Pierce Brosnan says he has “No Regrets” over being replaced as James Bond

In an interview with The Guardian UK (to promote his new role in Netflix's Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga), Brosnan stated that despite getting “kicked to the kerb” [British spelling] after after 2002's Die Another Day, “Bond is the gift that keeps giving and has allowed me to have a wonderful career”.

Taking over as James Bond after Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan made 4 Bond films (Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Die Another Day).  He wanted to make a fifth Bond film, but Barbara Broccoli (in a interview) claimed that “the world is different now” (after the 9-11 terrorist attacks) and wanted to take the franchise in a more serious direction (perhaps thinking the dry humor in Bond movies was no longer appropriate, despite being a key ingredient in the success of the franchise since Dr. No).

The producers broke the news to him over the phone (in 2004) that he would no longer be cast as James Bond.

Brosnan said in the interview: “There’s no regret. I do not let regret come into my world … It just leads to more misery and more regrets.”
