- Bertram has loved coming up with stories ever since he was a kid, and has wanted to be a writer ever since he found out that was something one could do. He has been working on his first book since his sixth year at Hogwarts, and still doesn't feel like it's quite there yet. He doesn't particularly love his job at The Daily Prophet, and can often be a little too blunt with his advice, but it gives him the chance to get paid to write. In addition to a love of the written word Bertram is a talented musician, having taken up several instruments in his young life. While he has a natural talent of playing by ear he was determined to learn how to properly read music as well. This determination is something that has spilled over into many other aspects of his life as well.

Boggart: Failure

- Bertram's biggest fear in life is being a failure. This often gives him an unhealthy determination and sometimes even causes him to obsess over things. This fear also means that so much of what they do is out of seeking validation from others.

- Despite actually being quite extroverted naturally, Bertram's demeanor can often cause people to mistake him for not really wanting to be around people. Sometimes this is the case, but he does often need to absorb the energy of people around him. He doesn't even need to actively be hanging out with people, he just needs to be around other people sometimes to absorb their energy. Bertram is the kind of person that wants to be helpful, but oftentimes in doing so can be a bit too truthful or blunt in the process, and doesn't always understand that others might not like that. Bertram is curious as well, which is both a good and bad thing. Curiosity has lead to him learning and achieving many things, but it has also been the source of him getting into trouble in the past

Much like an adder Bertram is typically non-aggressive, choosing to just go about his day without conflict (mostly of the physical variety.) However, if that is disturbed then much like the adder Bertram will strike back without hesitation.

Bertram hadn't spotted the other come in, he had been too busy staring down into his mug and contemplating going back over to the bar to grab another one. It wasn't until he lifted his head up that he noticed an old classmate had taken it upon herself to sit across from him without a word. 

"How's everything with your family going?" She asked suddenly after a long pause of rather awkward silence.

 "I haven't seen much of them lately." Bertram admitted, it had been a few years at least. "They're all too busy with my sister and her baby or babies, she has two of them now. One technically isn't a baby anymore, but that's not the point. The point is they're too busy with all that to even notice that I haven't actually been home or even in the muggle world for the past couple of years. So, I'd say that's how things are with my family"

"I'm sorry?" her face had a look of confusion on it as she wasn't quite sure how she was supposed to feel about the response, the confusion quickly left it though, "so what about you? Anyone special in your life? Any plans on having kids? It seems like everyone is getting married and having babies these days, I've been to so many weddings in the past couple of months I feel like you'd find cake if you cut me open"

Bertram shook his head at the question, "no plans for any of that. I guess I get why people are doing it so often now, but it kind of feels like they're doing it because they think they have to. If they don't do it now then something might happen and they won't be able to cause they'll be dead." 

She bit her lip as she processed his answer, especially the last part. "Do you mean because something might happen like it did at Ilvermorny? My cousin thinks it was Voldemort, but I don't know. He feels pretty dead to me"

Her statement caused him to raise his brows for a moment, "Well, do you have any ideas on who would have been behind it if it wasn't him? An attack on a wizarding school feels kind of like something he'd do, doesn't it? Even if he wasn't there I'm sure he orchestrated it somehow."

"If he is back do you think he and his followers are going to try and find the cursed vaults?" 

Bertram shrugged "Probably"

"What do you think is even inside of them?"

"Cursed objects or dark curses that are waiting to be unleashed upon the wizarding world. It's pretty much right there in the name, Cursed Vaults. Of course that could just be a title to deter people from trying to find it and inside is the all the secrets of the universe or the everlasting gobstopper"

"Everlasting gobstopper?"

"It's a muggle thing"

1, 2 and 12 for the reading asks :D

1. What are 2-5 already published fiction books you think you want to read in 2023?

Omg I do have a backlog spanning till 2019. The years vary in terms of publishing but 2019 was the year I started reading lots again. So trying to fit this into 5 might be hard

1. Babel by R.F. Kuang - I had my eye on this the moment I saw it was gonna tackle the elitism, colonialism and racism in academia. Books under dark academia don't really explore this as much as they should which is what turned me off from reading them.

The discourse—if you could even call it that bc it really is white people who made reading books and ~academia~ their personality complaining that the book calls them out—that surrounds it is so funny which makes me want to read it even more. The point really just flew over their heads despite having books as their personality.

2. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn - Funnily enough this is another academia book that calls out white academia. I did start on this a year or so ago but wasn't quite in the mood for it (it was YA and written in first person which could get jarring for me) but I do want to return to it. It has an exciting premise and the 2nd book came out a couple of months ago.

3. Gun Dealer's Daughter by Gina Apostol

As I mentioned in a few text posts, I wanna read more modern Filipino literary novels—at least the ones I could access outside of the Philippines lmao and I've seen this get recommended a lot. So I'm gonna read it (and also Apostol's other literary novels)

Gina Apostol also did the intro for the Penguin Classics collection of Nick Joaquin's short stories, The Woman With Two Navels which I also highly highly recommend. Beyond culture, I was drawn to it bc of the tropical gothic lmao.

4. Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler

So another goal I have this year is to read more classic sci fi (or modern classic in this case but the term classic itself is really muddy). Parable of the Sower is something I've been kinda wanting to read for awhile now. The premise is surely interesting and something that is relevant for us right now with the changing climate.

5. A Restless Truth by Freya Marske

I thought A Marvellous Light was okay. Not a great read but not a bad one either. It was definitely one of those the author wanted to write romance novel with fantasy elements but the books need to be shelved in fantasy so they had to add more fantasy notes on it but still primarily a romance read. And that got so jarring in this book as it reads like it can't decide if it wants to lean fantasy or lean romance.

That being said I do wanna read the sequel featuring wlw lmao. I wanna read a fun sapphic light fantasy novel. Like sapphics do get the hard sf/f novel that's less romance focused which tbh I do like...I just want more variety (likewise I wish to see more hard sf/f mlm novels).

2. What are 2-5 already published nonfiction books you think you want to read in 2023?

Akkfksnfs I wanna read more non-fiction books this year too. I mean one of them is for work so I won't count that.

1. How to Stand Up to a Dictator by Maria Ressa I think everyone needs to read this book and also watch Maria Ressa's PBS documentary (available on Youtube), especially if you're wondering about the rise of authoritarian governments in the last few years (and how socmed plays a hand).

2. Ducks by Kate Beaton. A graphic novel I know but Kate Beaton is someone who I've been kinda following for awhile now. Her memoir of her years working at the Alberta oil sands would be interesting for sure considering how everyone treats Alberta as the province you go to make lots of money in despite of the environmental implications of the tar sands.

3. Travesty by Lillian-Yvonne Bertram - This is a poetry book. I know there is a poetry question in this ask meme. I don't care. Poetry is technically non fiction lmao so I'm counting it. The style of this book is based on programming which as a dev definitely piques my interest.

12. What's your 2023 stance on rating/reviewing books?

I think everyone should be more unhinged in terms of leaving ratings and reviews. Authors don't look at these reviews or at least they aren't supposed to (some do and they are annoying about it). Some books do deserve that 1 star. Sometimes a book doesn't deserve to be rounded up to 4 stars and thank GOD storygraph allows for not only half stars but for .25 and .75 stars as well. (Switch to storygraph im telling you. Don't use goodreads).

I mean I was pretty scathing in terms of the critiques I gave towards the books I read last year. My average rating in 2022 is 3.92. Like I paid for this with my time and money. My library had to order this book AND stock it. My taxes go to my library. I don't like giving pity stars for the sake of writing a book. Fanfic authors could write outstanding novels for FREE. If someone has to spend money on it, then the least you could do is write a good book.

I want to know about Nadine’s old, reliable car parked outside the Bertrams complex where she lives. I want to know what music she listens to, or if she just drives around flipping radio stations. I want to see her 1990s stash of Zoobooks and snoop on which documentaries she has queued up for if/when she gets back from the deathmarch with the reckless Frazer lady because she can’t bear to take her dad’s calls.

What happened to her just before U:TLL? What if she had an intro cinematic too? What would she do while mourning the loss of power, except be in her pajamas at four o’clock, lying on her side in bed listening to his baritone isiZulu words from the answering machine and rolling so her back’s to it? And she’s facing Diddy Kong?

Who did she tell where she was going? Her two or three old aunts on her mother’s side that she speaks Setswana with at family gatherings, quietly? Her cousin who wants to be a pediatrician, who always shocks everyone by asking to hold their baby, and then cradling it in his left arm and speaking to it, when she remembers him when he was a baby himself? Did she tell anyone?

I want to see Nadine massaging her temple, covering her eyes with her hand, because the ugly yellow almost-sunset sky is too bright, even through the blinds in the window above her bed. She regrets everything as she reaches for her phone, and it’s funny, regretting what hasn’t even happened yet.

“Hello?” says a voice, Australian accent, mixed with something else.

Nadine puts it to her ear, and responds, “Is this--Frazer?”

“Oh--Chloe’s fine. Who’s this?”

“Sure, Frazer. It’s Nadine Ross. I heard you had a job.”

WIP Wednesday, Morning Edition

Since a good portion of my vacation was dedicated to doll customization, there will be a second one of these later, after I’ve snapped some in-progress pictures. For now, though, for my usual Downton audience, a longer-than-usual chunk from one of my novels-in-progress.

I thoroughly blame @alex51324 for writing the wonderful “Jeeves and the Inferior Valet” and thus introducing me to Wodehouse. While this isn’t in anyway related to that fic, other than the obvious subject matter, I feel that is absolutely credit that should be given. I’ve been working on this piece, off and on, for a couple of years now. If we all live to be 90, you may get to read it complete! As it is, I’m trying to nudge it along right now, so here, have the opening:

It seems to me that one must never be too glad to be alive. That is to say, whenever one is feeling his best, his most topping self, Fate seems to take it as a personal affront and sets about correcting things. On the morning of which I speak, I woke perfectly refreshed. I felt so all together zippy that if someone had barged into my bedroom and insisted on a conversation before I’d downed a single cup of tea, I might well have nearly managed. The weather was clement and with the help of a horse named Dark Secret who had managed a rather impressive win the day before, so was my bank account. Of course, a Wooster never has much to worry about when it comes to affording life’s niceties, but it is always nice to come out on the proper side of these things. Yes, it was with this sunny outlook on life that I applied myself to breakfast and was tucking into the eggs and b. when Jeeves appeared with two clouds to shadow my good cheer.

“Mrs. Travers called earlier, sir,” he informed me.

“Aunt Dahlia?” The news was somewhat surprising, I admit, but no cause for alarm. After all, Aunt Dahlia is my good aunt. That is to say, my better aunt. That is to say the aunt who isn’t Aunt Agatha who could turn a gorgon to stone with her glare and is forever trying to shackle me with a job or a wife, preferably both. “What does she want?”

“As the owner and editor of Milady's Boudoir, she has been invited to spend the weekend in Yorkshire at the estate of the Earl of Grantham,” Jeeves reported dutifully. “The Earl’s younger daughter, the Marchioness of Hexham, runs the Sketch and has apparently organized a small gathering of women in the profession.”

“Hexham?” The Woosters might be gentlemen, but none of us can boast of hobnobbing with the upper echelons of the peerage. Once you get past the honorable misses and misters, we find ourselves a bit outclassed, no matter how noble our hearts. Still, one hears of people, in the right circles, and nothing I’d heard about the Marquess of Hexham had lead me to believe he’d be married before the age of sixty, and then under great protest. “When did the Marquess of Hexham find time to get married? Isn’t he the one who’s always off in Tangiers?”

“That was the previous Lord Hexham,” Jeeves corrected my error. “If you’ll recall sir, he died last year. Malaria, I believe.”

“Oh, that’s right. Dashed sorry to hear that.” Admittedly, I never actually met the man in my life, but there are some things you simply feel sorry about. Forgetting someone has died is one of them.

“He was quite well liked in certain circles and will be missed. His cousin, the current Marquess, was married this past December.”

Clearly I was on the right page now, but something still seemed a bit rummy about it. “But isn’t the family home in Northumberland? Why wouldn’t the Marchioness have it there?”

“I have no idea, sir.”

The only thing I could think of was that the size of the building was more accommodating to the cause. “I can’t imaging an Earl having a grander house than a Marquess.”

“It would seem odd, sir.”

“Still, I suppose if you’re a Marchioness who wants to have a to-do at her father’s house, and he’s only an Earl, you can jolly well do as you please and not much he can do about it, what?”

“I would imagine so, yes sir. Whatever the lady’s reasoning for the location, Mr. Travers has been taken ill, and so Mrs. Travers would like you to come with her to help make up the numbers at dinner.”

“That is straight out,” I replied, with a fair amount of relief. I like Aunt Dahlia well enough, but spending more time with her than it takes to enjoy a dinner from her French chef Anatole is generally courting disaster. A fellow could easily find himself in chokey for the theft of a cow creamer, for instance. “I have a very important dinner at the Drone’s club tomorrow night and it is imperative I don’t miss it.”

“Very good, sir. Mrs. Gregson also called.”

“Aunt Agatha?” I nearly choked on a piece of bacon. The day suddenly seemed less sunny. That is to say, while the first cloud didn’t look so alarming, this one promised rain, thunder, and possibly a lightening strike or two. “And the purpose of her call?” I asked, once I’d cleared the old palate.

“She wishes you to have dinner with her tonight,” Jeeves replied, making it seem like a remarkably mundane event. Meals with Aunt Agatha are never mundane, and not because she has an extraordinary French chef. Her chef is of the perfectly ordinary, English variety.  “Apparently there is a young lady by the name of the right Honorable Miss Proops she believes you should meet.”

If there is any announcement perfectly calculated to make the Wooster blood run cold, it’s hearing that Aunt Agatha wants me to meet a young lady. The woman is determined to see me married off and churning out offspring like crumpets from a bakery. I hardly see why since she makes no attempt to disguise the fact she doesn’t like me. I’d think she’d prefer me to die a childless bachelor, rather than populating the world with little Bertrams. What’s worse, she seems to think I should be attached to an ‘improving’ sort of woman, the sort that keeps up on Freud and the other philosophers and carries on the sort of academic conversation one avoided at Oxford. “Grim business, Jeeves. Very grim.”

“I can not imagine it would be a pleasant evening for you, sir.”

“No, not pleasing in the least. Especially since there is only one reason that Aunt Agatha ever wants me to meet a Miss anyone. If I’m not careful, I’ll be engaged by the dessert course. ” I prodded at my e., suddenly devoid of appetite. “Still, I daren’t not attend, not without jolly good reason. What do you suggest?” I gave him my most imploring look. If ever I was in need of that amazing brain of his, it was now.

“I would suggest you go to Yorkshire with Mrs. Travers, sir,” Jeeves replied with a promptness that bespoke forethought. I began to suspect he’d presented the phone calls to me in the order he did for a purpose, and I was soon to be proven correct. “Since you learned of her offer first, Mrs. Gregson can, with a reasonable amount of truthfulness, be told it was a previous engagement. It has the further advantage of being well away from London and, according to an acquaintance of mine who happens to live in the very village we will be visiting, has lovely weather this time of year.”

“The old Metrop. does get a bit oppressive around this season,” I agreed, quickly warming to the idea. There was still only one point of hesitation. “This Earl, though. He doesn’t happen to collect antique silver, does he?”

“No sir. Lord Grantham is known for collecting snuff boxes, which none of your family is interested in, and favors Labradors over terriers for canine companionship. Also, his two living daughters are both safely married.”

I needed no further convincing. “Right-ho, Jeeves! Call Aunt Dahlia and let her know we’d be delighted to accompany her. Then pack my cases for the country. This will be a perfect chance to wear my new tie!”

“Not the Macclesfield, sir, surely.”

I did not like the tone in which he said that. Largely, I have come to accept Jeeves’s view on the contents of my wardrobe, hidebound as it is, but there are days it seems he’s going absolutely backwards. “And what’s wrong with it?”

“While it is a fine tie in many regards, it does not suite your complexion-.”

“Hang my complexion, Jeeves,” I countered gamely, before he could add his customary ‘sir’. “Every once in awhile a man’s complexion needs something new, something zippy to shake it up.” He looked ready to protest, so I fixed him with my steeliest gaze. Absolutely unbendable. “I will wear it, Jeeves!”

“Very good, sir.”

As he was turning to leave, a thought occurred to me. “By the way, you said Lord Grantham’s two living daughters were married. Has he any others?”

“His Lordship’s youngest daughter, Mrs. Sybil Branson nee Crawley, died in childbirth back in 1920. Her husband, Mr. Branson, lives at Downton with his in-laws.”

“Ah. Good to know.” Storing that information away in my head as something not to bring up over dinner, I turned my attention to finishing my breakfast.

So there you go! The suitably improbable intro! At least, I feel it’s pretty durn unlikely, even before the movie, that Edith would hold a writer’s conference at Downton, or if she did that she’d invite Aunt Dahlia, etc. But this isn’t about realism, it’s about having an excuse to write Bertie being an idiot and Thomas being a snark face in the same story. Who says you can’t have everything?

In other news, I fully understand why Wodehouse spent so much time writing Jeeves and Wooster stories. Bertie’s a blast!

Dragon’s Lair (Do you read this or not read this? Wrong choice. You die)

Back in the days when arcades were more than driving games, Big Game Hunter and Dance Dance Revolution (and you used actual quarters to play them). I spent many weeks’ allowance playing Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Galaga, and the like.

However, in 1983 a game-changer hit the arcades...

Dragon’s Lair was a video game whose images weren’t generated by lines of computer code, but by actual animation (from the studios of Don Bluth, the people who animated The Secret of Nimh and An American Tail) The player “controlled” a knight known as Dirk the Daring as he navigated the game. (Essentially, the player watched the animation, and at certain points (usually indicated by a flash on the screen) had to either move the joystick in a certain direction or press the Sword button. Failure to do so ended horribly for Dirk)

There were two other video games animated by Bluth’s studios: “Dragons Lair II: Time Warp” (in which Daphne, now married to Dirk, is once again kidnapped) and “Space Ace” (in which you play wimpy space pilot Dexter (who has the power to “hulk up” into the hunky hero Space Ace), who along with his partner/girlfriend Kimbery must stop the evil Commander Borf from taking over Earth) Of the three, Space Ace was my favorite, though I never actually beat any of them.

A year later, ABC aired a series created by the Ruby/Spears animation studio that lasted one season (what is it about ABC Saturday mornings that most of their series could only run for one season without cancellation or reinvention?)

Joining Dirk and Daphne in Dragon’s Lair are Dirk’s squire Timothy and horse Bertram, as well as Daphne’s father King Ethelred. The series also tried to have a similar feel to the game in that during the cliffhanger before commercials, the viewer was posed with a number of options as to how Dirk could deal with the threat. Upon the return from the bathroom ad break, the narrator would show how each of the wrong choices would end badly for Dirk before showing the correct choice and going on with the story.

As you can tell from the intro, the animation isn’t nearly as polished as Bluth’s work (but it’s for a weekly show as opposed to a single production, so quality was going to be a bit less) but they did a passable job of getting the correct look.  Also, for a brave knight, Dirk is a little awkward when it comes to Daphne, and Daphne is a bit of an adventure hound (always wanting to go with Dirk into danger) and the “adventure” is not as action-packed and dangerous as the video game, but for the under-10 crowd, it’s decent enough. As I’m sure you know, Watch Cartoons Online has the complete series, and if anyone has a request for an episode, please let me know.

A quick note that CBS’s Saturday Supercade (which featured embarrassing adaptations of popular arcade games of the time, including Donkey Kong and Q-Bert) featured a Space Ace cartoon. The less said about it the better.

I have recently learned that Ryan Reynolds will be producing (along with Don Bluth) and starring in a live action Dragon’s Lair film for Netflix. I hope he gives it the affectionate treatment he gave Deadpool (though I kind of think Jim Carrey would a better fit for Dirk)

But not two minutes into the game and I'm already stressed out of my mind to see that Nehemiah is here. I swear to god if that kid decides to fuck up my game YET AGAIN, I will lose my fucking mind.

Ok, matt the saggitarius seems really cool. His entire introduction was memes which I approve of. He may be a social threat down the road as he seems very likable.

So anyway the twist of our two person tribes is that we must vote out an entire star sign. This is supposed to be taken sort of as a "first impressions" vote.

The way I see it it would make the most sense to vote for a star sign pairing with a winner since they have already made it to the end in the series and got the votes to win. I think that narrows it to two people (I could be wrong as I am on my phone looking at stuff and it is unreliable.

Owen and Kait have won and Kaits win is less relevant in my eyes since she has gotten sixteenth on her following games. So it makes sense to me to target Owen's sign.

On the other side of this, should we or others choose to target players they perceive as annoying or a liability in the game I think my sign has a high likelihood of being first gone. Nehemiah does not have the best reputation and some might see it better to vote him out before he stirs the pot.

Ok so this twist got me big mad. Like I’m happy I don’t have to try to message many people, but only one other person...and this twist wtf. Renée: I think I’ve see Renée around before and like I feel she does well a lot...she might be the one who has won bb Pokémon but idk, if so, gotta keep an eye out. Chole: we stan a European queen like love her accent and she seems cool. Ian: idk who that is and...idk their intro is sports so who cares. Also side note, i was in Maynors first game too (different game than Stephen and Madison) and he won so he’s scary but I love him because I knew him from his start. Idk Taylor but we stan. There are 12 cast reveals so imma stop here because I’m so tired.

First of all, I have never done Tumblr Survivor until now and right of that bat, I'm confused as fuck. My partner, Kait, seems extremely nice and we were forced to be besties day 1. She seems to know more about this community than me so hopefully she can help. I noticed that Beastman (Matt B.) was in this game and Willow? I don't know if that is the Willow I played with previously. I think I also noticed Maynor and Chloe from the FB Survivor community and I am glad to be playing with them. I hope this first vote me and Kait can survive because going out day 2 would be a shame.

Pre challenge eliminations are dumb, that being said I honestly don't care if Taurus is eliminated because of it, literally nothing to be done to avoid it. Fucking do it. I know jack shit about Chloe, I don't care to at this point in time, if we aren't eliminated we'll be on opposite tribes, if we both last long enough to be on a tribe together, that's chill. Every game I've lost because I've played for other people, this go around I don't give a shit about nothing or anybody.

This sign partner twist is very nerve wracking. Because u cant talk with anyone but your sign partner, makes it hard to figure out what the others would vote for. I just hope my partner and I dont get voted out.

This twist was not the way I was expecting the game to start. Clearly the hosts are ready to send us right into it, but at this point I just really feel like me and Timmy are being lead to the slaughterhouse.

I was talking to Timmy about it, but neither of us know that many people in the game, which could be a good thing for us while we hope our names are kept out of their mouths. Of the few people I have interacted with on this cast, we have pretty mutually pleasant relationships so hopefully that will also keep us safe. I don't know, this is just really tough because there is not much we can do in terms of trying to save ourselves. I will most definitely be sweating all day long until these results are posted.

I am starting to like Timmy more and more. He seems like a nice guy, but sometimes can be a little bit hard to talk to just because he seems to be a man of very few words. No problem with that, just hard to read people that aren't super talkative and open. I have a feeling that we will be split from our teams to make tribes if we make it past this round, so hopefully the little seeds I have planted in Timmy and my's relationship will grow into a beautiful flower by the time we get to a swap or merge situation.

Other than that, there isn't much I can do but to cross my fingers and hope for the best. Hopefully this won't be the end of my journey in Kuwait, but at this point I have to expect the worst possible scenario...

It feels good to be back but I did assume there was gonna bemore newbies than veterans. Yet there isn’t so that’s interesting. The whole zodiac thing is cool in itself but it sucks that someone has to go home so fast best based off past impressions of others. I mean people do t like me. I have a reputation so this twist is not in my favor and Chips my Pisces partner does not necessarily help me jut there either. Chips is likeable but conniving. I mean we def could be the one to go. And it sucks

We ‘decided’ our votes are going on the Scorpios. Like we didn’t have a lot to go by. We brought it down to Libra and Scorpio then we random.org to decide their fate. I cant believe we did that but o well. I just want to survive this first vote.

This is a crazy twist but oh so much fun. I definitely do not feel safe, but that’s every round. I think we made a good choice.

Fun fact: my reasoning for wanting to eliminate Cancer is more than "fuck cancer" that's just the excuse I came up with to tell people as to why I "randomly" voted for Cancer when they inevitably aren't the ones eliminated.  It's purely my motivation to eliminate everyone I have have been in a game with before, starting with Madison.  If it happens, chill if it doesn't I'll have to find another way to go about getting her, Devon, and Trace eliminated in this game.

Willow is really chill and cool. I think we can work well together and stay libra strong. I'm personally wanting to try and get Pisces here because they have the potential to be social threats later on so might as well vote off threats while we have the chance.. however, I have a gut feeling they aren't actually going to be eliminated and may come back later so that is something to look out for.. if so, we need to claim we voted someone else incase they find out.

Willow and I had a very long conversation about college and stuff and I can really see myself working with her in this game. We have lots in common so as long as we trust each other we should be able to go far together. I have a feeling we are going to be split by ourselves after this so I probably won’t have willow by myside until a future tribe swap

I am SO happy that Nehemiah clearly has enough adversaries in this game to make himself an automatic target. Hopefully he will be sent home during this retrograde situation, but I have a feeling he will stay because he is very strong in challenges. I feel a little ridiculous for having such a strong vendetta for him this early on in the game, but I know that he is a number I cannot trust so it'd be ideal for him to head home earlier than later.

hello friends.  i told myself that i’m gonna force myself to write these .   So first couple days have gone past.  not too much has been going on.  24 person cast was kinda expected tbh with the season being battle of the signs and whatnot.  my partner SUCKS!!! he hasn’t talked all game until this morning so we’ll see how that goes moving forward.  having all the teams vote out one team was something else and unexpected but expected to cut down the size of the cast.  where the game goes from here, i have no idea and i’m excited.  i’m even more interested to see how the game shakes down after the pisces challenge.  cause that leaves 23 ppl and a whole lot of ppl left

Hello, So Aries got no votes and I feel blessed but also y’all stuck me with maynor, the drunkest person in this game, who’s chill but also I feel like he’ll fuck me over first chance he gets. But anyway I didn’t really want Pisces to go, mostly for chips because I think he’s the one that sent me a $10 google play gift card in 2016 for winning fan favorite once in a game he hosted and I STILL remember the movie I bought with that $$$ so I wanted to play with him so hopefully nehe goes so I can play with chips and get more google play gift cards hehe. Ok I need to go talk to maynor more even if it’s difficult bc I need allies ok bye.

So here I am!!! First confessional of the game! I am honestly shook that Kait and Owen are playing ahhhhh!!! Scary!!! But also my first impressions made me not like Chips so much so I’m glad he’s been voted “out”. My only hope is that he is the actual first boot of the season and that the other guy comes back! 🤞🏻

So it comes as not surprise to me that the Pisces get the majority of the votes. Even not knowing the details of Nehemiah and his relationship with others I am aware of the impression he gives. I was in the viewing lounge for International House of Survivor where people actively rooted against him as well as the duo's season of House of Shade where he was not taken seriously at the finale.

Truthfully it is kind of terrible to be targeted because I am on a tribe with someone who is not well liked by a chunk of the cast but I guess those are the punches you roll with. It would be similar in situation for anyone who had been put with a winner had the players not voted personally.

Instead of getting voted out we were given the chance to do a challenge. The challenge is counting as high as you can go and Nehemiah asked me to throw it for him. He said that he is not playing anything and that this is all he has. I told him that I didnt sign up for the season not to play at all.

I decided I am going to count to 1337 and then stop. If Nehemiah wants it more than me and he counts higher then he deserves to continue on. I want to play and I want to compete but I have had a busy day with my wife celebrating her birthday and my infant needing lots of attention.

I hope this is not my last confession but if it is it will be a fun experience getting first boot.

If I get eliminated from Survivor because of Tik Tok I’ll SCREAM for a hot minute then work it into a standup bit or something

Well it is day 3 in this game and I am still pretty bored. I am PRAYING that me and Timmy can pull out a top 3 win in the video challenge so that way I can have other people to talk to. It's not that Timmy is THAT boring, it's just hard to only speak with one person when the game has 22 others.

Normally I hate these kinds of challenges, but I actually think that I came up with a pretty good idea. Hopefully Timmy can supply and we will be able to pull this one out. Obviously I am happy to not be first boot, but sitting around and waiting for stuff to happen is my least favorite way to play these games. Wish us luck!

Renee is editing our video. I am very nervous cuz idk if the judges will like it. We dont have go be the best. All i care is for us to be in one of the 6 spots of saftey. I dont want to have either one of us in danger of leaving. Im crossing my fingers and i hope they like it enough. This 2 tribe  twist is so nerve wracking. 😧

Think I might just take a nap bc stevie isn’t giving me any ideas to work with and I rlly don’t have a single creative idea in me rn I’m actually so annoyed like can he please just come up with something I’ll do all the work I’ll edit and whatever if he can just make the CHOICE!

So the past round has definitely been eventful for the sole fact that I was already voted out of this game before it even started. Like it kinda fits though seeing how I am and the relationships I’ve made over the months and years I’ve played these games. There are definitely tons of people from different games and different reasons to which I screwed them over. Definitely left sour tastes in majority of their mouths and I didn’t even realize who majority of the cast was until I was voted out 4-2-1-1-1-1 cause we voted with our sun sign. Chips was cool and I personally wanted to rebond with the dude after Kilimanjaro and on top of that I just feel bad. The dude was voted out for being my partner. I sent that motherfucker home unintentionally.

I had no faith in myself that I was winning that challenge yet now here I am still in the game with a chance. Yet the game was hit with another massive wave in the form of a twist that honestly is clever. The tribes of 2 is staying that way which unfortunately for me means my tribe of 1 is also staying that way. Top 6 teams will be safe meanwhile the bottom 6 go to the war zone aka tribal council. Where one is voted out. Now in my perspective if I was to lose this challenge (which hehe all on a tribe by myself having to depend on comp skills puhlease) I  will be attending an 11 person tribal council with all tribes having 2 but me. So I would outright stand as an easy target but I’m not going to roll over and die. The best way to survive would definitely be to worm my way into the ins. I also definitely need to right the wrongs that I have committed to some of these people who already decided to not want to deal with me. I mean what’s the point of getting rid of someone who is definitely going to be in the war zone a lot cause he can’t win by himself BUT he would most definitely be a number for your game if you choose to use him. The game is gonna merge into official better tribes sooner or later and I want to be there when it happens and I know I’m a loyal person to have by my side. There are people in this game that I haven’t played with or met and this is good for the power of surprise to the type of player I am.

Ok woo, so trace and I voted in the majority for the first vote so that was amazing. I'm sad Chips left and not Nehe because that would've made the game a lot better. I'm just hoping with this challenge and nehe being alone that his score is lower since it'll probably lose some comedic value...or at least I hope. I hate this challenge with all my being though because music video type challenges are the thing that gives me the most anxiety in orgs. Going to tribal doesn't even give me as much anxiety tbh. I usually don't even submit this challenge but I can't let trace down because that would suck for both our games and right now I need to focus on his game as well. Trace has been so helpful with this challenge and I'm so thankful that I'm on this tribe with him since he came up with the song and is doing the editing (i just had to film 15 seconds of me not trying to look totally disgusting). But all in all I think this will be a good video and I'm excited to see the results.

So my partner Devon and I are safe this week. For now, this is ideal as I need my first impression to be lackluster but still.. safe. I want people to see me as a loyal but foolish pawn who could be useful in competitions (not deadweight) but no comp threat. The downside is the lack of socialization. I can still only interact with Devon and am isolated from people I need to interact with, such as Madison or Owen or literally all the people I have absolutely no knowledge on. I fear pre-mades / pre-existing relationships. 4 votes on Virgo seemed unlikely but Chips leaving was good imo as there seemed to be more than 1 person from their cast in this game if I correctly recall from the intros. I will try to DM Devon more than I have as I need us to have somewhat of a bond or understanding even if it's only till ponderosa as I know most duos will have similar kinds of deals/bonds and to not have one is a disservice at this point although having him leave could get rid of the potential deadweight in upcoming challenges. Regardless, a healthy social bond never hurt me. I am excited for this twist to end whenever it does because it really is slowing down my momentum and makes me feel like I'm behind (I said this before I was isolated with immunity too). Final thoughts: not bad for a dead bitch!

Wofhei Stephen ❤️ Hopefully he wants to work with me. The last time we played I did blindside him, very hard. The two ppl i want to strengthen my bonds with is Stephen and Madison. Ive meet Madison before so this is gunna be exciting to get to know her more. And hopefully wants to work together in this game. This twist is so awful, so much strategy and factors are removed by not actually being in tribes. Its a mess, and a 12 person tribal? awful. But hey I have a planning day tomorrow so I dont teach, get to spend the day getting some form of alliance going, hopefully that can protect me cause..... if this twist continues ill be going to tribal a lot

Hello, Honestly fuck this twist!!! Making me play the first night small talk game AND the first tribal panic game in 1 day this is NOT fair. It’s been nixe talking and getting to know the other people but like we have a tribal and vote someone off. So kinda nervous havent heard anything about that. In other words, Nehe being the one with the top score this challenge..... What the fuck? I seriously need him to go like NOW. Its probably weird of me to be all obsessive about him, but like the things that this kid can do. Like people should fucking learn that you never can trust him and since he's all alone- the moment he goes to tribal, Im gunning for his ass.

I have talked to Cullan, Willow, Ian. (New people to me). Ive talked to Stephen, Matt B, and Madison (who i know). I havent talked to Cloe, Brandon, Taylor, and Jacob. I really like Ian but idk how he feels about his partner Cloe. Since Cloe is mine and Renee’s target.

At some point the ball has to start rolling, if it already has I'm fucked and didn't get out ahead of it fast enough. I've played real nice and friendly because first and foremost you need numbers and have to maintain those numbers before you can get into a position to start trimming the fat. I need this vote to go one really anyone but me and Chloe, I still need her, for now. Chloe needs to be my get out of jail free card. As of writing this, Brandon seems like the most likely target to pin the vote on. He hasn't talked to me yet and I'm under the impression he hasn't talked to others either.

We roughly have 2 hrs before tribal and None of these FOOLS are talking about the vote. :p imma die but i think atleast it might end up being between Cloe and BDC. I really like Ian and Matt B but the two targets are their partners so i hope me voting BDC or Cloe wont affect them potentially working with me.

It looks like BDC may be going which is awesome because he really hasn’t talked to me (or anyone else). I really hope people aren’t lying to me when they say they are good with voting BDC tonight. This is giving me facebook game flashbacks where there wasn’t much game talk and I was blindsided. That once tribal has given me soo much anxiety and makes me very paranoid this first tribal. I just hope me and Renne dont get any votes tonight.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines Unofficial Patch 10.3 released, improves and tweaks numerous things

Modder ‘Wesp5’ has released a new version of the Unofficial Patch for Troika’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. In case you weren’t aware of, this is a cumulative patch containing all the previous releases and works with retail and downloadable versions of any kind as the Troika Games official patch 1.2 is included.

This Unofficial Patch runs out of a subfolder so other mods can be run in parallel but applying it to an international version will revert all localizations back to English. To install the patch choose the Bloodlines directory as destination, select wanted features, install and then start the game from the new desktop or start menu links. To uninstall it, just remove the patch links and patch directory.

Version 10.3 improves Sabbat ending and choice dialogues, restores beachhouse PC difficulty and locked Tung’s tank in basic, fixes map holes outside Ocean House and lowered ghost music there, fixes warrens door, restores whispers and removes rats for basic, and more.

Fall 2016 Classes

I fly back to Michigan in ten days.

I’m excited about next semester, but first, here is the promised overview of last semester’s classes. It wasn’t a super stressful semester, so that was awesome. I definitely learned a ton and brought my GPA up. Both good things.

Intro to Journalism - Mrs. Servold This was fairly easy, but also a really fun class. I know I’ve improved a lot as a writer this semester, due to this class, Political Journalism, and writing for the Collegian.

This class consisted largely of learning the basics of journalism, as one would expect, and reviewing grammar and style. I had to write a lot of articles but I was able to submit pieces from the Collegian or from my marketing job for the most part.

Mrs. Servold went on maternity leave toward the beginning of November. After that, we spent a week watching All the President’s Men, which is about the investigation of the Watergate scandal. Then Mr. Bertram from the radio station talked to us about the basics of radio, and Mr. Miller took over for the last two weeks or so. Because we’d covered everything that’s normally covered in the course before Mrs. Servold left, we didn’t have much to do by the end. We took a midterm before she left that ended up serving as a final, which meant I only had three finals this semester. And Mr. Miller was out of town for some of the last week of classes, so Intro to Journalism sort of evaporated by the end there. (Mr. Miller also cancelled some Political Journalism classes, which meant my “hell week” was super low key and not really hellish. But I had two huge papers due before Thanksgiving, so don’t worry, I still got a hell week.)

Colonial America - Dr. Raney After taking Civil War with Dr. Raney, I knew what to expect with this class, which was essentially lectures filled with rapid-fire information, way more reading assigned than I would have time for, and a big paper as the only writing assignment. The material may not have been as interesting overall as Civil War, but I did learn a lot of interesting information about a time period I didn’t know much about before. I most enjoyed the religious discussions, especially the controversies, and writing my paper on the Salem witch trials.

History of the U.S. Presidency - Dr. Folsom This was my favorite class, probably my favorite I’ve ever taken, and having Dr. Folsom was such a gift. I had known about Dr. Folsom and his wife Anita from research I did on FDR and the Great Depression in high school, so I knew I had to take him at some point before I graduated. I signed up for this course late last summer after learning a different class I had registered for had switched professors. I’m so glad I did, especially because I later learned that this would be Dr. Folsom’s last semester at Hillsdale.

The course was an amazing overview of American history and a good glimpse into each president, some of whom I certainly got to know better than others. I think I’ve learned more in this class than any other, and I loved it.

The lectures on presidents were wonderful, but part of what made this class so unique and inspiring was Dr. Folsom’s clear passion for Hillsdale. Where he could, and sometimes just for fun, he inserted bits of Hillsdale history that really added a lot to the class and made me even more proud of my school. There was one day when, about 20 minutes before class was over, he took us out to an amphitheater and talked about some of Hillsdale’s most inspiring figures, all the while encouraging us to do the same good they had.

I’m definitely going to miss Dr. Folsom. Even having known him for one semester, I feel like Hillsdale will be a different place without him. I’m very grateful for his love for the school.

Political Journalism - Mr. Miller I knew as soon as I saw this in the course catalog that I had to take this class because I really liked political journalism and now I like it more. This class also consisted of a lot of writing, of course, and reading. We read Bob Novak’s autobiography, many articles, including an essay by Orwell, and the novel Primary Colors. It was a good time. I think my favorite assignments were our Eric Leutheuser profile that I mentioned before and a couple of op-eds (which I learned stands for “opposite editorial” since they tend to be printed opposite the editorial page, and not for “opinion editorial” like you’d think).

Intro to Journalism II - Mrs. Servold

as well as more guitar lessons, voice lessons, more writing for the Collegian, and possibly a journalism seminar.
