once they get back.

Ah.

There they go again, mind trailing back to the bright light that had their mind occupied more times than they’d admit.

Can they really win? They had already lost their closest friend on the island, so who can they rely on at this point? Aside from Lightbulb and her dumb yet endearing rants, they also missed OJ.

OJ quickly took the role as leader when teams were formed, and Paintbrush had the time of their life making up for lost time with him when they were unable to in their first season.

One thing that MePhone4 liked to do was broadcast the exit interviews, and OJ’s was no exception. So to hear that he had faith that they could win the competition, they’d have to thank him whenever they crossed paths with him again.

The more they thought about who they missed, they found themselves thinking of Fan.

Fan was an eccentric fella, in the best and wackiest ways possible. A previous fan of Inanimate Insanity who now is a participant of not only one, but two seasons must’ve been a dream come true for him, Paintbrush would think.

But as someone who had already been in all three seasons, they couldn’t really see the appeal of the pedestal that Fan had put this show on.

In their perspective, reality shows are only fun for the audience. It’s always a constant need to be on guard during reality shows, because as messed up as it is to think about, being put in a reality show is an indirect warning to be prepared to get your privacy ripped away.

It made Paintbrush feel anything but pleasant inside, so they shoved it back down.

Speaking of which, they’ve been working on controlling their feelings. It’s not an easy task, and there hasn’t been any large-scale improvement either, but hey - at least they don’t project their anger in violent outputs anymore, right?

They really need to spend more time with Fan to make up for the amount of times they’ve blown up at him, and they regretted not doing so sooner when he was still on the island. Test Tube must also feel lonely without Fan too, huh?

Thinking back — something that Paintbrush has been doing more often than not as of lately — Test Tube and Fan did seem to share a close friendship with one another, maybe even something similar to what they and Lightbulb have.

No, they shook their head, I can’t make any assumptions.

But they wonder what Test Tube’s up to. Since the previous challenge came to an end and they were, thankfully, back to their own body and not just a face on the earth’s surface — sorry about that, Floory. — they haven’t gotten many opportunities to have any lighthearted conversations with Test Tube.

Maybe they should give her some company when he has the chance. She seems like she needs some, anyway.

They didn’t know how they got so friendly with her so quickly in the first place. Was it because she’s actually a pleasant and level-headed companion to converse with? Yeah, that might just be the case.

To Paintbrush, speaking to Test Tube was refreshing, in a way. She speaks her mind easily, thoroughly and straight to the point, which she excels in with flying colours. They’ve never really been close in the first place, but it didn’t stop them from being worried sick after finding that one day, she and Lightbulb had both mysteriously disappeared during season two’s painting challenge.

After all, how couldn’t they be? Especially not after how Marshmallow went missing just as they started getting closer to her, so who knows where those two might have gone?

They don’t think they can handle losing someone - some people - the same way they lost Marshmallow. Even now, Paintbrush is still clueless on where Marshmallow was, clueless in the labyrinth called their mind.

Even if it had cost their place in the competition, they were glad to at least see the two of them safe.

They even got to hold Baxter on their way out - a fond farewell gift from Lightbulb.

Going back to Lightbulb, they mentally scoffed to themselves, albeit playfully.

But speaking of Lightbulb, whenever they think of her, the conversation that they had on the day of their elimination always came up in one way or another. Although with the occasional jokes that Lightbulb threw around, Paintbrush knew that it wasn’t in any ill will, it was simply put - an attempt to lighten up the somber mood, to provide them with the familiar and lighthearted form of comfort that she thought they needed.

Admittedly, it was working.

It wasn’t as though Lightbulb was trying to be insensitive, no. If anything, Lightbulb would know what they were going through more than anyone.

She knows how exhausting it can be to constantly have the topic of your identity get thrown around. Hell, it even took a while before everyone could adjust to not treat Lightbulb as if she was delicate, just because of a label that she decided to be open with.

To be out about her identity was something that Paintbrush has never even considered doing. They envy that part of her - the part of Lightbulb that was always so honest to others, so much that it made them worry about her wellbeing. But at the same time, they wished that they could express the way Lightbulb can be comfortable being herself in front of others.

That was exactly what pushed them to do it. To finally be honest, after years of leaving people in the dark about what was arguably a big part of themselves.

In all honesty, it was a downright terrifying step for Paintbrush to take. They didn’t know how the other’s would react to it, after all. Would they still be accepted? Or had they failed some of what the others expected them to be? What if they didn’t get any good responses at all?

They were scared. It was an all-out and new experience for them, to be open to so many people. But they had to do it. They were scared, but even then, they wanted to take this step.

So, they did.

And up until this day, not once have they ever thought back on it and seriously regretted it.

All the others were so supportive towards them, even hearing Nickel scoff out a “So that’s all it was? Man, you really left us hanging for years,” which they chose to deliberately ignore. They didn’t really care either way since Nickel was just as supportive about it as the others were.

It still feels surreal, even up until today. It never fails to make them feel all happy inside whenever someone refers to them the way they want to be referred to as.

Just the other day, when Paintbrush was exchanging the Calm Down Cabana with OJ, they heard him talk about them on set.

He used ‘they’. And although they hadn’t slept a wink from the challenge, a jaw aching smile never left their face for the rest of dawn before they fell asleep from exhaustion.

Another time, when Yang had accidentally grouped them up with the boys, Paintbrush had corrected them, which made him correct himself right afterwards, being completely unbothered about it.

Sure, a lot of people may think that Yang might be a mouthful in contrast to Yin sometimes, but even he had his redeeming qualities, and being respectful was most definitely one of them.

…They might need to apologize for voting them the last time they were on elimination grounds. Maybe Silver would’ve been a better choice instead, they thought to themselves, but there was no going back at that point.

And while they were on Silver, lately, he seemed to have been quite… ‘occupied’ with something ever since that elimination day.

He was acting like his old snobby self back in the Mile High Pie challenge, much to Paintbrush’s chagrin, but when they were all switched and Silver took the place of Candle, he looked as if he had more things on his mind rather than focusing on maintaining his royal image. It was as if he was trying to find something that wasn’t even there in the first place.

And, well, they knew this because they were still stuck in Floory’s form, which basically gave them the displeasure of hearing practically almost every conversation that everyone has had throughout the course of the time they were stuck there. Yeesh, was that all Floory had to deal with? Poor guy.

But on the bad end, having Silver step all over them - quite literally - was one of, if not the worst thing that they ever had to experience in their life. Then they remembered all the other times they also stepped on Floory beforehand, and their anger died down just the slightest.

All the bonds and relationships that Paintbrush has gained and built, regardless of whether it was good or bad, made them realize that maybe Inanimate Insanity wasn’t that bad after all. Without it, they wouldn’t have met people like OJ, or Test Tube, or Fan, or Lightbulb. Who knows what they could be doing right now if they weren’t participating in this reality show?

However, did that mean that they could stop making fun of MePhone4? Absolutely not.

“Hey, Paintbrush.” Their thoughts were cut off by a call of their name before it could expand even further than it already has. They looked behind them to see an unlikely someone.

“Balloon?”

He nodded, walking towards them and sat down beside them, bringing his legs together, “It’s late - why are you still sitting out here? Isn’t it cold?” Asked Balloon.

Paintbrush shrugged, “Somehow, I feel like I should also be telling you the same thing,” they said instead of giving him the answer that he asked them for, completely avoiding the question, “The wind is pretty strong on the island at night, so you might want to go unless you like, I dunno, get blown away or something.”

“Very funny,” Balloon huffed, “And how are you sure that the wind won’t mess your bristles up?”

They paused.

Then they shot their arm up to check their bristles, carding their hand through it, “Ballon, are you serious? Do my bristles really look messy?! Ugh… This is going to be such a pain to straighten up again if it is!” They groaned, all the while Balloon giggled.

“What? What’s so funny? Can’t you see that someone is having a crisis right now!?”

“Aha-! I’m sorry! I was just… messing with you.”

“You’ve really been hanging around Nickel too much…” They sighed, “Didn’t TK say something about him being a bad influence or something? What is she, your mom?”

The comment makes Balloon let out a small laugh, “I hope not,” he says, “I think I’d rather have Silver as my dad than have TK as my mom.”

“Wait, wait, wait, pause right there! Are you for real? Really?” Gasped Paintbrush, completely in disbelief of how he, for some twisted reason, chose Silver Spoon of all people over Tea Kettle.

Ballon, on the other hand, was genuinely confused. “Oh, jeez. Is he really that bad?”

“‘Bad’ is an understatement,” they muttered, “Tea Kettle’s way better than that royal pain in my ass.”

Because Balloon hadn’t gotten many opportunities to talk to Silver, he was more than intrigued about what made Paintbrush dislike him so strongly, “Tell me about it!”

That was how they spent the rest of the night, chatting away like time had stopped to wait for them. Surprisingly, they stayed out for a pretty long time, and they got on pretty well, too. Balloon was someone that they never pictured themselves getting along with, and clearly, tonight had certainly proved them wrong.

To have an actual lighthearted conversation with him for once made Paintbrush think that maybe Balloon wasn’t such a bad person after all. Maybe he had actually grown past his mistakes from their first season.

After a little more chit-chat, they both went their own separate ways and called it a night.

Paintbrush was glad to be friends with such a wide variety of people. After a night of wondering, thinking, and a lot of reminiscing, it was about time for them to actually go to bed.

Tomorrow awaits another challenge, after all, and they fully intend to give it all they have. This wasn’t where they planned on losing just yet.

For OJ’s sake, for Lightbulb’s, and maybe even Fan’s, they’ll try their hardest to win for them.
