2, 3 and 15 for the toku asks !
2. what was the first show you watched?
w! but i also count ooo as my first rider as well... i watched like 2 episodes of w then like 3 episodes of ooo then two years later i tried watching ooo again and got six episodes in this time and then i marathoned w with my friends. and then marathoned ooo with my friends. so they're like... intertwined lol
3. what shows have you watched so far?
completed: ryuki, faiz, blade, i've watched hibiki to its SPIRITUAL completion which is what counts, kabuto, kiva, w, ooo, drive, ex-aid, zero one
seen more than 10 eps: v3, kuuga, den-o, decade, fourze, wizard, gaim, ghost, build, revice, zenkaiger, donbros
seen less than 10 eps: rider 1971, zi-o, saber, go-onger, toqger (my beloveds), kyuranger, lupat, ultraman orb, ultraman z, tropre, delipre
literally just one or two eps: x (kamen rider), amazon, super-1, agito, amazons, timeranger, gokaiger, gobusters, kyuranger, ryusoulger, ultraman x, ultraman r/b, kaiketsu zubat, changerion, legend hero samgugjeon, dogengers, tokusatsu gagaga
(i am easily distracted and bad at watching shows so i tend to sample a lot </3 faiz is the only toku season i finished without ever groupwatching and it took me a year. at least sampling around a lot makes me feel cultured and knowledgeable)
15. least favorite series?

I think Kamen Rider was always going to have a place in my heart, due to the circumstances around me watching it. An old dear friend of mine suggested it - he and I kinda have a "reverse suicide pact", if that makes sense. We watch 2 hours of Rider every Mon to Fri, right after I am done raiding. It's special to me. He was the first real guy friend I made as a guy. I haven't had a guy friend that looked at me like an equal since grade school lol (Context: I am trans masc lol)
I make jokes about how Kuuga made me gay (it did) and how Drive made me bisexual (fr tho), and I talk a lot about how seeing so many different types of men helps me be more ok with my gender. And that's all true, like really true. But the fact that every season is bursting with sincere hope is just...so good for us? Honestly I don't think either of us are the same people we were before watching OOO, Wizard or Ghost lol Sure I listen to my therapist and take my meds, but I try and live by those Sunday Morning Kids show lessons. And why did we ever stop listening tbh?
I try to reach out, I try to willing accept help. I try not to hide my depression to seem strong for others. I remind my friends as often as I can how much they mean to me, how much I care. Honestly and earnestness have become my goals, not constantly worrying about whether or not I am doing a good job of being human passing. Is being passionate about toku silly? I don't know, maybe? But isn't passion grand? Isn't passion a reason to live?
I don't really know what I'm saying here other then therapy is expensive and pirating Kamen Rider is free - well, the price is toku boy brainrot but like...that's fine I think. We all need something I suppose. I think "craving pictures of Chase" is a lot healthier then substance abuse, which is what I was doing pre-KR.

At long last, I’ve finished my rewatches of Kamen Rider OOO and Kamen Rider Ghost. Every single episode, watched weekly, matching original airdates; that I’ve been doing throughout the entire year. How’d it go?
Once again, this isn’t quite over yet. You didn’t think I was gonna watch all this stuff and end it purely at the last episodes of OOO and Ghost, right? Nah, course you didn’t; loads of movies and little specials for post-series content I’ll be getting too later! Two of them in fact are on Friday and Tuesday, if you can believe it! Ghost was a series that really didn’t slow down for content it seems.
And I’m not complaining -- starting off with my final thoughts on Ghost, this was a beautiful, beautiful ride and despite being partnered with my former favourite OOO, who I would still say I like a bit more than this one; Ghost ended up the highlight of this rewatch by a longshot. SO much depth and theming I didn’t realise was there; frankly a lot of surface-level things I didn’t allow myself to see back in mid-2018. And because it’s been such a highlight I feel I’d be repeating myself a lot here -- the themes of connection! Reaching out and valuing life through a religious lens! Alain’s arc being the best thing ever! Takeru’s heavy emphasis on protecting and being at one with life!
A lot of it fell off at the end, unfortunately. Ghost was a show that I felt was best at expressing its ideas and characterisation through MOTW stories; there was expert craftmanship at play with how engaging those were while still advancing our ongoing stories. It unfortunately doesn’t translate well to when the end is a long, long section of dealing directly with that ongoing story and quite a bit of the theming falls apart there -- not to mention how unfortunate it is that connection is expressed quite a bit through “there’s no parent that doesn’t love their child” which, ech, horrible lesson to send to kids. There’s a bit of an opposite to OOO going on here; where I felt watching that show weekly made the flaws of its episodic plots more apparent, but seriously upped the hype of the final segment? But here it makes the positives of the episodic plots more apparent while making the last stretch feel far more dull.
But while those negatives do remain and they did dull my experience a little towards the end, they can’t keep down what is otherwise in my opinion one of Kamen Rider’s greatest outings and it certainly helps that we had one hell of an epilogue dealing with some of Ghost’s greatest points, bringing things full circle and looking back at all the things that brought us here while looking to the future of not just its own world but what Kamen Rider as a whole would have going forward. This is a show that I wasn’t quite sure what I’d get out of on a rewatch -- it’s one where I did remember not liking a lot of aspects of it and rating it as one of my least favourites; but as time went on I could barely remember why that was while many people around me whose opinions I generally agree with were speaking praises of their own time with it. I wasn’t sure how this would go, and my harsh initial viewing of it meant it was a lot more mysterious to me than OOO. But what I’ve ended up with is something seriously special, something that’s become one of my favourite Tokusatsu shows, and it’s difficult to think of much better for my favourite series’ 50th anniversary.

Rewatching OOO and Ghost has been a wonderful ride. Again, it’s not quite over; there’s post-series content most of which I will be waiting a little while to get to (maybe about a month? give or take?), but in terms of the shows themselves, watching every episode weekly... that was something else. It was a bumpy road, mind: I didn’t even get to start it when I wanted to due to computer issues; other delays came up from other computer repairs and the like... but all in all that’s stuff that could have happened to me back in 2010 and 2015, y’know? And one of the whole points of this little experiment was to replicate the experience of what it would be like to be watching OOO and Ghost when they were originally airing. It wasn’t just about OOO and Ghost themselves - but they were very intentional picks, celebrating the 50th by going back to what was my favourite and what was one of my least favourites and seeing how they held up to my tastes in the modern day - but also about watching a past series roughly as it was meant to be watched. In the same way I was watching Saber or Kiramager or Z.
It was... an exhausting one! I always try to keep up with whatever new Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and Ultraman episode is out each week; and this year I even added Precure to that count for the first time. Not to mention that at around the same time as all this, the official Ultraman channel was also uploading episodes of Gridman weekly and I decided to follow on with that -- so keep in mind at one point this meant I was watching about 7 shows weekly! It was a bit insane! That’s a lot of Toku (and Precure counts as Toku shut up) to take in, and all the while I was having to use wikipedia episode guides and looking up movie dates and doing some research into stuff like HBVs to make sure they all lined up correctly as well. I also initially attempted to do big write-ups for each episode on friend groups on discord! There was a LOT going into this! It’s not something, spoiler alert, I intend to be repeating for Fourze and Ex-Aid now that they’re ‘starting’! I definitely won’t be doing anything like this for a while... but I absolutely do not regret it, and it absolutely was a fun time despite (perhaps because of?) the effort I put into it. What can I say? It started off as a fun little experiment, but seeing these heroes reach out and live their lives burning bright... it hit me as emotionally as it could have. Seeya next movie!

Kari’s Impressions of Kamen Rider, Redux
Now that I’m familiar with most of Heisei Phase 2, I feel obligated to revise my earlier impressions of them when I first stumbled into the fandom
Double: I will forever curse this goddamned show to hell for being so good that every other toku series I watch after it will be compared against it... Shoutaro has officially beaten (by a very, very slim margin) Sento as my favorite protagonist, Shoutaro and Philip’s relationship is one of the best written in toku history, and this series is what I’d recommend a newcomer to watch because of its simple, but overall well-executed plot.
Also, I blame this show for my crush on Renn Kiriyama. He’s so handsome goooooosh... and his chemistry with Masaki Suda was off the charts. Why isn’t he as famous as Masaki is? Beats me.
Also... If you’re one of those people who hated Philip being brought back... SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR COW!
OOO: As expected from a series written by Kobayashi it’s really good- my favorite Sentai series, GoBusters and Shinkenger, were also written by her, so I knew going in it was gonna be the shit.
On the other hand I wish she explored more of the implications of the various mindfucks she gave the characters. Seriously, all of them should probably check into a mental hospital for all their issues.
Also, BRING BACK ANKH YA COWARDS
Fourze: There’s a reason the tag ‘kisaragi gentaro is incorruptible pure pureness’ gets a lot of mileage and it’s because this show made me smile a lot. I just love this space boi so much...
And god help me I will die for every single member of the KRC. Every. Single. One. Even Ohsugi, who somehow made more appearances post-Fourze than Gentaro himself
I’m still bitter Nadeshiko wasn’t part of the main cast though. We deserve adorable badass female Riders who don’t die at the end!
Wizard: Honestly I don’t have a lot of things to say about this series. Probably the best thing about it is Haruto and Koyomi’s relationship because it’s so sweet and pure... but then they fridged her sooooooo
However, this series will forever be remembered by me as the one that started the signature food trend for Kamen Rider. Kousuke might as well be a living ad for Kewpie mayonnaise
Gaim: Seriously, whoever thought getting Gen Urobuchi to write a Kamen Rider series is a good idea is probably crazy. Gaim is seriously fucked up, to the point I won’t recommend it to someone below 13. And honestly I can’t stomach a lot of the stuff that happened in series
On the other hand, that they made fruits badass was freaking awesome on their part. And also having the first confirmed canonically gay Kamen Rider!
Drive: I like this series for a lot of reasons I liked Double... because they were both head-written by Riku Sanjo, who also wrote for another of my favorite Sentai series, Kyouryuger. I’m a sucker for police procedurals, having grown up on CSI and NCIS, so this was perfect for me
The Roidmudes are probably my favorite villains, especially Brain because he’s funny (which was why I was so happy Kamen Rider Brain was legit!) But then there villainous role was taken by Banno, who I seriously wanted to murder, resurrect and then murder again for eternity over what he did to Gou and Kiriko
Speaking of Gou... Toei please stop the bicon from suffering and just bring back his dream boy already
Ghost: I seriously have no idea what people dislike about the series. Takeru is an adorkable sweetheart, and he doesn’t deserve all the hate he gets... I get that him dying over and over is a bit repetitive, but that’s why he’s Kamen Rider Ghost and not Kamen Rider Alive!
Also, like in Gaim where they took something mundane and made it awesome, I still can’t believe they managed to pull off the historical figures as parka jackets thing. And it really gave Ghost a unique style compared to, say, Double where they deliberately invoked the OG Rider in his base form
Speaking of OG... if Takeshi Hongo catches wind of what people say about Takeru, he’ll probably go fuck them up for bullying his ‘grandson’. Just saying.
Ex-Aid: This season is freaking wild. Who would’ve thought that a medical drama Kamen Rider series whose motif is video games would work as well as it did? It worked so well that the crossover movie’s villain was fucking Pac-Man (Seriously, whoever realized that “Wait... Ghosts... Video games... we work with Bandai who now owns Namco... PAC-MAN!!!” deserves a raise.)
However... why did series torture its protagonist so much? Poor Emu... I wonder what kind of sadist the writer is that the titular Rider was implied, then confirmed, to have attempted suicide as a child... and have it be the least fucked up thing that happened to him in the series! Poor sweet doctor gamer...
Build: This series. Oh my god, this series.
I’m sort of glad I started with this series because it allowed me to handle all the fuckery that the other series had. Because boy oh boy, was this series fucked up. Fantastic, awesome, but fucked up. I mean, how fucked up is it that the series starts with Japan split in three by an apocalyptic event and it actually gets worse and worse?
On the other hand, I can’t say anything wrong about the series. Partly because I will always be biased for my first Kamen Rider series, but also because it was just. That. Good. The writing, the characters, the relationships, the cinematography, the suits... and the beautiful cast, including the main man himself, Atsuhiro ‘Acchan’ Inukai who is so fucking pretty and dorky that even straight guys are a little gay for him (which is a comment I really got on one of my fics).
Also... RyuSen. Let’s just say there’s a reason that they were the couple that got me writing gay romance... and smut... for the first time ever.

Best of Toku 2018
zali tagged me in this so here are my 100% correct toku opinions of 2018
Best New Show of 2018 - ultraman r/b!!!!!!! i wanna wait until it’s finished to really decide but it’s probably my favorite ultra Best New-to-You Show of 2018 - i was gonna say timeranger but i watched like half of it in 2017 so i’ll go with kamen rider hibiki, or at least the first half i’ve seen so far. it’s incredibly refreshing compared to other rider/toei shows, the slice of life stuff is so well done. it’s just a very cozy show  Best Rewatch of 2018 - rewatching abaranger and faiz back to back with skillz was one of the smartest ideas i’ve ever had, it’s the ideal way to watch both shows Best Movie of 2018 - kyuranger vs space squad!!!! yall know im mega weak for anything kyuranger related, and this movie finally gave hammy her time to shine. the returning villains were fun and it managed to get me super invested in mele despite not even watching her show, and the sentai actor cameos were nice too (tsuruhime!!). probably my favorite sentai movie overall, and not just because they announced winspector’s return in the post-credits scene Best Male Lead Character - the love of my life sento builds Best Female Lead Character - her <3
Tumblr media
Best Male Supporting Character - ushio minato, most datable dad of 2k18 Best Female Supporting Character - tie between sawa builds and asahi from r/b
Best Villain - another tie between evolt and aizen. evolt is now my number one example of the villain you love to hate, he’s SUCH a fucking bastard. and aizen is just the perfect goofy, over the top antagonist. it would be so easy for him to come off as obnoxious but he makes every scene he’s in hysterical. i think it helps that he’s played a villain on a kid’s show before (in miracle tunes) so by the time he got cast for r/b he knew exactly what to do  Best Returning Past Character - takeru ghosts. i still can’t believe ghost got the best tribute episode in zi-o so far, but maybe im biased Best Actor - atsuhiro inukai. the scene where sento visits the place where aoba died......... Best Actress - kaho takada. the scene where she reacts to kazumi dying (dumb gag stuff aside) broke me because she made it feel so real :’( Toku Crushes of 2018 - sawa, keiichiro, tsukasa, r/b dad, and... ugh, woz Best Writer - shogo muto owns my ass, my computer, my phone, my dog, my Soul, now and forever Best Director - kazuya kamihoriuchi, obviously Best Suit Design - RABBIT! TANK! BEST MATCH! Best Weapon - the ruebe kourin, or the halo with knives in r/b. it’s a halo............... with knives
Best Mecha - patkaiser babey!!!!!! Best Fight Scene - when ryuga’s magma gets fucked for the first time against evolt. alternatively, any time the lupinrangers and patrangers teamed up to fight a gangler Best Dramatic Scene - all of build 21, the one where sento has to deal with the aftermath of killing aoba Best Comedic Scene - all of lupat 27, where sakuya and touma take a dance class together. literally the funniest toku episode we’ve had in years Biggest “WTF did I just watch?” Moment - everything i’ve seen on my dashboard about the jinga show Best Song - lupin/patren x’s theme, “M A X Power” Best Piece of Merchandise - sentai plushies Biggest Surprise of 2018 - takahashi and ohmori having nothing to do with ryusoulger lol
Award for Single Worst Thing in 2018 Tokusatsu - literally everything about how the narrative and taiga himself treated nico in brave and snipe. also what the fuck that came out this year??
i won’t tag anyone else but if you wanna do this go wild

This is the LAST post for December, meaning it's also the FINAL post for the year. Anything special to publish in the conclusive day of 2017? NOPE. Just this... uhmmm, random ramblings. Ahahaha...
My internet went down completely for around 2 weeks since December 13th. The unexpected 'incident' (I apparently has burned my modem *sigh*) made me switched into my creative side and did genuine FUN non-internet related things instead. And I got all caught up by it... that I practically did NOT prepare anything for Tumblr.
Had a Random-News-Digest prepared for mid-December, but ditched it completely because the content would be highly outdated now. Wanted to do my monthly recap-view for "Kamen Rider Build", but haven't finished it so it'll have to wait until next month. The only thing I could pull off was the recap-views for "Uchu Sentai Kyuranger" last 2 episodes of the year. Though to be honest, that amazing show was part of my 'offline fun' as well. So yeah, unlike last year, there is no TOP 10 list this year. Didn't even publish anything for Christmas, because I completely FORGOT about it! LOL... (^^;)
Anyways, to make up for all of that, I've written a rough 'RECAP' of what went through my life this year. Entertainment-wise, of course, and not all but just some of the highlights. In list form! Why? Because I feel like it *grins*. Here goes nothing...
Movies, Oh movies...
- Watched even less movies on the theatre this year, and opted to wait several releases on home video. Only went to see the big guns, thus there isn't any disappointment. - Surprisingly, I loved the live action "Beauty and the Beast" more than the animated original. Dan Stevens' solo number "Evermore" is stuck in my head ever since. - Haven't seen "Coco", and really want to. Here's hoping the home video will be released soon. I guess I should see "Cars 3" first, huh? - "Dunkirk" was magnificent. War movie is usually not my forte, so I'm pleasantly surprised that Christopher Nolan managed to make me enjoy one. Was it the short duration, the all-out jerks of the army, or the non-stop intensity? Don't know. But if there's at least one thing I've gained from it: I disliked Harry Styles ever more now. No kidding. Poor French soldier... - I'm a visual guy so when I saw a disturbing scene, it usually stayed on my head for a good while. That bloody scene after the bomb explosion on "Stronger", for example? *sigh*. I hope Jake Gyllenhall receives an Oscar nomination for his work on this movie. - "Death Note" and "Ghost in the Shell"? Enjoyed the first one more, but both deserved better. - Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" was mediocre, but I'm among the minority who actually want to see more of Universal's Dark Universe. Even if just to see more of Russell Crowe going Jekyll. Charlie Hunnam's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" was the movie's kindred spirit, while "Kong: Skull Island" was the opposite. Kong will be meeting Godzilla in the coming years! - Comic book adaptations were generally top notch. Naturally the three Marvel Studios' releases; "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", "Spider-Man: Homecoming", and "Thor: Ragnarok"; would be my top picks. Don't ask me to choose which one is the best though! All three were amazing and marvelous in their own unique ways, so I'd gladly rank them in the same spot just to be fair. - I admit, "Logan" and "Wonder Woman" were great too, but I didn't like them as much as everyone else on the planet. Not sure why, I guess... none of them was my cup of tea? Let's just say, there were problems on each of them that I couldn't quite tolerate and it reduced my overall impression on them. - Don't ask about "Justice League". I'll wait until I can borrow a copy when it's out on home video. Not wasting my money on a poorly reviewed DC Films. For now, "The LEGO Batman Movie" remains to be the best DC release of the year. - "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" was just NOT as good as the prequel. It was fun, but it felt like it's repetitive yet also missing something and trying too much.
Show Must Go On...
- Just realized that I've seen MORE TV series this year! Both the currently in broadcast, or titles from previouse years like "Westworld". Oh WOW... - Both Marvel's "Iron Fist" and Marvel's "The Defenders" were genuine duds. Both TV series were underwhelming and disappointing, that I have lost any urge to see Marvel's "The Punisher". - Haven't seen Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." 5th season as well, because I haven't been feeling it. Though that will change in the near future because I'm itching to see its 5th episode. Hey, my boy Fitz and Hunter are the star of that episode, right? THAT I just have to see! I wonder if seeing that episode would be enough to convince me to watch the previous four episodes... - Currently following Marvel's "Runaways", though this 1st season might be my first and last. Don't know why, but not feeling it either. I think CW's "Riverdale" was a more watchable show, and even that one have been dropped after Season 1. LOL. I guess teenage soap-opera is just NOT my thing. - The 5th and final season of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was kind of... all over the place too. This show should've ended with Season 3, if you ask me. It had a bittersweet ending, akin to "Samurai Jack". But it also did not ended gracefully, and far less enjoyable to follow. - "Stranger Things" Season 2 was amazing. It had a somewhat different vibe compared to the 1st one, but equally enjoyable to watch. Poor characters whose name starts with 'B'... - I think the 3rd and 4th Seasons of "Voltron Legendary Defender" were initially meant to be one unit. The show's first two seasons were impressive, but these latter two were... okay? I don't know why, but it felt like it has waned a bit. - "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" was somewhat similar. I had great time with Season 1 and 2, but Season 3 was a bit... uneven. Many of the jokes didn't quite hit, and some of the story development started feeling like a recycled trick. Still, I would love to see a 4th Season, and hopefully with better improvements. - Was expecting "Big Hero 6: The Series" to be as amazing as the Oscar-winning movie... but alas that didn't seem to be the case. Didn't quite enjoy the 2-episodes premiere as much as I wanted to. A complete opposite to "DuckTales", that hit all the right notes. The sole complaint I have about this reboot/remake, is that Scrooge McDuck's adventure isn't airing new episodes on a weekly basis! Aaaaargggh, the long wait is making me angry. - If you haven't seen "Thunderbirds Are Go", then what are you waiting for? I feel the 2nd Season had more and more amazing moments, to the point that I hope Season 3 will come sooner than later. - Comedies are taking my leisure time now! Have been following Seth McFarlane's "The Orville". It was mediocre to good, and desperately in need of improvements (hopefully in Season 2). Yet I keep going back and see it. Is it the star power of its guest stars? - Adam Scott and Craig Robinson's "Ghosted" is on my top priority watch. Sure, the quality has reduced a bit since the pilot, but the supernatural agents aren't going anytime soon from my house. - The same with Kevin Finn! Great goodness, I have only started watching "Kevin Probably Saves the World" since early this month (the benefit of NOT getting preoccupied by the internet LOL), but I'm already regretting why I didn't start sooner. Now I honestly can't wait to see more! Kevin is such an adorkable, likeable, and surprisingly relatable quirky lead. The kind of guy I would totally love to be best friends with in real life. Really though, the show is infectuous with its acts of kindness, heartwarming with its pleasant vibes, and also surprisingly engaging through its personal conflicts. If you hear me giggling, laughing out loud, or sobbing lately, you can probably thank Kevin, his guardian Angel, family, and friends for that! Seriously...
A Spoonful of Anime and Toku
- Turns out, "Kekkai Sensen & Beyond" wasn't the sequel that I expected to be. It's... 'different' than the first season. But when you get to see what the other members of Libra (even the team's butler) are doing in their daily lives, should one even be complaining? In the end it was indeed as amazing and fun ride as the first season, even if lead protagonist Leonardo Watch took a back seat most of the season. I'm already crossing my fingers to see more adventure of the team. But it likely won't happen in the near future, huh? Bummer... - "Ballroom e Youkoso" was a peculiar dance. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half, but after Tatara changed partner things got... hectic and irritating to follow? It was still good, but a rather uneven show if you ask me for honest impression. At the very least, it wasn't a wasted opportunity like "Kabuki-bu!" was. - "Houseki no Kuni" was of similar situation. Its animation was gorgeous, story was peculiarly engaging, and world building was great. But there were episodes that were undeniably better than the rest, and I didn't quite like how it ended. I guess that finale was teasing for more seasons? Hmmm... - It's been years since I follow a Pretty Cure series, and "Kira Kira Precure A La Mode" wet my appetite and got me back to the game. Unfortunately, while the design was interesting, and the sweets angle was neat, the story was somewhat weak. I have lost my initial enthusiasm after the first half, but I still watch it because it's going to end pretty soon. Not quite expecting a mindblowing finale though, especially if the animation quality is any indication. A common problem of TOEI Animation. Remember "Sekaisuru KADO"? - Dang it, what an impressive year it has been with Super Sentai. "Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger" was kind of dull and boring last year, but had a great ending this year. And it was quickly followed by something even better. Yes, another show that has dragged me on a pleasant roller coaster ride is none other than TOEI's "Uchu Sentai Kyuranger". Since its premiere run on February, until its Christmas episode that wrapped up its 2017 run, I haven't been disappointed once with the series. Yes, I had an issue with the spin-off series of V-Cinema "Episode of Stinger", but that didn't count as the broadcast lineup. Though it's painful for me to soon say goodbye to this amazing season, I hope its last month will be memorable and a blast. Particularly because I'm currently having second thoughts about the 2018 season... - Just like its weekly storyline, "Kamen Rider Build" is still moving me back and forth. I'm honestly on the verge of dropping it completely, but I guess I'm going to check out several episodes from the next "Kamen Rider Wars" arc. I kind of feel it takes too long to get to this point when it could've been done earlier, but who am I to argue, right?
Name of the Game
- "Nintendo Switch" was a hit! Ever since its release on March 2017, the buzz and hype for this hybrid console only continue to increase. I wonder if I will be able to purchase one next year? Perhaps, just in time for the next Pokemon gen? - Speaking of Pokemon, the addition of Generation III from Hoenn region has made me go out and explore "Pokemon GO" again. The whole Raid Battle system and Niantic's handling of the Legendary Pokemon had disappointed so bad that I was close to give up on this App. Thankfully, now I have a horde of new reason to walk around the neighborhood. Problem is, can the same premise work in the long run? Niantic really need to consider new social features that enables players to engage with one another. - "Street Fighter V" had a weird set of DLC characters this year. The 2nd Season contained mostly new characters, that was a hit or miss with fans. Thankfully, things seem to be picking up next year with the Arcade Edition. Not just because my man Cody Travers is all dandy clean and returning to the game, of course. Question is, will I be able to play the game eventhough I don't have any plans to pick up a PS4? *giggles*. - I also haven't been able to play "Persona 5" due to the exact reason. LOL. Thankfully, "Persona 5 the Animation" has been announced to air next year. Sure, I'm a bit skeptical with the fact that A-1 Pictures and not Production I.G. will be doing the animation, but at least this will be my way of enjoying the game... WITHOUT actually playing it. - LEVEL-5 should do more of that worldwide Puzzle Quest! That was meant to be a prelude or some sort to "Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and The Millionaires' Conspiracy", but I think the game developer should learn by now that it could work as a stand alone project. It made people come together in surprising way, and attracted fans to come back everyday to check out the new worldwide puzzle. Real FUN!
Oookaaay, that went A LOT longer than I expected. And I'm 100% sure that there are items that completely slipped my mind. As of writing this line, it's only just a few hours before the year ends! Aaaaarggggh *grumble*. Gotta publish this one soon then!
With that said, 2017 has been a difficult and challenging year. Particularly to a very discriminative and straight-out evil political atmosphere. One that allowed people to show their true despicable nature and selfishly trampled others for it. Last year I did say that "There's so many reasons to be hopeful about 2017", but reality had spoken differently as it turned out there were plenty more to discourage us throughout the year. Many people have even lost their fate in humanity this year.
But you know what? I'm going to say the same thing this day as well. There are SOOO many reasons to be hopeful about 2018. I don't know if it's because I'm currently caught up in the holiday spirit, or because I've been feeling extra thankful and blessed this month. One thing I can openly attest, is that things DO GET BETTER. So don't ever lose hope, and keep fighting the good fight in the name of just and goodness. I'm being lazy right now, so I'm just going to copy and paste my own words from last year: "Life can sometimes be hard, but all we need to do is stay strong, stay high spirited, and more importantly, keep moving forward! Happiness and blessings will surely find its way, in ways you might not imagine!".
And also this next one... because I'm going to be saying more or less the same kind of statements anyway: "Thanks to those who have been reading my blog all year long. I know I haven't spent much time (or any) to address you one by one, and heck, I might not even know you're there. But please know that I'll always be grateful for your presence, your time, kindness, and more importantly patience to walk through my long and sometimes pointless ramblings. What you've been doing means a lot for me, and I hope what I've been posting has and will somehow benefit back to you in return.". 2017 ends in just a few hours away, so let's enter and stride through 2018 with a hopeful and brave heart, the biggest and earnest smiles, the most sincere love and compassion for others regardless of their religion, race, or skin color. More importantly, let's make 2018 a year that we can be proud of. Where we take a stand for what's right and good! Where we become better human being than we are this year!
SEE YOU TOMORROW IN 2018!!!

I said that for toku ladies week I would make a post listing why I think every main rider from shows I’ve seen could have been a woman from their show instead and I was mostly joking but then I did it anyway
amazon: we know that amazon was made into a remodeled human by chief bagow using the gigi armlet and also some tools made of fucking bones, and he picked amazon bc amazon was running around wild in the jungle after his parents died in a plane crash. all of that is pretty ridiculous, so if it happened to one person it could happen to anyone. if ritsuko’s parents died in a crash over the amazon maybe she would have become a feral child and been given the armlet. ritsuko okamura could be kamen rider amazon
black: kotaro was remodeled by golgom to become one of their kings along with his adopted brother nobuhiko, but what if golgom wasn’t looking for just a king and instead they wanted both a king and a queen? they might have abducted nobuhiko and his fiancée katsumi, turning nobuhiko into shadow moon and katsumi into black sun, kamen rider black. a woman having to battle the love of her life might even be more exciting and tragic than a battle between brothers. katsumi kida could be kamen rider black
black rx: if katsumi was black, the crisis empire would capture her and try to kill her, changing her into black rx. katsumi kida could be kamen rider black rx
kuuga: why is godai kuuga? bc he puts on a belt he found in a cave like an idiot to save someone bc he’s a good guy. sakurako is also a good person and she also had access to that cave. in a different situation, who’s to say she couldn’t have put on the belt? sakurako sawatari could be kamen rider kuuga. also I believe in the kuuga novel mika gets a belt and becomes kuuga. mika natsume is kamen rider kuuga
agito: I’m not very far into agito so I don’t know how or why shouichi is agito and I can’t say how a woman would do it. however here’s something I do know: ozawa made the g3 suit. if she made it, she can use it. sumiko ozawa could be kamen rider g3
ryuki: this is kind of a tough one, I was thinking, remembering the many things about yui that could make it unlikely that she would be ryuki. then I remembered there’s another woman in ryuki who has an investigative spirit and always searches for the truth. it’s shinji’s coworker reiko. since shinji basically just picked up the deck, there’s nothing stopping her from doing the same. reiko momoi could be kamen rider ryuki
faiz: mari can’t be faiz bc she’s not an orphenoch. but listen to this: what if… she was an orphenoch? she could be the wolf orphenoch instead of takumi, or I think it would be cute if she was a less popular big cat like the lynx or serval. anyway faiz should feel ashamed for having mari put on the belt no less than three times and never letting her transform a single time. mari sonoda could be kamen rider faiz
blade: blade riders are just guys who work for a company, no special requirements. hirose works for that company using a computer to search out undead, but she could just as easily use the blay buckle to transform into a rider. shiori hirose could be kamen rider blade
hibiki: all the riders in hibiki have first and last names that start with the same syllable but I’m going to go right ahead and ignore that little rule. to be an oni and hibiki rider all you have to do is know that oni exist and train to be one. there are a couple women in hibiki who have known about oni for a very long time. of course I’m talking about the tachibana sisters. in the show they choose to be supporters for the riders, but nothing would stop them from choosing to train as riders. kasumi or hinaka tachibana could be kamen rider hibiki
kabuto: if you’ve watched iconic masterpiece kamen rider kabuki: god speed love, you know that tendou has the kabuto belt bc he traveled through time to give it to himself as a child in order to save hiyori. this may be the most difficult thing I’ve asked you to imagine yet but bear with me. what if tendou was less of an egomaniac and gave the belt to hiyori so she could save herself? in that case hiyori would grow up with the belt in her possession, ready to use it when the time came, and tendou would just appear as a mysterious benefactor. hiyori kusakabe could be kamen rider kabuto
den-o: to me den-o is one of the most egregious examples of a belt going to a guy when there’s a perfectly willing girl. I think in some ways hana is a better candidate for being den-o than ryoutarou. she’s stronger and a better fighter, and she has a reason to fight rather than just being dragged into the battle. she’s also a singularity point just like ryoutarou, so there aren’t even any in-universe special powers needed she doesn’t have. hana could be kamen rider den-o
w: it’s tricky since w is the two in one kamen rider. I can’t just slap akiko in the suit and call it a day. she has to have a partner. a popular au is for her and wakana to be w, with wakana taking on philip’s role as the gaia library. I’m into that, but I also think akiko taking the place of one of the existing guys has a lot of Comedy Potential. akiko and shoutaro like a pair of bickering siblings who fight over the mysterious boy living in their basement. akiko and philip as a cool crimefighting duo who still aren’t hardboiled enough for their office manager shoutaro. both very funny. akiko narumi could be kamen rider w (with a partner)
ooo: eiji is uniquely able to handle the demands of the core medals bc he’s so selfless. I get it. but we see how well that works out for him, don’t we (dinosaur greed). maybe someone a little more weak of heart could be ooo as long as they were strong of body, like hina. hina izumi could be kamen rider ooo
fourze: like den-o this is another series where the main guy has nothing the main girl doesn’t, imo. yuuki loves space and friendship. what else does she need? I think she also knows about the fourze belt before gen ever does, although I might be remembering that wrong. yuuki joujima could be kamen rider fourze
wizard: koyomi is my choice for replacement rider even though her unique situation of needing other people’s mana to survive might make it hard for her to expend mana as wizard. I have to do a little au magic here but I think it’s pretty well supported by canon. if dragon can stay inside haruto and lend him his power, he could do the same for koyomi and he could probably cover her mana requirements too. from what little we see of his personality I don’t think it’s impossible he would agree to do that. koyomi fueki could be kamen rider wizard
gaim: kouta basically just picked up the belt bc yuuya dropped it (when he died). mai has hands, she could have picked it up too. the best part is if she was the main rider the whole forbidden fruit plotline would be less awful or wouldn’t even exist at all. mai takatsukasa could be kamen rider gaim
drive: kiriko could easily be drive. she even put on the belt in some special only to be rejected bc she “wasn’t strong enough” or some horse shit. that woman vaults right over cars. does shinnosuke ever display that kind of raw physical power? I think not. kiriko shijima could be kamen rider drive
ghost: I know takeru was only able to become ghost bc he died at exactly the right time, after receiving a present of an eyecon from his late father. but he’s not the only person who can die. akari could have been killed, maybe even protecting takeru, and you know that boy would give up his eyecon if it meant akari could come back to life. akari tsukimura could be kamen rider ghost
ex-aid: I was going to tell you why poppy could be ex-aid but I’m not actually sure she could and anyway she’s going to be a different rider. two female riders at once might be unimaginable to some people at toei but to me it sounds wonderful. I think nico could take emu’s place as ex-aid. she didn’t have the same surgery he did but we know she was active in the gaming community at the same time so it could have happened. and if you don’t think nico wouldn’t send a letter to dan kuroto that pissed him off, setting the chain of events that spread the bugster virus in motion, you probably haven’t been watching ex-aid. nico saiba could be kamen rider ex-aid

Just Had A Thought
Totally random ramble here and I’m saying it for no other reason than the fact that it infected my brain and if I don’t type it out, it’s gonna make me miserable to an extent.
This is about me and Tokusatsu shows which are some of my favorite shows to watch. Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, GARO, it all began with Gekiranger and I’ve been around the block since then.
Hopefully one day I get to watch Liveman but that’s besides the point.
Anyway! I don’t remember when it was but I began to just think “Would they ever release a Kamen Rider series where the main Rider is female?”
“Or a Super Sentai Series where the red warrior or leader is female?” Cause believe it or not red isn’t always the leader. That said Kakuranger exists and the leader as far as I’m aware was the female White warriors but straying off the path again.
I had those thoughts just out of curiosity and thinking that’d be something to see. Random thoughts.
Now? I think that’d be a thing that brings so much baggage with it. Shows with female mains often do and I’ve seen enough madness on the internet for how they react to shows starring female characters and...those reactions are often unsettling.
It’s been in a lot of fandoms I’m not intimate with but the idea of Toku shows being dragged into that really makes me thing, I’d rather they not open that can of worms ever.
Cause what comes with it but loads of people wanting to watch this show with a female lead, just because she’s female. If the show is good, they’ll parade it as the best despite not having seen another Sentai or Rider series. If the show is bad, they’ll ignore that and i f you call it out for being bad, you’ll get shit on and called sexist cause clearly the only reason you hate it is because the main is female.
I’m sure people have seen this kinda shit in other fandoms and all over the internet and the random thought I had was that happening to the Toku shows I watch, attracting those kinds of people.
Of course what would I think? Well it depends. If the female Rider show ends up being as kickass as Ryuki, Gaim or Drive or somehow more kickass? I’d be down for it and like I recommend Ryuki, Gaim and Drive to people, I’d recommend that one too but not because it has a female lead, but because it’s a kickass show.
By that same token if the show winds up being like Ghost or Blade? I’ll tell people to avoid it. Again, not because of the female lead but because its mediocre, boring and there are MUCH better alternatives. Like Ryuki. Or Gaim. Or Drive. You get my point.
If you’ve read this and think “this is random”
Yeah. It is! I know it is. Just something I wanted to get out there. Regardless of if a female main rider or female Red Warrior / Leader ever happens, I hope that its good, entertaining and well done first and foremost.
No show is ever automatically better just because of the gender of the lead.
