would you have any sewing patterns that resemble thses kinds of dresses that i could take a look at? i prefer to improvise my sewing patterns but it does help to have a peek at existing ones <3
Tumblr media
I had a look through my vintage pattern envelopes (you can too at bit.ly/mypatternenvelopes) and they are all of the wrong era for that very high, almost empire-waist, just-below-the-bust seam that to me screams late 90s/early 2000s. If you're willing to buy an old pattern, I would suggest searching "McCall's Evening Elegance patterns" which was their formalwear collection in the late 90s. 2182, 2692 and 9287 all have that similar shape and high waist seam, and are recent enough that they should be available for 10ish bucks on eBay or Etsy.
Alternatively, if you're used to starting from scratch, you can take basically any princess-seamed strapless bodice pattern (the first one in this bodice tutorial by Shapes Of Fabric should work), make a quick muslin from scraps to work out where you want that high waist seam to sit, and then do a simple panelled skirt with seams that continue from the princess seams of the bust.
Good luck!

Dear TikTokers romanticizing 2014
I started my second year of university in 2014, so I was 18/19 at the time. And I get it. I admit it too, I tried romanticizing my own life as well. I listened to Lorde and the Arctic Monkeys. I thought listening to soft rock made me edgy and poetic. I was living away from home, so I tried to turn my life into a pinterest board or a John Green novel. At other times I pretended my life was a music video: moody and dreamy and fast-paced.
In 2014, Dark academia was becoming a thing on tumblr before people came up for a label for the aesthetic. You would see posts about sweaters and coffee mugs and candles and gothic architecture.
But the reality was that I was trying too hard to emulate an empty aesthetic. Listening to a certain type of music or decorating your room in a certain way doesn’t make you more than who you are. It doesn’t turn you into someone else. Like going to Europe doesn’t change how “cultured” or “artsy” you are.
Looking back at that period of my life is certainly nostalgic, but also incredibly cringey. I can’t believe that period of the 2010s is being romanticized now. I had no idea who I was then. I was trying too hard to be a collection of tumblr pictures. And that was before I had instagram. Yikes.
But it’s also strange that 2014 is already being romanticized. It was only 6 years ago. When I was 15, I didn’t romanticize teenagers from 2004. I still don’t know what the 2004 “aesthetic” was.
So dear Tiktokers romanticizing 2014 (or anyone romanticizing any era): this is going to sound blunt, but you feeling nostalgia for a cultural period you didn’t experience just comes across as being shallow and ignorant. And to romanticize something that happened not even a decade ago? Well strap in kids, because you’re gonna realize that 6 years isn’t as long as you think it is. Sorry/not sorry for being patronizing.
Maybe I’m just a bitter 25 year old who’s having a quarter-life crisis, but I’m just annoyed at how teens have no sense of history and the things that came before them? Were we like this? Are all teens like this? Like how TikTokers have seemed to recently discovered “flared leggings” when they’re really just yoga pants that people have been wearing since who knows when. And how mom jeans are now back in fashion. And here I am thinking, I’m against my mother on her conservative, misogynistic, and racist views, and yet I’m asking her if I can go to the storage room in the basement so I can raid her 90s wardrobe because I want to look more like her, since it’s trendy now. I’m a hypocrite too, and I hate it.

Have Success in Life Now: Learn The Wisdom of Solomon
Dr Paul MacDonald RN MA Dipl
Before you engage in an activity, do you consider the consequences? Or do you just plunge in right ahead—“leaping before you look”?
All actions carry consequences, good or bad. You may have heard this spoken of as “cause and effect.”
Do you know that this is a law, just as sure as gravity? “The curse causeless shall not come” (Prov.erbs 26:2). In other words, there is a cause for every effect.
For example, if you don’t study, you will fail your exams, or score poorly. If you don’t get enough sleep, you will be tired the next day. If you don’t eat properly, you will eventually become sick. If you don’t practice, you won’t make the sports team. For every effect, there is an underlying cause.
There are many situations in which this ever-present law comes into play. Based on the decisions you make, it can either work for your benefit or to your detriment. This unseen law can build you up—or bring you down.
Obviously, we all want to lead happy, successful lives. We all want to avoid making mistakes that could lead to ruin. Here’s how you can use the law of “cause and effect” to your benefit.
The Hard Way or the Better Way
There are two ways from which we can learn to avoid trouble. The first is by actual experience. Frequently, this involves unknowingly doing the wrong thing, and then through painful experiences learning it is not the right thing to do. You may have heard your parents call it “learning the hard way,” or “learning through the school of hard knocks.”
Perhaps as a child you burned your hand after being warned not to touch the stove. Or you were scratched by a cat, or bitten by a dog, for pulling their tail. At some point, you probably had to “learn the hard way.”
There is a better way to learn: from the experiences of others, especially adults. You should regularly seek advice and learn from your parents, aunts, uncles, teachers and other respected and responsible adults. Many mistakes can be avoided if you listen to those with wisdom and experience.
Of course, you can also learn by reading about the lives of others. Valuable lessons are contained in books written about famous people.
There is another place where you can get advice. The Bible contains many stories written for our learning (Romans 15:4). There is also an abundance of sound advice given by individuals. One such person is a king who lived over 2,500 years ago.
A Wise King
King Solomon was famous for his wisdom. In fact, he was the wisest human being who has ever lived (I Kings 3:12). He was so wise that many kings and other prominent people from around the world came to hear his wisdom. One such person was the Queen of Sheba. Skeptical about his famous reputation for wisdom, she came to test him with difficult questions. But after hearing his answers and seeing his wise administration, and the beauty and orderliness of his palace, she believed!
But even though he was wise, Solomon made mistakes. For instance, he disobeyed God and married women of other religions, even though he knew it was wrong. These women turned his heart away from God, and from God’s blessings (I Kings 11:1-4).
Learn From Lessons in Life
Solomon learned many lessons in his life, and as a result became very wise. He was also granted wisdom by God (I Kings 4:29). This wisdom—which can greatly benefit you—is primarily recorded in the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. While his advice is valuable for people of all ages, much of it is specifically directed to young people. Let’s take a look.
Obey Your Parents
Today it isn’t “cool” to listen to parents. Parents are considered “old fashioned,” and out of touch with reality. Some teens even disrespectfully refer to their father as “the old man,” and to their mother as “a nag.” Many today believe their parents don’t understand them or the issues teens face. As a result, disobeying parents is common throughout society.
Are you tempted to disobey your parents? To disrespect them? Heed Solomon’s advice: “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother” (Prov.erbs 1:8).
Your parents have much more wisdom and experience than you. They can guide you in the right direction and help you avoid harmful mistakes.
Spend time with your parents. Seek their advice. You might be surprised by how much they know. Notice what Solomon said: “The thing that has been is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:8-9).
There's Nothing New Under the Sun
There is nothing new. Your parents have experienced or been confronted with many of the same things as you. They have also seen similar problems in society: drugs, gangs, alcohol abuse, bullies, violence, depression, trendy styles, stress, consequences of premarital sex, problem relationships, broken friendships, etc.
Keep Good Company
Are you tempted to hang out with the “in-crowd”? The crowd that has a reputation for getting into trouble, violence, bullying, constantly swearing, not studying, listening to offensive music, constantly tinkering with their cellphones, dressing in provocative designer clothes, constantly partying, or getting drunk.
Avoid Bad Company
If you want to lead a successful life, then avoid bad company like the plague—or else it will corrupt you. It will influence you into bad habits, into doing things that are contrary to God’s Way (I Cor.inthians 15:33). Associating with bad company will eventually lead to destructive habits, and possibly a bad reputation. Just as dead flies can spoil expensive ointment, one mistake can ruin your reputation (Ecc.lesiastes 10:1).
Avoid Quarrels
Do you become angry easily? Are you quick to get involved in quarrels? Do you take pride in your temper? Are you tempted to “lose it” when provoked by others, when you don’t get what you want, or when someone tells you something you don’t want to hear?
Quarrelling is not a sign of strength, but weakness. Being temperamental is a sign of a lack of character. “He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls” (Proverbs. 25:28). When you fly into a temper, you become defenseless. You start reacting without thinking. This allows others to manipulate you, and therefore control you. They know what “sets you off.” As the saying goes, they can now “push your buttons.” Lashing out can result in a heap of problems with others—and even with men’s laws.
Keep Cool in All Situations
By contrast, maintaining a calm head helps you to think through whatever situation you are facing. It helps you to consider potential solutions and choose the best one. “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city” (Proverbs 16:32). Staying calm keeps you from doing things you will later regret.
Don't Instigate Strife
Another way to avoid quarrels is to not stir up strife with your tongue. Whenever you are provoked by others, remember the following rule: “A soft answer turns away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger” (Proverbs 15:1). Raising your voice, shouting or uttering biting, sarcastic comments only serves to provoke or intensify arguments or disagreements.
Stay Away From Violence
Today, violence is promoted in television shows, music videos, magazines, video games and on the Internet.
Violence is often thought of as something good. It is seen as a sign of strength. It is popular for teenagers to see themselves as “bad.” By this, they mean they will respond violently with overwhelming force if anyone “messes with them” or “disrespects” them.
Don't Be Incited to Join With Wicked Individuals
What if your peers ask you to perform violent deeds with them? How should you react? “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily [secretly] for the innocent without cause…My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path” (Proverbs 1:10-11, 15).
Involvement in violent acts will eventually get you into trouble. It may even cost your life.
You should also be careful of becoming friends with angry people. Their attitudes will eventually infect you, and you will become just like them (Prov.erbs 22:24-25).
Work Ethics
In school, are you working diligently at your studies? Do you do your homework in a timely manner? Or do your parents have to continually push you?
What about when your parents ask you to perform chores around the house? Do you work hard to do the best job possible? Or do you just do things as quickly as you can in a slip-shod fashion so you can get back to what you really want to do? Do your parents consider you to be a hard worker?
The Value of Hard Work
If you want to succeed in life, you must learn the value of hard work. “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute” (Prov.erbs 12:24). And whatever you do, give it your all (Ecclesiastes. 9:10). Don’t perform a task half-heartedly.
Lazy people eventually have little, or even nothing. This is their “reward” for their lack of effort (Prov.erbs 13:4). Don’t let this happen to you; don’t allow yourself to be a “slacker.”
Solomon was a great observer of nature; he learned many lessons there. Next time you see a colony of ants, notice how hard they work and learn from their example (Proverbs 6:6-11).
Don’t wait for your parents or others to ask you to perform certain tasks. Take the initiative, be proactive—and work hard to accomplish the job. Others will notice your attitude, and you will eventually be recognized. “See you a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean [unknown] men” (Prov.erbs 22:29).
There is much wisdom from King Solomon in the Bible, wisdom that will greatly benefit you. Do you want to become successful? Then take time to study the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, and apply the principles therein. If you do, you will be well on your way to success and keep yourself from much heartache and suffering.
Fear God and Keep His Commandments
The greatest piece of advice given by Solomon is found in the final chapter of Ecclesiastes: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. "Fear God, and keep His commandments", for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes. 12:13).
This is the key to success. Do what God says, and see the benefits in your life.

The eight stages of life
Today, I officially become middle-aged. At 10:45 p.m. Pacific Coast Time, I turn 40.
When I was little, I thought being 40, 70, even 100 would be fun. But when I was a teen-ager, the prospect of going from an edgy, rebellious lad to a middle-aged man who's supposed to settle down no longer seemed something to look forward to. I've been in the latter mindset ever since.
In 1964, Jack Weinberg said, "You can't trust anybody over 30". Weinberg, a late Silent born in 1940, is now 79. The Silent Generation (born 1925-1942) had their last members turn 30 on December 31, 1972. The first Silents turned 40 on January 1, 1965, and the last turned 40 on December 31, 1982. The first Baby Boomers (born 1943-1957) turned 40 on January 1, 1983; the first Jonesers (born 1958-1963) on January 1, 1998; the first Xers (born 1964-1978) soon afterwards on January 1, 2004; and the first Millennials (born 1979-2004) on January 1, 2019.
As Millennials begin to fill up the middle-aged bracket without giving up our pro-youth beliefs in our forties, the movement to lower the voting age will gain only more and more steam as the "You'll agree with me when you're older!" claims directed at Millennials by ageists when we were teen-agers become discredited. People often say, "Wait and see". The wait was more than twenty years in the making, but now we're seeing. I didn't stop supporting youth rights when I turned 21. I didn't stop supporting youth rights when I turned 25. I didn't stop supporting youth rights when I turned 30. I didn't stop supporting youth rights when I turned 35. And now it's my fortieth birthday, and I still support youth rights.
It seems that society, at least in the U.S., recognizes eight basic age brackets. It has its expectations and norms about each of these brackets, and once someone has a milestone birthday, she or he is expected to become a different person.
0-5: Early childhood. This is the earliest and most dependent of all the age brackets. Children under 6 are expected to be totally dependent on adults, and watched at all times. Now, even letting a 4- or 5-year-old play unsupervised in the back yard is considered too dangerous. These children are to be kept away not only from profanity and sexual themes in movies and on TV, but also from entertainment that is just too scary or "intense". One would believe that children this age are supposed to be watching Barney and Bear in the Big Blue House -- nothing with death, violence, nor even fear. Although these little ones are under complete control of their parents and denied so much as choice in what to eat for lunch, at least they are safe from compulsory schooling for the time being.
6-11: Elementary school years. Kids this age are still children, but not small children. It is at this point in life that children are forced to go to school and learn to sit still without fidgeting and do work presented as "boring" -- a kind of forced learning that takes all the fun out of learning. Children this age might have a choice in whether to wear their red polo shirt or their blue polo shirt to school if their school has no uniform policy, but their parents are ultimately the ones selecting what assortment of clothes they have in their wardrobe. Although children of this age often have their likes and dislikes in food respected, society still pushes their parents to be in complete control of these children's lives. They are forgiven for going weeks without bathing and for scatological humor; but they are expected not to swear in front of adults, and adults or even older teens are expected not to cuss in front of them. They are absolutely to be guarded from sex and pedophiles, and older people molesting these kids is seen as strictly off-limits. Majorities of middle-aged Americans believe elementary-school-age children should not be left home without a parent or baby-sitter.
12-15: Pubescence. Although society does definitely not see 12-to-15-year-olds as adults, it does recognize that they are going through puberty. As such, junior high schools incorporate sex education and teach 12- and 13-year-olds about the male and female reproductive systems, pregnancy, conception, and the different STD's and their symptoms; schools will also teach about avoiding pregnancy, even if it's just abstinence-only sex education. Society considers these kids too young to be having sex, or to see R-rated movies at the cinema without a parent, but at least it recognizes them as free to be exposed to educational sex talk, and recognizes that they will have crushes on hot boys or cute girls -- both their approximate age and older. 12-to-15-year-olds are often free to go to the mall without a parent and get into fashion and trendy bands. They are not, however, expected to "grow up" and "stop acting like kids". Your average Gen-X 50-year-old today would rather her/his 13-year-old daughter or son watch children's cartoons than vape, or even make a big decision about a medical procedure.
16-17: Semi-adulthood. This period is a jarring transition for teens. 16-year-olds are restricted by social norms that expect them to behave "like an adult", told by 45-year-olds that they are too old to watch Saturday morning cartoons, to tell or laugh at fart jokes, to sing "Miss Suzy Had a Steamboat". At the Oregon Library mentioned in this UPI article, "adulting classes" are offered for 16-to-25-year-olds. In the article "10 Things Your Teenager Isn't Telling You", Izzy says, "I can't stand it when my parents say, 'You're 17. Act like a grownup,' one day, and then turn around and say, 'You're not old enough to do that. You're only 17,' the next. Which is it? Make up your mind!" Middle-aged Americans expect 16-year-olds not to behave like children. But most of them do not believe 16-year-olds should have freedom from their parents or freedom to choose where to go to school. Society also believes that these girls and boys should definitely not be voting, drinking, smoking, vaping, toking, gambling, sexting, or signing contracts. Teens at this point of life are considered old enough to work, and often accused of being "lazy" if they don't have a job, and yet many employers see their young age as a liability and will pass over them. If a teen this age molests or rapes a child, she or he will be seen as a predator and a sicko. Someone who does something evil at this age is destined to be held to it for the rest of her/his life
18-24: Emerging adulthood. When an American turns 18, she or he not only finally gets to vote, but is told that it's her/his civic duty to get out and vote, or else she or he's "not a good American". Pollsters also start caring about what these girls and boys think once they're old enough to vote. Since the seventies, older Americans have been fine with emerging adults signing contracts, consenting to operations, leaving wills, and buying pornography, and also are fine with them either getting married or not getting married. Although most Americans do not believe parents have a right to be a dictator over an emerging adult, these same Americans often welcome parents in as "guidance" figures of a sort when a 20-year-old takes a DBT class or has psychotherapy. Emerging adults are also seen as to be helped with any decisions with alcohol or drugs, due to the outdated scientific belief that "the brain does not finish developing until age 25". Older people often see this age group as lacking in life experience, but are fine with them being idealistic. 18-to-24-year-olds are considered too old to date someone in the 12-15 range.
25-39: Young adulthood. To Boomers' eyes, these people have attained a sort of cultural adulthood that earlier age brackets have not. Society no longer thinks it weird if people are having children at this age, and many people actually pressure 25-to-39-year-olds to get married, to buy a house, to start popping out babies and thereby overpopulate the Earth. Young adults are forgiven by anti-idealism grumps for being idealistic at their age, and allowed the freedom to travel a lot before they have children. Yet they are not protected by age-discrimination legislation against being turned down from a job for being too young. Young adults are expected not to be dependent on their parents, and not to live at home (at least by WASP Americans); they are told they should be working as members of the same society that judges people so critically. 25-to-39-year-olds are considered too old to date someone in the 16-17 range.
40-64: Middle age. These people are considered grown women and grown men, no longer kids nor even young adults. They are expected to act "matore" . . . and also humorless, to be "responsible" parents who have settled down. They are told that everything should be about the children they ought to be raising, not about them, and as much are not given much free rein in traveling or extreme sports. Middle-aged people are expected to be practical rather than idealistic, and as a result 40-year-old Millennials are coming as a shock to the Old Guard. Middle-agers are at the same time free to make their own decisions and judged for choosing to live "too freely" or "too wildly". They are seen as at just the right age when no one should refuse to hire them because of their age, either for being too young or for being too old. They receive the least discrimination from the Establishment of any of the eight age brackets. 40-to-64-year-olds are considered too old to date someone in the 18-24 range.
65+: Old age. Seniors are subject to prejudice from mainstream middle-aged Americans, not for being too young, but for being "too old". Youth and middle-agers alike often view the elderly as "fossils" or "dinosaurs" whose experiences have become too long ago and far away to have remained relevant, and yet many others consider them to have supreme wisdom. Parents will often teach their children not to contradict their grandparents, because while they may no longer be adults at the top of the world, seniors are still adults. Many will go out of their way to help people in their seventies, eighties, or nineties cross the street. While seniors often live in retirement homes and no longer have to work, or are taken care of by their 40-year-old children and no longer have to work, most people consider them fit to vote, and people believe they should make personal decisions of their own accord. Sometimes, though, they get declared unfit to make their own medical decisions or other life decisions due to senescence, and are subject to a second nonage, wherein every aspect of their lives are dictated by other (younger!) people. When a senior's ability to take care or her- or himself lessens, she or he can be viewed as similar to a child, as in the Shel Silverstein poem "The Little Boy and the Old Man":
I hope for the day when human life extension technology comes and a fortysomething or even a centenarian can have the body and soul of a 25-year-old again, because the life expectancy is 1,000 years.

The Whoosh Effect – Losing Fat Before Losing Weight
The Whoosh Effect – Losing Fat Before Losing Weight
The “whoosh effect” describes an interesting hypothesis about a delay between actual fat loss…
…and when we OBSERVE that fat loss.
It’s a lot like gazing into the night sky looking at the stars.
The light was “released” from those stars a long time ago, but we don’t experience that event until the light reaches us.
Millions or even billions of years later.
When I was 16, stargazing involved listening to The Cure and sharing a clove cigarette with Rhonda (we may or may not have held hands).
The song “Close to Me” would come on…
I’d look at Rhonda and tell her about how insignificant we were in this massive universe.
My Astronomy Game was strong back then!
How could she possibly resist?
I should stop with the Rhonda references.
I just find it funny to talk about her 30+ years later.
We only dated for 10 weeks.
10 weeks of teen romance that felt like a supernova explosion.
(Don’t be jealous.)
I’ll discuss the whoosh effect in great detail after a music break.
The music selection for this post is my favorite creative music mashups I’ve found on Youtube.
youtube
(This makes me so happy. It almost seems like Trent Reznor is singing a duet with Carly. How could something be wrong when it feels so right?)
Fully understanding the whoosh effect will help you avoid a lot of frustration when you are trying to get lean.
I first read about this almost 10 years ago.
What is the Whoosh Effect and How Does it Affect Weight Loss?
I give credit to Lyle McDonald.
I could be wrong, but I believe he is the one who came up with the HYPOTHESIS of the “whoosh effect”.
Here’s a link to his original article.
Of Whooshes and Squishy Fat
An excerpt from that article:
Back during my college days, one of my professors threw out the idea that after fat cells had been emptied of stored triglyceride, they would temporarily refill with water (glycerol attracts water, which might be part of the mechanism).
So there would be no immediate change in size, body weight or appearance. Then, after some time frame, the water would get dropped, the fat cells would shrink.
A weird way of looking at it might be that the fat loss suddenly becomes ‘apparent’. That is, the fat was emptied and burned off days or weeks ago but until the water is dropped, nothing appears to have happened.
I have absolutely experienced what he describes here, as have countless people I’ve trained over the years.
youtube
(This is a true mashup masterpiece. Stevie Wonder’s vocals fit perfectly with The Clash. This vintage video is hilarious too. The dance moves and clapping is all perfect.)
What I like about Lyle’s article?
He points out that he has been looking for scientific research to back this for 20 years, but still hasn’t come across a study that fully explains this idea of rapid water release from fat cells.
His hypothesis makes a lot of sense to me.
Your Fat Will Begin to Look a Little Lumpy and Feel Squishy
If you are in a calorie deficit, working out regularly and still not losing weight?
It is possible that you have lost body fat, but it simply has been replaced by water.
When this happens?
Your problem areas will have softer, squishy fat feel and sometimes even a slightly lumpy appearance.
BUT
Your weight on the scale will be the same.
You have lost fat…
…but won’t observe that fat loss until the water is released.
youtube
(This one primarily just uses the guitars from Iron Man, but still funny. It fits surprisingly well with this particular Taylor Swift song.)
Lyle believes fat cells fill with water after they release fat, in order to stay their same size.
It’s an efficiency thing.
When your body stores fat, it is easier to store that fat in a fat cell that is already expanded (from water in this case).
Remember…
Your body wants to store excess calories as fat as easily as possible.
It’s better for survival.
It doesn’t understand that Body Glove zipper swimsuits from the 80’s are making a strong comeback.
…and storing fat is messing with your swimsuit dreams.
Ladies, please make these swimsuits a thing again (big fan).
Your fat cells will basically hold onto this water until it doesn’t seem likely that you will be storing fat again soon.
youtube
(Two legendary dance songs released 25 years apart. I like them mixed together much more than listening to either separately.)
So when does this water get released?
Here are some things that can possibly trigger the release of that stored water.
How to Trigger the Whoosh Effect
So you have squishy fat and whoosh effect symptoms.
AND
Veronica and Tammy are throwing a pool party.
“Everyone who is anyone” is going to be there and this party is happening in next week (OMG).
You want to look you best.
How do you force a whoosh?
Lyle has observed that increasing your carbs and lowering the intensity of your training CAN do the trick.
Alcohol can also help, since it is a mild diuretic.
(Here’s a recent article I wrote about alcohol and fitness.)
I’ve noticed that people often look better after a night of higher calories and a few drinks.
The carbs fill up the muscle with glycogen.
youtube
(The top comment on Youtube under this video was “Sikh and Destroy”. I can’t improve upon that comment. Too funny.)
We have known this for years…
…but it is possible that the carbs release that stored water from the fat cells too.
This used to frustrate me when consulting models before photo shoots.
They would look WAY better 2-3 days after the shoot.
Sometimes it pays to relax.
What is the Keto Whoosh?
The keto diet whoosh is the same as the regular whoosh effect.
Water is held in the fat cells and released at a certain point, but the keto diet whoosh can be pretty substantial.
One of the things that can trigger the whoosh effect is eating carbs.
Since carbs are limited when following a ketogenic diet the body may be holding more water in the fat cells than following a normal diet.
Here’s how to bring on the whoosh effect if you are following a keto diet plan?
Simply have a cheat meal or cheat day once every 3-4 weeks, where you include carbs.
Yes…
It will take a while to get back into ketosis.
But…
Your body should release water from the fat cells and you will look lean.
Is the Whoosh Effect Real?
Remember…
This hypothesis hasn’t been proven by research (yet).
Many of us believe Lyle is correct and that the whoosh effect science is solid.
The main takeaway is that it is possible that you are losing fat and simply haven’t observed it yet.
Most likely your diet is working.
You just need to be patient to see the results.
youtube
(I love Nine Inch Nails mixed with trendy pop music. These songs don’t mix quite as smoothly as that first video I put in this post, but these videos are great together.)
Those fat cells are sitting there partially full of water.
They just want you to relax and order a large beer and a plate of nachos.
Okay, maybe that isn’t entirely accurate. Just don’t freak out if you are putting in a decent amount of effort to get lean, but haven’t noticed any changes.
This happens to everyone.
Well, probably not Rhonda.
…but you get the idea.
Cheers,
-Rusty Moore
