#it brings questions!!! is that the first time ventus was thinking about a TOMORROW and not just 'the next day'?
cashewally-sarcastic · 4 months
Note
Ventus, who has spent days on the streets of Old Mondstadt listening to the voices of the people. Who has silently watched as parents take care of their young. Watch kids escort their aunts to the stores. The wind around him is so cold
He plays his lyre. Its the only thing he has on him. He would rather die than say where he acquired it, and at the end of the day its his lyre.
Ventus closes his eyes. For the breifedt moment he couldn't hear the deafening gales around him. He is in the eye of the hurricane. What song is he even playing? He switched from one track to the other minutes ago and was now improvising a solo.
The families are still talking to each other.
At the end of the day, he is just background music
.
Then one day a creature bumps into him. Radiating the same warmth as a prayer and eyes akin to his god's. Was it a spy? Was it a child? Was it a puppet?
Wearily, he asks for a name. Smiling as he tells the sprite how he wishes to make ballads of the little thing. It flutters around him, occassionally stumbling in mid air like its drunk. It gives out a little squeak as it gestures to itself.
Ventus tries to mimic that chime, but his mouth can't hit the same notes. The sprite speaks more and more, yet Vrntus can't understand a thing. He just smiles and nods as he subconsciously plays his lyre.
Before he knows it, he can feel the chill of night. Or at least what he thinks it night. The elders of the city tell what night is supposed to be, but the winds had carried away those voices a long time ago.
Tales of an object called the moon. How it would shift as the weeks go by. How it could disappear and be reborn once anew- surrounded by her starry sisters.
Night.
He hated it.
He hates how cold it is. How dark it is. How every candle and life is snuffed by the wind.
Yet the creature is still hear, making a nest on his lap.
Its warm.
Letting go of his lyre for just a breif moment, he runs his fingers down the cloak of the sprite. Soft yet smooth. Was this what a bird felt like?
Tomorrow would be another day. Tomorrow he could try to pronounce his ... freind's name better. Tomorrow he could do so much.
Despite the being being on his lap, he felt a warmth in his chest. Something he has never felt before. Something that made him think of protecting this creature.
Ventus rests his eyes as he carries his first friend, unware he would do this everynight til the day he died
*cheers and applause amid tears and sobs*

I Love You Chapter 8
Warnings: More angst
Tumblr media
You and Sora were in Radiant Garden at a local park and making flower crowns. He saw your sad face and asked if you wanted to go to the swings. You agreed and went to the swings. Sora began to push you on the swings. Normally, you would be giggling. But you weren’t. Sora stopped the swing and came around to face you.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“I-I can’t come back home daddy. My body can barely handle the light...if I go back home. I might have to leave you.” You said frowning.
“We’ll find a way to bring you back to the light. Don’t worry.” Sora said smiling.
“What if the Organization gets their way? We’ll never see each other again.” You cried.
“I won’t let that happen. I promise that I’ll bring you home and we’ll have all your favorite foods. For breakfast, lunch and dinner.” He then pokes the reader’s nose and you giggled.
Sora woke up to a bang on the door.
“Here’s your food, weakling.” Yuki said.
“I’m not weak.” Sora sneered.
“Sure you’re not.” Sora took the food and went back to his bed.
~~~~
You couldn’t sleep. You didn’t know why. Maybe it was nerves for the coronation. Maybe it was because you wanted to see your friend again. You got out of bed and went to your huge closet to grab some extra blankets and pillows for Sora and his friends. You snuck out of your room, being careful to not wake anyone up. You made it to the dungeons and gave Sora and his friends the pillows and blankets.
“Thanks, Cupcake.” Sora smiled.
“Why do you keep calling me that?” you asked.
“Because you’re sweet like a cupcake.” He wasn’t lying. You were always sweet to people.
“I should go back to bed before I get into trouble.” you said.
“That’s probably a good idea.” You said goodnight to everyone and headed back to bed.
~~~~
Back at Master Yen Sid’s, Kairi, Riku, Donald, Goofy, Mickey, and the Wayfinder trio were trying to find a way to save you, Sora, and the Sea Salt Ice Cream Trio.
“How are going to save them?” Ventus asked.
“I have no idea. But we need to think of something quick.” Terra said. They spent the next hour and a half hatching up a plan. They soon came up with the perfect plan and went to go save you, Sora, and the Sea Salt Ice Cream Trio.
~~~~
It was morning. You got dressed and headed down to have breakfast. After breakfast, you were able to smuggle some to the dungeon to feed Sora and the others. Suddenly Yuki came in and Sora hid you in the corner. So you wouldn’t be seen. You saw Yuki mistreat your friend. Saying random things about you. You didn’t understand what was going on.
“After tomorrow night (Y/n) will be ours forever. There is nothing you can do. You failed her.” He said. You got mad and said.
“Leave him alone! Otherwise I’ll tell my daddy and you’ll be in trouble.” You said jumping in front of your friend.
“(Y/n). You shouldn’t be here. These people are dangerous. People only to pretend to be your friend. Just so they can take advantage of you.” Yuki said frowning.
“Yeah...” You said frowning.
“(Y/n) We’ll never do that to you.” Sora said.
“(Y/N). Don’t listen to him. He’s lying. Now let’s get you back to your special room. Your daddy has surprises for you. Let’s go see them.” Yuki said. You didn’t move.
“What are you waiting for?” He asked. In the deepest part of your memory. There was those people in the gardens. They watched you color with chalk. You smiled and said.
“Okay but can we go to Radiant Gardens first? I want to pick flowers for daddy!” You said grabbing his hand and skipping down the halls.
“(Y/N)! Don’t go with him!” Sora yelled.
~~~~
At Radiant Garden, you saw Riku and Kairi. You told Yuki that you would be right back. You took off running to tell them about your trapped friends. Luckily Yuki didn’t see you talking to them.
“Is Sora okay?” Kairi asked.
“I think so. I’ve been taking care of him and the others without anyone noticing. Yuki thinks that I’m getting flowers and I need to make it look like you’re helping me.”
“Okay. While we’re doing that, Riku and I will tell you our plan.” You, Riku, and Kairi went to go pick flowers while discussing the plan to save Sora and the others. Yuki found you and told you that it was time to go.
“Okay.” you said.
“Thank you, Kairi.” you whispered to her. You took the flowers and Ran up to Yuki to go back to the castle.
~~~~
Back at the castle, you gave the flowers to Xemnas, which he thanked you for, and went back to your room. The next day, everyone was preparing for your coronation. You questioned about the coronation. But no matter what questions you have. No one told you. Xemnas gave the reader a new gold dress for tomorrow. You wanted to see your friends. You began asking about them.
“Daddy. Are the people in the dungeon dangerous?” you asked.
“Yes. And they want to hurt you. That’s why they’re down there.” he replied. You didn’t believe him.
“I want to go see them.” you said.
“No.”
“But daddy I ju-”
“I said no, (Y/N). Now go to your room.”
“But I’m always in my room. I want to do something with you.”
“Now, (Y/N).” You went to room and sat on your bed. You started to feel tears forming. You tried your best to fight them, but they were too strong. While you were crying, Xemnas went to your special room and locked the secret passageway to make sure you wouldn’t visit them again. But you were very clever. You would find a way. You just have to look very hard.
Daybreak Academy: Chapter 54
The Best-Worst Present
Summary: In which Anora gives Ephemer a gift from the heart. Word Count: 1,760 First | Previous | Next ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆
“Today's Ephemer's birthday?”
Skuld gave Anora a little snort in response. “Would I be making a cake just for him otherwise?” she teasingly mused. “This is the only time when I'm able to bake and he's not around to steal a taste.”
Anora cast Skuld a wary side glance but did nothing to rebut. Skuld was using the small kitchenette in Ava and Invi's cabin to bake Ephemer a small cake. The cake itself wasn't going to be that impressive; big enough for only three or four slices with the bare minimum of icing you could give.
It did leave the question on where they were going to give it to him. Anora could only assume it was in the cabin the boys were using. Maybe they would give it to him while they were all out on the beach? They probably would not have done it in Ava and Invi's cabin. After Anora's kiss with Strelitzia, someone had decided that it would have been too uncomfortable for the two girls to be in the same cabin. Anora ended up bunked with the female headmasters as a result. It wasn't bad, they had only a few days left of vacation anyway, and it gave Anora an excuse to not leave the cabin as often. It felt too mortifying to actually face Ephemer or Strelitzia after that one confusing afternoon.
“He could still visit.” the girl pointed out- in doing so, she pointed out to herself that nothing was stopping Ephemer from visiting her. It's not like the cabins were really locked or anything.
“Could, but he's not.” Skuld informed her in a matter-of-fact tone. Under her breath, Skuld then grumbled, “That coward.”
Anora slightly shifted in place. She was only faintly aware of what Skuld knew about the kiss between her and Strelitzia. Not that Anora told Skuld much about it, but she was almost certain that Ephemer would have. Of course, the girl was also sure that pretty much all of them knew about the kiss by now. The only one she could see that wouldn't reasonably know would be Ventus.
“What about presents?” Anora inquired before nervously nibbling on her lower lip. Skuld immediately shook her head.
“We're heading back tomorrow, and everything's pretty much packed up, so any presents we did have for him are still at school. A small cake is the least we could do; something we can all enjoy, clean up, and forget about until we get back. Ava usually takes Ephemer out to the movies or something anyway.”
“Just them?”
Skuld laughed. “She's kinda Ephemer's mom so, yes. They've always done it. Ephemer used to take Ava out for her birthday too, but I think he realized real quick that he was still a kid; didn't know how to drive, didn't have a job to buy something big, and so on and so forth. He and Ava kinda agree what they're doing ahead of time.”
Anora gave a small nod of understanding. That would explain the conversation Ava had with Invi this morning- something about going to the zoo and how far away the closest one was. And also something about bringing a pet turtle along?
“Can you hand me the cake pan?” Skuld told Anora, almost surprising the younger out of her thoughts. “Time to stick this baby in the oven and hope for the best.”
A firm nod from Anora, and the girl went to get the cake pan Skuld had brought along for just such an occasion. All the while, her mind was reeling in other thoughts.
She knew she had to get him something. But what exactly was a bit of a mystery; buying him a gift now would have felt cheap, and getting him a card also seemed like an even lazier cop out. Ephemer had been incredibly nice to her since she started attending Daybreak. He was also being ridiculously nice now, even when seeing his reaction to the kiss had made her wonder if he was holding something back. He promised that he wouldn't forget her birthday, so at the very least she shouldn't forget his.
If she had known beforehand, she probably would have composed a short skating routine for him. Nothing too complicated, just something to show she cared. But that required at least three things she didn't have; time, space, and her roller skates. What else could she give him?
. . .
Anora lingered around Skuld for most of the day. It looked rather pathetic is all respects; Skuld was a shield from having to look anyone directly in the eye. If Skuld knew this, she didn't let it easily show. Or maybe she was humoring Anora. It's not like everyone wanted their first kiss to be known to the entire world. Either way, she was grateful that Skuld didn't tell her to buzz off after the first hour of awkwardly lingering behind her. Small miracles.
“I just got a text from Ava.” Skuld informed Anora after some time. “She's got Ephemer hostage at the plaza. There's no one around so it'll be the perfect time to have a small party for him. Could you grab the plastic forks and paper plates? I'll get the cake.”
Anora gave her friend a quick nod before scurrying to do what she was told. When the girls made sure they had everything, they went on their way to the plaza. Ava and Ephemer were there, of course, along with Ira and Gula. Ava had been the one to lead them all into song. Everyone got a rather small slice of cake and very quickly thanked Skuld for being a pure magician in the kitchen. For the next few hours, there was a lot of reminiscing on Ephemer's past; how he had met Ava and Skuld, that one year he apparently led an angry pack of First Year students into a pie war, and even a mention of some scar he got when someone had egged him into bungee jumping off the gym building.
He didn't like to talk about that last one much- too embarrassing, he said.
When everyone started to leave for their cabins for the night, Anora took Ephemer by the hand and pulled him aside. With it being the first time they've truly come in contact since Strelitzia's kiss, there was a small spike of shock that coursed through them.
“What's wrong?” the boy asked. “Is this about…?”
Anora quickly shook her head. “Meet me at the beach in an hour.” she told him before quickly letting go of his hand and leaving for the cabins. Ephemer stood there for a moment- a part of him felt wary, but the other part of him was excited. What was Anora planning?
. . .
For the second time this summer, Ephemer approached Anora on the beach. His dream from weeks before came back with a stunning clarity that he shivered. He put on a smile once he was close enough to her; this was in no way a good time to admitting he had romantic dreams about someone who only saw him as a friend.
“So,” he mused, “Is this the part where you murder me in a bloody wrath?”
Anora gave him a funny look before vehemently shaking her head.
“I wanted to give you my present. Alone.”
This… was not something he expected. It must have been reflected on his face, because it definitely shown through in his voice. “Alone?” he repeated. “Why?”
Now bashful, Anora took a step back so she could offer her hand out to him. “Can I have this dance?”
Ephemer physically recoiled at her- almost stumbling backward in surprise. For a split second he actually considered telling her no. But, maybe, in a way, he could see what she was trying to do. And honestly? He was impressed. Flattered, even.
A wide grin appeared on his face before telling her, “How could I say no to a face like that?”
Anora immediately let out a sigh of relief, and was then taken by surprise when Ephemer took her in his arms. A nervous laugh escaped both of their lips as they started to slow dance. It started off the same as it had at the formal, but in time they got a little closer and with it came much smaller movements.
Anora rested her head on Ephemer's shoulder when the two had drifted so close that they were chest to chest. She didn't close her eyes, but she did seem to be in a daze of sorts as her hand tightened around Ephemer's. A small sigh escaped Ephemer's lips as he moved his head a bit to catch a whiff of her hair. The roots were gritty from the sand that wouldn't wash out of her hair, along with the faint presence of a vanilla scented shampoo. Ephemer could not hold back the smile he had as he held her a bit closer.
“This was a nice present.” he said to her- his voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you Anora.”
He didn't get a direct response. Instead, Anora snuggled a bit closer to his body and buried her face in his chest. He couldn't tell how hard she was blushing- although he was pretty certain she was. He was blushing too, after all.
After what seemed to be years, Anora finally picked her head back up and smiled at Ephemer. He looked back at her to return the gesture. And, like the last time they locked gazes, the two started to unconsciously drift closer to each other. They were just a breath away before Ephemer took a step backward to avoid the very thing they both wanted.
“We should head back.” he told her. “We've got to leave pretty early tomorrow, after all.”
Anora looked up at him- her eyes giving away her disappointment at the moment that didn't occur. But she nodded her head in agreement otherwise, stepping away from him to end their dance then and there.
“I mean it, you know.” the boy then tried to say. “That was a nice present. Always been more of a 'gifts from the heart' kinda guy, and, huh… thank you. Do you want me to walk you back to the cabins or…?”
Anora shook her head. “Happy birthday Ephemer.” she said to him in a small voice.
Before he could even stop himself, Ephemer gave her a gentle smile before saying, “It's always a happy day when you're around. Never leave Anora, I love you.”
It was hard, for both of them, trying to piece their lives back together, both /together/, and apart.
Radiant Garden could be more destroyed. It had been. At a point. It had been utterly gone at a point. Transformed by their own greed for knowledge.
But his World was at least back in some form of capacity after the destruction of Xehanort. And Vexen had slipped back into being Even with ease. The two were really the same side of a coin. Vexen had simply not had to care about morals when it came to science.
His research could happen without any pesky interruptions from his own mind.
But he was whole, once more, and Ansem was back, and he was thankful for the man who was a critical part of his heart and family, but it made being in his lab strange.
He had committed his life so deeply to the clone research. Because he could. Because he was told to. He could never have imagined what it’s true purpose would be. But he had never put much weight into the thought of time travel until then either. Until his services were needed and he had no idea what degree of agent he had been at the end.
To think they would truly believe that he would betray Ienzo like that. How idiotic could they be.
But he had to leave with Saix without telling him, and it had been a painful but easy fact. He was needed on that side. That side had his research. He wanted Vexen’s journals more than anything else. And then he had been instructed to make empty vessels, like Xion, but more perfect, and it had been easy.
So, so easy.
So easy because his loyalty was not to Xemnas but Ienzo. It had always been to the child gifted to him by Ansem all those years ago.
So easy to ask Demyx, because his research had given him an out to the battle, to bring something to Ienzo. Because no one would expect that he would speak to Demyx. Vexen had always made it very liberally known his feelings on the other members.
His feelings that were not real and merely built on fragments of memories. Marluxia had always made them feel so real.
Marluxia who was there, again, with Larxene, of course, and that was a part of the puzzle that Vexen could not understand. How had Marluxia fallen back to Xehanort? Why was he not his Somebody once more? That was all the man had wanted at Oblivion. To find a way back.
Even, Vexen, felt beyond foolish to learn the way back was death. And not even death via Keyblade. His body would always have scars from Axel. As if he needed reason to hate his body more.
He couldn’t speak to Marluxia. Not then. Not when everyone was planning something. Because it could go either way.
It had almost gone bad. Very wrong.
Vexen had not cared, or perhaps he had cared too much.
Science or family. He hated himself for constantly making that a decision in his life.
But they had won in the end. Won were it mattered. Even if Sora was missing. Dead but not dead. And his research had turned to focus on that.
Because Ienzo and Ansem willed that.
They owed the children that much.
So he settled into his new life. Because his life was science and his family.
But Lauriam.
Lauriam was distinctively not Marluxia.
That had been clearest in the way he spoke to Ansem when he first appeared on Radiant Garden. Elrena close to his side. Elrena who was softer as well.
Everything made so much sense about the two of them when he learned of Strelitzia.
Lauriam had spoken plainly to Ansem. Because Ansem was a kind king and deserved as much. Because Ansem knew betrayal intimately.
Ansem insisted that Lauriam and Elrena stay with them. The castle had plenty of space and he had the notion that he wanted to be close to some mildly familiar faces.
Lauriam had hesitated and Elrena had bristled. They had always been a duo. But eventually Lauriam had agreed. To find their bearings. To try and understand the time and place.
Ansem had merely told them to take as much time as they needed.
It was a week into their stay that Lauriam had even come near the labs. Even could not get out of Lauriam /where/ he had woken up. His response to any question that was a bit too deep was an immediate shut down.
Once it had been his Keyblade. And that had made a few more pieces fit into place.
“Allow me to speak freely?”
Even startled at the voice.
Ienzo had left his side a few minutes ago and Even had fallen right back into his research. Memories held the key to everything. Memories controlled everything. It was work that made his heart ache with thoughts of Oblivion. The Riku Replica should have been a perfect idea. But it had wanted to be too real. Ienzo had hesitated for some time before admitting to him how he had died.
“Lauriam,” Even turned slowly, feeling suddenly caged, “Go ahead.”
“I had wanted to talk to you about this before, but it seemed foolish to speak of death when it would be coming again soon.” Lauriam started as he walked across the room.
“How morbid of you.”
“I have always been on the side of Sora, after all.” Lauriam smirked, but it fell quickly. “Do you know what became of the Riku Replica?”
“He died in battle, I presume. He was not a large primary focus of mine. You must realize.” Even responded with a wave of his hand. “A failed means to an end.”
“How heartless of you.” Lauriam laughed. “Vexen was so proud of him. Honestly, it was cute.”
“You thought it was /cute/ that I made a replica out of spite?”
“Marluxia found everything about Vexen cute.” Lauriam shrugged. “He created a whole interior being to try and prove that Sora was the wrong choice. Even now you do not get it. Why it had to be Sora. Always Sora.”
“I doubt I ever will. But I’ve always been more on the side of dark, Mr. Champion of Light.”
“You’re either getting guardians or princes mixed up, which I am neither.” Lauriam shook his head a little. “Or are you making fun of me?”
“There’s princes of light?” Even squinted at him.
“There’s princesses of heart. Which are hearts that lack dark, so essentially they are light.” Lauriam sighed. “Did we ever properly apologize to all the people the Organization kidnapped?”
“No, too busy dying.” Even smirked at him. “But there are /princes/?”
“Well, there’s Ventus. More a joke, then anything.”
 “How is that boy?”
“Odd, but I am happy for him.” Lauriam placed a hand over his heart. “I am very thankful to Terra and Aqua.”
“Odd?”
“He is still a boy. I was only a few years older than him. I... worry it makes him uncomfortable.”
“That’s understandable.” Even gave him a careful smile. “What did you actually want to talk about?”
“I wanted to apologize. For before.” Lauriam swallowed. “I- I did not expect Axel to actually go through with it. To go that far to- to win my /favor/.” He scuffed a little and played with his hands. “I do not expect you to ever forgive me, but I needed you to know that I did regret it.”
“Do you have scars from your death?” Even questioned. “I believe you, but only on the basis that you killed me while I was still useful to you.”
“You have burn scars?” Lauriam’s voice hitched a little. Wounded. “Vexen needed to only stay out of the way. He allowed a- a /pissing contest/ to destroy him.”
“Yes, and you are not being pleasant enough to see them.” Even scuffed. “Well maybe if Marluxia had gotten off his high horse it wouldn’t have been such a problem.”
“We both know you would love if I bent you over your desk right this second.” Lauriam laughed. “Xemnas gave him a /castle/.”
“Shut up.” Even snapped. “That castle should have been Vexen’s.”
“What a joke.” Lauriam stepped closer to him then. “Even now you don’t get it. Would Namine have listened?”
“What?” Even stepped back into the desk. The feeling familiar against his lower back. Familiar ground.
“What was the purpose of Castle Oblivion? What would you have done with Sora? That castle was not supposed to have casualties. Larxene and Marluxia were meant to handle him. Nothing else. To lead him through his memories so Namine could do her job. Why was Vexen stationed there? Why were Lexaeus and Zexion?”
“Are you accusing Castle Oblivion of having been a trap?” Even stared down at him. He grasped the desk behind him so he did not grab Lauriam.
“Namine was making Sora loyal to her, was he not? How were we meant to control him? It seems so obvious now.”
“You’re terrible at apologies, you know that?” Even sighed. “You can’t change the past. ...Probably.”
Lauriam laughed a little. “Probably.” Lauriam sighed and slowly placed his hands over Even’s. “My point is. Nothing about Castle Oblivion went correctly. I regret all of it. I do not expect forgiveness. I am aware I do not deserve you after what I did. But I would like a chance.”
“Are you... are you asking me out?” Even stared at him in shock.
“I think I am. If that is okay.”
“Give me time to think. My mind and body are- /competing/.”
“I am being a touch unfair.” Lauriam slipped his hands away and stepped back. “Take as much time as you need.”
“You are serious?”
“Marluxia’s words were never lies. But Vexen was a liability and there was a war.”
“Come back tomorrow.” Even gave a small nod. “Do you- do you still-” he swallowed and finally reached for Lauriam “Do you still feel that way?”
“I am not Marluxia.” Lauriam responded. “What they felt is theirs. We cannot build a solid foundation on it.”
“I understand.” Even placed a hand on his cheek. “A fresh start.”
“That is all I ask for.” Lauriam leaned into his touch. “Remember to eat dinner, Even. And get some rest.”
“Yes, yes.” Even stepped closer. “Tell me something.”
“Anything.”
“You really mean that, don’t you?”
“Do I have reason to lie or keep secrets from you?” Lauriam closed his eyes.
“I- I suppose not.” Even held his ground. “Back then, it was love at first sight, is that still-”
“Even.” Lauriam cut him off with a kind smile. “Think about my offer and give me your answer tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Even withdrew his hand slowly. He had nearly kissed him. It had been so easy to fall into the motions of his body. The control of it all.
Lauriam caught his hand. “I’ll make you breakfast.”
“That would be nice.” Even gave him a small nod. A promise for tomorrow. Something to look forward to and think on.
It wasn’t really a question of yes or no.
It was a question of what they did after the yes.
Axel (Kingdom Hearts) | Headcanons
• Axel's the one who remembers literally everything
• Everyone asks him if they forgot something. He's basically their Google Home.
"Hey, Axel? Do I have any homework today?"
"You have an essay due tomorrow, Roxas."
"Oh, right. Thanks, Axel!"
"Don't mention it."
• Sora is his most frequent asker (and even then he forgets).
• Axel probably studies just a little bit the night before a test and somehow passes with an above average grade.
• No one thinks that's fair, but hey, that's life I guess.
• All the smart kids are jealous.
• Honestly, if he actually put the effort in, he'd be the top student.
• He thinks he doesn't need to waste a lot of time on academia, which angers a lot of people (ahem, Saix).
• But, he's happy to help anyone with studying.
• If he offers to help you, don't decline. Trust me.
• Get his help, and you're guaranteed to pass any exam you have (and have a pretty fun time as well).
• The only thing he really puts effort into is getting to the cafeteria first.
• You have a classroom near the cafeteria? Doesn't matter. Axel's already there, casually eating a cheeseburger.
"Took ya long enough."
• While he waits for everyone to flood in to the cafeteria, he makes small talk with the cafeteria ladies. This resulted in him becoming pretty close to them.
"Hey, Jan. How's the baby doing?"
"Oh, she's going great. She started walking by herself the other day!"
"Wow, really? That's great!"
• Everyone has tried to get to the cafeteria before him. So far, no one has succeeded.
• Demyx still hasn't given up, though.
• Nobody knows how he gets to the cafeteria so quickly. Not even Saix (but it's not like he cares).
• The others have their own theories about the topic, however.
• Sora thinks Axel is secretly Sonic the Hedgehog (but in red, so no one gets suspicious).
"C'mon, guys. Have you seen that hair?"
• Roxas thinks he's an android sent by Cyberlife. He even tried to look for a glowing blue circle on the side of his head once. He didn't find one, though.
"You can stop messing around with my hair now."
"Maybe he's a deviant?"
• Riku just says Axel's a ninja and leaves it at that.
• There is always at least one person talking about it every lunch.
• Axel just chuckles at the ridiculous suggestions. They always beg him to tell them.
• He only winks, saying the same thing every time.
"A magician never reveals his secrets."
Everyone groans and rolls their eyes.
• Sometimes his friends wonder if he's even human (which supports Roxas's android theory).
• Unfortunately, none of the theories are correct. The reason why Axel gets to the cafeteria so quickly is because he knows all the shortcuts around the school.
• Boring, I know. But pretty damn useful if you wanna get somewhere quickly.
• He would tell his friends, but their conspiracy theory sessions are too entertaining for him to do so.
• Whenever Axel's feeling down, seeing Roxas and Sora arguing over whether he's an android or a hedgehog makes his day.
• Axel's pretty popular with the student body. This is because he's a naturally social person. Even the more closed off people respect him.
• He has quite a few admirers. This is the reason why he dreads Valentine's Day. Especially when he has to open his locker.
• A tsunami of love letters whack him in the face when he opens it. He now knows to bring an extra bag for them every Valentine's Day.
• Axel's flattered by all the attention, really. But he hates it when a random first-year comes up to him with a heartfelt confession while he's eating his lunch.
• Not because it's annoying, but because he feels so horrible every time he has to reject them, which makes him too sad to eat his food.
• That's why Valentine's Day is now the one day where he isn't at the cafeteria. Did I mention he also knows of multiple hiding spots in the school?
• Which only intensifies the amount of theories passed around in his friend group.
• Axel does enjoy reading the letters when he gets home, though. It gives him quite the ego boost. But whenever he gets a super creepy letter, he throws it in the trash and pretends he never read it.
• Axel forgot to throw out a letter once while he had Demyx over.
•He went to the bathroom, leaving Demyx alone in the living room.
•The letter la on the coffee table, begging to be read. And Demyx gave in.
• He picked up the letter, wanting to take a little peek. Demyx wanted to see what other girls thought about his friend.
• Let's just say the letter included a lot of....inappropriate words and sayings. It scarred the poor boy for months.
• When Axel got back from the bathroom, he found Demyx with a cherry red face and on the verge of fainting.
"Holy crap, Demyx. Are you alright?"
• It looked like Demyx's soul was leaving his body.
• Axel profusely apologised for scarring his friend, promising to buy him sea-salt ice-cream later.
• Questionable letters aside, the abundance of letters also come with lots of chocolates, which he lets his friends eat.
• It's become a tradition for everyone to come to Axel's house in order to eat all of the chocolate. There's always at least one person who comes to school the next day with a stomach ache.
• On one occasion, Xion ate homemade chocolates from one admirer, which resulted in very bad food poisoning. She didn't come to school for a week after that. Xion is now a lot more cautious when she attends one of Axel's chocolate tasting sessions.
• Axel is an absolute tank in Dodgeball (and a lot other sports, actually). If he aims a ball in your direction, run for your life. Don't even think about trying to catch it.
• Choosing teams in P.E is basically just each team captain arguing over who gets first pick, because everyone wants Axel on their team.
• Once a team captain chooses Axel, the other scrambles to pick other good players in order to stand a chance.
• Riku and Sora are pretty good contenders. They work really well together. They're the perfect dynamic duo. Axel knows to try and separate them. They're a lot easier targets when they're apart.
• Vanitas gives quite a challenge, too. If you can get him to play. On the rare occasion when he actually puts effort in, he can be pretty aggressive.
• Ventus, Terra and Aqua have attempted to beat him on multiple occasions, only succeeding a handful of times. Like Riku and Sora, they work perfectly together. They are sometimes referred to as "The Holy Trinity", because of their popularity and how close they are.
• But damn, if both sides assemble good teams, it's all out war. Which makes for a bloody amazing show.
• It's pretty much the Colloseum. A supervolcano of shouts erupt from the sidelines and the playing field. It's the noisiest but most entertaining thing ever.
• There are people screaming war cries, a hurricane of dodgeballs crossing from one side to the other. You probably wouldn't wanna anger anyone right before a P.E class, just in case you end up playing dodgeball.
"AHHHHH! THIS IS FOR STEALING MY MACARONI AND CHEESE!"
"Oomph!"
• It's like the biggest football game of the year at the end. Cheers, wolf-whistles, fist-bumps and high-fives all go around the winning team, as they rub their victory in the losing team's face.
• The losing team wallow in their pity for the rest of day. Unless someone like Sora is on their team. Sora manages to give everyone a morale boost, because that boy just radiates positivity.
• All in all, Axel loves his school. Not for the education, but for the amount of good times and funny shit that happens there. And his friends. Definitely his friends.
• He'd never admit out loud, but he looks forward to school because of his friends.
BONUS:
• Axel cried a bit during his graduation speech, and bawled his eyes out at the afterparty.
• No one had ever seen him so emotional, so they didn't know what to do. Saix and a few others stepped in to give Axel reassuring words, while everyone else scrambled to get him some sea-salt ice-cream.
• Axel's highschool years are definitely the highlight of his life so far. It's always so fun reminiscing about them. Especially with the stress of university/college.
————————————
This is an old one from a while back (it’s on our other joint account on Wattpad). Axel might be a little OOC, but I still hope it’s enjoyable??
II. Emotions
Tumblr media
Lea spent a ton of his time lost in thought once he was back to being — whole. Recompleted, they called it, but that didn’t feel quite right. There were these gaps in his memories where he knew something was missing. It’d be real nice to know what it was, but ‘course it was never that easy.
Not like he just had to that to think about. There was this icky storm of feelings he’d been without for years and years, and every day brought something new to think about. Kairi talked to him about how they might be able to bring Roxas back, which meant they could do the same for Naminé if any of it even worked. All he could say to her was “I guess so.” Hope was a lot to, well, hope for.
He’d died twice already, and Lea just wanted to set things right this time around. But he was up against a lot. There was all this guilt and regret from everything he’d done in the past. Then there was that bit of hope and right on its heels was the fear of being hopeful. All of it worried him on top of the whole mess!
But things had finally turned around once Ventus was back. Lea really started to believe he was actually up to the task this time. Late, sure, but still. Having hope wasn’t as scary for Lea as it’d been in training with Kairi — after all, things were going his way now. Seemed like as good a reason as any to go celebrate another chance.
So that’s how he ended up on the clocktower, three popsicles in hand, watching the sunset and apologizing again. And to someone who wasn’t even there, but whose fault was that? “Well, Roxas. I should’ve been there for you by now. But here we are.”
“Shouldn’t you say goodbye to your real home?” He knew that voice anywhere, but he looked anyway. Saïx. Isa? Lea couldn’t fight the surprised, even hopeful gasp. ‘Course, that kicked up a whole hive of emotions all over again. Dammit, Isa.
“Why…?” There is was again, just when he was starting to get a handle on all these emotions. The hurt that he would come here, now, to do whatever he was scheming — it hurt more than Lea wanted to come to terms with.
But Isa just had a seat, calmly and naturally like this was his living room and not Lea’s old spot. He crossed one leg over the other, locking eyes with Lea. “I’m not here to fight. Relax.” Deftly, he snagged an ice cream from Lea, who grumbled as it slipped out of his hand.
“Hey!” He swiped after it, but no luck.
Isa tilted his head one way and the ice cream in the other, studying him with gold eyes Lea wanted to recognize. Or maybe he didn’t. Ugh, this was impossible! “You can’t eat all this. Why did you buy three of them?” Lea sighed, looking down at the ice cream in his hands as Isa continued. “One for Roxas… and two for good luck?”
In the short silence after, Lea heard the soft, crisp sound of Isa taking a bite into the sea salt ice cream.
“I don’t know. Because I felt like it, okay?” More things he just didn’t have answers to. The empty spots in his memories made him feel like he had to do things that didn’t make a lick of sense. Lea scoffed, turning that frustration on Isa with a frown. And he’s just eating Lea’s ice cream like it’s nothing. “Why are you here?”
“Got it memorized?” He even mimicked the lilt of it a bit. And that made it all worse. “Back when we were still friends, we used to sneak into the castle.”
“Yeah,” he responded, regret bleeding into his voice. ‘Back when we were still friends’, like it was all over now. If this was to answer Lea’s question, this was gonna be a big one. Not something he was sure he’d like.
“And we made a friend there, a girl. We apprenticed to Ansem the Wise to rescue her.” Isa told it like a documentary instead of something he knew already. And Lea wasn’t having any of that either.
“Yeah, and we failed!” He jabbed at Isa with one of the ice creams, snapping, “One day, she was just gone!”
Saix turned to him with a bit of something in his eyes, a feeling Lea couldn’t place. Not yet, anyway, and it was gone just as quick as it came. “You gave up.”
His voice was level, like he had nothing more pressing than a passing comment to share. Lea knew that was all for show, right then and there. Isa was telling him how much he was hurting. Because of Lea. After all this time too… why’d he wait so long to say something? Maybe if it’d been different, they could’ve really come here together instead of... Lea turned away.
“I did not give up.” A shaky breath escaped him, but he cut that short fast as he could. Had to get a grip on this whole ‘heart’ business somehow. “One day, we’re apprentices. The next, Ansem the Wise has up and vanished. The day after, we’re Nobodies. Day after that, we’re doing icky jobs for Xemnas.”
The helplessness of those days rushed back to him, and Lea ended up gesturing emphatically with the ice cream at that point, admitting more than he meant to. “I couldn’t keep up with you!”
Might as well’ve just said what he felt from the start. Knowing what that was, exactly, would really help with that. Isa listened studiously, evenly, unreadable as ever through it all. When he replied, it was calm enough that Lea could actually look at him. Isa’s face was distant, his ice cream half-finished. Looked like Lea wasn’t the only one preoccupied.
“Following Xehanort’s Nobody was the only way to discover what happened to her. She was his lab rat.” Isa didn’t look or sound any different, but something was off. Lea didn’t even have to think about it. That was a nice perk to the new feelings, anyway. Time to change the tone of the conversation.
“So? You found her? I helped you rise up the ranks, so I hope it paid off.” He gestured to Isa with the ice creams, casually and almost playfully this time. Sitting here, talking like this was — kind of comfortable. Familiar. His heart warmed up, the indignant anger swapping out for nostalgia. Man, hearts were a lot.
It felt like they’d never stopped being friends even if Isa just mentioned their friendship in the past tense. He was here, and not to fight. Could it be…? Nah. Had to be wishful thinking. Probably.
From that look on Isa’s face, a faint glare out at nothing, Lea already had the answer about her. “I’m afraid not. Nary a trace.” Isa looked to Lea and for a moment, he really felt — something. “I started to wonder if we’d imagined her. Maybe she never existed.”
His voice took on more emotion, layers where it was more dry and distant half the time. Even as a vessel, he just more and more Isa as he sat here and talked. ‘Course he’d force his way through that, just like everything else they went up against. “And then, in time, I awakened to a new purpose.” His face steeled over, serious and driven. “I realized I could be stronger.”
Lea scoffed again. All this for that in the end? He couldn’t keep from talking with his hands, ice cream or not. “Well, then, you blew it! Wise up already and just quit.” He really was grasping at straws here, Lea knew it, but his heart was screaming for Isa to come back home. He was here, not for a fight but for ice cream and a chat, and they were talking in truths for the first time in years. It had to mean something. Just had to.
“Face it,” he started, turning to face Lea. “Roxas is just like our other friend. Gone forever.” Even if his expression showed he didn’t really mean it — he was pushing Lea’s buttons to get a reaction, and of course he knew it — it stung. He was gonna get that reaction, alright. Lea squeezed his eyes shut, turning away, pushing the hurt down. “Gone forever. You need to accept that.”
“You wish!” He lashed out, scowling at Saix. “I’m getting her back. All of ‘em!” Lea pointed with the ice cream at Isa again, who just took another bite casually. “Especially Roxas! I’m even dragging you home!” He hadn’t even thought that part out, no second guesses, just said it and meant it. That finally felt right to him. 'Complete.' Isa had finished off his ice cream, leveling that watchful gaze at Lea again as he held the popsicle stick out over the town below.
“The marks under your eyes.” He looked at Lea, almost fondly if his gaze wasn’t so calculated. “They’re gone.” He sounded — impressed? Surprised? Concerned? Ah, how the hell was he supposed to know what Isa felt when Lea just figured out what he felt?
His eyes widened and wandered, and Lea felt lost for just a second. He scoffed, trying to keep up the spirit of what he just said. “Yeah. Don’t need ‘em.” Lea put on his best determined look and still somehow felt like he was a child again — this time with his childhood friend just within reach.
Speaking through the small effort of standing up, Isa kept on talking. “Always told you they’d stop you from crying. The upside-down tears.”
The memories of that phrase, raw and packed with baggage, pushed Lea over the edge. How he could cut right to his core like that, dredge up all these feelings when he had his heart locked away, Lea couldn’t even guess. “Would you get lost?” He waved Isa away with the ice cream again, shaking melted drops of blue at their feet. He put on a frown, pointing at Isa with an ice cream one last time. “I’ll clobber ya tomorrow!”
And would you believe it, Isa smiled. Even chuckled. Opening a dark corridor beneath him, he held to that smile and looked straight at Lea. “I expect no less.”
He closed his eyes, almost content, and was swallowed up in the darkness. Gone like he’d never been there, and yet it felt like he’d never left at all. Lea’s heart was heavy — with hope, with remorse, with longing. Lea let out the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, looking away from where Isa was just standing.
There it was. Sadness. The hollow spot of a friend you missed like crazy. He sighed again, turning his attention back to the sunset. He couldn’t bring himself to eat the rest of these, not anymore. Isa was right again. He couldn’t eat these all on his own. He needed people to share it with and he knew exactly who his heart wanted.
Lights Lessons ~ Chapter 11 Snippet, Kairi meets Ava
Here’s a little bit of chapter 11 that will be going live tomorrow, where Kairi meets Ava for the first time. I’ve been writing this scene over and over for more than a day now and this is the first time I feel like it may be good enough to stay. What do you think?
Kalai had described Invi to her, Lauriam Elrena and Ventus had also described the other Foretellers. Even so, Kairi could sense that there was something different about this person. The fact that she knew her name did not alarm her, nor did the fact that she knew her grandmother’s story. After a few moments, she returned her smile.
“You were the light that drew us to this place.” she said.
“And the darkness.” Ava replied.
“Who…told you that story? My grandma always told it to me when I was little, but I didn’t think…”
“It’s a story I told to my own daughter. She told it to her own children and they continued to pass it down until it found its way to your grandmother and then to you. I’m sure by now you know what it’s about.”
The Keyblade War, the first one. Even though Kairi had taken part in the second one, she did not understand any more about it now than she did before. But she was beginning to see that even with the fall of Xehanort, the True Light had not yet returned to the world, and darkness still threatened to take the worlds.
“We thought we were protecting the light.” Ava went on. “Myself and the other Foretellers. The keyblades we were granted, we thought they were for banishing darkness. But in the end…in the end…” She lowered her head, even with half her face hidden, Kairi could tell that tears were coming to her eyes. “In the end, all we did was create the catalyst for darkness to destroy the world!”
Almost on instinct, Kairi placed her hands in Ava’s. “The first Keyblade War was caused by you and the other Foretellers?”
“We didn’t want for it to happen! But it was inevitable! No matter what we did, it was going to happen!”
“I don’t understand!” her grip on Ava’s hands tightened a little. “If you were supposed to protect the light, how could a war be inevitable?”
“From the first, our Master set the pieces it in motion. And we all fell into it. The roles he gave us contradicted each other so we would have no choice but to fight. Eventually our unions fought with each other too, in our names. It’s what he wanted from the beginning and we were too foolish to question it, until it was too late. I was too foolish to question it, until it was too late.”
“Too late?”
There was a long pause between them. From Ava’s mask, one or two tears fell down her face and gently tapped Kairi’s hands. It brought her mind back to attention and she softly pulled at the Foreteller’s sleeve for more information.
“Kairi, it’s too late for all those who were lost.” she began. “It’s too late for the other Foretellers, still under the influence of the Master’s sinistry. But it’s not too late for the world, not too late for you.”
“I don’t understand.”
By this point, Kairi knew she was in no danger from this Foreteller. Whatever the others were doing, Ava was not working with them and she had begun to wonder if it was somehow Ava that had come to Kalai’s rescue. Though there was still something she did not understand, but she began to as Ava slowly took her hands away from Kairi’s grasp and brought them to the sides of her face.
“Your grandmother’s story, my story, it is not yet over. The second Keyblade War was only the beginning. The True Light will return to the world but it must be protected from the Master. In my attempts to thwart his ultimate design for the world, I…” more tears fell as her mask was removed.
Kairi gasped as she now stared into glowing yellow eyes, copper brown hair now tinted with streaks of silver. Ava lowered her head further in shame but the younger girl suddenly pressed herself against her, still feeling as though she could trust her. It had been so long since Ava had known any warmth so the embrace was not unwelcome, no matter how much she felt she did not deserve it.
“…you..your friends…must be the ones to bring the story to an end, Kairi.” Ava wept. “Right the wrongs that we have wrought.”
Better KH2 AU: Birth by Sleep: Aqua’s Story
BBS (the PSP version), would have three discs, one for each character’s story. This is what would be on Aqua’s disk.
Aqua’s story would open with Eraqus bringing a young Aqua to the Land of Departure.
Terra would ask her what’s wrong, indicating that the two have been friends for some time. Eraqus would explain that Aqua’s master is no longer with them, and so he took over her training.
Cut to six years later, as we then see Aqua in her room, working on the Wayfinders. When she sees the Meteor Shower outside her window, she remarks that the others will probably be there to see it.
Aqua’s reason for attacking the rings is that she feels like she could squeeze a bit more training in before tomorrow’s exam.
She still has the tutorial battles with Terra and Ven, but gets the chance of whom to spar with afterwards.
Her battle with Terra would be playable, and would start after he has a brief flicker of darkness.
When the Fairy Godmother stops Aqua from attacking Lady Tremaine, she asks Aqua what will happen with Cinderella. Aqua insists that she and this world would automatically be safer with the darkness eliminated, but then the Fairy Godmother would point out that Cinderella would still be trapped in the attic, and the leaders of this world would be more concerned with tracking down Lady Tremaine’s murderer than helping Cinderella, as Lady Tremaine is incredibly good at hiding her cruelty.
Lady Tremaine wouldn’t bring her daughters with her when she sics the Cursed Coach on Cinderella, but would still be incinerated by the pumpkin bomb. Her stepdaughters wouldn’t die with her though.
Aqua would actually chase the Evil Queen with the Seven Dwarfs, and get a boss fight with her.
After clearing her first three Disney Worlds, Aqua would report back to the Land of Departure to update Eraqus on what she’s seen.
Eraqus would be disappointed about how she wasn’t able to get Ventus back, as well as that Maleficent got away, and tell her that she must bring Terra back after hearing about what Maleficent said. When Aqua points out that they should probably take what the self-proclaimed Mistress of All Evil says with a grain of salt, he tells her not to question his orders. When she brings up what the Fairy Godmother said to her, he’d tell her to banish such thoughts from her head and, as soon as the Unversed are dealt with, to go back to the Castle of Dreams and eliminate her. When Aqua objects, stating that she helped save Cinderella, Eraqus would reply that it doesn’t matter if the Princesses of Heart are happy or healthy so long as they are beyond the Darkness’ reach. He would also instruct Aqua to eliminate the masked boy. When Aqua shows uneasiness with eliminating a child, Eraqus would spell out for her, point blank, that if he’s sided with the darkness, he shouldn’t be regarded as a human being. He then tells her to head to Radiant Garden, the city of light, and deal with the Unversed that have materialized there. Aqua would be shocked to learn that Radiant Garden is in danger, as it’s where she and her Master came from.
After Aqua leaves to deal with the Unversed, we’d get a cutscene of Xehanort and Vanitas interacting. Xehanort would order Vanitas to eliminate Aqua, as it’ll make their own goals with Terra and Ventus even easier.
Aqua’s Keyblade would glow when Kairi touches it. Aqua would forge a D-link with her after casting a spell on her.
Aqua would encounter younger versions of Aerith and Squall, though neither would see her Keyblade. They would both recognize her though.
The Hundred Acre Wood would be a fully explorable-yet-optional world.
After Aqua defeats him, Vanitas would report back to Xehanort with the possibility of using her as a back-up. Xehanort would consider that a possible option. However, he is also tired of Vanitas acting against his orders, and summons his Keyblade, stating that his latest experiment was a success, and that it’s time that he subject Vanitas to the same treatment.
We’d cut to black as we hear Vanitas scream.
Aqua would report back to Eraqus after Radiant Garden. This time he’d order her to bring Terra and Ventus both back, stating that she’s the only one he can rely on. Aqua would express concern about what Vanitas said to her, but Eraqus would say not to disregard what “it” said and says to destroy Vanitas the next time she sees “it”.
Aqua’s Sticker Album would be based on Fruitball instead of a picnic.
Aqua would forge a D-link with Zack, unlike Terra and Ven.
The next time she reports back to Eraqus, she’d question if they actually need to worry about Terra, stating that from what she’s seen he’s done nothing but help people since they’re falling out at Radiant Garden. Eraqus would then snap at her, telling Aqua that they’re job isn’t to “help people” but to uphold the light and destroy the darkness. When Aqua brings up what Zack said, he asks why she didn’t destroy him, and she’d reply that it’s for the same reason Eraqus wouldn’t destroy Terra, that Zack was a good person. Eraqus would then ask her about Ven and Vanitas. Aqua would reply that she hasn’t seen either one of them since Radiant Garden, and Eraqus would question why he named Aqua Master if all she other does is report back on how she’s failed time and again. Aqua would object to this, pointing out that she’s defeated the Unversed on every world she’s encountered them, while Eraqus argues that she’s been too merciful towards everyone else, citing Maleficent, Vanitas, and Jumba Jookiba as examples of villains she failed to dispose of. Aqua would note that she had defeated Maleficent and Vanitas, they simply bounced back and escaped before she could finish them off, and that Jumba was already in the local law-enforcement’s hands. He’d argue that she should’ve let Gantu destroy him and 626 to ensure that they don’t become threats later. Aqua would argue that that’s excessive when they had the situation covered and only needed her help dealing with the Unversed, but Eraqus would be having none of it, and blast Aqua with his chains of light.
Aqua would throw up a barrier, causing the chains to wrap around it, then ask Eraqus what he thinks he’s doing. Eraqus would calmly state that he’s remind her whose in charge, and then tells her to stop questioning his orders and do as he says. Aqua would dispel the chains with a Counterblast, then point out that she’s not his apprentice anymore, and that he has no right to attack her like that. Eraqus would then tell her to consider her status as a Keyblade Master revoked, then raise his Keyblade, stating that he will remind her to respect her masters, before telling her to dismiss her Keyblade and except her punishment. Aqua would then raise her Keyblade, and the boss would begin.
After depleting a third of Eraqus’ health, the battle would abruptly end. Aqua would ask Eraqus if he’s ready to stop attacking and listen, at which point he’d blast her with his chains of light (this time successfully restraining her), and telling her that he won’t let a child speak to him in that manner.
He’d then tell her, point blank, that the only reason she’s still alive is because he’s respecting her former master’s wishes, but also tell her that she is no longer welcome at the Land of Departure, and that if she ever sets foot there again he won’t be anywhere near as merciful, before opening a gateway to the Lanes Between and blasting her into it.
When Aqua comes to, the chains of light restraining her dissolve and she desperately summons her Keyblade Armor and Keyblade Glider. Once she’s no longer spiralling out of control and manages to stabilize herself, she simply puts her head in her hands and questions where everything went wrong. She’d wonder where she’s supposed to go and what she’s supposed to do, before spotting Neverland.
After the Player lands there, Aqua would remark that this seems to be as good a place to die as any, then summon her Keyblade, bringing it up to her neck, before hearing the voices of children, dismissing her Keyblade and deciding that this might not be the best place to do that after all.
When she picks up the Treasure Map she automatically gets the map of Neverland. During the confrontation with Captain Hook over the missing treasure, another giant Unversed attacks. Aqua would then team up with both Peter Pan and Captain Hook to defeat it.
After it’s destroyed, Captain Hook would immediately try to stab Peter Pan and Aqua in the back, only for the Crocodile to chase him off. The Lost Boys would then question where Ven’s toy Keyblade went, and Aqua would then sense Vanitas, and tell them to stay there.
After defeating Vanitas and collapsing from the effort, Aqua would flash back to when she and her Master lived in Radiant Garden, revealing that she isn’t even a Radiant Garden.
She ultimately decides that dying now would be an insult to the people who care about her, and would thank Peter Pan, stating that she’s in a better place than she used to be, even if she still has a long ways to go.
Aqua would forge a D-Link with Sora after meeting him and Riku at Destiny Islands. Also deciding against performing the Bequeathing since, after her encounter with Eraqus, she doesn’t exactly feel worthy to do so. She then decides that, until she can decide where to go, to head back to Radiant Garden and ultimately figure out what to do from there.
In the Lanes Between, she comes across Mickey on her way to Radiant Garden, and brings him back to the Mysterious Tower, even if she is unsure about whether or not she’s welcomed there.
When Aqua brings Mickey to him, Yen Sid would remark that Eraqus does not have the authority revoke Aqua’s title of Master after passing it down to her, and then mentions that he has both good and bad news about the Land of Departure. The good news is that Eraqus has decided that he had overreacted, and has revoked Aqua’s banishment. Aqua would let out a sigh of relief at this, but then reply that all she intends to do is collect her things from the Land of Departure and move out, since even if Eraqus feels bad about how he treated her in her last meeting, she doubts she’ll ever feel truly safe there again. That’s when Yen Sid shares the bad news with her. The Land of Departure’s star has dimmed, indicating that it has all but fallen to darkness, and that Eraqus himself was struck down. He’d remark that the responsible parties are Xehanort and Terra. Aqua would, of course, object like she did in canon, and hurry to the Keyblade Graveyard.
Instead of the Seat of War, Aqua would go to “The Outcast’s Well”, and instead of the Twister Trench, she’d swim through a “Lifeless Oasis”. There would be shadows in the water, and if one catches her, she’d be pulled under and forced to fight some Unversed. Her version of the Fissure would be titled the “Final Reprieve”.
Aqua would tell Ventus that forging the Χ-blade should be impossible, since she destroyed Vanitas.
When Xehanort arrives, an afterimage of himself would split off and become Vanitas, shocking Aqua.
At the end of Xehanort’s monologue, when the Wayfinder Trio put on their Keyblade Armor, it would change to an FMV, with “Fate of the Unknown” playing.
The capes would be removed, the scene where Ven’s Keyblade is smashed would be removed, and Terra’s eyes wouldn’t turn yellow at the end. Also, the characters would have voicework.
After the FMV ends, we’d get the scene of Braig approaching Ven and Aqua.
Not much, if anything, would change in Aqua’s battles with them.
Braig and Ventus-Vanitas would have bios in the “Characters” portion of Aqua’s Report.
The Story Summary for Aqua’s trip to the Land of Departure would be available in Aqua’s Report as well as the Trinity Archives.
Aqua x Reader (SFW)
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1,565 words
Originally posted on Wattpad. Everyone deserves a happy ending :).
The Land of Departure was the home for three potential keyblade masters. You lived there as well, since Master Eraqus was your uncle. It was entertaining watching Terra, Aqua and Ventus train. Terra was the brute force, striking the practice targets with such force they nearly fell apart. Aqua fought with grace, moving almost like a ballerina. Her strikes were carefully timed, ensuring she would have the winning edge over any opponent. Ventus was quick, moving between targets like there was no tomorrow. Sure he may of been younger than the other two, but he was quickly catching up in terms of power.
“[Name], why don't you join us down here? I have something for all of us.” Aqua says, looking over at where you sat. She seemed excited, the brightness in her eyes bringing a smile to your face. Standing from your spot, you stretch and head down to where your friends stood.
Aqua clasped her hands together and smiled brightly, “I made us good luck charms,” Aqua starts, pulling out four star shaped charms, “Somewhere out there, there's this tree with star shaped fruit. The fruit represents an unbreakable connection and as long as we carry these with us no matter where we're at, nothing can drive us apart. You'll always find your way back to each other. I mean, I think they're supposed to be made with seashells, but I did the best I could.” Aqua smiles sheepishly, dangling her charm in front of her. You all do the same and you can't help but smile.
“But why did I get one?” You ask, glancing at the [color] charm before looking at Aqua. Her eyes soften upon looking at you, the faintest hint of blush dusting her cheeks.
“Even if you don't fight, you're still very much a part of this team. I couldn't leave you out, that would've been just cruel.”
“And I'm pretty sure she likes you.” Terra quips as he walks off, a sly smile on his face. Aqua gapes, shifting on her feet and then sighing in defeat. You look between Terra’s back and Aqua, not sure what to say.
“Do you really..like me?” You point at yourself and Aqua nods. There was no sense in trying to deny it now.
“Heh, I really do. When I first met you, there was just something about you that drawn me in,” Aqua stands in front of you, placing her hand over yours, “And if something ever happens and we're all driven apart, I'll do whatever it takes to get back to you. I promise.” Aqua says, smiling gently.
“Thank you Aqua. It means a lot honestly.” You smile, gently putting the charm in your pocket.
“Don't mention it, now let's get back before it's cold.” Aqua takes your hand, leading you back to the castle like home. You never thought that Aqua would like you out of everyone, honestly you thought she liked Terra. But you were happy, happier than what you have been in recent days.
Despite training for the Mark of Mastery exam that was coming up very soon, Aqua made time for you. She would often find you hiding within your room, reading a book. You had become one of her main reasons to fight harder than ever.
“You going to watch the exams tomorrow?” Aqua asked, sitting on the edge of the bed. You look up from your book, wondering when she came into the room. Though you smile nonetheless.
“Of course, I'll be rooting you both tomorrow. But maybe you a little more.” You toss the book to the side and pat the empty spot beside you on the bed. Aqua moves there, taking your hand in hers.
“Heh, that's nice to hear. I just hope this doesn't rear our friendship apart. We both know there can be only one master.” Aqua frowns, referring to Terra. You give her hand a reassuring squeeze, making her smile slowly.
“It'd be pretty low of him if he got mad. I mean, there's always next year's exam. Nothing would be lost honestly. Am I right?” You ask. Aqua nods, turning on her side and curling up against you.
“Exactly. We'll just have to see how things go tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be okay, but you know how I worry.” Aqua chuckles sheepishly, nuzzling her head in the crook of your neck. Your face warms up due to the closeness between the two of you, but you wouldn't want it any other way. Aqua was too darn precious to push away.
“I'm sure it'll be okay as well, just get some sleep. You're going to need the rest for tomorrow.” You kiss the side of Aqua’s head, keeping a tight hold on her as she relaxes. Nothing else was said, Aqua was blushing over the kiss you left on the side of her head. She could still feel it, making her stomach fill with butterflies.
Aqua soon fell into a peaceful sleep, listening to your heartbeat and a small smile on her face.
The next day, everything was chaotic. From the exam going wrong, all the way to Ventus chasing after Terra who fled the Land of Departure. Aqua was tasked with bringing them back, but the small (majority) part of her wanted to stay with you.
“Call me selfish, but I don't want to leave you.” Aqua frowned, holding your hands. Eraqus told her to say temporary goodbyes, but she wasn't ready. Not when she finally got you.
“I don't want you leaving either, but you have to get your friends back.” You smile, leaning forward and kissing Aqua gently. It was the first kiss between the two of you and the last for the time being. The thought was painful, but you smiled through the pain.
“I'll be back soon, don't you worry [Name].” Aqua walked off, looking back to wave before leaving. You watched her disappear, a quiet sigh escaping your lips.
Now it was only a matter of time until she came back. You had high hopes that everything would be okay.
~ ☆ ~ A happy Ending Because I Can't Handle the Ending of BBS ~ ☆ ~
It took several months, several near death experiences and a strong heart, but Aqua brought her friends back. A guilt ridden Terra followed behind Aqua, while Ventus walked beside her. They were all exhausted from their tedious fight with Vanitas and Master Xehanort. By some miracle, the three friends won. Terra almost lost his way into the darkness, but the power of friendship saved him.
The three enter their home, silence filling their ears as they walk toward the Master's room.
“Are they even here?” Terra asked, running a hand through his hair. They've never heard the place so quiet before, though a clatter from the kitchen and a outburst of profanity soon answer his question.
Heading into the kitchen, the three freeze when they see you in the floor picking up what was supposed to be cookies.
“I forgot the fucking floor was wet. Fucking hell, I ain't baking again goddammit.” You mumble, thinking Eraqus was watching you at the entrance. When you look up though, your mouth nearly falls to the ground. Scrambling to your feet, you slip and slide towards Aqua, Terra and Ventus, hugging them to you as best as you could.
“You guys made it! I missed you so much!” You say, doing your best to hug them, though you were sure one of them was being choked by your efforts.
“Man, you really lack faith in us [Name].” Ventus sputters, wiggling out of your hold and gasping. Turns out, he was being choked. You look at him and smile brightly, releasing Terra from the hug, but keeping Aqua close to you.
“I had full faith you guys would make it back thank you very much. I just couldn't help but worry.” You feel Aqua rest her head on your shoulder, her arms snaking around your waist.
“It wasn't easy, that's for sure. Ven, let's give these two some time and report to the master.” Terra dragged Ventus away, leaving the two of you alone. You turn your attention to Aqua, who was relaxing peacefully against you.
“It really wasn't easy, but we somehow did it. At times, I wanted to lose faith when I was alone. But whenever I thought of you, everything was okay again.” Aqua kissed you, pouring her pent up feelings into the single kiss. She missed you with all of her heart, you kept her going when things were looking bleak.
Pulling away, Aqua was blushing a bit while she touched her lips. You exhale and shift on your feet, nearly blown away by the kiss. It was so simple, but it meant so much.
“I'll always be here for you Aqua. That'll never change, I promise. I love you.” You hug her to you, enjoying the feeling of her being in your arms once again.
“I love you too [Name]. And I'll always be there for you as well.” Aqua presses herself closer, taking all of you in before hearing Master Eraqus call her name.
“I guess I'll talk to you in a little bit,” Aqua kisses you one more time before pulling away from you, “I can't wait to tell you some of the things I learned.” She says, smiling brightly before walking off. You watch her back, a dorky smile plastered on your face.
Aqua was the definition of perfection. There was nothing anyone could tell you otherwise.
Author: The Usual Spot Cafe
Notes: Just a simple little story introducing more Al Bhed culture and the Carnival is coming to town! I know there isn’t really a set like time frame for this Au but bear with us here lol
Prompto gasped a sharp intake of breath and rushed over to the campus bulletin board, dragging his boyfriend behind by the hand making the normally graceful Ignis stumble. “Oh. My. Ramuh!”
“Good lord darling! What’s the buzz?”
Prompto reached out and reverently brushed his fingertips against a bright yellow flyer. “The Moogle Chocobo carnival is going to be in town! Next week! We have to go!”
Ignis smiled softly at him, “okay we will, but first we need to ace Professor Izunia’s exam tomorrow.”
Prompto groaned and hung his head, “do we have to?”
“Yes, we do. Now march mister, onward to our study group!”
Prompto groaned again as Ignis began pushing him towards the café where Ignis’s now mandatory large study sessions were held. Honestly the man was a better teacher than a lot of the professors here… not to mention a better slave driver. They made it to the café quickly, greeted by a heavenly scent of coffee and baked goods. Most people avoided the café on Wednesdays because of how large the groups study session was. Nearly everyone ate dinner together here and helped each other out. It was nice for Prompto and those from Destiny Islands especially since it reminded them of being back there and feeling that close familiar feel. Today the atmosphere was more relaxed since it was the beginning of a new semester. You could tell it was more relaxed because barely anyone had their books out and instead Ventus had a ukulele in his hands and was strumming on it quietly. Accompanying him was Vanitas on his black acoustic guitar, Sora with his wooden flute, and even Roxas on the Ocarina. Yes, Roxas was a total dweeb who learned the Ocarina, and yes, Namine could play a harp like no one’s business.
Most of everyone was watching them joke around and play music while the others were lazily sitting about, enjoying a false sense of calm. When Ignis and Prompto walked in they all looked up, Xion’s eyes grew wide.
“The jig is up! Iggy’s here! Grab your books!”
Ignis held up his hands in surrender. “Hold on! If you don’t need to study you don’t have to! However, don’t distract those who do need to study, looking at you Noctis.”
“Hey! I need to study! I swear I’m going to kill Izunia...”
Sora pulled the flute away from his lips, “aren’t you related to him Noct?”
Noctis narrowed his eyes, “what? No? What are a you, medieval jester? What’s with the questions!? And the flute!?”
Gladio chuckled as Noctis buried his face in his study guide, “ignore him Sor. Izunia is like his uncle twice removed or something, it’s weird I wouldn’t think about it too much. Though I am curious about the flute.”
Luna sighed happily, “I’m just curious as to how all of you can play so wonderfully.”
Ventus stopped strumming for a moment, looking up with serene blue eyes. “In Al Bhed culture, music is really important so our mother taught us a lot of instruments along with Al Bhed songs. That’s mostly what we play, Prompto usually sings when we play during our desert trips.”
His friends and Ignis looked up at Prompto shocked while his cousins snickered together evilly. “Dudes! Did you just throw me under the bus!?”
Instead of answering the four boys just went back to playing a jaunty desert song. Ignis turned to Prompto with a raised brow, “I didn’t know you could sing Prompto…”
Prompto just grumbled and threw his bag down on the floor, “it’s nothing special.”
“Perhaps you should show us?”
Prom glared at Luna across the table, “not now Lu. I don’t feel like singing and we’re not on a pilgrimage so I can’t sing some of the songs.”
“Why not?”
Prompto sighed and ran a hand through his hair, “it’s not something you can just sing whenever… a lot of them are like prayers for a safe journey and whatnot.”
“Safe journey?”
Vanitas stopped playing and scrutinized Prompto. “Have your really never told them what a pilgrimage is Prom? That’s like the most important thing our people do.”
Prompto groaned, “dudes I just have never told them okay? It’s a weird religion thing.”
“It’s not religious! It’s more of a… tribal thing.”
Noctis frowned, “if it’s not religious then what is it?”
Now Roxas put down his Ocarina, “it’s like… a birthing ritual. Like when we go through the pilgrimage we are cleansing ourselves of anything that isn’t from the desert and pure to be reborn as a member of the desert. Some people even will do it as a marriage proposal, kinda symbolizing that they accept your culture and wish to be a part of it.” He put the Ocarina back to his lips and began playing again, falling into note alongside Sora again.
Ignis hummed thoughtfully, “that’s rather interesting. I always forget your father is Al Bhed Prompto.”
“Adoptive father but yeah, he’s from Leha’s sister tribe so we would always pass each other on the pilgrimage.”
Luna leaned forward excitedly, “why aren’t the tribes together?”
“The tribes are separated because we swap villages for a day and leave presents for the original villagers. The southern tribe, my tribe, goes to the northern tribe, the Strife tribe, and vice versa.”
Sora stopped playing for a moment, “that’s the cleansing.”
“Going from one end to the other?”
Prompto coughed, “well geez guys it does take a week to get from one village to the next, it’s pretty cleansing if you ask me.”
Ventus chuckled, “we also pray at each oasis, each one representing an astral. You should see Prompto in his prayer clothes, it’s a sight to behold.”
Prompto squawked, “you four better not show them that! You better not!”
The two sets of twins looked at each other before smiling sweetly at him and speaking in unison. “We wouldn’t dream of it Prommy.”
Prompto muttered something at them in Al Bhed as Noctis shivered. “Still creeps me out when you guys do that.”
They just grinned at him before going back to their music. Prompto narrowed his eyes at the large group, but upon seeing that none of them were asking him anymore questions he finally settled down and pulled out the same study guide Noctis was holding.
Ignis leaned closer to him, “my Al Bhed is a bit rusty… did you just call them a rusty pile of dung?”
Prompto snorted, “what? No! I called them a dirty rip off of Aladdin. Where did you get rusty pile of dung?”
Ignis looked slightly mortified as he stared ahead, “I have no idea… perhaps next semester those are the classes I should sign up for.”
“That sounds like a good idea Igs, hey that means that I could be helping you then!”
Ignis smiled fondly, “indeed it does.” They fell into silence as Ignis began helping Prompto and Noctis prepare for their exam, pointing out questions they would get wrong now and then. The silence, minus the light desert/ islander style music coming from Strifes, lasted for awhile until it was broken by Kairi.
“Hey Sor? Is Dad bringing chocobos up for the carnival?”
Sora pulled his flute away, shaking his head, “not this year. While he was visiting us we had a new hatching so he can’t leave them.”
“Aw! Baby chocobos!”
Prompto frowned at the boys, “what!? How will I get to see Lea or Reggie or Chocobutt this year?”
Ventus shrugged, “visit the islands more often?”
Prompto stuck his tongue out at Ven, as Noctis rolled his eyes at the names. “Chocobutt?”
Ignis raised an eyebrow, “here I thought you would be more concerned about the bird named after your father.”
“Wait what?”
Vanitas looked up, his face an expression of confusion. “Dad’s old friend Reggie? He’s Noct’s dad?”
Gladio nodded, “yeah! That’s what my dad and Uncle Cor call him. I actually distantly remember a third bodyguard…”
Ventus snapped his fingers in realization. “Oh yeah! Dad worked as a guard for a big company after he lost his leg! It was the last year we spent in Insomnia… well mom dad and Cloud.”
“And your dad… named a chocobo after him?”
“He said his feathers and stern eyes reminded him of his old friend. I don’t know, dad’s kinda crazy.”
Sora smacked Ven on the arm lightly, “don’t say that Ven! He’s just… eccentric.”
“So, crazy?”
“Don’t be an ass!”
Prompto groaned, “if you guys are going to argue then leave cause I really gotta study for this exam.” He bent back over his papers, his eyebrow twitching.
The others fell silent until Sora mock whispered to the group, “we should all go to the carnival together next week.”
There was a chorus of excitement the swept over the group until Ignis cleared his throat.
“The carnival is next week and we will think about it then, but for the moment you all need to study, so hop to it. You four included.” He pointed to the musicians who groaned in response and put away their instruments, getting their books out instead. The group finally fell quiet, making Ignis smile in relief as he leaned over Prompto, helping him for a moment before being pulled over to help someone else. Ignis went on autopilot as he helped the large group, his mind drifting to dreaming about going to the carnival with his favorite guy and earning enough medallions to get the best seat for fireworks.
