Supercop (1992)
Tumblr media
Let me preface this review by saying that we’re talking about the U.S. version of the film, which runs 4 minutes shorter than the original version. Since the film is known here simply as Supercop I was also unaware that it is the third in a series. Does it matter? Maybe, but the film stands on its own and delivers plenty of laughs along with the incredible stunts and action.
To infiltrate the criminal organization of drug lord Chaibat (Kenneth Tsang), Interpol requests Hong Kong’s “supercop”: “Kevin” Chan Ka-Kui (Jackie Chan). To infiltrate Chaibat's operation, Ka-Kui and Inspector Jessica Yang (Michelle Yeoh), helps one of Chaibat’s key henchmen (Panther, played by Yuen Wah) escape from prison.
When you pick up a Jackie Chan film, what you care about first and foremost are the stunts. The man’s a charismatic actor but no matter how much work is poured into the story or characters, they’re all secondary to kicks, punches and acrobatics. It’s surprising then, that Supercop features a robust story. It’s nothing deep, but we often see excuses to move us from one battle to the next disguised as plots. Not here. There is tension, twists and plenty of intrigue as Ka-Kui and Jessica infiltrate Chaibat’s organization, which helps their cause but also puts them in increasingly serious danger. Their undercover mission also makes for some good laughs, particularly in a scene where Ka-Kui’s girlfriend, May (Maggie Cheung), suspects he is having an affair. It’s goofy stuff and has you chuckling until the criminal business comes back and shifts the genre again. Good stuff.
The stunts featured here are on a level you’re not used to seeing. In Yeoh, Chan has met his match and it looks like they're obsessed with one-upping each other as we draw closer and closer to the film’s big climax: a spectacular finale that’s a must for any fan of action films. Not only does Yeoh play a wonderful straight woman to Chan’s perpetually befuddled and bumbling role, she’s more than capable of keeping up with him physically. The real winners in this competition is us.
You’ll want to stick around for the end credits of Supercop to see several bloopers that prove just how arduous (and impressive) the chases, kicks, punches and jumps truly are. The comedy is effective, the characters likable and the plot engaging. Even the dubbing is quite good. It’s one to seek out. (On VHS, April 14, 2018)

Irene Delroy
G. Maillard Kesslere1929 Oil portrait on canvas: Irene Delroy wearing a cream colored dress with red rose at stomach and thin straps. It has a full lace skirt, and she is wearing a gold necklace with a green charm and gold bracelet. She has short wavy blond hair.
Irene Delroy was born Josephine Lucille Sanders in Bloomington, IL. in 1900. In her late teens, she studied ballet in Chicago, securing a spot in the Chicago Opera Ballet in 1919. Until 1930, Irene starred in follies, plays and musicals. Then, Warner Bros offered her a contract and she made four movies with them, including Divorce Among Friends. Her career took her all over the country bringing her fame and fortune; however, it took a great toll on her and her family. She is a hometown girl who made it big, but her story is also a tragic one, filled with pressures from fame, the destruction of her parents’ marriage, and her own divorce.
Irene Delroy started as a dancer with the Chicago Opera. Later, she was Tom Patricola’s partner in vaudeville; the two were romantically involved. Her invented surname was arrived at by joining the first part of her mother’s first name (Della) with that of her father (Royal). In 1920 she began her Broadway career, mostly appearing in revues and a few musicals: Frivolities of 1920, The Greenwich Village Follies of 1923 and 1925, Vogues of 1924, Ziegfeld Follies of 1927, Earl Carroll Vanities of 1928 and others. She is also said to have been in an edition of Raymond Hitchcock’s Hitchie Koo series, although this credit doesn’t appear on IBDB; it may have been a touring version. Her last New York stage show was Top Speed (1930), which was later adapted into a Joe E. Brown screen vehicle. By Maillard Kesslère.

Found Family - A Sarawat x Tine ficlet
Summary: Inspired by the ‘Yang Koo Gan/Still 2gether’ MV, this is the story of how Charlotte came into Tine and Sarawat’s life and completed their little family.
Aka 2000 words of Sarawatine fluff and softness because I can’t control myself.
Tine scrolled through the pages of potential adoptable animals: Bunnies, cats, hamsters, birds, guinea pigs, ferrets and even a few small farm animals at all. He did not think that Sarawat or their landlord would appreciate a goat in their apartment so his search went on.
When Tine landed on a small fluffy dog, he knew that she was the perfect pet. Her adoptable name was ‘Bow’ but Tine was sure that Sarawat and he would come up with something more suiting. It was always quite competitive to adopt a dog so he sent in the application as quickly as he could, outlining why he and his boyfriend would be the best pet parents for ‘Bow’.
All this research had to be discrete as Tine was planning to surprise Sarawat with a pet to keep him company as Tine was starting a law internship out of town in a few months and he did not want Sarawat to get lonely while he was away. They had been talking about getting a pet for quite a while so it would not be completely out of the blue for Tine to make an impromptu addition to their family without discussing it with Wat first.
A few days passed and Tine worried that someone else had already successfully adopted ‘Bow’ but just as he was about to give up hope, he got a phonetical from a volunteer at the animal shelter asking Tine and Sarawat to come in to meet ‘Bow’ to test whether they would have chemistry as an adopted family. Tine appreciated the process of how the animal shelter made sure that the animal went to the most ‘fitting’ home before just handing them off to whomever showed interest.
“I have something kind of fun planned for us today.” Tine announced as he walked into the living room where Sarawat was messing around with his guitar.
“Hm.” Sarawat paused and put his guitar to the side. “Are we leaving right now? Should I put something nicer on or is this okay?”
“We’re not going out for a romantic dinner or anything.” Tine explained and offered his hand to help Wat up to his feet. “Although you always look good in everything you wear so I guess it would not make much of a difference.”
Sarawat grasped onto Tine’s hand and allowed himself to be pulled to his feet by his boyfriend. “Uh oh. You’re really laying it on thick. Did you do something that I should know about?”
“Nope.” Tine muttered, trying not to be suspicious as they walked out to their car. “I’m just excited.”
Sarawat nodded in satisfaction, although he was still a little curios about why Tine had such a pep in his step. Tine guided Sarawat to their destination and when they approached the building, Wat’s eyes became wide.
He turned to his boyfriend, “Wait. Are we really going in here? Are we just volunteering or something?”
Tine was delighted to see that Sarawat was so excited but instead of answering he took Wat’s hand and pulled him inside of the animal shelter. As soon as they walked in, a volunteer greeted them with a grin, “Are you two here to meet ‘Bow’?”
“Yes.” Tine confirmed and he heard Sarawat humming beside him with pure elation.
They followed the volunteer into a space behind the reception area where they kept all the adoptable pets. Tine spotted ‘Bow’ shivering in a corner while the rest of the dogs played raucously together. Sarawat looked over the crowd of playing dogs and his eyes settled on ‘Bow’ without Tine even pointing her out to his boyfriend. It looked like Tine had made the right choice.
“She’s a bit nervous with other dogs because of her side.” The volunteer explained and they made their way across the play area toward ‘Bow’. “But she loves humans. Its best if you get on her level for introductions.”
Tine and Sarawat both sat down facing ‘Bow’ and the tiny chihuahua looked at them with curios eyes. She seemed to relax a little as she studied them and both Tine and Sarawat remained quite still as to not startle her.
Sarawat reached one hand slowly toward the pup so that she could smell him and she did so without hesitation. She then trotted toward Sarawat and planted herself in his lap as if she was claiming ownership of him. Tine watched in awe as she snuggled in and fell asleep in his boyfriend’s lap.
“I would say this is a match made in heaven.” The volunteer declared, clapping his hands together. “We just have some quick paperwork to do and you guys can take her home with you.”
“Really, that’s it?” Tine questioned and Sarawat gave him a warning look to not press their luck. Wat had clearly already fallen in love with the dog and Tine could not have been happier with the immediate connection that Sarawat had with ‘Bow’.
“That’s it!” The volunteer shared. “Why don’t you come with me Tine and we’ll get the details sorted. It looks like they are doing just fine on their own.”
Tine got to his feet and followed the volunteer but peered back one more time to see Sarawat looking down at ‘Bow’ with fondness in his eyes.
+++++
“Josephine! She could be a Josephine!” Tine suggested and Sarawat just shook his head.
They had yet to settle on a new name for ‘Bow’ as her adoptable name did not seem to fit her quite right, as much as Wat had taken to dressing her up in ridiculous outfits despite Tine’s many protests. It had been a few days since ‘Bow’ had come home with them but the name debate had yet to be settled even though she had made herself completely at home in Tine and Sarawat’s apartment.
“What about… Lulu?” Tine shared as he played tug of war with their puppy on the living room carpet.
Sarawat was in the kitchen preparing some lunch for them and even cutting up some meat for ‘Bow’s’ lunch as well. “I don’t think that’s right either but I’m worried if we don’t come up with something soon she is going to have an identity crisis and no child of mine is going to feel like they don’t belong.”
“Child?!?” Tine exclaimed and looked at his boyfriend like he was crazy.
“Tine, she is our child. We are her parents.” Sarawat stated plainly and brought over the dishes for their respective lunches, placing the small dog bowl onto ‘Bow’s’ mat. “Just because we did not bring into this world ourselves don’t not make her any less of a valid member of our family.”
Tine was completely melted by how seriously Sarawat was talking all this. ‘Bow’ trotted over to her bowl and began to munch on its contents. Tine took his lunch from Sarawat and began to chew away at him, wondering if he could come up with another name that might suit their little pup.
“What about ‘Charlotte’?” Tine blurted out, mid-chew.
When Tine said this, ‘Bow’’s head shot up as if she had heard something and she turned her head to look at Sarawat and Tine. Sarawat pulled Tine in to excitedly drop a kiss on his cheek and declared, “I think she likes it!”
“Charlotte.” Tine repeated and offered his hand out to see if their puppy would respond to the name again. She wagged her tail which, because of her small size, meant her entire body started to shake.
Sarawat nodded conclusively, “Charlotte it is!”
++++++
“She’s scared of them all.” Sarawat hissed as they watched Charlotte stand in the middle of the dog park look terrified. “We should just go grab her.”
“You have more separation anxiety than she does.” Tine responded before resting a comforting hand on his boyfriend’s shoulder. “This is important. She has to become socialized or she will just continue to be scared of other dogs which is not good for her development.”
Tine and Sarawat had gone quite a bit of research about puppy socialization online but all of the advice seemed to be conflicting. Tine decided it was time for them to throw their puppy in the deep end and see how she would do.
Charlotte looked over to them with a look that screamed, ‘Help me’, but Tine held Sarawat back from making a rescue. It took a few minutes but Charlotte seemed to slowly relax into the atmosphere of the craziness that was going on around her. Then, shockingly, she began to follow around a giant dog who also seemed to prefer to keep out of the dog pile.
Tine and Sarawat watched on bated breath as the larger dog laid down and Charlotte began to paw at its face in a playful manner as she often did when she played with Sarawat and Tine. The larger dog was incredibly patient with Charlotte and even let her tug on it’s ears without even flinching.
“Is that your sweet little pup there?” Another dog owner approached Tine and Sarawat. “She seemed nervous at first but look at her go, warming up to Bosley as if they were the same size!”
“Is Bosley your dog?” Tine asked and couldn’t help but feel a bit proud that another owner was acknowledging how well Charlotte was adjusting to the new environment.
“Yup, that big lug is mine.” The owner responded and smiled over at her pet. “If you ever want to let them play again, we’re usually around here every afternoon at the same time. Bosley likes to be on a routine or he can get quite grumpy. Speaking of, we have to get home for his dinner so… we might see you tomorrow, then?”
Sarawat nodded eagerly, “We will be here for sure. Bosley’s a lovely dog and Charlotte is lucky to have met him.”
The owner grinned at Wat’s compliment and called Bosley over before making their way out of the dog park. Upon her new friend’s departure, Charlotte trotted over to Tine and Sarawat looking quite satisfied with herself and seeming much more relaxed then when they had first arrived.
“We’re so proud of you, Char!” Sarawat cooed in delight as he scooped up Charlotte and he snuggled her in his arms. “You were so brave today and you even made a friend. Looks like we will have to come back every day so that you can have playdates.”
Charlotte looked to Tine and Tine offered a head scratch to show his approval as well. Tine looked to Wat and saw that Sarawat was beaming at him, “You were right. We just needed to be a bit patient with her. She really came out of her shell.”
“Kind of like you did when I first started bugging you.” Tine reminded Sarawat before pressing a kiss to his boyfriend’s lips.
Charlotte let out a chirp of protest as she was being squished between her parents chests as they kissed. Sarawat and Tine broke apart and both smiled fondly down at the little pup who had perfectly rounded out their trio.
++++++
“Say goodbye to Daddy!” Sarawat lifted Charlotte so that she was peering out the window and could see Tine getting into the taxi that would take him to the airport to ship him off to his intensive internship.
It was a bittersweet goodbye but Tine knew that, at least, Sarawat would be a bit less lonely with Charlotte to keep him company. Tine and Sarawat had quickly fallen for the little ball of fluff and Sarawat especially had a deep connection with their ‘child’ as he so proudly called her.
Tine waved up to them and Sarawat shook Charlotte’s paw in a way that looked like she was waving back at him. Tine chuckled before blowing a kiss to Wat who grabbed it out mid-air and held it to his heart.
While long distance was not going to be easy, Tine knew that it would go by for Sarawat faster with Charlotte by his side and that was just the assurance that Tine needed to actually get into the taxi and go on his way, leaving his boyfriend and their pup behind to further his career.
The best part was knowing that when he came back, his home would be filled with the two that he loved the most: his little found family.

Being too young for magick.
I have just finished listening to an interview with Josephine McCarthy conducted by the wonderful Chaweon Koo of the witches and wine YouTube channel. I highly recommend this channel she has interviewed some really interesting people.
One of the points Josephine makes is that magick changes your ENTIRE life. Serious magical work is not a hobby, it is not to be taken light heartedly. Mistakes made can be dangerous, even when performed properly excess magical force is very unbalancing. It can effect your relationships, jobs, health- both physical and mental. Magick gets all this stuff moving.
She made the point that people should not explore magick until they have life experience, it has become too easy for a teenager in over their head to practice magick. She said someone should experience life first prior to working magic and said 25 is probably the best age to start. I have to say I whole heartedly agree.
I am currently 24, I have been practicing magic since I was 12. I have been practicing serious ritual magic since I was 14. I was initiated at 19. I was far too young and I believe it has had negative effects. I was mature for my age, I was intelligent, but none of these things matter. As Josephine points out it is not about intelligence or maturity, she is not saying teens are too stupid to work magic or too immature, she is saying they probably haven’t experienced life yet. Be that the joy of life or the shitty aspects of life; both matter!
Josephine also touched upon the idea that men and women process magic differently, she stated that men who draw in too much energy too soon tend to get mental health problems. I can honestly say that this has been the case for me. I was fine until I dove into enochian work when I was 18. There was an influx of energy and I effected me for months After this time I felt flat, lifeless. I felt depressed and anxious, I was left craving for the experience but not having the energy to get there. I was burned out.
I thought, like most 18 year olds do, that I had experienced life, that I knew everything I needed to know. That I knew how the world works. I can say now five year later I was a fool.
Here’s what I had not experienced when I first started magic: relationships, sex, drugs, alcohol, partying, night clubs, true independence, finding who I am by myself, love, true hate, abuse, sorrow, bravery. When I went to university shit really hit the fan, my life fell apart. But now when I look back I am thankful for it, it made me an adult in the sense that I gained life experience and had been burned and now I can cope better. I have a better foundation, and that foundation is better to perform magic from.
Now I think 25 is a little too high in my case, I also had a wealth of negative experience as a child, I was quite capable of looking after myself from an early age. I would say I was truly ready at 20/21. But people who have beeen overly parented and protected, people who have not experienced the world and it’s hardships and joys may not be ready until later.
There is really no hard rule. But if you haven’t experienced joy, love, heartbreak, job loss, financial strain, stress, everything major life can throw at you be aware that magic can throw all of them at you at once and watch you struggle. It can throw you in the deep end and you either sink or swim. When you swim and reach the surface you are changed, magic has evolved you, you are more complete than you used to be, but your life could be in tatters. I don’t want to go into too much detail but I fixed my life, but I am still behind where I could have been if I did no practice magic too early. The benefit now is that I can use magic to catch up, but honestly I would have preferred to be there already and be stable then sat magic from an already stable surface less likely to completely tip over.
I don’t mean to put you off if you are young. If someone told me all this when I was 14 I would have laughed it off and said I’ve already been through shit, I can handle it. If someone told me at 18 I would say the same. Now I see my folly.
By all means study, meditate, do simple spells, do simple workings. But if you are looking into a system which has inner alchemy or transformation of the Self and analysis of the Self embedded into its ritual tech you are in for a bumpy ride. Please be careful, if you feel any sense you are in over your head take a break and a couple of steps back. No matter what your age.

Josephine Langford y Hero Fiennes-Tiffin vuelven en 'After.
¡Ver ahora!
CRÍTICAS DE ‘Train To Busan 2: Train to Busan 2: Peninsula PELICULA” Crítica de After.
After.
