If you’re still taking requests, I have an idea that’s been PLAGUING me in the best way possible: Jamie meets reader and she doesn’t know him at first and then maybe a few dates later she’s like “omg you were on that shitty reality show” like she does not pay attention to football at all idk I just thought it would be cute 🩵🩵 I absolutely adore your writing 😊
i love it when an idea is plaguing. thank you for being so lovely in your request, i appreciate it and you so very much <3 ALSO i ended up playing dnd unexpectedly yesterday, so another drabble tonight and then a new chapter of be still, my foolish heart tomorrow!! | 1.4k words, tw language
You're sat in the Crown and Anchor for what will now be your sixth date. Jamie swears that it's your seventh, and that your first date was actually when the two of you stood on the doorstep of your house for three hours before you finally realised how long you'd been chatting.
You'd been assembling a swing in the garden out front of your house and Jamie happened to be walking by. He stopped to ask if you needed any help and that was it. It was eleven o'clock when he finally went on his way with your number written on a piece of paper that he clutched in his fist.
But it couldn't be a date, you'd say, because he hadn't kissed you when he left. Realistically, you just enjoyed the scrunched up face he made when you playfully argued with him about it, but he didn't need to know that yet.
You were meeting his friends for the first time. It felt early, but Jamie insisted how fun they were and that after you'd met them, the two of you would be able to hang out way more because you could come and visit him at work. You weren't sure why you'd have to meet them here first, but he said it would all make sense.
Nothing about this made sense, because you were currently the only ones in the pub, stuffed into a corner booth. Jamie's thigh brushed yours as he jiggled it, seemingly as full of nervous energy as you.
"Why is no one else here, Jamie?" you whispered, lest the woman behind the bar who looked not to be messed with heard you, "Is something going on?"
"Oh, I jus' booked it out," he says nonchalantly. You gape at him. It had always been clear he had some money, but never this much. Your first thought was the fact that he'd only ever been to your house, never you to his. Granted, it had only been three times so far anyway, but still.
"Are you like...rich-rich?" you ask tentatively, then carry on talking before he can answer, "That sounds terrible, oh god, you don't have to answer that. I don't care either way, you know, I just like-"
"Y/N, babe," he interrupts you, squeezing you into his side, "I know what y' getting at. I'm pretty loaded, I'm not gonna lie, but I didn't want y' to know until I was sure about ya."
Jamie was sure about you? That was news to you. You were a little nervous about how early it was to be sure, but it wasn't as if you weren't sold on him too. You were practically besotted with the man really, even if you were hesitant to tell him.
As if he could read the surprise on your face, he opened his mouth to speak again but was interrupted-
"Hey! We're not late, are we?"
There were a few men congregating at the doorway, and the woman at the bar waved them in, greeting them like they were old friends. There were far more people than you'd expected, around ten men and two women crowding into the pub. There was no way all of you would fit around this corner booth.
You crammed any anxiety to the bottom of your stomach and stood up to greet everyone.
"Hi! I'm Y/N, it's so lovely to meet all of you!"
"What the fuck guys?"
Jamie's interjection cut your introductions short, just as you were about to hug the man closest to you who was beaming until Jamie spoke up and ruined his mood.
"I invited Isaac, Colin and Keeley. What are you all doing here?"
They had the decency to look a little sheepish. So that was why Jamie hadn't warned you that there would be 12 of them.
"We all wanted to come and meet the girl you've been droning on about for weeks, bruv," one man chimed in, "We tried drawing straws but it just turned into a huge fucking argument. So here we are. Trust me, mate, like 30 of us wanted to come, so count yourself lucky."
"I didn't fuckin' invite 30 of ya!" he exclaimed, winding a protective hand around your waist. Rather than being intimidated, you now felt incredibly touched that Jamie had been talking about you enough that his friends wanted to meet you so badly, "Did you lot even think about how overwhelming y' might be? Fuckin' idiots."
"Oi! We're on our best fucking behaviour, Tartt. Stop moping and introduce us, you prick."
Okay, so that was definitely Roy. You'd heard at least a little bit about him, that he was sort of a friend/mentor of Jamie's but quite...harsh. That definitely wasn't the word Jamie had used, but it worked.
"Okay! Fuckin' hell, right then..."
And he went around the group. They all pulled chair up to the few tables surrounding yours but didn't crowd you too much. There was Isaac, the one who'd explained things when they came in, Colin and Keeley, of course, who you fell in love with instantly. One group who sat slightly separately were Rebecca, Roy, Ted and Beard who all seemed significantly older than Jamie to be his mates, but you didn't want to question it when everyone was being so nice.
"So, we haven't seen you, so that must mean you've been watching this one on the telly, right?"
Rebecca gestures to Jamie with a warm smile, but when you turn to him, confused, he looks like a deer in the headlights.
"On the telly? In what?"
Rebecca looks suitably shocked now, staring from Jamie to you and back to Jamie.
"She doesn't...?"
Jamie hangs his head and you're left even more confused. You're left staring at the side of his face until it hits you: you'd never connected the dots before but now Rebecca had mentioned TV and you were looking right at him...
"Oh my god!" you exclaim suddenly, making everyone around the table jump, even though the younger lads weren't paying any attention, "Why didn't you ever say anything?"
He looks thoroughly guilty.
"Look, Y/N, I jus' wanted to get to know y' without-"
You weren't finished though, still babbling away to yourself as you stared at him, imagining him as he was when you'd seen him through the screen.
"I mean, it wouldn't have changed anything! Not once you'd helped me, but I suppose if I'd realised maybe I would have been more wary of you. You were terrible on that show! All my friends hated you, and I guess I did too, although I still had a bit of a crush, I can't lie-"
You trailed off when you saw the expressions on everyone's faces. The silence was only broken when Roy burst into loud laughter, throwing his head back in a way you guessed was rare for him.
"You know me...from reality TV?" Jamie said, enunciating every syllable and looking at you in terror. You smiled at him easily, reaching up to push a stray hair back from his face.
"Can't believe I didn't realise it, but yeah. Changes nothing for me, you know. It was a couple years ago right? No more dating shows on the horizon for you?"
If you'd realised this immediately, yes you would have been more on your guard. But you didn't, he was clearly very ashamed of his time on there and you were already falling for him and how fucking nice he was to you. Like every move he made was deliberate. It actually made a lot of sense now, if he had a past to make up for.
It took him a few moments of processing, but he was able to pull you into a side and plant a long, lingering kiss on your forehead eventually.
"No more dating shows," he said, full of relief, "Also, I'm a Premier League footballer, since you've taken that one so well."
Your eyes nearly bug out of your head.
"You're a what?!"
Roy's laugh echoes long into your night, as do the laughs of the rest of Jamie's friends, or teammates as you quickly come to know them. Jamie's more relaxed than he's ever been with you and yeah, you can get why he was sure about this now.

From today's sprint, have this bit from Jamie Murders Zava
He never realised how little he knew about the prison system until he had a body to hide.
With his web browser set to incognito, he skimmed through Wikipedia like a man possessed.
This was what Gail did, wasn't it? With her strange podcasts that gave Ted 'the heebie-jeebies?' She could rattle off the ten most fucked up facts he'd ever heard in a row before they'd even gotten to his traps -- so surely, if she could look it up, then Jamie could do it too, and it wouldn't be suspicious or anything and the police wouldn't come knocking on his door because he was using incognito mode and that meant the government couldn't spy on you.
Right?
He considered typing 'when can the government spy on you?' in the search bar. Then he remembered Moe saying something about how MI-6 used prison labour to spy on people through the webcams, shrieked, and slammed the lid of his laptop closed so fast his Mary Berry Tea spilled over the table.
Jamie stared down at the pooled liquid in horror. That was a specialty blend; Simon made him that blend.
Spread across his kitchen table and seeping onto the floor, it looked like blood.
Would Simon even be allowed to bring him prison in tea?
The blood seeped into his socks.
He was pretty sure that was a no.

is that what your nightmares are about     ?     ╱     @lovelack
he doesn’t like talking about his relationship with his father .   he wasn’t around when he was younger ,   not before he broke through as a player   &   started to make a name for himself in the world of football .   he was around more ,   and the more he was around   :   the worse the abuse became .   little things at first ,   little things that grew bigger and he wasn’t sure how to get out of it .   all the anger and frustration   :   it was turned to those around him .   he wasn’t a good guy before ted walked into his life   &   he soon became some sort of mentor for him .   learned a lot the months he has spent at richmond after coming back .   and while his father is no longer in his life ,   the nightmares comes around now and again .   less when he has someone there ,   even less after marianne started to stay the night .
sits in the bed ,   eyes closed tightly as he will the memories away .   make the words and actions of his father away .   away to a place where it can no longer touch him .   knows he can’t anymore ,   but it’s hard to remember after the last couple of years .   air is exhaled sharply and he looks over to her ,   can barely see her in the dark   &   somehow ,   it feels good .   at least for a second or two .   maybe she won’t see how damaged he really is .

❝   my dad   ?   ❞      voice is low and looking down at his hands instead ,   realize maybe his name had been called out in the dark .   wouldn’t be the first time .   kinda gave him away in things he usually wouldn’t want to talk about .     ❝   yeah ,   sometimes i guess .   ❞

@destage   :    no one has ever kissed me the way that you do.
kissing marianne had always felt like coming home   &   it was a feeling he knew he could never get tired of .   and as much as he made him feel safe ,   there was always something else about it too .   thought he was in love before   (   and maybe he had been .   )   but it hadn’t been like this .   nothing ever came close .   the light trickling across her features from the candles lit around the livingroom   &   the smile lingering upon lips and the way she looks at him like he is someone special .   but he knows it’s not for the usual reason .   knows it’s not because he is a great football player or because he has money or fame or     .  .  .     she see him .   the good and the bad and she still look at him like that .   tip of nose lightly brush against hers   &   eyes near close ,   hint of a smile tugging at lips .   something a little bit cocky perhaps .   because she is special and he wants her to know that .   how special she is to him .   how much he cares for her .   how much he     .  .  .     he loves her .   hand go to the side of her neck ,   thumb brushing along her jawline   &   there is another kiss pressed to her lips .     ❝   and how is that ,   exactly   ?   ❞

@enfate : what did you think after our first kiss?
did he believe in love at first sight ? not at all. but then again, marianne hadn't been in his life until recently & everything changed with her. a good change. a change he didn't know he even needed. a change he didn't know he craved. the stability he needed. coming home ( because his apartment actually felt like a home now, with her books and the pictures that has slowly made it up on walls, her presence that made it more than a place to fall asleep. ) it felt calming. a place he could wind down. if it was listening to her talk, or cook together . . . it didn't really matter, as long as she was there. arms loosely wrapped around her waist, her back to his chest & nose burried into her hair, soft hum at the inquire. did he know back then, that a kiss would lead them here ? no. but even then, it had been different from anything else, no matter how odd it might sound.     ❝   that i would never want to let you go .   ❞      soft mumble into the back of her neck, small smile tugging at the corner of lips. ❝   in a not creepy way.   ❞

Isaac, when Roy finally agrees to play monopoly with the team: So, let me break down the rules for you, alright?
Isaac: No side-coaching.
Isaac: No gifting of money.
Moe: But loans are allowed.
Jan: Just know you're never going to get your money back.
Isaac: You can not collect rent while you're in jail.
Isaac: Moe, Zoreaux, and I don't pay taxes.
Zoreaux: Reparations.
Colin: Don't forget about the Jamie Tartt man baby tax.
Richard: If Jamie loses his temper and flips the board-
Colin: He owes everyone an actual 100 pounds.
Dani, pointing to a scar on his leg: I got this scar from a flying top hat in july.

behind the scenes chapter three | friends with professional benefits
Tumblr media
masterlist | prev | next
pairing: jamie tartt x actress!reader (ted lasso)
rating: T
word count: 3,410
summary: you and jamie get to know each other. let the games begin.
a/n: this is coming out later than i had planned but i hope it was worth the wait! going to be less busy this coming weekend so hope to share more soon and get a lot of chapters in the queue for you all <3
Five days. It had been five days since you and Jamie agreed on your plan to fake date in front of the entire world. And although you didn’t regret the idea - yet - you’d still had enough time to overthink and suddenly become very nervous about things going wrong.
You hadn’t seen Jamie since your conversation in the café, but you had various text exchanges throughout the week. At some point Jamie had asked you what your contact name was for him.
what do you mean? it's your name. jamie.
just jamie?
what else would it be?
you’ve gotta add emojis luv if someone sees your phone it's gotta look like i’m ur boyfriend. mine says ur name with like 5 hearts
That’s when you realized you needed to be more thorough than you thought.
Which is precisely why Jamie was coming over to your flat today. Sure you’d known you needed to get together sooner or later to talk through the plan as a whole, but today you were armed with a checklist of things to cover.
You’d also talked things over with Margot earlier in the week. And Harry. But that conversation had been a lot more cut and dry. He was over the moon you were doing this, and sent you an email with own list of requirements. It basically started and ended with: be a couple in PUBLIC.
With Margot, she’d repeatedly asked if you were sure about the whole thing. You’d told her over and over again that, yes, you had never been more sure of anything in your life. Though by the fourth reassurance, you weren’t sure how convincing you sounded.
Either way, you were committed to this and dammit if you weren’t going to see this through. This was just another role you had to play. It’s what you did best.
From your spot on your coach, you nearly fall off of it when there’s a knock on your door.
Jamie.
Its go time.
You put your laptop down on the coffee table and jog over to the front door. Pulling it open, you’re actually surprised to see Jamie standing on your doorstep holding a bouquet of flowers.
You squint, “Are those for me?”
Jamie scoffs, “No, they’re for your elderly neighbor I just passed. I’m hoping you can introduce me.” You roll your eyes but give him a smile, “Of course they’re for you. We have to make this look convincing right?”
“Jamie, there’s nobody else here.”
“Okay, but what about paparazzi? One could be lurking about and catching me visiting your flat would be the perfect kickstart to this whole thing.”
You chuckle, “I doubt there’s any photographers around here.” Still you look around behind him, and after seeing no one, you pull him into your apartment and shut the door.
“Still, you know Google Earth. Always taking pics,” Jamie jokes, laughing to himself as he steps further into your living room.
You stop in your place before you follow him, “Did you just quote Parks and Rec?”
Jamie spins around, “You understood that reference?”
You laugh in disbelief, “Of course. It's one of my favorite shows.”
“Same,” he smiles, “Used to watch it with my Mum all the time in high school.”
“I love that,” you smile back, closing the gap between the two of you so you can take the flowers from his hands, “These are pretty by the way. Let me go put them in a vase but feel free to make yourself at home.”
You’re quick to fill up a vase in your kitchen, leaving the flowers on the counter, but are surprised to return to Jamie still standing in the middle of your living room, looking around.
“This place doesn’t seem very you,” he comments as you return, plopping down on the couch.
“How would you know? You just met me,” you ask teasingly.
“Well, that’s the point of today isn’t it,” Jamie teases back, joining you on the couch, “Still, it seems very posh and you seem a lot more chill.”
You nod, “Well, I’m just renting this place while I’m here so not much of it is mine. I’m thinking about decorating it a bit to make it more homey.”
“Well if you need any recommendations for places to look, I know some stores that have cool shit.”
“I may have to take you up on that.”
You lean forward and grab your laptop again. You glance over the excel sheet you had open and try to figure out where to start.
“What you lookin’ at over there?” Jamie asks curiously, trying to peak over.
“I want a way to keep track of all the things we need to figure out like our cover story and just things we need to know about each other,” You explain, turning your computer towards him.
His eyes widen at the very detailed and colored coded document you had laid out. “Wow, that’s…intense.”
You chuckle, “Yeah, I may be a creative but I am very Type A. I also don’t want to fuck this up so I think it would nice to have a place to keep track of everything. I can email this to you if you want? Or ooh! I can upload it to Google Drive so we can both edit it.”
Jamie shakes his head, but there’s a small smile on his face, “Sure. Where should we start, Boss?”
“Well, I feel like the most obvious thing we need to cover is how did we meet? How did we get together?”
Jamie’s thoughtful for a second before shrugging, “I feel like we could use how we actually met, you know? It’s realistic because it's actually real. And keeps it simple. We ran into each other and got coffee, or hot chocolate, as some may prefer.”
“Nice, you remember my preferred beverage,” you smile as you start typing in the doc, “Who asked who out? Did we do it that day?”
“You asked to exchange numbers, but I reached out a couple days later. Maybe we went on our first date last weekend?”
You nod thoughtfully, “That works.”
“It would’ve had to have been Friday, though,” he adds, “I had a match Saturday afternoon and told Keeley about seeing someone that night.”
You bite the inside of your cheek, “I filmed late on Friday night.”
Jamie shrugs, “I could’ve waited up for you. Got drinks at a bar?”
Your lips quirk up at the thoughtfulness - even though it was made up.
“Okay,” you continue filling out your spreadsheet, “I have a list of things that one might normally know about a significant other, but since our “relationship” is so new, I think we only need to cover what you would on a first date.”
Jamie’s eyebrows furrow, “Like…what?”
You glance up at him, “What? Jamie Tartt’s never been on a date before?”
He laughs awkwardly, “I’ve obviously been on dates. But we didn’t really do a lot of talking.”
You roll your eyes, “Oh lovely. Alrighty, then, let's just focus on what normal people do the first time they’re getting to know someone.”
“Fine,” Jamie sighs, “Hit me.”
“What’s your…favorite color?”
“Seriously?”
“What?” you laugh, “It's a completely normal question.”
“Yeah, for five year-olds,” he frowns, crossing his arms.
“Come on, you’re seriously going to sit here and tell me you don’t have a favorite color?”
“I dunno,” he shakes his head looking around, “Maybe, blue?”
“Blue? Come on, that’s such a boy answer,” you mock.
“Well, I am a boy if you haven’t noticed,” Jamie throws back defensively, “Its my favorite color your asking, is it not?”
You bite your lip to keep from laughing, amused by how seriously he’s taking this, “It is. Why blue then?”
He shrugs, “Dunno. It’s one of Richmond’s colors. Was a Man City color, which is the team I used to play for and my hometown team. I remember my mum wearing it a lot growing up.”
A genuine smile starts to form on your face as you listen to him ramble. It was the second time he’d brought up his mom. “Are you and your mom really close?”
He turns to you, a little taken back, “You ask about parents on a first date?”
You shrug one shoulder, “If it's going well.”
Jamie has to turn back away from you so he doesn’t do something stupid like blush. He decides to focus on answering your question. “We are. She’s sort of like...my rock, I guess? She’s actually the one who got me into football.”
You nod, listening intently, “And your dad?”
You notice Jamie tense slightly, but he turns back to you with a half smile, “Our relationship’s a bit complicated. Maybe that’s more of a story for a fifth date or something.”
You give him a kind smile, “That’s fair.” And then you turn back to your laptop screen.
“What about you?” Jamie asks after a beat.
You look up with raised eyebrows, “Me? My favorite color is yellow.”
Jamie chuckles, “Noted. But no, I meant, what's your relationship with your parents like?”
“Oh!” you chuckle lightly with him, “My mom is the best. Feels like she might get along with yours; she’s the reason I’m an actor.” Jamie’s smile grows, “She did literally everything in the world to support me even though she was a single mother. I never knew my dad though. He left my mom before I was born so he’s never been around.”
“Oh, that sucks, I’m sorry,” Jamie says softly.
“It’s fine. I don’t know him. And from the brief things my mom has said, its probably for the best. And honestly it's okay. Mom’s been more than enough on her own.”
Jamie nods, the smile back on his face. “Okay, anything else you got on that list besides colors and parents?”
“Oh, I have plenty,” you chuckle, “But feel free to ask me anything of your own?”
“Hmm,” Jamie thinks for a second, “What's your favorite flower?”
You look up, amused, “My favorite flower?”
“Yeah. You know that way I can be more specific next time I get you some,”
You once again have to bite back a smile, “Uh, I would say daisies are my favorite flower.” Jamie nods, committing the information to memory, “What about you?”
“Me?” you nod and Jamie doesn’t even hesitate, “I think lilies are nice.”
“Lillies are nice,” you agree, typing it into the doc.
That’s how you spend the next hour or so, asking one another trivia about each other and inputting it into the doc for ease of studying later. You learn about each others childhood pets and the careers you wanted when you were five. You learn each other's favorite foods, stores, bands, as well as the little things you hated. You learned more about his teammates, particularly those closest to him like Sam, Isaac, Colin and Dani. In turn you told him about how Margot was more like a sister to you even if she was technically your employee, as well as your childhood next door neighbor Katie who was still your best friend today.
You only realize you’d been talking for so long when your stomach lets out a growl, and Jamie doesn’t even pretend to courteously not hear it when he lets out a belly laugh.
“Leave me alone, it actually is almost dinner time, dude,” you defend, even though you find yourself laughing along with him.
“Fair point,” he amends when he catches his breath, “Do you want to order in?”
You don’t even protest the idea of prolonging your time together, thoroughly enjoying getting to know him, “Sure. I can order a pizza.”
You start searching local pizza places into Google, when you remember another item of business you had on your list.
“Ooh, that packet on the coffee table is for you.” you nod in the direction of said stack of papers.
Jamie sits up, intrigued by the mysterious document, and picks it up. He squints at the weird legalese, “Is this…a contract?” You nod, “What, you don’t trust me or something?”
“No, it's not that, it's just standard,” you shrug, “It's more or less just to appease my publicist and the like.” Jamie still looks unsure, so you sit up and start flipping pages of the document for him, “Looks, its no big deal. I already signed it myself. It just states we can’t tell anyone about this. Besides, the NDA expires in 5 years anyway. So by that time, I’ll have an Oscar and you’ll be a washed up football player, and no one will believe you if you said anything.”
Jamie huffs, “I want to be offended by that, but you called it football so I’ll accept it.”
You smirk, “See, I’m a fast learner.” Then you settle back into your spot on the couch and carry on ordering pizza.
Jamie looks over the packet again, before siding it was no use tonight, “You mind if I look this over and get it back to you in a few days?”
You nod, “Of course.”
“And your publicist knows? I mean obviously. And assuming Margot knows? Have you told anyone else?” he asks.
“Nope, that’s all,” You answer, “I get it if you want someone to confide in, but I figure the tighter we keep the circle, the better, right?” Jamie nods, “I mean have you told your publicist or professional team?”
Jamie laughs humorlessly, “My publicist is my ex, Keeley.”
You once again look up at him with your mouth agape, “Nooo, how does that happen?”
Jamie shakes his head, “Not intentionally. She took over the club’s PR before I came back to the team and I guess I never thought to find someone else. We became friends, genuine friends, but then everything got tangled up again a few months ago. And yeah. Here we are.”
You look at him for a few seconds before you let out a deep breath, “Well, that all sounds fun. A real incestuous family you got going on over there at AFC Richmond huh?”
Jamie can’t help but laugh along with you, “Yeah, look what you’re marrying into.”
You chuckle, but weirdly you feel your stomach flip at his phrasing. You brush right past it in order to collect his pizza preferences. As you finalize submitting the order, Jamie starts over analyzing your apartment again. This time he’s a bit more nosy and pulls open some of the coffee table drawers. He gasps when he pulls open the second one.
“No way. Please tell me this is yours and it didn’t just come with the place.”
When you look up, he’s holding up a Mario Kart game cover.
You scoff, “Of course that’s mine.”
“I haven’t played this in ages,” Jamie says, studying the back cover.
Another smile plays at your lips. You nod at the TV in front of you, “I can hook up my Switch if you want. It’s been a while since I’ve played with someone other than myself.”
Jamie looks up at you, an excited grin forming on his face. “You’re fucking on.”
And so you spend the next hour competing against Jamie in various Mario Kart races. You play as Toad, naturally. Jamie plays as Princess Peach which makes you laugh. In between rounds, you munch on pizza and breadsticks. You also manage to get to know each other more, and set up ground rules for your charade even as you trash talk one another.
“I feel like the most important is PDA,” you state, somehow managing to focus on not falling off rainbow road while also talking strategy.
“Well, we’ve obviously got to do some of it,” Jamie comments, cursing as he gets hit with a shell, “It would look weird if we didn’t sometimes.”
“Sure, but we’ve gotta have some boundaries. We can’t just be kissing each other willy-nilly.”
Jamie chuckles, “Well, yeah, consent is key.”
Your lips quirk, “I’m completely fine with small things like hugs and hand holding whenever it seems fit.”
“Okay, cool, yeah,” Jamie nods, “And if you’re fine with it, kisses on the cheek are pretty innocent.”
“Yeah,” you nod, swerving to avoid a banana, “But actual kissing…”
Neither of you know how to finish that sentence. However, your race comes to an end. This time you get away with first place, Jamie in second, which you’d be switching between throughout the evening. Without gameplay to distract you, you have to make a decision.
“Maybe we just take it as it comes?” you suggest slowly, “I mean, couples kiss right? So if it feels right in the moment, it's not a big deal for a peck here and there?”
“Yeah,” Jamie agrees, “And if there’s ever a time we need to make a show of it, we check in with each other. Either beforehand, or if its in the moment, we give each other a signal.”
“A signal?”
“Yeah, like we blink twice or something.”
You nod, “Blink twice. Okay. And if we’re ever uncomfortable with something, we just have to communicate with each other, right?”
“Right.” Jamie nods. After a beat, he extends his hand, “Looks like we’re doing this.”
You chuckle, but shake his hand none the less, “We’re doing this.”
You exchange smiles. Now that the sun has gone down, Jamie decides its probably time to head out for the night, feeling like you’d accomplished a lot over the course of the evening.
As you walk him to your door, you ask one last question, “There was actually one more thing I wanted to ask. If you’re free Thursday night, do you want to come to an event with me? Isabel Mercer’s new movie is premiering, and since she’s dating my costar the whole cast is going. Figure it might be a good place to make a public debut?”
Jamie smirks, “A movie premiere? You should have started with that.”
You snort, “Yeah, well, I had to make sure this mock-date went well first.”
“I’d say it went very well, wouldn’t you?” Jamie smiles, “I think we’ve got this shit in the bag.”
You laugh, “So I guess that means you’re in?”
Jamie does a half bow, “I would be honored.”
“Good, because I hate going to these things. I need someone to suffer through it with me.”
Jamie fake-pouts, “Don’t try to make this sound less fun for me.”
You shake your head, and you make your voice really high as you reply, “Don’t worry, it’ll be great!”
Jamie tsks, “You’re gonna have to be better than that when we’re trying to convince the whole world we’re madly in love.”
“Yeah, yeah, get out of here,” You tease, opening your front door and gently shoving him towards it.
Jamie turns to you with a smile, “Good night, girlfriend.”
You resist the urge to roll your eyes and give him a smile of your own, “Good night, boyfriend.”
Before you can process what he’s doing, he’s leaning in to press a quick kiss to your cheek. Before he completely pulls away, he whispers in your ear, “Google Earth.” He gives you once last smirk before jogging down the steps.
You shake your head as you lock up. This was certainly going to be an experience these next three months.
You flop back down on your couch to review your notes from the evening. After reading through for a few minutes, you remember you hadn’t checked your phone the entire time he was there. Aside from a couple emails and a text from your mom, you didn’t have much since it was a Saturday. However, you also have 2 texts from Margot. The first you had missed from earlier this afternoon, which was a link to tweet from an updates account about you. The tweet contained pictures of Jamie arriving at your flat earlier that day. The second had been sent minutes ago, including a tweet from the same account, this time with pictures of Jamie leaving literally ten minutes ago.
The devil works hard, but paparazzi and stans work harder.
You also realize that Jamie had been right. That smug bastard.
You couldn’t be too annoyed though. The comments under the tweets, even the most recent, were filled with people surprised yet supportive of your coupling. A few even conceding that you did look cute in a relationship. You smile to yourself as you scroll through.
Shit. This was going to work.

hi!! i would love a jamie comforting the reader fic <33 i know this is so so vague LOL but i love a good comfort moment 🫶
so do i anon, this is right up my street! i hope this is similar to what you what looking for <3 this is partly based on some of the scenes at the recent west ham europe final which was just crazy | 1.8k words, tw fighting, reader gets caught & hurt in the middle, language, hurt/comfort
4-0 to Richmond was exactly the result that everyone needed; the players, the coaches, everyone surrounding the club. It had been a tricky few months, results coming and going, but to get a strong win against a mid-table club felt like a step in the right direction after the winter break. From your spot up in the owners’ box, you could see how ecstatic the boys’ celebrations were on the pitch, and you were practically matching them, jumping around with Rebecca, Keeley and the Higgins’.
During their lap around the pitch to clap the fans, Jamie waved at you like a madman while you blew him kisses, both giddy. He made a C with his hand, which always meant to meet him in the private staff car park as soon as possible, and you nodded furiously so that he’d see.
“Meeting Jamie in the car park?” Keeley asks, still grinning as you nod yet again, “I’ll meet Roy there too. It’ll probably only be a twenty minute team talk before they’re allowed a bit of family time after such a good fucking win.”
“Then let’s go!” you laugh, bending down to pick up your handbag.
Something hits you right in the forehead. Hard.
You stumble backwards with nowhere to go, ending up half on the floor, with one arm holding yourself up against your seat. Your vision was swimming, but you could make out an object by your feet that looked like a water bottle, but it must have been almost full to cause such an impact.
“Shit, babe!” Keeley was exclaiming, quick to crouch down to you, “You alright?”
“Yeah, yeah,” you murmur, still a little dazed, but your vision was clearing quickly. It had hit you in the temple, and the shock was staving off some of the pain for now, but you still wavered a little when you let Keeley help you up, “What the fuck?”
“I don’t-”
There was something else flying towards the box and this time, you and Keeley had the sense to duck down and cover your heads. Higgins was shielding his wife, you saw, while Rebecca was trying to usher people inside. When you risked a look downwards at the stands, there were a few men, clearly from the opposing team, who’d decided to make their frustrations with their team known, a small brawl underway between them and the unlucky Richmond fans they’d come across. It was only getting worse each passing second. Feeling something kick in within you, you turn and rush to the doorway, shouting for the security in the hospitality area to follow you back outside as you pointed towards what was happening.
It was at this point more and more security were alerted, and soon, there were enough of them to form a barrier between the two sets of fans, even though insults were still being thrown, along with the occasional plastic cup, water bottle and even one phone. Unable to drag yourself away until you knew the Richmond fans were safe, despite Keeley tugging at you to leave, you spot a woman with her little girl in the fray, looking scared out of their skin even as it died down. You manage to free yourself of Keeley as you step over the low barrier and make your way down the steps to them, pushing past whoever you needed to.
“Hey, this way, yeah?” you said to them softly, reaching for the little girl and picking her up as you carried her back towards the owners’ box along with her mother. There was a particularly angry opposition fan you passed on the way, and even though a security guard was holding him back, he still managed to get a grip on your arm, scratching down the length of it as you brought your arm up to keep the girl safe. Ignoring the fresh pain, you get them inside, then look back for any more people in need.
Higgins had clearly had the same thought as you, leading a group of young boys into the owners’ box to escape things. Soon enough, Rebecca was opening up the barrier and letting the Richmond fans leave through hospitality if they were close enough, with the rest slipping out through an exit behind them while security kept hold of the small group of awful fans. It was finally over, and whilst you’d lost the mother and girl in the crowd, you knew they were safe and it was enough.
“Y/N, are you alright?” Keeley asks, then hisses when you look up at her, “Fucking hell. We need to get you to one of the medics, now.”
“It’s not so bad, I promise. Probably looks worse,” you say, trying to reassure her and yourself, because by the look on her face you must have looked pretty bad, “I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
Keeley shook her head solemnly as she linked arms with you, presumably to steer you towards a medic despite your protests. You’d been attending matches long before you started dating Jamie, but you’d still never experienced anything like that.
Jamie. You hope he hadn’t still been on the pitch when that started, because you knew he’d be beside himself.
“Where the fuck is she? Y/N? Fuckin’ get off me!”
Your heart drops into your stomach when you hear him, how frantic he sounds. You turn towards the staircase, now clear of fans again, and see him running up the steps, followed by a guard trying to stop him and failing miserably. He scans the room before his eyes land on you and his whole body deflates with relief as he jogs over. Keeley takes a step back as he takes you firmly in his arms, clutching you to him as tightly as he ever had. You can feel your own body relaxing under his touch.
“Fuck, Y/N,” Jamie speaks into your neck, still clinging to you just as you were to him, “We were jus’ leavin’ the pitch and then someone points and you’re gettin’ shit fuckin’ thrown at ya? Wait, did they get you, baby?”
He leans back to inspect you, eyes immediately zoning in on your forehead with misery in his eyes. You see his bottom lip quiver and you’re quick to try and pull him back into you but he’s stock still in shock as he stares. It must’ve been a really bad lump if this was the reaction you were getting.
“Jamie, I’m fine,” you say slowly, tipping his chin towards you to make sure he’s looking in your eyes rather than at your injury, “All fine. I promise.”
“Y’ not fuckin’ fine,” he murmurs, ghosting a finger over the bump. You shiver, “We’re gettin’ this checked, yeah?”
“That’s what I said,” Keeley pipes up, still standing off to the side, “Actually, I’ll go get someone. You two stay here, avoid everyone staring at…”
She trails off as she gestures vaguely to your forehead and you giggle at her as she leaves. So it definitely looked bad. You bring your own hand up to touch it, but immediately regret the pain that flares up in its wake. Jamie was quick to reach up and pull your own hand away, kissing each knuckle, then each fingertip. Slow, reverent. You melt into him as much as you can whilst standing up.
“Tried to climb the barriers,” he admits quietly, “I couldn’t see ya, jus’ all the pricks who started everythin’ and I needed to- I dunno. Some prick guard pulled me away.”
“I’m very glad he did,” you soothe, “You can’t score a hat trick and get in a fight all in the same day. Hope this doesn’t steal any of your praise away.”
“Couldn’t give a fuck about the match,” he says, frustrated, “You’re hurt, babe. Are you sure you’re okay?”
You wish he hadn’t asked twice. The adrenaline is wearing off and you’re starting to feel a bit of that panic you should have had in the moment creeping in. You nod your head yes, but don’t trust yourself to speak. Jamie understands immediately.
“Oh babe, he says quietly, stroking a hand up and down your neck, “It’s okay. Promise. I‘m so sorry I wasn’t ‘ere for ya, like.”
“I’ll be fine,” you say, a little choked, enough that he’s pulling you into him again, wrapping you in another crushing hug. It’s just the right amount of pressure to make you feel better, breathing him in and holding him close.
“‘Course you’ll be fine. Got me, ain’t ya?” he says, pulling a laugh from you just as he’d hoped. He leads you over to one of the sofas near the window and sits you down, wrapping you right up in his arms again once your settled, knees tucked into his chest as he tugs you into his lap.
“Really proud of you,” you say quietly, and he just kisses the top of your head, clearly unwilling to discuss the match as he rubs a hand down your arm. But it’s the one some dickhead clawed at, and you can’t hide your wince. Jamie clocks it immediately and peers down at your arm.
“Little fuckers,” he snarls, but you know there isn’t any anger directed at you, “How’d they get this fuckin’ close to ya, love?”
Ah. You didn’t think he’d like this part of the story.
“There was this little girl and her mum, down in the stands. I couldn’t just leave them there, Jamie,” you stare up at him, almost pleading for him to understand, “I grabbed them and brought them out through here. I know, it was stupid, but-”
The tears in his eyes stop you from continuing. You put a hand on his face but he shakes you away, clearing his throat.
“Jus’ don’t know how I got meself such a fuckin’ gem,” he says, laughing wetly at himself, “I wish you hadn’t got fuckin’ hurt, god, but I jus’- you’re so good, you know?”
You glow under his praise, settling into his side so he can’t see you grinning at his words. You tug his arm around you and place a series of kisses along his bicep and back down again.
“You would’ve done the same,” you say, meaning every word, “You’re good too, Jamie.”
“Guess I must be,” he agrees breathily, pressing kiss after kiss into the top of your head, “I’ll make sure I am for you, y’ know? And I’ll take care of ya too, y’ know that right?”
“Yeah I know, Jamie.”
You sink even further into his embrace, aimlessly hoping that the medic never comes and that you might just be able to stay like this forever.

The night Roy met you was the best day of his life but the day you sucked him off in front of Jamie’s locker. And the thing that somehow made it better? Jamie saw it. Roy had the next two days off from Richmond so best believe those two days were spent in bed with you, only leaving for food and water.
Roy was smiling as he walked into Richmond. A sight that truly unsettled all the staff and his teammates. “Alright Isaac? Nice weather the day innit,” he grinned at the boy as they walked to the locker room.
“Uh yeah captain. It’s nice,”
“Gotta love when the suns out. birds chirping. A breeze in the air,”
“Yeah, yeah,” Isaac muttered, looking over at Colin who looked terrified of Roy’s happiness.
As Roy walked into the locker room Colin paused to whisper to Isaac, “Wasn’t it raining?”
“I don’t know what’s going on,” Isaac said, eyes never leaving Roy, “but it cannot be good,”
As the rest of the team began to filter in Roy continued to make happy small talk, even asking Sam how his weekend had been. It was freaking everyone out. the other odd thing however just walked through the door.
“Alright Tartt?” Roy called over, wide grin on his face, “Hairs looking good,”
Jamie just nodded, muttering a quiet thanks as he began to get changed with a grimace on his face when he got to his locker. “What the fuck is going on?” Colin whispered to Isaac who was seriously considering taking up religion in this moment.
Jamie had never been so quiet during a practise. He did every drill without complaint, scored every kick, and even passed the ball. “I’m worried about him,” Ted sighed as he watched him play, “He just doesn’t seem himself,”
“His playing’s excellent though,” Nate said, before trying to joke, “Maybe this is the start of a mature Jamie Tartt,”
Beard crossed his arms as he stared out onto the pitch, “There’s a disturbance in the force. Besides. Roy’s creepy when he’s happy,”
-
“Great work Colin, nice foot work,” Roy praised, patting the boy on the shoulder before running to get the ball.
Just as everyone was about to call for a priest you walked out of the tunnel. Usually, your presence was first notice by Jamie who would give a loud wolf whistle but instead you were able to walk up to Ted without drawing much attention. “And what do we owe this pleasure?” Ted asked, a smile on his face.
“Hey coach. Roy forgot his phone, so I came to drop it off,”
As if on queue Roy jogged over to the group, ignoring everyone but you who he gave an unabashed public kiss too despite usually hating PDA. “What would I do without you?” he joked as you both walked to the side so he could put it in his hoodie.
“You’re in a good mood. Jamie’s still alive though?” you joked.
A wider smile cracked his face, “He’s growing on me. What can I say?” he said but you paused, crossing your arms to scan his face, “What?”
You glanced to the field only to notice Jamie instantly look away when it dawned on you, “You told him!” you whisper yelled, smacking at his chest.
“I did not,” Roy protested, trying to look serious when a smile cracked back on his face, “He saw us,”
All of Roy’s happiness flooded away when a look of pure thunder crossed your face and your hands went to your hips, “And you didn’t think to tell me? Have you been torturing that poor boy?”
“No but- “
“Don’t ‘no but’ me. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Why are you defending him- “
“Does my face look like it cares?” you asked, dropping your hands from your hips only to cross your arms again, “Whatever you’ve been saying to him you better stop,”
“I didn’t say anything! I swear,” Roy said as he realised how much he’d fucked it, “I didn’t mean to upset you,”
“You don’t need to say anything to say something,” you said, rolling your eyes at the confused look on his face, “You better apologise,” you said making Roy scoff, but you were prepared to call his bluff, “No apology, no sex. Sorry I don’t make the rules,”
“That is so not fair,” Roy scoffed, “You can’t do that,”
“Try me,” you smiled as sweetly as possible before turning around to leave, swaying your hips a bit extra than usual to drive the point home. “Bye boys!” you called to the team, glancing back at Roy to send a quick wink before you left.
-
The force was slowly being restored since Roy was now back to miserable and angry but unfortunately Jamie’s mood hadn’t changed yet. Ted had tried pulling Jamie aside but he just shrugged it off. The team was back in the locker room, getting ready to leave.
As Jamie turned to leave though Roy sighed, “Tartt,” he called through gritted teeth, “I need to talk to you,”
“Maybe I don’t wanna talk to you,” Jamie said and the tension in the room could be cut by a knife.
Isaac went to whisper something to colin but before he could even start Roy’s head whipped around to glare at them, “Everyone out,” he barked and instantly the boys sprang to leave, “Everyone but Tartt,”
“Hey I think it might be best if I stayed-“ Ted tried to say but the low growl from Roy and glare from Jamie had him exiting just as swiftly.
“What?” Jamie asked, huffing as he crossed his arms.
“I’m,” Roy started to say but the words tasted like sick as he tried to force it out, “Sorry,” he eventually managed.
“What for?” Jamie asked, cocking his head to the side.
“You know what for,” Roy huffed, “Not stop taking the piss and take the apology,”
“That’s not how apologies work ya know?” Jamie said, dropping his arms, “Ya big creepy weirdo you,”
“Hey, you’re the one that was watching!”
“Was not!”
“So, what were you doing in your car then?”
“None your damn business!”
“Uhuh sure,” Roy said, drawing out the words as he chuckled, “See if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were the pervert. Watching me and my girlfriend- “
“Fucking in my fucking locker? Like a pair of fucking fuckity weirdos fucking- “
Roy couldn’t help but laugh a little, “You’re starting to sound like me,” he said making Jamie huff like a child. Roy sighed as a horrible feeling set in; maybe he had been wrong, “I’m sorry. I crossed a line. Won’t happen again,” he said, actually sincerely for once.
Jamie eyed him up and down before finally nodding, “Okay but just you know. Don’t tell anyone about well…”
“I wish I didn’t even know,” Roy joked making Jamie roll his eyes. The pair were silent for a moment, “We good then? You gonna start being a prick again?”
“You’re terrible at apologies,” Jamie rolled his eyes as he grabbed his bag, “but yeah, we’re good. don’t know how she puts up with you though,” he said as the pair headed out the locker room to finally go home.
Roy couldn’t help himself, “Not just her who goes down- “
“We are not that close,” Jamie cut him off, holding his hand up to Roy’s face and making him cackle laughing.
The pair actually walked out of Richmond joking and laughing together. A sight you saw while you waited to pick Roy up. “See you tomorrow?” Roy said, sending you a quick wave as he walked to the car.
“Yeah mate. Hey you never know,” Jamie said, tapping Roy’s shoulder making him pause, “Maybe next time it’ll be me and Keeley in your spot,“ he tried to joke but Roy’s smile dropped into a harsh glare, “On second thoughts I think I’m late to something bye!” he half yelled as he jogged to his car, never turning his back on Roy.
As Jamie sped out the parking lot Roy finally climbed in the car, “What did you do?” you asked, squinting at him.
“I apologised! Honest,” Roy said, holding his hands up in mock defence, “You can ask him yourself tomorrow,”
“I will text him,” you warned as you started the car up.
Realization dawned over Roy, “How’d you have the pricks number?”
“He gave it to me ages ago,” you shrugged, “Encase I ever needed it,”
“That little fucker,”
