Of all things, I accidentally made myself ship Cora/Mihawk and King/Mihawk and @raging-barbarian got me started on a rambling tangent for a "Zoro raised in Wano by Mihawk and somehow King and Cora are both involved" AU (instead of working on, y'know, my 30+ wips).

(Please don't ask me how this started, I still have no idea.)

So Mihawk (~23) finds baby Zoro (~1) literally just wrapped in a blanket and floating out at sea in a basket. Mihawk recognizes like a pendant or something with a Wano family crest on it (land of the samurai - he knows his shit) so he takes Zoro back to Wano, only to find out that there's no one left to care for him.

(And maybe they found Toddler Perona (4-5) on the way to Wano and, well, he's already In For A Pound in finding homes for abandoned children)

This is young Mihawk, he's not just going to abandon a baby to the wild (he was an orphan too? Zoro is just that adorable and they bonded?) and maybe this is before Mihawk found Kuraigana so he's literally just living bounty poster to bounty poster (like Zoro was) so he decides to stay on Wano for the time being. It'll be time to learn more about the way of the samurai too, so bonus for someone who's going to become the World's Greatest Swordsman.

Since this is all like 20 years in the past so everything with Oden is recent or just happened, of course Kaido's right hand King (~26) is going to go investigate this outsider and potentially extremely dangerous person who just showed up at their border.

Does this end up being love at first sight? Who knows, but King sees Baby Zoro in Mihawk's arms and Toddler Perona clinging to his coat-jacket-thing and King thinks of 7-8yo Yamato (whom he is practically raising because Kaido is a shit dad) back at the castle and he. Can't do it.

It's still up for debate on how King convinces Kaido to let them stay but surely it would be a good idea to keep a Warlord close? to make sure that the World Government/Marines aren't finding out The Plans.

(I just realized that Mihawk might not have been a Warlord by his early 20s but shh.)

Something something skip forward a few years and Mihawk meets Cora at like a Warlord meeting, either when Cora is still a marine or undercover as Doffy's right hand.

Do Mihawk and Cora bond right then? who knows. Maybe while they're waiting for the stupid meeting to start, Mihawk just starts talking about His Kids because maybe Zoro stained the shirt Mihawk decided to wear that day and he Literally Didn't Notice until Cora pointed it out to him. And Cora just listening (pretending to be mute) to this Extremely Scary Warlord who got a Bounty That High without even having a crew and considered one of the Strongest Swordsmen in the world talking about his children (which now includes Yamato) like they're Everything to him.

Maybe Mihawk is the reason why Cora decides to go against his brother/go against the mission to save Law. His job as a marine means everything to him but if Mihawk teaches him anything, it's that sometimes you gotta put that Aside.

Grabbing Law and going on the hunt for the Ope Ope no Mi goes a lot smoother. Perhaps Cora knew about Vergo being in the Marines (as a result of going to Warlord meetings) and warned Law? Or Law found a different Marine to bring back to Cora while he was heavily injured. Or maybe, knowing about Cora's plans, Mihawk (30) was the one to find Law (13) and Cora (26) and bring them back to safety on Wano.

They're only there long enough for Cora to heal safely and for Law to recuperate from eating the Ope Ope no Mi and cure himself of Amber Lead Disease but you definitely know that Zoro (8) and Law (13) have tiny childhood crushes on each other (or maybe Law has like a huge hecking crush on Zoro if you want to be closer to canon) when they separate. They think it goes away over time but then they see each other when they're older and realize that it was more than a simple childhood crush.

Cora does go back to the Marines (long-distance pining for Mihawk who he gets to see at Warlord meetings and okay, maybe he misses King a bit) but Law still ends up as a pirate somehow, maybe going back to North Blue after finding out that Doflamingo and Kaido are working together on fake devil fruit.

Kaido starts becoming really abusive because Yamato is failing to meet his Extremely High Expectations and Mihawk is many things but he's not abusive and just lets him and Perona do whatever they want so it doesn't sit right with Zoro and he knows King can't do anything. So when Ace (17-18) shows up on Wano (looking to fight Kaido except he's not there so ends up running into Mihawk (38) instead and "eh, good enough" only to get his ass kicked), Zoro (16) begs for his help to break Yamato (23) out of baby jail Kaido's prison.

Zoro and Yamato both leave Wano together because if there's one thing Zoro can't stand, it's the thought of his adoptive older brother going back to being treated horribly.

Only both Yamato and Zoro get separated from each other at some point because they're both shit at navigation. So when Luffy finds Zoro like In Canon, Zoro is all "yeah, I'll join your crew if you help me find my brother."

Yamato and Zoro have only been separated for a couple of months at most but you can only imagine how Yamato (26) must be worrying over his baby (19) brother by now. Zoro gets lost easily!! (ignoring the fact that Yamato, himself, is lost).

Luffy, of course, agrees because it's like a free 2-1 nakama and Pirate Hunter Zoro's older brother of all people? SCORE.

Wait, wouldn't Demon of Wano and Oni of Wano be cool matching epithets for Zoro and Yamato?

So the rest is just following Canon except with Yamato being part of the Straw Hats. You know, just your average 9-foot-tall, horn-having, skull-crushing dude with a baseball bat kanabo.

Skip to Sabaody.

Both Zoro (19) and Law (24) have existential crises when they see each other again at the Auction House ("Oh no, he's hot!") and Yamato, older than BOTH of them, going "hmmm, something suspicious is happening here".

Zoro gets sent back to Wano because obviously he didn't pay enough attention to his lessons (his chest scar, prior to leaving Wano, is evidence of one such failed lesson) and Yamato gets sent to Cora (37) maybe. Where Cora can teach Yamato about how sometimes your loved ones can also be Absolutely Horrible people and you gotta let them go.

Cora and Mihawk both having to fight at Marineford (Mihawk is much less phased because he's just Like That while Cora is a blubbering mess) only to go home and find one of their Children (Yamato as Cora's by extension) has been sent to them by that one Warlord with Bear Paws for Hands.

Ace still dies because it's too crucial a point in time. I'm sorry.

Kaido is the reason Zoro (20-21) is missing his eye - as punishment for running away with Yamato. It would've been worse (Zoro likely would've been killed) if King hadn't convinced him that it was better if Zoro was alive - Yamato would be more likely to come back home. And then King (47) is the one to (secretly) help Zoro (21) leave Wano to go back to Sabaody and there's a tear-jerking heart-wrenching reunion scene between King and Yamato (28) before King has to return back to Wano.

When it comes to making the alliance (Law totally chose Luffy out of all of the Supernovas because Zoro, you can't convince me otherwise), Luffy is like "heck yea, I wanna punch the shit out of Yamato's dad" and everyone else is a little bit more on board. Yamato and Zoro both had to deal with that asshole and probably (accidentally) shared tidbits about how their childhood was really difficult (a la living in Wano under Kaido's rule).

Not to mention the surprise of everyone on how Zoro, Yamato, and Law know each other:

Zoro & Yamato: Our dad's are dating.

Everyone: Wait...wtf

Law: You don't have to word it like that.

Yamato: King and Mihawk were far better dads than my dad ever was

Zoro: and they're kind of long-distance dating Cora

Law: Who isn't actually my dad!!

Everyone who remembers Cora shouting 'THAT'S MY SON!!!' from across the battlefield at one point: uh-huh

And when it comes time to beat Doflamingo, both Zoro and Yamato are heavily invested in punching the shit out of him (especially Yamato, who just spent 2 years with Cora).

So they defeat Doflamingo, go to Zou, and then go to Wano. The Straw Hats still gotta go save Sanji from WCI but Yamato and Zoro both go with Law, obviously.

While they're waiting for the rest to show up, Zoro shows Law around Wano properly because he'd been sick the last time he was there and this was, y'know, the place he grew up (they're totally not dates except that they are).

The time to fight Kaido comes.

Zoro fighting King is basically just emotional with lots of sword swinging (King had to take his mask off in the first 20 seconds because Zoro had never seen it before and wouldn't stop laughing) while Yamato is finally standing up against his father for the first time.

After everything is done and over, Mihawk comes back and looks at the aftermath and goes "I was gone for two days" (more like a month but okay). Everyone else is just "Do we need fight this guy too?" until they realize that that's Zoro's other dad. The Main Dad. The Strongest of the Dads.

Perona pops out of nowhere and shouts, "You were in Wano this whole time and you didn't STOP BY??!??!?!" and gives everyone a heart attack.

I don't know what happens after this because, well, we're still fighting Kaido right now. But Cora probably shows up so it's a Proper Family Reunion and, as the one with the least tact, is probably the one to ask why Zoro and Law aren't married yet.

Finally caught up with One Piece

Because I have many many thoughts, here are some theories the latest parts of the story made me think of ! Please note that I totally need to reread a few things in order to be certain of what I’m hypothesizing about here.

Also, sorry if people already mentioned these possibilities, I really just caught up (and i need to empty my mind or i won’t be able to sleep). :))

1) The Five Elders realized the truth about Luffy’s devil fruit during Wano, because Shanks tipped them off.

Tbh it bothered me that the WG suddenly realized during the battle against Kaido that Luffy had the Nika fruit, precisely as it awakened. 

However, during the Reverie arc (which takes place at the same time as Wano), Shanks requested a meeting with the Five Elders, to speak about “a certain pirate” though the rest is currently unknown. Additionally, thanks to Jinbe fighting Who’s Who, we found out that Shanks stole that fruit from a government ship, so it’s likely that Shanks knew exactly what kind of devil fruit it was when he stole it.

As for why Shanks told the WG the truth about Luffy... maybe to stall him from getting to the One Piece? or for some other grand scheme we likely can’t figure out for now. :))

2) Seraphims were made after people who are of different races persecuted by the World Government

On Egghead, we discovered Seraphims & Pacifistas made after Kuma (whom Bonney said at the beginning of the arc was “from a different race”) and Jinbe (who’s a Fishman). Also we learnt that their “green blood” is actually Lunarian blood (gotten from King/Alber, who was experimented on at Punk Hazard and later saved by Kaido). 

This could mean that the Seraphims are made after Hancock (who was sold into slavery as a child, with her sisters, with the mark of the Celestial Dragons on their back forever showing that “they are less than humans”) and Mihawk (history completely unknown but there’s that line from Zoro “you’re a little more human than him”, when fighting against the Mihawk Seraphim) because these two are also of different races? 

3) King Im/Imu has been alive ever since the Void Century because someone who once ate the Op Op fruit during this era gave him immortality.

Very clearly, the latest chapters revealed that Im/Imu knew Nefertari D. Lili who lived during the Void Century, so they gotta be immortal at this point.

Additionally Doflamingo blackmailed the WG, because he had leverage over them, which is how he became a Warlord and Dressrosa’s king.

We never really had a confirmation as to what it was, but I’m guessing that’s because he found out about Im/Imu and also about that special property of the Op Op fruit, which is why he was seeking it with so much intensity and was so furious when Cora gave it to Law.

4) Maybe Dragon left Luffy with Garp as a baby, because Luffy’s mom is from a different race as well, so he thought Luffy would be safer with Garp, who was the hero of the navy and already hiding Roger’s son, Ace?

I know this one might seem completely random at this point, but hear me out : 

In Vegapunk’s flashback about Ohara, Dragon was said “to hate war”, was already a “freedom fighter” and was apparently not yet affiliated with either Kuma or Iva and that was before Luffy’s birth. 

It’s too early to tell since Bonney isn’t done checking Kuma’s memories, but imo Kuma probably agreed to become a pawn of the WG in order to save his kid, Bonney, from living through the same horrors he lived through as a kid. 

But before that, Kuma started the revolutionaries with Dragon soon after the Ohara genocide, so I could see a similar motivation fueling both men back then (i.e dads wanting to fight for worldwide freedom but also to protect their kid from the WG).

Also considering the newly found Cross Guild putting bounties on navy and government men (a brilliant idea btw), it’s interesting it’s made of 

Buggy who used to be a part of Roger’s crew, a man who was one of the biggest thorns in the WG’s back, 

Mihawk whose past is unknown, but who, according to Croc, is highly distrustful of others & maybe of a different race (see previous point) 

Crocodile : past unknown, but highly distrustful of others as well, wanted Pluton to fight against the WG, and mostly has a connection to Ivankov, who founded the revolutionaries with Dragon & Kuma and who knows Croc’s “secret”, implying Iva probably used their powers on Croc at some point (absolute fan of the Crocomom theory btw)

All I’m saying is that two of the Cross Guild founders might be not be estranged to the whole “previously being persecuted because of their origins by the WG”, especially considering that Crocodile is the one who sought Mihawk for this partnership in the first place (and Buggy is included for the symbolic of the threat Roger used to represent, on top of wanting to compete against Shanks for the One Piece). 

5) The last road poneglyph is held by “the man with the burn scar” aka Jaguar D. Saul.

When Wano ended, Shanks said to his crew that they were going to go after the One Piece and the next time we met them, with Kid in hot pursuit, they were on Elbaf. In other words, I think it’s fair to say that the man with the burn scar is/was on Elbaf.

Coincidentally on Egghead, we found out that Jaguar D. Saul survived being frozen by Kuzan during the Ohara genocide and worked with Elbaf Giants to salvage what he could of Ohara’s library. So I think it’s likely that at some point he found out where that last road poneglyph was and possibly acquired it. 

in that case, yay, because an encounter with Robin will prove to be both very emotional and immensely fruitful. :D

Okay, time to talk about my One Piece ships and why I ship them while I wait on my laundry.

Not in any particular order.

Zosan- The Zosan seed sprouted in Arlong Park. Zoro grinned when he saw Sanji kick someone through the wall. Then that Chopper King of Beasts movie happened and they hyped each other up behind each other's backs and I was like, "Boyfriends!" I also like argumentative assholes who respect each other and become soft for each other.

Lawbin- Started as a whim. Started out as a stray thought that often happens when I like two characters I also happen to think are hot. But then an anon saw my stray musings and was like "Yes, join us!" And then I entered ship hell because I became obsessed with them and had no one to talk to about them. And the ideas were a little sad. And then I wrote a fic to figure out how they might work out in canon and I was like "God, these two make so much sense."

Buggyshanks (I don't like their official ship name sry)- One specific piece of fanart and they clicked in my head.

Usolu- They were a side pairing in a Zosan fanfic. It just made sense.

Usona- Same as Usolu.

Lusona (Luffy/Usopp/Nami)- Usopp has two hands.

Chakapell- I liked their dynamic. I liked coming up with headcanons for what their romance would look like. They're mature adults (not mature as in a euphemism for old, but mature as in fully mentally and emotionally developed) and sometimes one wants a mature romance.

Frobin- Everyone ships Frobin. I think I saw fanart and was like, "Well, yes." So they weren't a ship that jumped out at me while watching Enies Lobby, but some of my fav ships didn't jump out at me immediately.

Namivivi- They're cute. Why else does anyone else ship them?

Cavenlaw- Cavendish was very gallant with Law when Law was in need. I like seeing someone be so princely with our emo prince.

Cavenlawbin- Law has two hands. Robin has more than two hands. Robin can clone herself, actually. I'm just really attracted to these three characters and already ship 2/3 dynamics of it. Actually Cavendish/Robin is lurking in the back of my mind. Waiting to get me.

Other dynamics I like but I'm not unwell for or just really emotionally invested in:

Buggy/Galdino- They are friends with benefits.

Buggy/Alvida- Dumb man + mean lady who isn't as smart as she thinks she is. Failcouple energy. I think it was a fic that fully converted me.

Hanvida (Hancock/Alvida)- Good art. Good fics. Disappointed there isn't more fic.

Smohina (Smoker/Hina)- Smoker is a gruff, no-nonsense man who lets her call him "Smoker-kun." They have history. They're hot. Yes.

Viola/Robin aka Violin- Sexy. Hell, let's throw Law in there.

Buggycule aka Cross Guild + Shanks- Centered around Buggy. CG is funny but I like the idea of two hardened assholes like Croc and Mihawk catching feelings for the poor little meow meow that is Buggy. Plus Shanks has to be there. Buggy and his three weed smoking girlfriends.

Corabug- Cute fanart. Cora-san would be good for Buggy.

OC Masterlist - One Piece OCs!

What can I say? - Special interests are a thing.

As per usual, everyone is listed with their age at their introduction into the storyline. The birth years are according to my calculations and approximations of when the story of One Piece takes place. For OPLA, we have a set date for the Syrup Village Arc - Kaya's birthday, which is August 24th! I used that date to figure out if a character had had their birthday yet that year and went from there. Marines call her the "Black Widow" because she's like a spider in an invisible net of connections and most of her lovers end up dead one way or another, but most pirates respectfully refer to her as "La Donna". Even though her focus is mostly placed on the Grand Line, Baratie remains as one of her firmest territories, and so she she stumbles across some unruly straw-hatted pirate turned chore boy.

How to become a member of the Donquixote Family (and how better not to even try)

 When Law believed he was talking to Doflamingo for the last time, he accused him of only seeing his family members as useful tools (while using Corazon's words in the 2nd sentence; Law has a thing for repeating the DQ brothers’ words). This is a serious accusation, but is it really the case?

てめェに都合のいい集団をお前は家族を呼び! お前の暴走を止めようとした実の弟コラさんを射殺した...... // You call your family those who are convenient for you! You shot dead your younger brother Cora-san who wanted to stop your rampage…

Let's start with what happened in front of Law.

ドフラミンゴ!! これを見ろ!! // Doflamingo!!! Look at this!!!

ロー!! あーた何て事!! 若様あたくしの事など気になさらずに!!! // Law!!! What the hell are you doing?! Don't worry about me, young master!!!

Doflamingo worried about Giolla to such an extent he allowed Caesar to be taken away from under his nose. But that's not all, Doffy later stated that even then he realized there were already as many holes in his plan as in Swiss cheese.

さっき"黒足"が現れたが...... ウチの作戦にも色々と支障が出てる様だ... // A short while ago, Black Leg appeared… Looks like there are a lot of hindrances to my plan...

Giolla failed the mission through her own fault. Doflamingo risked never seeing Caesar again and losing everything, but he didn't sacrifice her. Is this big softie the crimelord who controls the underworld and always has to be ready to lose his crew members if an emergency happens? Nah, I don’t believe you.

Having his adoptive family is a very big deal for him.

---おれが8歳で母を失う. 10歳で父を殺した... [幹部] 以上のメンバーは... 長く苦楽を共にしたおれの"家族"だ. おれにはこいつらしかない...!! 家族を笑う者はおれが許さん...!!! いいな // I lost my mother at the age of 8. I killed my father at the age of 10... The elite officers are my family that have been with me in sorrow and joy. I have only them..! I won’t forgive those who make fun of my family!!! Got it?

These words are especially poignant when you consider that Trebol's gang has never hidden the reason why they took him in. Doffy knows full well that if it weren't for his Conqueror’s Haki, they wouldn't mind at all if he died abandoned. How did he feel when he talked about his family? Pica’s eyes are shown darkened. Could it be he felt both gratitude and compassion? What was he thinking? Pica was even younger than Doflamingo when he joined the gang. I want it all to be addressed so badly...

Picking up Doffy gave Trebol the first dream in his miserable life: to become the Pirate King by proxy. Doflamingo was put in the position of king, but this is so that Trebol could skim the cream off. Trebol’s attempts to show who’s really in charge have ranged from rather funny (well, not for Doffy) trolling...

持って来たぞドフィ例の!! // I brought you-know-what, Doffy!!!

寄りすぎだ // Too close.

寄りすぎだーだけど!? // Too close, but?!

そこがいい... 座れ // There’s okay… Sit down.

...to disobeying the captain's orders that brought disaster on himself and everyone around him.

It couldn’t have been summed up any better.

Trebol got away with this kind of behavior easily after only a few excuses and apologies.

過ぎた事だ…... お前らを責めても時間が戻るわけじゃあるまい // It’s already in the past… Even if I blamed you, it’s still water under the bridge, isn’t it?

Okay, it wasn’t Diamante's fault, but still Doflamingo is too lenient with them. Reminds me of SBS from volume 90 where Oda drew what Croc, Mihawk and Doffy’s kids would look like.

パパおこづかい取られた. またくれよ // Dad, my allowance was taken. Give me more.

...This little moocher. Who else’s kid wouldn't be afraid to tell their father such a blatant lie?

The elite officers were with Doflamingo from the very beginning, but what about the rest of the Family? How did Doffy choose people for his crew? It’s doubtful that strength played a big role in this. Strong fighters had been visiting Dressrosa for 10 years; I don't think among them there was a shortage of people willing to become members of the influential and wealthy crew. And yet Doflamingo wasn’t interested in any of them.

He got interested in Machvise, who ate the Ton Ton Fruit as a child and was hunted by those who wanted to take the fruit’s power by killing him. Doffy was interested in Vise's fruit, but he also saved him from his pursuers.

There’s also one thing almost all other members of the Donquixote Family have in common: they were shown to be poor as children (especially the elite officers). 

Doflamingo's pickiness went as far as not allowing Bellamy, a pirate with a bounty of 195,000,000, to join his crew, even though Bellamy idolized him. Bellamy would definitely be convenient, but there seems to be a type of people that Doffy has a strong aversion to.

もうおれに望みはねェのか……!? // I don’t stand a chance anymore?!

……フフフ!! ハッキリ物をいわせるな… ベラミー. おれとお前は目的が違うんだ. 昔からな…!! お前はずっと"海賊"になりたがってた. ---だがおれは違う // …Heh heh heh!!! Don’t make me say it straight, Bellamy… You and I have different goals. That's how it's always been!!! You’ve always wanted to be a pirate… but not me.

Doflamingo talks about it like Bellamy should have figured it out for himself a long time ago. It's a pity we saw so little of their interactions. Indeed, if one respects a person so much, shouldn’t they notice how this person feels?

生まれはどこだ? // Where were you born?

おれら全員[ノーチィス]だ! // We’re all from Nortis!

裕福な町だろう. なにが不満だ // Isn’t it a wealthy town? What is there to complain about?

退屈なんだあんな町!! ドンキホーテファミリーは"北の海"の誇りだ!! // It’s such a boring town!!! The Donquixote Family is the pride of the North Blue!!!

Doflamingo was clearly less than pleased to hear the reasons why Bellamy and his crewmates became pirates: while he and his family members struggled to survive, some brats decided to use the underworld as their playground. Bellamy, who admired him because of his status and power, left him unimpressed. Doffy's last words to Bellamy sounded both like a mockery and what he really thought.

もう十分だベラミー......!! 自由にしてやるよ. 今まで通りな // That’s enough, Bellamy..! You’re free. As you've always been.

It's strange that after Jaya, Bellamy didn't understand what made Doflamingo so mad at him.

"空島"が............ あるかないか. "黄金郷"が幻想か否か… ---そんな事がどうでもいいんだ. …なァベラミー… たがう意見は利用して...... ねじ伏せろ!!! // Whether a sky island exists… or doesn’t. Whether the Land of Gold is a fantasy or not… Such things don’t really matter. Isn’t that right, Bellamy… Take advantage of disagreement... And beat’em to the ground!!!

The Bellamy Pirates attacked and even killed those weaker than them left, right and centre. It wasn’t about the Land of Gold, they were just looking for an excuse to pick up on someone. This is what Doflamingo is talking about, and that's why he called them punks.

おれの配下に... チンピラは要らねェんだ小僧共…!! // I don’t need punks as my subordinates, you fucking brats!!!

チンピラ is a lower-end yakuza. This word is often used for violent, bratty people who tend to prey on the weaker ones: all in all, everything associated with the insult “punk”. Doflamingo has been well acquainted with this personality type since childhood.

ケガをどうした? // How did you get the injuries?

チンピラにやられた. …あいつ死ねばいいのに // I was beaten by a punk. …Hope he dies.

......... 負けはしたが............ あんたの... 考えに背いたつもりはねェ!!! シンボルに誓う!!  ただ...これがおれのやり方だ!!! 生ぬるい奴らは駆逐しても.........!! --- いつかあんたのいる場所へ到達する // I may have lost, but… I never intended to go against your wishes!!! I swear upon your symbol! This is… just my way of doing things!!! Even though I take down weaklings, someday I’ll reach the place where you are..!

…ウ~~~…! 従順なる部下よ. なかせるじゃねェか // ...Awww..! What an obedient subordinate. Isn’t it touching?

Wait, did Bellamy just say he intends to be as great as his boss by taking down weaklings? Sounds sorta offensive. Even Doflamingo looked like he was a bit speechless.

---ベラミーお前の… そういうトコが好きだぜ おれは……………!! ………フフフフフフッ…!!! “新時代» すぐそこまでやってきてる. ¾好きにするがいいさ. …ただし // Bellamy… that’s what I like about you!!! Heh heh heh heh heh heh!!! The new age is just around the corner. Do as you wish. ...But…

おれの部下には要らん // …I don’t need you as my subordinate.

A certain someone here couldn't resist the temptation to take a little pleasure in revenge. By the way, is he touching his left eye? The theory that Doflamingo doesn't have a left eye seems to be entirely correct, so in this case, it makes perfect sense for him to make such a gesture. 

Doflamingo sure had a blast when he treated Bellamy like dirt, but the had a very little, if any, desire to put him to good use. 

Bellamy was already half dead by the time he was left to fight Luffy. Doflamingo didn't even know if he was still alive while using him as a puppet. All this was certainly not planned ahead of time, Doffy just rolled with it. It would've made much more sense to provoke Bellamy into fighting Luffy from the very beginning, so that he would start jumping around before he used up his last strength. And Doffy’s clone would be there to help.

That’s if he were valuable enough to strategize around him.

---これがお前なりのケジメなんだよなベラミー // This is the way you take the responsibility, Bellamy.

勝手におれを慕い... 思い通りに事が運ばねェとヤケを起こす. ---人は生まれ持った"性"を変えられない!! お前はどこまでいこうとチンピラなんだよベラミー!!! // You admire me without asking… Things don’t go your way, and you give yourself up to despair. People can’t change their innate nature! No matter how far you go, you're a punk, Bellamy!!!

Bellamy definitely had changed in the time between Jaya and Dressrosa, but it wasn't the kind of change Doflamingo was interested to see. He couldn’t care less about piracy and didn't see Bellamy as someone who had changed for the better.

And last but not least, Law; Doflamingo proved in practice how important Law is to him. Law’s tragedy was largely the reason behind Doflamingo's decision to not only let him join his team, but to make him his right hand in the future.

After all, the best way to become a member of the Donquixote Family is to become a victim of the WG (desire for revenge is a big plus).

Doflamingo said that Law was like a brother to him, in his opinion, they should understand each other. He genuinely doesn't understand why Law didn't want to fight alongside him, but instead betrayed him, ruined his plans related to a very important fruit and now wants to take his head.

その背中の文字”corazón”. 何への当てつけ……!!? そもそもてめェの”ハートの海賊団"の名は!! 何への当てつけだ!!! ハートの席にも座らねェお前が!!! // You have "Corazon" written on your back. What is this innuendo aimed at…?! To begin with, the name of your crew is “Heart Pirates”!!! What is this innuendo aimed at?! You don’t even occupy the Heart seat!!!

If Trebol had bothered to calm down his adopted son, Law's attack could have been avoided, duh.

Doflamingo, who is on the brink of insanity in the scene, realizes that Law's resentment is connected to Rosinante, but doesn't understand why it all ended like this. After all, he was going to cure Law and make him his most trusted person, what could possibly go wrong? What was so bad about him that negated all his good deeds? He worries about this, even though Law has already killed two of his comrades.

It goes without saying that the inscription pissed him off, but he couldn't help but notice the Heart Pirates' symbol too. It’s Doflamingo's smiley, minus the crossed out eye. This drawing seems to have a great deal of meaning to Doflamingo, so it’s likely that he saw it as Law's mockery of his symbol. It certainly added insult to injury.

ガキの頃のおれによく似てた...... 10年もすりゃおれの右腕になる男だと直感した. それをこの手で殺すことになるとは残念だ...... // He looked a lot like me as a kid... I had a feeling that he would be my right hand man in 10 years. It’s a pity that I have to kill him with my own hands...

Their expressions here are so different. Doflamingo looks like he’s trying very hard to understand something.

長くは生きられねェ...!!! // I don't have long to live!!!

They shouldn’t be enemies, they have so much in common. Perhaps with Doffy's knowledge and Law's fruit, they'll even use the National Treasure of Mariejois together in the final arc, I want to see this so much. This can be a great opportunity for them to reconcile.

Well, I hope that even if Law doesn't make peace with Doflamingo completely, he’ll at least stop trying to crush Doffy’s windpipe.

One Piece Daemon AU

Presented with only slight spelling corrections and some elaborations, the mess of a One Piece Daemon/His Dark Materials AU that would not leave me alone and would only let me work on it at 1-3AM.

Also now I’m writing snippets for it just like my Gundam Wing and Star Trek daemon AU. Because.

Luffy: sea king with Conqueror Haki so they can’t be controlled. Separated but not because that’s as free as you can get. Fuck yea, she’s in north blue chilling the fuck out (heh) half the time and being absolutely chaotic as shit the other half. Her attitude is diametrically opposed to what Luffy is doing at the time. LOL she runs/swims into Shanks when Luffy’s still barely a pirate so he has no idea (not that the marines do either) one time. This 2000ft tall monster is squinting at him, and he thinks he’s about to get ate and then she goes “oh you’re so much smaller now!” Cause of course she spent her formative years as a baby version of his daemon. The entire crew is goddamn losing it, cause what kind of monster is this that even Red Hair’s Haki can’t control it, until Shanks yells out her name and then everyone loses it further still. I have decided Eastern dragon aesthetic but water/earth theme as opposed to Kaido’s air/fire theme. Still blue, but blue-green, tiger stripes cause camoflage and also badass and maybe she settles after Luffy meets Zoro’s daemon *whistles*

Zoro: tiger obviously normal colors or green and black cause why the fuck not, Zoro is not into stealth really. ”The only one who can call me stupid is me. “ “.....stupid” Cat vs sword fight ensues. Can be found cuddling Chopper when Zoro’s tired, super sloshed, both.

Nami: monkey? Lemur: small, fast, quick hands, caring but only when you prove you deserve it. Absolutely torments Zoro’s when she’s pissed because tigers can’t normally climb fucking main masts but a) she parkours and b) when has that ever stopped Zoro/her? Likes to hang out in the tree grove, absolutely pick pockets people while Nami plays distraction.

Robin: cat some kind of cat not big CARACAL. Looks aloof but absolutely ready to be ridiculous at any opportunity.

Franky: dog or dolphin. Something excitable loyal ready to throw down Newfoundland? Big, friendly, over-excitable, likes water and sailing...yes.

Usopp: Corvid or monkey; curious, intelligent, stubborn, inventive, tool solving/using. Lives in groups/troops and cares for others. Probably corvid, too similar to Nami otherwise. Crow most likely.

Sanji: swan. Black, and absolutely a viper and very sorry about Sanji’s attitude towards woman cause she’s more refined about it. Same intensity though. Will bite the shit out of you. Tiger vs swan fight, GO. Do also groom each other though cause human affectionate displays are stupid sometimes.

Fishmen don’t have daemons its another conflict and excuse for racism.

Law: wolf but like starved and Eurasian crazy with it. LONG leggos. Spiky black fur around the head, grey black white speckled cause T R A U M A

Ace: was a fire hawk, no actual fire but red as hell and BIG tail and wings. Her species not liked on most islands cause they don’t leave once they’re settled. They stand their ground. More angst ha ha. Never met settled Luffys daemon because I’M A MONSTER.

Sabo: never settled until he learned Ace was dead and then she settled as fire hawk because trauma and angst and also he knows who he is now. Not being settled was useful for a while when he did infiltration etc but now they’re both happy/sad about it.

Garp. Big dog. Bull mastiff dog. Not good with kids only with attacking things and defending but very loyal. Also big. “ Bullmastiffs are also difficult even for adults to control, so they aren’t a good choice if your child wants to help walk the dog. They like to please and crave attention, but they’re so big that even a well-intentioned nudge can end up hurting small children. ” HMMMMM RINGS A BELL, THIS DOES

Chopper: also no daemon or if so then monkey because HANDS. OH BOI THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A FUN THING. EAT SOME FRUIT, WAKE UP WITH A SOUL. Wait no people think he’s a pet. No daemon then.

Mihawk: literally whatever Shank’s daemon is he insists this is why they’re friends while Mihawk wine aunts in the background. He’s more refined though than Shanks and his soul (this is not a challenge). Like absolutely cold as ice until he cracks a pun, but no one believes the victim cause no way Mihawk would do that. Soooo proud, regal, loyal but willing to have a good time. Some kind of dog or cat. Big and fast and POWER. Could do big cat to be more like Zoro or a dog/canid to foil it. Maned wolf?

Vivi: it’s lazy to say her bird Caracue I can’t spell it’s one am but imma do it. KAROO HOW THE FUCK DID I MISSPELL THAT.

Crocodile: big fuck off alligator cause fuck you that’s why. HOLY FUCK I FORGOT HE HAD THE BANANA ONES IN HIS CASINO THAT’S GREAT

Logias turn to same element so Ace’s daemon is now a literal actual fire hawk, fuck the history books I’m writing this shit.

Don fuck face Flamingo: is what it is but like Kipo And the Age of Wonderbeasts it got TEETH, cause anything that survived acid water and shit is not cool. In fact, you know what, she’s albino and thinks that makes her special, honey you just don’t got shrimp vitamins, you buffoon of a bird.

All the dino Zoans are modern descendant of those animals so chickens. Or birds. Chickens would be so goddamn funny especially the 3 foot tall fluffy ones...fuck what’re they called(Brahmas). Oh wait. Emus. Ohhhhhhh fuck emus as an option.

Mammoth Zoan can have a Mammoth daemon because I want to see that on a ship.

(Makino) Bartender lady I can’t remember her name starts with m capybara cause she’s chill as shit and friend shaped. 

Dadan: is not friend shaped but is friend. Big fuck off bear or buffalo or wildebeest

Brooke: Laboon, Lampoon whatever Moby Dick. There’s some trauma, they had to leave him, but they didn’t want to and Brooke offered to stay but Laboon thought he’d be fine. Spoiler alert He Is Not. No one is fine.

Ohhhhhhh fuck bad good idea: Rogers daemon also a Sea King but the marines never goddamn figured it out, hoooooo my gods Shanks is having goddamn flashbacks. 

Momo and Kaido both have Eastern dragon daemons cause fake fruit.mythical zoan fruit but Momos is the size of a gecko and black so she’s hide-able. Kaido’s isn’t as big but is still Fuck Off huge. Red because I said so. 

Beastmen also do not have daemons because fuck the amount of significant characters in One Piece

Cora(zon): also had a wolf, because yay trauma and repeats and trauma bonding!But she was like, pretty yellow white and dog-ish up until the moment she ripped your throat out for offending her/harming her pack. Law learned much from her about appearances, being underestimated, and then for the most part did the exact opposite.

Slime man: *Aka Trebol* has a hagfish cause fuck him and Doflamingo

Boa: her snake weapon thing. Big noodley boy. The skull is for A E S T H E T I C

   Ace's daemon named Picaro: Spanish for naughty/badly behaved and that is a synonym for rogue cause MOMMA'S BOI and I keep misreading Rouge as rogue cause PIRATES, and this way it's a little better than naming the fire hawk Red though Ace does call her that sometimes .          You know what, he has the same daemon as Rouge/mom actually cause stubborn enough to not go into labor for 20 months is bonkers and that shit deserves recognition. Also because FUCK the number of characters in One Piece.              Celestial Dragons don't have special daemons but they do splice/separate cause they're fuckers that's why              AU of AU        Luffy's daemon close enough to WRECK MARINEFORD'S SHIT THAT'S RIGHT BABEY ACE LIVES, ASL REUNION AND SUCH          Sabo's daemon settles as a dog but one of the CRAZY breeds, like poodle or husky.

AU OF AU PART TWO: originally when thinking about a One Piece daemon AU Luffy was gonna have a cheetah; long, fast, use recoil to increase speed and change directions, males live in groups with their brothers and are highly affectionate. Tendency to run into walls. Has a fur pattern presentation named King Cheetah, looks like a more Armament Haki version.
