Maybe instead of screaming on tumblr where nothing you say will make much of a difference, you should show up at a school board meeting and actually stand up for books that are being banned, which are overwhelmingly penned by lgbtq and/or POC authors.

But y’all won’t, because screaming on the internet into an echo chamber is a whole lot easier.

the texas legislature only meets every two years and whenever they do its nonstop awful bullshit and little to nothing to help anybody. if you pay attention to the nonsense they’re up to, it actually is pretty demoralizing. i’m not a pessimist politically but until we get money out of politics… things will largely remain the same. we are stagnant in this state because the people in power spend much of their time in office fundraising so that when elections come around they remain entrenched, and nobody is better at this than abbott. he is the most prolific fundraiser we’ve had in long time as a governor. maybe ever. because thats all these people are in office to do - enrich themselves and then serve their donors.

I fully admit as a Jamaican I got into Black Sails because of Max and the show was well written enough to hold me, dropped it early on in season 1 bcse well Max had an awful deal and came back and caught up when they introduced Madi. I’d prefer if the show focused on the Maroons but you know as a black viewer you do that thing where you know you’re gonna get shafted but at least some of the characters get a meaty storyline, I’d say Max especially (and well the colourism surrounding that but that’s every show) and the white characters are well written. But it admittedly sucks I think often black viewers have to do that even with shows where we are represented behind the scenes as writers and show runners bcse the show has to appeal to white viewers. So even shows that are for us are limited in scope either to teach white people something or make them laugh. That leaves you with taking on whatever characters happen to feel like vibrant characters that belong to a well written show that admittedly centres white povs and characters.

And that limits what is done with black characters especially when let’s be real a show that prioritizes black povs is pretty much ignored bcse visual media is a tool to keep white people pacified in their little dream world while their rights are being taken away bcse that delusional bs really works magic on them. Anyway what I’m saying is that well tv/movies are made with white people in mind and it shouldn’t be that way but it is and that’s pretty damn obvious every day on this app.
