I wanted to make these screencaps look like manga scans you might see in the 90s. I hope I accomplished that!

In any case, I thought the scenes where he saves his parents with the barrier were some of the most interesting Koushiro moments in the series. They were so bittersweet and meaningful, and only two episodes later that they had the adoption conversation.

I chose to include the original dialogue first, and then I made the same 4 pages using the english dub dialogue. I happen to adore the meaningfulness of this scene in both versions (please NO dub bashing on my post, thank you!)

One of the most interesting things to witness is how the children’s dynamics with their Digimon partners change depending on the current evolution level they’re on. Throughout Adventure 01, Koushirou’s arc is about getting comfortable with who he is, where he comes from - and how to become more casual. Physical closeness obviously doesn’t come natutal to him - but when it comes to a certain pink blob, things seem to be a little bit easier. Of course, Mochimon (or “Motimon”, how the German dub calls him) is a literal baby Digimon. So the usually witty, feisty and overall independant ladybug, who always has an eye on his human partner, now has to be taken care of himself. And is a cutie while doing so. So let’s enjoy all the mochihugs, mochihats, mochijumps - and mochismiles, of course. Because every brain needs a blob.

Koushiro Week 2022 - Day 2: Adoption/Family

Days: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Title: Embracing My Past Characters: Koushiro Izumi, Tentomon, Taichi Yagami, Yamato Ishida, Sora Takenouchi and Takeru Takaishi. Summary: Koushiro turns to Taichi, Yamato, Sora and Takeru for something he's wanted to do for a while. Koushiro happily opened the door of his apartment to Sora. Yamato, Takeru and Taichi were already there eating some snacks and drinking oolong tea. “Looks like I’m the last one to arrive.” She said as she looked at the three boys in his living room. “So what did you call us here for?” “There’s something I want to tell you.” Koushiro sat down on a chair and handed Takeru a picture. “Who are they?” He looked up after staring at it. “These aren’t your parents.” “They are.” “What?” “This is something I’ve been holding in for a few years. And lately I’ve been feeling the need to share it.” “Did you get to know them?” Sora asked while looking at the photo. “They were a very beautiful couple. I can see you look a lot like your father.” “My mother says the same thing.” “I’m sorry you didn’t get to spend time with your biological parents, Koushiro.” “It’s okay, really.” He gave them a reassuring smile. “I’m actually very blessed to have such lovingly and amazing parents.” “I’m sure they feel the same way about you.” She smiled and then gave the picture to Taichi. “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what happened to them?” “They died in a car accident when I was only a few years old. My biological father was my father’s cousin. My parents had lost a child when they adopted me.” “Wow…” Yamato pressed his hands together between his knees. “I had no idea.” “I was never comfortable telling this story until now.” “I’m glad you are now, though.” Sora smiled warmly. “I’m sure that must have been difficult for you.” “It has. There’s another reason why I told you this, however.” “What reason?” “My mother told me where they are buried and I want to go see them. I want to know if you all would like to go with me.” “Of course!” The girl was the first one to reply, and in an excited way. “You can count on me too.” Takeru quickly echoed his future sister-in-law. “Me too.” “Let’s do it.” “Thank you so much, guys. I was afraid you wouldn’t agree with it or try to convince me not to do it.” “We would never do that.” “I think it’s great that you want to visit your biological parents’ graves. I have no doubt your parents will be very proud of and happy for you.” “Thank you, Sora.” Koushiro said with a smile. “I think so too. Oh and by the way, we’re gonna have to take a small trip for that, since it’s in another city. Is that okay with you?” “It’s absolutely fine.” Taichi replied, looking at the other three people. “I’m always up for a road trip.” “Great. It’s not that far, so we can go and come back tomorrow. And I want to thank you for doing this with me.” “You don’t have to thank us, Koushiro. We’re flattered you turned to us for such an important moment of your life.”

I chose some of my favorite little Koushiro moments that include other people, across different time periods. I apologize for the dark shift in that last one, but that Koushiro and Yamato scene happens to be THE most memorable moment in Kizuna for me.

My dear and talented and wonderful friend @llamavillana collaborated with me for an @izumikoushiroweek project!  I wrote a little oneshot about 2,500 words long called Sans San, and she drew the incredible cover art above:

It's New Year's Day, and Koushiro and his parents are observing Hatsumode, the first shrine visit of the year. There, he runs into Taichi, who helps him achieve last year's resolution. A short story about support and being loved as you are while still committing yourself to growth <3

The work stars Koushiro and Taichi, with a little Hikari.  It’s based around a few Koushiro week prompts, including formal speech, everyone loves Koushiro, and confidence.  I hope you’ll check it out on AO3 or FFN!

As a quick notice, I am in the middle of prepping for a rather intense job interview process, so I haven’t been able to properly enjoy everyone’s Koushiro Week content.  I absolutely will give them all the love and attention they deserve when the interview is over <3  I cannot wait!

I think Koushiro would be a tough person to buy presents for.  I assume he just... isn’t interested in, like, trinkets and merchandise- just research tools and maybe reference books, which are too expensive for gifts.

Hence, he is gifted a lot of ladybug stuff, a way to guarantee he’ll like it.  Ladybug mug, umbrella, keychain, phone case, socks, blanket...  On and on, lol!  

I bet he likes experience type gifts, too!

With them being one of my favourite human/Digimon partner relationships in the entire franchise, it’s nice to think about all the things they went through together; how far they came from basically not really sharing the same value system, to getting to know, understand each other a lot better, making mistakes, getting in or facing trouble and threatening situations, getting separated, learning and progressing together... They have a lot in common - they’re smart, caring and kind and snarky when necessary -, but also complement each other well: The Digimon are not only parts of their partners’ souls, mirrors and guidances, but also help them to see things from different angles. The partnership isn’t just about fighting and getting stronger - but also about kinship, friendship and familial love. 

Tentomon helps Koushirou to get out of his comfort zone while simultaneously helping him to grow and try to let his walls down, with kindness and words of reassurance - whereas Koushirou helps Tentomon to understand the world around them a lot better. Their world(s). 

They’re each other’s safe haven and they’d die for each other if the circumstances required it - but up to this point, their wit, prowess and persistence has always saved them and everyone around them.

So there it is - the last day of Koushirou week 2022. It’s been a fun ride - since I had the week off, I could let the creativity wave wash over me, even if things didn’t turn out as initially planned. The past months have been rather straining, so this was a way for me to find comfort in creating, sharing and finding enjoyable things. There could have been many more things to say and do, with all the great prompts, sharing all the amazing content that was created, honouring the wonderful host of this week, but I feel like this is a good way to close the event. So thank you all for everything.

The story behind this comic is one I have had in mind for a while - with Koushirou vowing during Kizuna that he’d absolutely find a way to prevent the Digimon partnerships from vanishing, he’d be just as persistent in finding a way to bring them all back. No matter at what cost. As we know, he’s not very good at asking for help, so he’d be likely to lose himself completely in the task, researching, going “gate hopping” on his own, knowing fully well that he may not be able to come back in one piece. So once the others found out, they’d move mountains to bring him back - for the first time without their leading strategist to guide them through, since he’d be the one to rescue this time.

Of course they’d succeed in the end. And they’d make sure to, once and for all, let him know how much he is loved and adored and that he doesn’t always have to deal with things on his own.

Digimon Adventure Tri has been very keen on putting emphasis on the relationship between Taichi and Yamato - and I maintain that, while a lot more subtle, the relationship between Koushirou and Sora has been very interestingly framed as well. Yamataikoura, in my opinion, always had the potential to be a great friendgroup on their own (with Sora, Koushirou and Yamato basically being Taichi’s best friends), even if we never really got to see them shine together too visibly. However, I’m thankful for the framings Koura got as calling buddies, aerial fighting duo, potential fashion pals - and those tiny hints indicating that they’re trying to confide in and help/support each other (with varying degrees of success).

Koushirou Izumi, despite being one of the most vital riddle solvers, information gatherers and community connectors among the original Chosen Children, is often assumed to not exactly be a social butterfly. As he is also often described as mentor while being on his path to decipher all the mysteries of the Digital World, this may lead to him displaying a more “work like” attitude towards it all. However, through all of this, one may never forget how lost they all would be without him - as he would also be lost without them. Working, learning, sharing laughs, collecting memories, going through thick and thin and, among it all, enjoying life together - his bonds with his friends, partners, mentees shall never be overlooked.
