ok so i figured out the greenhouse academy timeline on this rewatch and it is wild.

season 1/2: a total of 4 months!-alex and hayley get into the greenhouse 8 months after their mom “dies” then when hayley finds her alive (aka the season 2 finale) she says its been around a year

season 3: 4 weeks! (plus one month after season 2: daniel says that its been one month since marcus was arrested at the start of the season)-louis says his tech conference is 6 weeks away when he leaves and then at the start of season 4 brooke says its 2 weeks away

season 4: 2 weeks!-at the start of season 4 brooke says the tech conference is 2 weeks away and the conference is the main setting of the finale

so all in all the 4 season 2017-2020 show takes place over 6 and 1/2 months. it is the wildest/most traumatizing time of these kids lives and it’s not even a full year.

Our apologies if we're... inconsistent in the next little bit. If you'll allow us to be briefly negative, the 3DS/WiiU online services shutdown is... hitting us, with the abrupt GRIEF of something that was loved and cherished and cared for being abruptly... shut down, just like that. Features taken out forever. Parts of games that could have been loved for years to come simply being... gone. An axe that, unlike with older games, CAN'T simply be recovered from, except with infrastructure. Communication between games lost forever. A whole link in things gone, with a lifespan of barely more than twelve years.

We enjoy the Pokemon games. If we were to start a trade between two GBA Emerald cartridges nowadays, provided we tracked down the hardware, it could still be done. Nothing is lost of communication features. Platinum is a full game without the wifi features, albeit missing a few trade evolutions, and if you have a wifi router with antiquated enough settings, you can still transfer your pokemon forward to Gen 5. Black and White lose few features and can be played in full without hurting too much. With the 3ds...

Pokemon Bank being shut down means no more transfers to future games. A guillotine to transferring beloved Pokemon forward, with no real remedy. ORAS's secret bases rely on passively collecting data from other participants to function. Hacking 3DS games is already difficult, and we doubt that reverse engineering parts of infrastructure that are simply gone will be easy. Maybe it's just other things fucking with us, and we're definitely being a bit dramatic, but... the eShop shutdown already cut off massive amounts of previously playable games. Who will archive online features? Who will archive the things that require connective infrastructure? As things grow more complicated, they grow more difficult to repair. How long before it becomes impossible to replace that which once was?

Twelve years feels like a horribly short lifespan for any technology, and things keep trending worse - making things faster and faster and more and more rushed as the structures they're built on require more and more work. This isn't sustainable. This can't keep going. This market is running faster than we can handle, and it feels like it's only getting faster. Modern things keep being discarded the moment they aren't shiny and new, keep leaning more and more on communication and intercommunication and infrastructure that will rot the moment it isn't actively attended to. How much worse will it be for future things?

There is a game on our computer, fully installed. No online features at all. Yet, it cannot be played. It was made with AOV to prevent piracy, and the servers it was meant to connect to no longer exist.

We don't want more games to be made the same way. But we don't think that this road branches anywhere but an awful demise, approaching faster and faster by the day.

I'm gonna cry!!! Every day when we set out I hope he will be normal again. We went down three houses to the corner, rounded the corner. Here we are on the sidewalk at the end of the block, you can see when I pan the camera he only has a short distance to go and we could be on the other side of the block. This is pretty much the spot he stops every day, then we double back and go past our house again, and usually to the end of our block and out the other end and we walk around the block. And of course to get home we have to come back through this exact spot, and he has no trouble doing it since we came from the opposite direction. But today, he would not leave our street on the other end either, so basically we went nowhere, but up and down our street. He boxed himself in, limiting his opportunity, missing out on sights and smells, increasing his boredom. I don't know what to do, I don't have thousands to spend on a behaviorist when I have a house falling apart in need of costly repairs. I may reach out to a dog trainer, I know of one I can trust, it's just I know they don't come cheap. 😭

I've seen some people theorise that Netflix Wylan has been out of his fathers house longer than book Wylan, which makes me wonder what that means for Alys.

Wylan's father turned on him when he found out his wife was pregnant with a replacement. If Wylan escaped years ago that would mean the baby would have been born. Which doesn't work plot wise, but imagine Wylan having a brother he's never met because of his father's cruelty.

Learning bartending is so fun

#for months ive been begging the bartender at my job to teach me how to bartend #because we have a lot of downtime on our shifts together. and i like to learn new shit #and yesterday it was dead af so finslly he said 'do you want to learn to bartend?' #so he filled a bottle with water and for the first hour he just had me pour shots until i was consistently getting the right measurement #then he said 'okay were gonna make some cocktails' #and he would say 'okay a six count of vodka. a three count of triple sec. a three count of lime juice' or whatever #and i would take my little water bottle and pour it into the shaker #and then shake all of my ice water together #and he taught me like. a dry martini has dry vermouth in it. and dry vermouth is clear so it only goes into coear liquors #whereas sweet vermouth isnt coear and goes into not clear liquors. and the dofference between well and top shelf #and serving etiquette. and what a one and one is #one and ones are my fav because theyre easy. its stuff like vodka cranberry. gin and tonic. rum and coke #a shot of liquor and then fill the rest with the other stuff #he told me a bunch of stuff and not all of it stuck but he had fun teaching and i had fun listening
