I haven't watched the Super Bowl since the league kicked out Kapernick for not standing for the National Anthemn. And even then, I can't say I cared enough for football like that in the first place. So much so that I didn't even know it was Super Bowl Sunday yesterday
With that said, I was more than furious hearing that Isreal spent millions just for a damn ad spot to be played to push their genocide propaganda, all the while they slaughtered all those people in Rafah during the game
Yeah, so if yall made bets during the Super Bowl, you attended to the game, you bought supplies for the cookout, if you spent any kind of money for this event you need to donate double the cost of that to support Palestine
Yall make that talk about how you can both support humanitarian crisis and enjoy some splunders, here's your chance

A lot of my fellow Black and brown folks are finding it hard to accept that Black billionaires (including Mrs. Carter) are not gonna save us or the world.
From Zora Neale Hurston and Nina Simone to Muhammad Ali and Eartha Kitt and from Ava and Aja to Collin Kapernick there is a looong history of Black entertainers, artists, and athletes using their creative genius to nurture ancestral liberation, black freedom, and good trouble be it raising their voices through their craft or putting their bodies (and careers) on the frontline --- in part, because many of them were able to kove in white intellectual and political spaces as the exceptional, "extraordinary negroes."
---
"In a 1963 interview, civil rights leader Malcolm X discussed the pitfalls of pedestalizing Black celebrities in the Black community. In the interview, Malcolm X explained that unlike in the white community, in the Black community, people prop up Black celebrities when they are often nothing but puppets for the white establishment. Beyoncé and other celebrities must grapple with greater expectations of when and how they use their voice and must always deal with accusations that they are not doing enough with their power, privilege, and access. But those that assume the role of activist must be willing to use their voice, their art, and their influence to impact change."
If our creative Black billionaires were willing to risk their sponsorships, endorsements, and financial capital to move beyond the aesthetics of intellectual activism and actually help sustain lasting change . . . they would not be

Colin Kapernick may be black balled for taking a knee during football but he's still not letting that stop him from fighting for human rights.
(Sorry if I worded the first paragraph weird. Brain isn't processing words right but this is an important story.)

Can you explain why Buck and Eddie dating in your nfl Buck fic is a secret? There’s no reason like, irl why something like that would be a big secret and im confused why it is for them
Actually there are several reason irl. The NFL is a very hypermasculine sport, dominated by hetero men. There has been very little progress in terms of support of the LGBQT+ community beyond saying, hey we support them. Majority of open players have less than successful careers. Currently there are no active open players, the last one retiring this previous year. Backlash from team mates and other players, resulting in physical and emotional harm, can end a career. Loss of endorsement (where a lot of players earn connections and extra income), and the potential loss of employment. Look at what happen to Kapernick, for just standing up for BLM. He's been basically blacklisted because he 'offended' the 'American' way. So sadly an openly and successful LGBQT+ player just would not be perceived well for the general audience that tunes into the NFL and the league will do anything to keep the money rolling in.
So yes Buck and Eddie's relationship is a secret and if you go back through some of the snippets, I point out how the current society isn't ready for a successful and open NFL quarterback being in a queer relationship. It takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice to be in the NFL, let alone a top player. Buck could lose everything he worked his whole life towards and Eddie understand that. He's not going to make him choose, because that's not love.
You seems like you see the best of the world and thats really nice, but take a peak behind the curtain and see past the donations towards LGBQT+ charities. I love American Football and they are making strides, but sadly they aren't that long. It comes down to the money and right now the money doesn't want queer football players.
Thanks for the ask anon. I really tried my best answer with my limited knowledge on the queer community and the politics of the NFL. Not sure it was the answer you were looking for, but... my fic is not some twisted view on the NFL and queer relationships. I'm shedding some light on whats hidden behind the flashy players and shiny trophies.
Have a good day!

I love Taylor to death but what I saw yesterday made my hair stand on end. Taylor having been a victim of sexual assault was sitting in an enclosed area with a predator. Jackson Mahomes was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a female owner of a restaurant. This was a huge story and the case still pending. I didn't like this whole setup from the beginning. Now that everyone's seen the game I want Taylor out of this whole deal. She and Mr. Kelce don't need any promo whatsoever. Her safety, career, and her life is more important. I'm upset and can't speak anymore. Most of us in this group didn't want to see Blondie with TK. I can't support her any longer if she doesn't stop playing these games. It's getting dangerous.
Anon, I am so sorry. I see you and everyone else who finds Taylor’s proximity to this situation and the NFL’s toxic culture baffling and disheartening as she is a SA survivor and general supporter of women’s rights. For whatever reason it upsets you, I see and affirm you.
(FWIW, I have also always been uncomfortable with her affinity for the late Kobe Bryant.)
By toxic culture, I mean the NFL’s long history of not giving a sh*t about SA and DV committed by its players, prospects, employees, and former players.
I love sports. And I stopped watching NFL football 6 or 7 years ago (after a life of loving the 49ers) because I could not, in good conscience, support a league that:
- ostracized Colin Kapernick. That whole situation was not dissimilar to the 🐍 summer/fall of 2016 except more public and damaging and involved more punching down.
- is run by billionaire white owners that view players (predominantly players of colour) and their bodies disposable. Like how aristocratic generals used to view common soldiers as cannon or machine-gun fodder in the wars of the late 19th and early 20th century. The initial denial then minimizing of concussion-related disabilities is particularly heinous.
- has a pervasive culture of misogyny and toxic masculinity which manifests in ways like how they cover up DV.
And like - I own that I am a privileged white woman who can insulate myself from this.
But Blondie is acting like a clueless, privileged white woman who is helping white wash (yep. I said it. It’s white supremacist at its core) this wildly problematic league and lending her fame and general good will toward this disgrace of an organization.
I haaaaaaaate it. The MH situation was terrible, but she still went out 2-3 times a week and performed and promoted SNTV. Why so little Cruel Summer or 1989TV promotion? Why is she letting this dominate everything? It is baffling.
Anyway - I see you and I am sorry. If you, like me, need to back away a bit for your own peace of mind, do what is best for you. Take care of you. That goes for all of you, besties.

This pic will undoubtedly go down as one of the most famous Australian aviation pics ever. Photographed by Nino Lo Giudice from the rooftop of fellow photographer David Kapernick’s apartment on the edge of the Brisbane River. The F/A-18F Super Hornet is based at Amberley RAAF Base, Queensland and was taken during the Riverfire rehearsal. Riverfire is an event held as part of the Brisbane Festival. The group of people dressed in dayglow flak jackets are actually on the top of Brisbane's Story Bridge. Posted by Steve Strike 5th September 2022. **I have added his original full frame version in the comments for clarity. This version was cropped to fit the square Instagram format. Image is Copyright ©Nino Lo Guidice 2022.

In 1988 before we had keyboard warriors and image manipulation, Dale Snodgrass flew an F-14 down the side of the USS America. Shot by an official navy photographer on film with a 400mm lens, the image looks freakily close to the aircraft carrier. In fact the F-14 Tomcat was about 300 metres out to sea. This famous American image illustrates the same effect that is evident in both Nino Lo Guidice and David Kapernick's shots of the F/A-18F Super Hornet captured at Brisbane's Riverfire Event. It's a text book example of image compression when shooting with telephoto lenses. Fortunately back then in 1988 when the image was first published, there were no backyard forensic image experts crying "fake". Oh how the world has changed.

As a straight black man who passes 100% of the time I'm not going to pretend I don't have privilege over gay, trans, poor, and/or black women, but I'm also not going to pretend that that privilege is on par with straight white dudes. Like, you guys say what happened to Colin Kapernick, or that high schooler on the wrestling team in New Jersey who got his dreads shaved in front of the entire school, or the way anyone has ever looked at a black man who has dared to hold hands with a light skinned / white woman in public.
I wrote about this a lot in my memoir, but it was so disorienting growing up in online spaces and seeing things like "straight people / men will never know X feeling" because I guarantee you straight black people and black men as a whole have just as intimate of a relationship with fighting for their lives in an institution that's as hostile to their humanity as any white gay or any white woman. Sometimes even moreso. I wish all marginalized white people a very "I'm sorry your feelings and experiences were invalidated but please remember manhood and heterosexuality is way more diverse than those god awful Lacrosse douchebags and DND nerds you grew up around in your upper-middle class suburbs and catholic schools."

More of our Black celebrities need to use their platforms for the BENEFIT of our people. A lot of them are cowards who are too afraid of being black-balled like Kapernick! Also ps, our elusive Goretzka who is the poster boy of human and gay rights, has given a comment, supporting Boateng, after Bayern decided not to sign him. Amazing players we have in the team. I find it funny how Kimmich and Goretzka made this foundation called “we kick corona” during COVID times and later on, it turned out that Kimmich himself said that he didn't trust the vaccine. Amen. Footballers.
listen it is so funny when they do this to themselves but u know it's also big big sad because they can do shit like this and NOBODY CARES like everyone should be COMING FOR HIS LIFE but ???
maybe they are I actually don't really know but people have such goldfish memories. kimmich? starts a foundation? yay! he's baby! angel! does the foundation actually do anything? is it just a tax shelter? is it money laundering? who cares!
kimmich? anti-vaxxer?? idk I'm just here to watch sports thanks bye
isn't it so great when these fucks take a stand when it's literally too late and doesn't matter and doesn't cost them a single cent?
every player who kneeled owes Colin kapernick 100000 dollars like where tf where you when he was kneeling and risking everything he worked for and had?? suddenly ur kneeling when it's about 0 percent likely that u will face a consequence? oh cool
if ur kneeling next to the white dudes who sign ur paychecks GUESS WHAT
what is even the point. I am so tired.
