It's only one paragraph but already so many mistakes 😡⁠ 1. Address a senior person by their surname ⁠ 2. Your name should be written in full (No pen names!) ⁠ 3. Know when to use capital letters (For example, in the names of people, places, or related words)⁠ ⁠ Sometimes I get carried away and end up "writing" the whole email for them when I am teaching. Was teaching my Sec 1 kid on how to write an e-mail introduction for situational writing.⁠ ⁠ Generally introduction should address the following: ⁠ (1) Who are you? (If you are writing to a stranger)⁠ (2) Why are you writing this e-mail? (State your purpose)⁠ (3) Summarise what you are going to say in the rest of the e-mail (This sets the context) ⁠ ⁠ In real life (corporate world), e-mail writing will still follow the general format of introduction but it isn't so long-winded one. This was a last minute tuition assignment that I took on from @SmileTutors for a RI Year 4 student in 2019. He was the last batch to take O'Levels. Subsequent (junior) batches were all IP classes. ⁠ ⁠ I had only 4 two-hour sessions with the student. Sadly, his grades did not improve and I felt guilty as fuck when his English results (C6) came out.⁠ ⁠ In hindsight, I could have done a lot more to help him (give him consultations outside of lessons; push him to do more prelim papers etc.) but no use regretting.
